Today we are celebrating The Boy's 16th (OMG!) birthday! For Saturday, he asked his Grandmother to cook a special meal, chicken and rice along with some fresh made tamales. She also made him Mexican Hot Chocolate with plenty to last for the week. Today he was supposed to have a few friends over to watch The Game but they all cancelled at the last minute.

To cheer him up we took him to his favorite restaurant, Chama Gaucha, a Brazilian Steakhouse. I learned my lesson a few years ago, after feeling like I was going to either burst or go into a food coma, to pace myself and only ask for a small piece. Husband and The Boy still each until they are beyond full, and this time we had dessert!

I hope Target has learned it's lesson from the Missoni fiasco and will gradually stock items throughout the collection time period. Luckily, even though there were some cute pieces from the line, there was nothing I really "had to have".

J Crew Spring 2012 Reviews

Hi all! Hope you had a great weekend! I was able to fit in a personal shopping appointment on Saturday, the day before Husband was due home. I had all afternoon to spend trying on the newest collection for Spring. I tried on quite a bit and came home with only one item.

Jules Dress in Fanfare - #70216, 8, Black - I have a lot of love for the Jules Dress. I feel it is so effortless and chic. This "fanfare" print looks to be THE print of the season as it is on everything from dresses to pants to shorts to swimwear. The "8" fit well but I also tried on the "6", below. That size wasn't such a tight fit this time. I would probably add a pop of pink underneath the dress or with my Cece Suede Ballet Flats.

And a "sit-down" shot. I wanted to remind myself how the length was and how much fabric gathered at the waist. You'll see what I mean with another dress below.

Lillian Dress in Watercolor Flora - #73878, 8, Admiral Blue - This was one of the items I was very excited to try on and was happy to see it in the store. Unfortunately, this dress does not work for me. It fits very well in the upper portion (shoulders/arms/bust) but the bottom has too much fabric. This hit me just below the knee so I feel the length was good, especially for a non-casual dress. But as you will see with the sit-down shot below there is way too much fabric bunching up. It does have pockets so that is a plus but, overall, this is a pass for me.

Blythe Blouse in Silk - #37871, 8, Royal Blue - This color is amazing. I love the blues this season. This is so vibrant and just plain gorgeous in silk. Unfortunately, the Blythe Blouse is not for me. It fits in the upper area but there is too much fabric starting at the bust down to the hem. I really need a "6" but it's just a little too snug for me. I really wish I could wear this blouse, as I love this color.

Postage Stamp Mini in Confetti Tweed - #64052, 10, Confetti - Normally I would wear an "8" in minis but this was all that was left in the bigger sizes. The "10" is big on me and you can see where it hits me as far as length. I was wearing this at my hips too so this is probably 16 inches in length. This skirt has lots of colors in it and I think it would be very versatile, I just wish it came in a pencil skirt. I would buy that.

The sit-down..the "8" would probably ride up a little higher.

No. 2 Pencil Skirt in Gardenshade Floral - #64008, 6, Admiral Blue - This is a great alternative to the dress version of this print and goes well with the Blythe Blouse in Royal Blue. This is my normal pencil skirt size and it fits just like all the others. I would consider it on sale with a promo since I don't have an immediate need for any more pencil skirts.

Fanfare Short - #69899, 8, Classic Navy - So first impression of this short on the hanger is that it looked HUGE. I knew it was the print that was causing that illusion. These fit well but I think I could have sized to a 6. We'll see in another 7 pounds.

Rugby Stripe Dress - #67139, M, Navy Grotto - This is a great casual, every day dress though I think some of you taller ladies may find this too short. In comparison to the Maritime Dress I'd say this is a little thinner in material and smaller. I wear a "S" in the Maritime and this was pulling a little in the shoulders/chest.
Classic Merino Cardigan - #65370, M, Cerise - This is what my PS gave me to pair the dress with. I like the colors together and the Merino Cardigan is such a nice lightweight staple to carry you through Spring.

Another item I was very very excited to try on was the Crinkle Chiffon Skirt - #72299, 6, Warm Peacock. Alas, I was very very disappointed in this skirt. The waist band is grosgrain ribbon with no give what-so-ever. I barely got this hooked and zipped. It's sitting at the smallest part of my waist area. The length is well below my knee but not quite to midi length. Also, I was hoping the color would be a little more vibrant and not so dull looking. It reminded me a lot of the Jardin Skirt, which I take an 8 in. I'm so sad I have to pass on this skirt but I can imagine the skirt would snag easily.

