I remember when the Nintendo Game Cube first came out, people were having mixed feelings for Luigi's Mansion because it was the only Nintendo game among the extremely limited list of launch titles and because it didn't sport the usual action based game play found in traditional Mario titles. Many people saw it more as 'the game you get while you wait for the good stuff to come out.' Even though it started out with a slightly negative perception, I'm happy that it was able to prove itself among players as being a worthy game to check out...(more after the jump)

(Comic spoilers ahead) My family had a few cats during my youth, two of which were named off of X-men Jubilee and Storm by my sister. I thought it felt a little corny calling them superhero names so my brother and I simply ended up calling them "White Kitty" and "Black Kitty" because of their fur color. I told Bear and he said the X-men names were really cool and that I'm lame for not using them. Yes… He's probably right. =x...(more after the jump)

Indie development has always excited me and if you've followed our comic and blog for a while, you will know that both Pie and I are huge fans of the indie gaming scene. There is something really special about a small group of developers making the games that matter to them that is both encouraging and inspiring. Seeing Indie Game: The Movie, The Story of Mojong and the Double Fine Adventure videos really light a fire under our butts to contribute in our own ways; it feel as if the torch of inspiration is being passed down and it is up to us to run the farthest we can with it...(more after the jump)

I missed the Earthbound hype at the time of its release so I was a bit surprised to find how little dialogue the main cast actually had when Bear and I decided to pass it together (I swear, Jeff has like only two lines of dialogue throughout the whole game not including the ending). The characters seem to get so much love from fans despite this lack which I found very interesting. I guess it all boils down to imagination and how much power there can be behind the concept of not giving too much information and leaving some things open to the audience's interpretation...(more after the jump)

Pie and I finally got around to playing Skyward Sword, which we've been anticipating since its release over like...40 years ago? I don't even know. It's been a criminally long time anyways but that's just how life works out sometimes, I suppose. The Zelda itch has been gnawing away at us, which has been especially acute due to how we unexpectedly fell head over heels in love with Spirit Tracks. Since we've subsisting on the orchestrated music of Skyward Sword courtesy of YouTube, we've done well to stave off Zelda fever for this long, but now we consume it with the raging hunger of a starved animal and an even hungrier delicious pastry...(more after the jump)

Pie and I have been avidly playing Etrian Odyssey 3 and 4 side by side on the DS and 3DS respectively. Oh man! What an awesome find! I first heard of it from this marvelous flash animation but it wasn't until I wanted to get a couple games to round out our 3DS library that we picked both up. It really amazes me how many great games Atlus has in their catalog, but I digress. EO4 ended up being so fun and easy to pick up and put down that I ended up putting Fire Emblem on hold so I can play more of it. Yes.
Valkyria Chronicles came out exclusively for the PS3 in 2008. It was one of those games that had very high reviews and praise, but only sold modestly well in the States. It's an amazing strategy game made by the minds behind the acclaimed Sakura Wars series. Valkyria Chronicles grabbed my attention when I first saw the Japanese trailer back in 2007. I generally find games with a military feel to be a total turn off, but the trailer's direction accompanied by Hitoshi Sakimoto's amazing music compositions got me excited to see a potentially touching and emotional drama between people...(more after the jump)

Saving up for one usually took a full year; I scavenged every loose penny and nickel I saw to purchase that $80 Super Nintendo game I wanted oh so very much.
I expected Pie to cover this, but since she didn't I'll make it as concise as possible. Yes we bought the 3DS and Fire Emblem recently and we are thoroughly impressed with both so far. I have to say, playing the store demo of the regular 3DS with PilotWings Resort really did not do the system justice. It was nice, of course, but it could not prepare me for the experience of playing the XL with the masterfully crafted game that is Fire Emblem...(more after the jump)

I'm sure that a lot of us have had this experience...the compulsive need to check everything whether or not it makes any sense. I mean, gaming teaches us to look at everything; especially for those of us with OCD. This of course leads to some very awkward, and in turn funny, moments. Or perhaps that just provides useful cover. Who knows?...(more after the jump)

I imagine that many people have been dreaming about that perfect someone yesterday and over this weekend. Maybe the time has finally come to pop the question and take the plunge, as it were. In certain circumstances though, I would think that marriage vows would only serve to get in the way...(more after the jump)

Bear's been wanting to check out the last World of Warcraft expansion, Mists of Pandaria since it came out more than four months ago, but considering the cost of the expansion in addition to the monthly subscription fee, it was seeming a bit too much to spend just to satisfy his urge and curiosity to explore its unknown lands. Bear's always had an explorer's soul and since we quit WoW long ago and have played various other games, the absence of WoW's world left an unsatisfied hole in his heart. As old as the game is, WoW definitely stands strongly among the competition of MMO's in having a strong lore, a vast explorable world with unique environments, and an art style full of strong flavor and character...(more after the jump)
