Yes, as told by Sachu, we can look at the shadows of leaves on ground as they serve as several pin hole cameras projecting hundreds of images of sun on the ground as they have many gaps between them. These are some of the photos taken at my home. The pictures clearly show the golden ring of the solar eclipse.

This breathtaking novel by Dan Brown ought to be in the must-read list. You are bound to gel a lot with the characters portrayed in the novel that you would find yourself virtually on the run around various locations in Rome to unveil the mystery.

The story’s lead characters comprise Robert Langdon, a Harvard University symbologist, Leonardo Vetra, a leading scientist working with CERN, Maximilian Kohler, the director of CERN, Vittoria, the adopted daughter of Leonardo Vetra and Camerlengo Carlo Ventresca, the Papal Chamberlain. The story commences with the brutal murder of Leonardo Vetra, the lead scientist whose chest is branded with the ambigram ‘Illuminati’.

Maximilian Kohler, CERN’s director calls on Robert Langdon, an expert on the minutiae of the ancient Illuminati science society, to help in the investigation of the murder of Vetra. Langdon and Kohler come to know through Vittoria about her father’s ground-breaking research on the origin of the universe and the creation of antimatter which are being securely stored in canisters. They also discover that one of the canisters had been stolen after her father’s death. The stolen canister which contains a quarter gram of antimatter is a deadly weapon - it is potentially dangerous than a nuclear weapon if it comes into contact with matter and would wipe out a whole city when the canister runs out of charge in 24 hours.

Many questions would arise at that point of time: Who killed Leonardo Vetra and why did they steal one of the canisters? Who are all going to be the victims of the antimatter explosion disaster after 24 hours? Who are the Illuminati? Why did the Illuminati - (who themselves were a group of scientists several centuries ago) have to kill another scientist of CERN? The answers to these questions are gradually divulged to Langdon and others at various stages of their canister rummage operations.

Langdon and Vittoria rush to Vatican City in search of the Canister. They have to locate it within 24 hours and bring it back to CERN in order avert a disaster. At Vatican City, the Pope had recently passed away and there papal conclave had just begun to elect their new pontiff. When Langdon and Vittoria reach Vatican City, the four prefereti, the cardinals who are considered to be more likely to become the next pope disappear suddenly. Carlo Ventresca, the Camerlengo assists Langdon and Vittoria to find the four prefereti and the canister. They hurry to various spots of Rome to decipher the clues to find the path of Illumination to save the lives of the prefereti and to trace the Canister.

Were they able to rescue the four prefereti who were missing during a very vital time of pontiff election? Was the canister found or was the Vatican City annihilated?

Shantaram by Gregory David Roberts – Book review

A book of brilliance! I have no other words to describe this book. This humongous 933 page book enthralled me in each and every page and left me spellbound in the end.

An armed robber and heroin addict escapes from the Australian prison and reaches India with his false passport. He acquaints himself with a local tourist guide, learns Hindi and Marathi, lives in the slum, works with Bombay Mafia and also finds the woman of his life in the same city. The rest is history.

The book is gripping, mesmerizing and thoroughly enjoyable from start to the end. Roberts took 13 years to finish this book. He wrote it three times after prison guards trashed the first two versions. Shantaram is expected to be released as a Hollywood film in year or two with Johnny Depp starring as Shantaram. This book is to be added in the ‘Must read’ list.

Some beautiful lines in Shantaram:

Happy Birthday Thalaiva !!! - Superstar turns 60

Importance: Thalaivar's Enthiran Shooting spot :)

It was an aerial shot and Shankar was shouting instructions over the mike – a stunt sequence assisted by Perter Hein. Someone pointed out that Rajini was going inside the caravan and we , around 15 of us stood outside his caravan. Seeing us outside, Super star came out of the caravan and waved to us :) :) He was just a meter away from us.

15 mins later..

We were sure that Rajini will come out after his makeup. He came out of the caravan again as expected. A car arrived to pick him up, but he stood for more than a minute to wave at each of us and also shook hands. People started shouting and screaming like crazy saying “Thalaiva”… “Once More” .. and so on. We were literally jumping up and down in excitement. After hearing “once more” he paused and started waving again, smiling at each of us . When he left, we were literally dancing (simple steps though :D) and hooting as we had seen our Rajini so close than expected :) :)

His hairstyle was like a robot and streaked with silver. He had ‘L’ shaped side burns. He looked very tall and fit.

What actually happened ?

Andrew goofs up pronouncing 'lawfully wedded wife' as 'waffle-y wedded wife' in his vows. A waffle is a batter or dough based cake cooked in a waffle iron patterned to give a distinctive and characteristic shape. He ends up saying 'pancake-y' and the bride bursts out in uncontrollable laughter.
The Bride's father (seen in the left) also bursts out laughing and the Groom's father tries to control himself.

Groom : 'I've been scared of this my whole life'

Bride in splits and starts stamping the floor in laughter

Groom: 'Just give her a second' and she breaks out laughing even more!

