Fortunately, we have several stores in Parker County that help us to just that. I have been an avid couponer for over 5 years now, and have noticed, that with the sluggish economy, we have seen less deals in the stores. But there are still some great deals to be found...even if you’re too busy to clip Sunday's coupons.

For example, our local CVS and Walgreens give incentives every week, and often offer FREE products with Extra Bucks and Register Rewards. If you are not familiar with Extra Bucks and Register Rewards, they are coupons you receive from buying particular advertised items, which give you a set dollar amount off on your next order. CVS prints these coupons on the bottom of your receipt, but you must use your CVS card to get them. If you don't have one, it takes less than 5 minutes to sign up, and the best news is that it's free. Walgreens Register Rewards print out of a separate machine and no card is needed. You are also allowed to use coupons from the paper (Star Telegram Sunday) for even better deals! Below are just a few deals at CVS this week. And don't forget, if you like chocolates & candy, check CVS, Walgreens & Target during the next 2 weeks for deep discounts, 50% and sometimes up to 90% off, on everything Valentines!

CVS week of Feb 14th Highlights:

Crest Pro-Health Enamel Shield toothpaste 4-4.2oz or rinse 14.8oz is FREE after extra bucks! Buy one for $3.50 and get an Extra Buck coupon back for $3.50. There is a limit of 2, so you can take that $3.50 coupon back in and use it to buy the second one for FREE! You'll get another $3.50 coupon which you can use with other Extra Buck deals this week such as Aussie Shampoo, conditioner 13.5oz or styler 5.1-14oz. Buy one at $2.99 and get a $2 Extra Buck coupon back, Limit 1. Just remember that your total purchase cannot be priced less than your $ off coupon so throw in a candy bar to make up the difference...you deserve it, remember you just got it for Free! You can take your Extra Buck coupons in when the ad changes each week, for even greater & sometimes FREE deals, just don't forget to check that expiration date, because when you throw away an Extra Buck it's like throwing away cash!

If this helps you, let me know & I'll be happy to post more weekly deals from our local stores.

Country girl, City squirrel.

Before we moved to town we lived on a bluff outside the city limits of Weatherford. We had a beautiful view, but the ground was very hard which made it difficult for trees to grow. Not only was the ground hard, but all kinds of weird bugs and animals would show up in our yard. For eight years we dealt with tarantulas, scorpions, skunks, chayote, turtles, poisonous snakes & stray dogs. So we were tickled pink when we moved into the “city” and our new (to us) home this month, which is covered by a canopy of pecan and oak trees. We actually feel safer, and more enveloped in nature here, then on that hill, because the life that graces our backyard is amazing. There are woodpeckers, pretty singing birds, neighborhood cats and tons of squirrels.

So when my daughter called me in to the kitchen this morning to see the cute squirrel sitting in the chair outside I came quickly. She said “He keeps jumping up on the seat and then down below.” Expecting him to run away when I came to the window, I was surprised to see him munching away and paying no mind that we were looking at him through a glass door only 2 feet away.

“Awwwwh isn’t he cute?” I said. “He’s sitting on the chair and eating a nut!” The squirrel finished what he was eating and reached up under the chair. “He must have hid nuts under the seat of the chair,” I naively said. He was taking quite a while under there, and that’s when I noticed the top of my chair; it was all scratched up and the squirrel was tugging on it from underneath! He came out with what looked like a light tan stick and started munching on it. “No wait… that’s a piece of my chair…he’s eating my chair!” I said.

And still, I didn’t stop him because he was just so darn cute. No, I got a camera instead and took pictures of him while he proceeded to tear apart the underside of the wicker seat and eat my patio furniture! So today, instead of trying to figure out how to get rid of them, I had my daughter set a pine cone, covered in peanut butter & bird seeds, in the chair to feed the silly little thing! Now I’m just wondering what I’ve started…”Do they eat houses too?”

New in 2010!

So now that we are settled in, we’ve got some great new things planned for our website in 2010! We just added this new blog, “Life in Weatherford,” which will keep you updated on everything local including tips, recipes, great deals & clearance sales around town. Plus, as of January, you can now easily ad your upcoming events to our calendar for free. Just click on the “ad your event tab” above the calendar and fill in the form. Also, be on the lookout for new coupons including local restaurants & stores in the next few weeks!

We have also bought the domain name TheParkerPeach.com, which we have decided to promote as our main url instead of DiscoverWeatherfordTX.com. Since our website focuses on all the events and attractions in the Parker County area, we felt that ParkerPeach.com was a catchy, and more appropriate, name for the site. Don’t worry if you have our site bookmarked, because the main url will stay the same.

During the next few months we will start reviewing and focusing on what other towns in Parker County have to offer too. We have decided to include our sister cities, Mineral Wells and Azle, in our site since our county borders on the city limits of each. We are also going to feature a “get outa town” section for all of us locals who are looking for our own weekend getaway. Over all, it’s going to be a great and exciting new year so, if you haven’t already, bookmark us & check back often because something’s always happening in Parker County!

It’s Official, We’re “Townies!”

If you’ve noticed a recent hiccup in the event calendar, don’t worry we’re back up to speed. Our family has been in the process of moving during the last few weeks. We have lived in rural Parker County for the last 8 years, and finally made the decision to move to downtown Weatherford, which "happened" to occur over the Christmas holiday...go figure.

Being a “do-it-yourself” minded couple, my husband and I decided we would take on the task ourselves. But what looked like an easy process, turned into over a month of headaches including a dislocated rib, a broken toe, and alas, a broken big screen TV! In fact, we are still not done packing & cleaning the old house. I’m looking forward to the day that we can look back and laugh, but for now, I’m just happy to finally be sitting on a chair instead of a box!

So what did I learn during this process?

1. I’m not superwoman, and if I try to be, I’ll just wear myself out and be no good to anyone.

2. Don’t try to move a full 30 gallon fish tank across the room…without your shoes on…because you think it would look better on the other side.

3. Don’t assume that all older homes have been upgraded to accommodate new appliance plugs.

4. Don’t be afraid (or too proud) to accept help if you can’t do it alone - thanks Mom & Dad and Dan & Jodi!