Size 8, Navy - Still no better in the waist area. It is now sitting at my natural waist but it is still snug. It also got wider and longer.

5-inch Chino Short - #68925, 8, Neon Pink - I totally missed out on this color and the yellow last year so it was nice to see this color come back. I am starting to shy away from the 3 & 5-inch shorts but this color and the Lemon Zest comes in the 7-inch Chino Short and 9-inch Chino Short.

Scalloped Sateen Skirt - #63860, 6, Royal Violet - This size fit a little small on me. It's a cute skirt and the color is more purple in person.

Boatneck Popover - #64784, M, Apricot/Navy - This sweater really surprised me. I really was not expecting to like it so much. It's a little on the thick side but not in a smothering kind of way. I really like both colors too, although I didn't try on the Cerise Mist. This runs big IMO and I would size down to a Small.

Skirt in Shadow, 8 - This fit a little better but gave me no extra length.

Silk Boy Shirt in Heart Throb - #72214, 8, Red - This is another item that surprised me. I liked it from the catalog but thought it would be too kitschy for any time other than February. I can totally see this under a cardigan or blazer; open with the sleeves rolled up and a tee underneath. See the many ways Ema has styled it.

Here's what I was not expecting from this shirt. 1) The silk is soft and very comfortable. 2) It really does read easy-to-wear once you try it on. 3) The "8" ran a little big on me and I could probably size down to a "6". Is it worth FP? Maybe, especially since I don't think this will make it to a promo. I expect this shirt to sell, quickly. I hope I'm wrong because I want this.

Denim Short in Faded Indigo - #75648, 31, Faded Indigo - So both my PS and I had no idea how these ran so I tried on this size. These were at least two sizes too big, maybe even three. These fit like boyfriend jeans/shorts. I bought a similar pair at the Factory Store in a darker wash for wear around the house and pool.

High-Waisted Buckle Short - #60118, 8, Shadow - Even though these are high-waisted I wish they were an inch or two longer. But they are very cute and fit very well and tailored. And they look great with the Silk Boy Shirt in Heart Throb.

Schoolboy Blazer in Herringbone - #37852, 8, Neon Pink - I was very happy to see this color in my store. I wish they had gotten the Chili colorway too but that won't be for a few weeks or so. This is my normal size in blazers and it fits very well. I love love this color and it looks great with both the High-Waisted Buckle Short and the Windowpane Scarf. The pink is bright but not neon-y pink.

Paintbox Floral Cardigan - #65521, M, Casablanca Blue - Cute cardigan. Reminds me of Anthro.
Polly Popover in Stripe Crepe de Chine - #72387, 8, Green Navy - I like green and navy together. This shirt ran big, IMO and I would size down to a 6 if I bought it. But I do have a new Loft cardigan in this same colorway that I feel is more versatile, since it's a cardi.

I like it with the shorts.

Fanfare Tunic - #68128, S, Blue Orchard - A lovely beach cover-up in the Fanfare print. This fit TTS, as I find most of the cover-ups run big.

Fanfare Popover - #68397, M, Classic Navy - Another shirt that looks great with the shorts. I love that it's navy and not black. I wish the Jules Dress was in Navy as I prefer this colorway better. This fit TTS.

And with the Schoolboy Blazer. So cute.

Wow! That was a lot. I hope these reviews help, especially those of you who are more my size/build. My store had the Cafe' Capri in Morse Code Jacquard but not in my size or a size down so I was unable to get a fit on those. Oh, and what did I get, you wonder? The Jules Dress of course, in the size 6. It was the only thing I really liked after the disappointing fit of the Crinkle Chiffon Skirt and the Lillian Dress.

J Crew Resort/Spring 2012 Reviews

A lovely little J Crew box came Monday from my favorite brown Sancho. A few items that I didn't mind paying full price for and a non-final sale sweater.

Jardin Skirt - Tropical Cove, 8 - I knew I was going to get this skirt in this color, it was just a matter of when. The Jardin Skirt is one of my favorites from 2011 and this color of blue is so lovely, I can't seem to get enough of it, as you'll see below.