Groom (finally): 'as man and wife'

2.A girl's heart should always be broken.
3.Kareena looks better than Sarah Jane Diaz! Haiyoo Haiyoo (Read in Vadivelu Shhtyle)
4.I would like to ask Saif one final question in Tamil (you know Vadivelu style right ?) -

How to recover Ubuntu GRUB if Windows is installed after Ubuntu

A few days back, my system totally crashed beyond recovery. I wanted to install both windows and Ubuntu (Dual operating system), I chose to install Ubuntu first followed by Windows.

I will not go into the specifics of manual partitioning of disk space for the dual OS. If you have any doubts, feel free to ask me.

I am now going to deal with the GRUB issue which comes when you install windows after Ubuntu.

1.Because windows was installed later, windows bootloader will replace ubuntu's grub.

2.This means there's no menu to select either windows or ubuntu and hence will directly boot into windows.

3.Now, insert ubuntu's live cd and go to application-> accessories-> terminal and type the following:

>sudo grub
>find /boot/grub/stage1

(hd0,5)

(The above result is displayed . (hd0,5) means linux ubuntu is available in 1st hard drive (0) , 6 th partition)

Now type this:

> root (hd0,5)
> setup (hd0)
> exit

4. now only Ubuntu will boot , windows boot loader will be missed. In order to create 2 menus at a time, do the following. Open the file /boot/grub/menu.lst using

>sudo gedit /boot/grub/menu.lst

You can click on this picture to get an idea of how the menu.lst looks like.

Type these after ## End default options ##

title Windows XP
root (hd0,0)
makeactive
chainloader +1

or if you find the same text in comments i.e., like

# title Windows 95/98/NT/2000/XP/Vista
# root (hd0,0)
# makeactive
# chainloader +1

then remove the #.

Here (hd0,0) means Windows XP is available in 1st hard drive (0) , 1st partition

Reboot the system and you will get the menu for both Ubuntu and Windows XP :) :)

The initial feeble voice started increasing multifold.

I managed to see through my half open eyes.

I thought myself as அமர்க்களம் Ajith.

How dare someone wake me up from sleep!

Aaah.. It was my neighbour’s son and I could see him jumping up and down literally.

"Nithya akka.. Nithya Akka"

“Ennada?”

“Mayyiillllll unga veetla mayyiillll” [Peacock at your home]

“Athu engada inga varapoguthu?”, I said with a sarcastic smile. [It never comes here]

But he didn’t stop jumping and shouting.

“Aaaahhhh, Seri varen iru” [Ok, I will come]

He was right.

A beautiful peahen was just waiting for me to pose for my camera.

She was flying between the trees and I couldn’t get a clear picture of her until she finally sat on the compound wall for a few seconds.

In fact, I have become addicted to Graph Jam nowadays.

I am very much fond of stickers, right from Ferrari, BMW to Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck ones. I recently signed for free stickers randomly in 10-12 sites and I got 2 of them delivered to my home :D

Now that’s great news isn’t it?

Well.. One of them was sent from Alaska Public Lands Information Centers (Alaska). They sent a beautiful Alaska Bear sticker along with the information brochure about Bear Safety in Alaska.

The other one was a huge surprise as from PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) as they sent me lots of campaign brochures, big posters and many stickers. I personally support the PETA activities and I feel it is my duty to propagate about the ethical treatment of animals in my blog too.

I had been craving to get a copy of Imagining India by Nandan Nilekani. The book costs a hefty 700 bucks. I felt that it would be worth trying to borrow one from the local library near my home. But, the best thing happened when I found the book – a brand new copy in my office library itself he he he :D. Whooaa! I borrowed the book free of cost !

Last week, I enrolled myself for the Classic DVD Membership at the British Council Library :) for this year!

This was also taken at Thanjavur house. The size of the yellow butterfly is hardly an inch. The flower Clitoria Ternatia, otherwise called as "Thathaa Poochi" poo by us is about half an inch in diameter. The background isn't that rewarding to give the butterfly and the flower a good contrast :(

May be I can give a bit of touch to the background. If I do one, I will post it here.

Something new about selling pineapples!

I happened to see this fresh pre-peeled pineapple at Pazhamudhir Solai, Thanjavur. Well, I was a bit surprised on seeing that to how much extent the sellers customise the fruits to grab attention of the customers!

Know what? The price of pineapple with the thorny skin at other places is the same as the peeled one here! Standard 20 bucks!

This already peeled one would save me a lot of time other than the relishing time, I thought. Though I had come there with an intention to buy other fruits, I left buying this pineapple along with them.

True that they say, “The real brand competition doesn’t starts nowhere else, but the showroom!”

Some very COOL spider facts:

1) Studies have shown that you're never more than ten feet away from a spider, and one estimate puts you as close as three feet. To be "spider-free" you'd have to go into space in a fumigated capsule.

2) Jumping spiders are smart. Studies have shown that they can solve simple 3-D puzzles; they also learn the behavior patterns of other spiders in order to capture them.

3) While most spiders live for one year, a few may have more than one generation each year. Some spiders can live 3 to 4 years, and certain tarantulas are known to live for 25 years or longer.