9" Chino Short - Bright Green, 8 - I always get at least one of the new colors of the 9" or Bermuda shorts each year. This is the same color as the Boardwalk Cargo Short from last year. Such a pretty green and I quite like it with my dots I wore Monday.

French Dove Graphic Tee - Casablanca Blue, M - Again, my new favorite blue color. This has an embroidered red heart at the bottom of the tee.

Fisherman Sweater - Byzantine Blue, M - I have this in Beechwood from 2011 and love it. I hope this color is in my store because though the Medium fits, I would like to try the Small. I did get this with the 30% off, since it was moved to a promo price of $78 last week. ~~You can now get it with the 40% off, since it is still on promo.~~ It was removed from promo this morning. Hope some of you were able to get it yesterday.

Loft Reviews

Last weekend I stopped in at the Loft after seeing some lovely window displays with bright colors. They were also having 40% off everything and 50% off sale items.

Linen/Cotton Sweater in Berry, PM, $49.50 - I was drawn to this color and the lightweight-ness of the sweater. You do need a nude bra and or a cami underneath. Also came in Bright Blue, Green, and Linen/Natural.

This skirt is either the Corded Dobby Stripe A-Line Skirt or very similar. It is missing the pockets that the Dobby skirt has. I like the J Crew Stripe Sweater Skirt but I'm afraid it may stretch out and/or snag easily. This skirt is a perfect substitution for the JC skirt. This a size 6.

Marina Stripe Boatneck Top - Sz M - This runs small and I returned it for the green-striped sweater below. This is sold-out online already.

Bike Girl Boatneck Tee - Sz S - This tee is so cute and there were only three left in the store, a XS, S and L and it is already sold out online. So I had an SA grab this off a mannequin. I've already worn it with the green-striped cardigan below.

Trench Girl Boatneck Tee - Sz M - Another graphic tee that is just adorable. These were flying off the hangers too but there are still some online.

Painted Diagonal Striped Scarf - Green/Blue - This is very sheer and lightweight and perfect for my trip to Paris and Italy. The Vivid Orchid is still available online and there were a few of this colorway still in my store.

Colorblock Stripe Skirt - Paradiso Blue, Sz 4 - This is a gorgeous lightweight rugby-stripe skirt. Saturday, Loft had a Facebook promotion. If you "Liked" them, you received a coupon for $50 off $100 or more. That's what I used to get this skirt and the polka dot sweater below. This skirt runs big. The size 6 sat at my low waist, almost to the hips and the length was at least an inch below the knee. The size 4 sits at my waist, comfortably and hits mid-knee. I could tuck in a shirt and still feel comfortable.

Striped Jackie Cardigan - #65041, M, Navy - So I was eyeing this Loft sweater last week but it fit too cropped and tight in the arms, in a Medium, so I passed on it. This cardigan fits TTS and has bracelet sleeves and I don't have a striped cardigan. And navy and white is so classic. - .$54.50 plus 30% off

Sailor Sweater - #65022, Sm, Sailor Blue - I sized down from my normal Medium. This fit well in the Small. I suppose it is meant to be loose and slouchy. Also comes in Black Linen. $69.50 plus 30% off

Floral Tunic - #12572, Sm, TAM - I believe this is meant to be worn as a cover-up, otherwise you'll need a cami underneath to avoid exposing the girls. I have this pulled up some to avoid exposure. $59.50 plus 30% off

Factory Cap-Sleeve Blouse in Gingham - #66618, Sm, AGI Azalea Gingham? - Mary Ann or Ellie Mae? Cute but not for me. I don't like elastic on my sleeves. See it here in Chambray. $44.50 plus 20% off

DRESSES
Cotton Shift Dress - #36740, 6, Navy - This is a very cute dress. It comes in Navy, Modern Red, and Natural. The Size 6 fit well through the bust and good through the waist seaming.

Modern Red, Sz 8 - You can see the pleating at the bust lays a little flatter than the 6. I preferred this size to the 6 but I would say get your normal size if you are interested in this dress. I would have bought this in both the Navy and Modern Red, if there had been an 8 in the Navy. $98 plus 20%

Cap-Sleeve Dress - #69414, 6, Popsicle Pink - This was a little tight in the bust an arms for me (elastic sleeve), and short. It zips up the back with an exposed zipper. And it a very PINK dress. I couldn't not try it on, it was so bright. I would size up to an 8 but there weren't any to try on. $89.50 plus 20%

Striped Dress - #68389, 8, Black - This is a very cute dress. It's a pull-over style, with no zipper and only a button at the back of the neck. The waist is elastic in the back. As you can see it is a little blouse-y on top. I would have sized to a 6 but there were none left.

Dotted Strapless Dress - #23064, 8, Navy - This is a teeny tiny polka-dot dress, with pockets. I want to say this is the Lorelei style, in the retail version. Very cute.

Same Dress in a Size 6. This fit a little more snug in the top but I was able to zip this up all the way. I'd stay with an 8, which is what I'd normally get in a strapless dress.

Seersucker Mini - #23294, 8, Classic Navy - Very cute mini skirt with some adorable buttons. $59.50 plus 20%

Textured Cotton Mini - #25807, 8, Wild Blackberry - I liked the texture of this mini. I have a pencil skirt in the same texture. It has a slightly exposed back zipper and comes in Natural and Rhubarb. I could have sized to a 6 as this was a little loose in the waist and hips. $56.50 plus 20%

Twill Bell Skirt - #61251, 8, Poppy - I prefer to wear an 8 in these elastic waist skirts so I can adjust how I wear it to give me more or less length. $58 plus 20% off

Agate, 6 - If there had been an 8 in this Viridian Green-ish color I would have brought it home with me. Love!

Ann Taylor Resort/Spring 2012

I was a busy little shopping bee this weekend, also stopping by and trying on some new Ann Taylor items. They've been having almost weekly promotions for a while now, with their current offering, as of Sunday night, being 40% off everything plus free shipping on a purchase of $150 or more.

Striped Scoopneck Short-Sleeve Tee - M, Green House, also comes in Black - I saw stripes everywhere all weekend. I had purchased the Marina Striped Boatneck Tee in Lush Green from Loft but it was too small so I was happy to find this one at AT.

Cotton Twill Perfect Walking Shorts - 8, Black, also comes in White and two tones of Khaki - This size was loose in the waist and hips on me so I sized to a 6.

Size 6 - A better fit throughout the waist and hips. I think these will be perfect for our trip to Europe this summer. These hit me right above the knee but may hit a little higher on you taller ladies. It's a great comfortable short.

Cotton Side Zip Shorts - 8, Blue Lapis - Again, these were quite loose on me in the waist and hips. This is my favorite color of the Spring.

Size 6 - A much better fit throughout the waist and hips.

Modern Cropped Denim Jeans - 8, Blue (very similar in color to the Blue Grotto at J Crew). They also come in Campfire and Dayglow Yellow. The 8, again, was loose through the hip and thigh but I could tell they were not as tight or snug as the J Crew Garment Dyed-Twill Jeans.

Size 6 - A much better fit. Also, these are meant to be cropped but are ankle length on me (5' 2").

Dayglow Yellow in 6 - I think it was the color that shows more than I wanted. I didn't try the 8 in these but might prefer them over the 6.

Scoopneck Short-Sleeve Tee - M, Blue Lapis - Another cute colored tee that fits TTS and comes in a variety of colors.

Striped Knit Top - #268151, Small, Green/Black, $78 - Fits TTs and feels like a ponte knit. It is not currently online.

Tuxedo Stripe Jeans - 6, Marine Blue - These are a slim fit jean with a black tuxedo stripe along the sides. These are the regular not the Petite as you can see by the length on one leg, where I'm on my toes. Cute concept but not for me.

Colorblocked Silk Short-Sleeve Top - 6, Electric Blue - Fits TTs and is 92% Silk, 8% Spandex.

Doubleweave Fashion Ankle Pants - 6, Intense Cobalt - This is a Cotton/Poly/Spandex blend that feels like a ponte' knit. These should hit an average height person right above the ankle but, of course, on me, below the ankle. This was quite comfortable and with the spandex will stretch out some when you wear them.

Whew! So that was my Ann Taylor afternoon. See anything you like?

I was able to stop by the J Crew Factory Store on Saturday and try on a few things. The store was a little bare but only because they are expecting a lot of Spring arrivals this Wednesday. Not sure when the update to the website will be for those items, or if it's already happened. All sale items, ending in $0.97 cents was an additional 30% off, final sale.

Factory Perfect Shirt in Printed Cotton - #23871, Gallery Green, M - Fits TTS, like a 6/8. The green was really pretty which is what caught my eye. $59.50 w/extra 30% Perfect Shirts off in-store. Online price $34.50.

Factory Couplet Dress - #46975, EVE Evergreen?, 8 - The top was a little too blouse-y but the bottom fit well, not too tight. $59.97 plus 30% off Final Sale. Online price $69.99

Tinsel Lace Dress - Retail item found at the Factory Store - #58522, Black, 8 - This fit TTS for me as I am an 8 in the strapless dresses. Unlike the Tinsel Tweed Pencil Skirt, I did not feel the metallic threading poking through the lining. There are still several online available. $39.97 plus 30% off, final sale...yep...$28 bucks! This is $49.99 online.

Factory Siren Dress - #61911, Black, M - This size was a loose fit on me. I like the casual jersey feel of the dress. $29.97 plus 30% off final sale. Online price $49.99

Charcoal, S - This fit a little better, especially in the top.

Charcoal, XS - I could do this size but the look and fit of the small suited me better. They also had the Pale Wisteria in-store but not in the XS when I asked for additional sizes.

This fits TTS and as you can see, the length on me is right at the knee but the waist is sitting just at my natural waist. This one came home with me, as you saw from my earlier post. $75 plus 25% off Skirts. Online price $65.00.

Factory Printed Pencil Skirt - #37532, Wisteria Multi, 4 - Oddly enough, the 4 fit me well, maybe a teeny bit snug through the hips but not bad at all. I like the print and it looked nice paired with the Cotton V-Neck Sweater in Vivid Aqua. There are three other colors offered online but I didn't see them in-store. $79.50 plus 25% off Skirts. Online price $49.50.

Factory Skimmer Pant - #37033, Modern Red, 6 - This was the item I was most anticipating to try on. Unfortunately, there was no size 8 to try on in this color. The 6 was quite snug in the waist and hips. $59.50 I think there was a % off but I can't remember what it was. Online price $49.50.

Dark Beechwood, 8 - This was a much better fit. The length on both the 6 and 8 hit me right below the ankle so it was not cropped at all. I would have this hemmed so that it would be a true skimmer pant.

Factory Dotted Shorts (online as the Factory Flora Paisley Lily Short) - #37569, FrostyMint, 8 - These were so cute. I wish they had been a 3-inch inseam. $49.50 plus 20% off (online price is $44.50)

Que Bella - Just Peachy

I have had a really busy weekend and it's not quite over yet. Husband left for India for 16 days on Friday and left everything to the last minute, including checking his departure time which was 2 1/2 hours before he was supposed to leave. Luckily he had just zipped up his last bag so he was packed. He made his flight, due to some super-speedy/no-traffic-on-the-way driving by me and is now safely in his hotel in India.

And, since "checking what time you are supposed to be somewhere" seems to run in the family, The Boy missed his bus Saturday morning by getting the words "be there" and "leaving at" completely confused. As we were driving up to the school we passed by the bus at the traffic light. He called his teammates who were on the bus and they confirmed that, yes, they had left. So, since I had nothing else to do but run a 15 year-old all over Central Texas I drove him to the game, an hour away.

And it gets better.

We got to the fields and his team wasn't there. When we left we were about 5 minutes ahead or behind the bus. I even stopped for breakfast so if they were behind us they would have caught up to us. Turns out the bus broke down about 20 minutes from the school. If I had gone the same way as the bus I would have 1) met up with them and 2) handed over The Boy. So, we killed about 45 minutes waiting for his team. Luckily, we were in our old hometown of New Braunfels, from 5 years ago, so we stopped at our favorite German bakery, Naegelin's Bakery, for some donuts, I grabbed a Starbucks, we drove by our old home and we drove by Schlitterbahn aka "The Hottest, Coolest Time in Texas" and was the top water park as deemed by the Travel Channel.

Whew! So, once The Boy was handed off, I decided that since it was only a 15 minute drive I would go to the outlet mall. I hit up J Crew, of course, so be on the lookout for a review later today. They said new Spring arrivals would be in on Wednesday. And, once I left, since I apparently wasn't done shopping, I came back home and went to the mall and Ann Taylor. So look for that review soon too. They have some colored jeans that are similar to J Crew's Toothpick jeans in the new bright colors but they fit much much better, IMO.

Of course, after all that driving and shopping I needed a night out. I met up with some friends for dinner at Perry's Steakhouse, which just opened. I had a wonderful time and some fantastic food. I knew I wanted to wear my Giraffe Cuff so I planned my outfit around the peachy colors in it. I originally had on this skirt, which I found yesterday at the J Crew Factory.

But when I walked outside it was just a little too cold to go bare-legged so I changed into these plaid cashmere pants I found on ebay late last year. They were a sample and fit like a dream. I had them hemmed to wear with heels. I added my Ecole Blazer in Brown Velvet for a little extra warmth on top.

You can kind of see that the peachy-pink tones of the bracelet go well with the sweater. It is such a statement piece. Our waiter even noticed it and commented on it.

I also stopped by Ann Taylor Loft on Friday and they had some very cute things for Spring, so I'll be posting those items too. The only place I didn't stop at and do try-ons was at Anthropologie. But maybe I'll do that today or next weekend.

I think I've been doing pretty well with my "one in, two out" closet purge. I'm not quite even but I have sold 32 "loved but not worn" items from my closet to others who will "love AND wear" them. Not bad for 13 days. Today, I went by J Crew to make two returns - the Jackie Pullover in Canvas and the Stripe Sweater Dress. I was just going to return both items but I did walk around the store to see if there was anything that peaked my interest to try on but I didn't find anything...except for this.

Enameled Giraffe Cuff

Isn't she just the cutest thing? It was the last one in the store and I was told this is an in-store only item so it may not show up online. It's $98 and the Style # may be 74693 from what I can tell on the tag attached to it. The Frog Necklace was sold out and so was the Bubble Necklace in yellow, which I never saw. It has a hinge where it opens, which you can see in the second picture.

I'm off to a Board meeting. Over the summer, I was "talked into" joining the board of our HOA. A margarita might have been involved. But it's interesting but, my goodness, sometimes there are just complainers, both at the meetings and on the board. I say "Be happy you have a nice home in a great neighborhood." We don't ask a lot of the homeowners but you'd think we were going to peoples homes and inspecting everything. I usually just sit and listen mostly.

Tonight is our annual board meeting, where all the homeowners should attend. And I'm finally wearing my Viridian Green No. 2 Pencil Skirt. How long have I had this? Oh, since it came out...in August!

J Crew Spring 2012 Reviews

Before the new year, J Crew updated their site with some new arrivals for Resort/Spring 2012. I was anxious to see the No. 2 Pencil Skirt in Warm Jade along with the new Jackie Pullover. My store won't be receiving anything until next week and I didn't want to wait that long so I placed an order.

Here are my first reviews of Resort/Spring 2012.

No. 2 Pencil Skirt in Double-Serge Cotton - #59369, $110, Warm Jade, Sz 6 - I quite like this color IRL. Online, the color did not look like the little sample color in the catalog so I was worried it wouldn't be as lovely as I hoped. But I didn't need to worry. I love the color. It's vibrant and a very pretty green, maybe a little darker than the pictures below. This fits well in my normal size 6. The cotton is nice, a little thick (double-serge) and sturdy. It is unlined, which I believe is how they were last year too, and that's ok with me. I added some heels to get a better idea of the length, which is 22 inches long. I don't think I'll have this hemmed as this hits just below the knee on me. This one is a keeper, even at full price.

Jackie Pullover - #65341, $65, Canvas, M - I ordered the Jackie Pullover in Canvas and Byzantine Blue. I thought about ordering the Warm Jade and Bright Violet but I was immediately drawn to the Blue in the catalog and I also wanted to see a neutral color in this new item. I have to say I am a little disappointed in this pullover. Immediately, even while still in the plastic packaging, I could tell this was a different texture and was thicker than the Jackie Cardigan. I was expecting something a little more lightweight like the cardigan. I don't have any of the Jackie Shells so I can't compare the two.

The Canvas color is a nice neutral and goes well with the Warm Jade pencil skirt. I just couldn't get over the texture of this sweater. The Cotton V-Neck Sweater is a much lighter weight than the pullover. My normal size Medium fits perfectly.

Here I have the Jackie Cardigan in Pearl (from 2010) on top and the Jackie Pullover in Canvas on the bottom. I tried to capture the texture I'm seeing so I hope you can see it too. As far as material they are both the same Cotton/Nylon/Spandex but with slightly different percentages.
2010 Jackie Cardigan: 66% Cotton, 29% Nylon, 5% Spandex
2012 Jackie Pullover: 66% Cotton, 31% Nylon, 3% Spandex

Here is the Byzantine Blue. This is another vibrant color and I originally thought it wouldn't pair well with the Warm Jade pencil skirt but I think it does. I'll look for this color in another cardigan or top. This is the color I was hoping the Jackie Cardigan in Pacific would be. I honestly do not like the Jackie Pullover but I know a lot of you will so I hope the review and pics of the colors will help you. I'll be returning both colors.

Before I knew my store would not be receiving any Resort/Spring 2012 until next week, I stopped by to have a look. There was nothing new that interested me other than this skirt.
Gimlet Skirt in Coaster Stripe - #55688, #118, Dark Blue, 6 - Here's what J Crew says about this skirt.

A festive fan of pleats along the waist renders this classic A-line skirt a sophisticated pick for all your invitations of the season. We can't get enough of its ladylike length (it hits right at the knee for that fabulous swing). The best part? We fashioned it in alternating transparent and opaque stripes, just like the vintage dress one of our stylists sported around the office to rave reviews.

I saw this skirt and immediately thought of how I would stroll around Paris and Italy wearing it with a lovely linen blouse and sweet little wedge sandals. It's very organza-ish but is actually Cotton/Nylon. The close-up of the pattern and material does not do it justice. The size 6 fits well on me. This skirt is meant to sit at your waist or just a tiny bit lower. It hits right at the knee (perfect for the times we'll be sight-seeing and walk inside a church).

I kept this skirt in the bag, in my truck, for a week before bringing it inside but I could never get it out of my head. See, here WAS my dilemma. I have a Banana Republic Seersucker skirt that is similar in style to this skirt. I immediately thought of that skirt, after my strolling around Paris/Italy thought, when I saw this skirt. But I decided they are both two different skirts and I don't have strolling visions with that other skirt. The only negative about this skirt is that it doesn't have pockets. That would make this skirt absolutely perfect in my book.

Year 40 Goals

Hi everyone! Are you settled in to 2012 yet? I think I am except for this last part below.

I haven't made resolutions in a long time. I usually break them within the first week or two so I stopped doing it. But this year is different. This year, in 6 months/179 days, I will have a birthday ending in a "0"..."Lordy, Lordy". It feels like I have been in my 30s forever, especially these last few years. As fast as the days and months have gone by, the actual years up to 40 have been going by slow, if that makes any sense.

So, this year, I'm going to set some goals for myself. The Boy will be getting his license soon and be out and about enjoying his new freedom. So, I need something to keep myself busy.

HEALTH
-Lose 25 pounds - In 2011, I reached my heaviest weight ever. It isn't pretty and I don't feel good about it at all. Gaining twenty pounds in two years isn't pretty and I'm going to do something about it. Besides, I want to fit into this damn, expensive corset again! It cost too much to have worn only once.

I hope to have lost half of this weight by my birthday. To do this I'll be eating better, doing The Shred and drinking a lot more water. Husband will be on a trip for work overseas in a few weeks so that will help with the eating better part. He usually wants to eat all protein, a la Atkins and I prefer a less red meat...a lighter breakfast (yogurt w/granola and a piece of fruit), salad for lunch and a light dinner (fish, chicken, small steak).

-Eat out less. Cook dinner in more.
We, as a family, are very bad about picking something up to eat instead of taking the time to make dinner. I have some great cookware and I plan on taking some cooking classes and trying some new recipes this year.

STYLE
-One in, Two out
Honestly, since I work from home I really do not need all that I have in my closet. Like pencil skirts...when will I wear these? Silk blouses...Like I would check the mail in one. I started purging in 2011 but will be more aggressive about it in 2012. I want well made, classic pieces with a little "fun" thrown in. I won't say I will stop shopping altogether or have a splurge every once in a while but for the most part I will consume less. Look for frequent updates on my Closet Blog.

SELF & FAMILY
-Spend that "saved" clothing money on me, in a different way.
In 2011, I have noticed my complexion has been awful. I have always had very good complexion but this year I have had continuous breakouts on my cheeks. I know this is from stress, the foods I eat and the make-up I'm using. I can't figure out which one it is but I've tossed them all and am starting fresh. I will also get a facial more frequently. And drink more water.

-Go on a family vacation. This one is already in the planning stages. Husband has been researching, since before Christmas, a trip to Europe. He was originally thinking March, during Spring Break, but he has a conference he forgot about that he needs to attend. So, it will be in June or July. Right now, the itinerary is either Paris and Italy or Italy and Spain. Most of our time will be spent in Italy. I've already been planning my outfits and will be asking for advice and suggestions once I know when and where we will be going.

-Brush up/Learn Spanish - I know a little to get by in Mexico when I'm on a beach vacation but Spain/Italy will be a lot different. Since I know a little Spanish I'll stick with that as opposed to trying to learn Italian. If I have time I will work on a few conversational basics in Italian.

So that about wraps up my goals for the year, prepping for the big Four-Oh!. Do you have any goals for 2012? Any milestones you'd like to accomplish?

I guess I should add brushing up on my technology and blogger skills too. This should have posted today and not Dec. 27.

Que Bella - New Year's Eve 2011

Happy New Year dear readers! I hope everyone had a safe and fun New Year's celebration Saturday and Sunday. Thank you for all the lovely comments on my NYE post. I wish you all a fabulous 2012, full of passion, joy, love and shopping (a teeny bit for some of you from what I've been reading).

We had some great friends over for a small dinner party NYE. The meal was amazing. Husband cooked some fantastic steaks and everyone brought over some fantastic appetizers, sides and dessert (cheesecake!). We drank some champagne and played a little Wii Pictionary (so much fun!) to kill some time before heading out to a little club to ring in the new year. We had great fun in our little "VIP" section, as Husband made reservations for us so we could rest our dancing feet whenever we wanted.

The Boy did not go with us, of course. He was invited at the last minute (how's noon on NYE) to a party at a friend's house. So I had to manage prepping my part of dinner (baked tomatoes...yummy!), getting dressed for the evening and driving him to his friend's a little early so I could make it back to welcome our guests. I arrived home the same time our guests arrived so it was all perfect timing.

There were Classic ballet flats and Cece ballet flats in various bright colors. Shorts and button-down shirts in new Spring colors too.

Que Bella - Christmas Edition

I hope everyone had a lovely Christmas Day. We have been traveling north and south of my home the past three days seeing family for Christmas. I think everyone received what they asked for plus a little bit extra. I received some Talbots, Anthro, Philosophy and a little J Crew.

I was at my parents on Christmas Day and before leaving town I ran into my cousin, who's in from NYC. As you can see, I have a fashionable family. It was quite amusing to everyone, seeing us in the same print. I was able to find the dress on ebay after seeing Dina in it. I quite love it too and went with grays instead of blacks. My cousin did black and brown and I think she was wearing the MacAlister Wedge Boot in either Mink or Nut, or at least something similar looking.

Hi everyone! We are in the home stretch of holiday shopping. Is everyone ready for Christmas? I have some presents to wrap and a few more gift card/stocking-stuffers to buy. I'll do that on Friday, after grabbing my Peppermint Mocha from Starbucks.

I was summoned to the office for the last visit of the year and was able to wear my flair skirt again. I've worn all three of mine at least twice each this month. I think my they are my favorite purchases of the year and probably the most worn!

J Crew New Arrivals...Spring 2012

I haven't taken advantage of any of the J Crew-palooza promos since Cyber-Monday. But with today's 30% off online and in-store I decided to stop in and make an exchange and see what new arrivals there might be. There were some bright new items for the Spring 2012 Collection. I was really excited to see new colors of the Tippi sweater. You'll see three of them below. Floral Perfect Shirt - #60715, BBL, 8, $88, 57% Cotton/43% Silk - The texture reminds me of the Rose Vines Perfect Shirt. I do like it with the Neon Azalea Tipp and it looks good with the other Tippi below.

Jules Dress in Floral - #61607, BBL, 6, $188, 100% Silk/100% Acetate Lining - On the hanger this print is a lot to take in. But once you get it on it's not so bad. I love that it's 100% Silk.

Stripe Sweater Dress - I tried this on here and this one is the size Small. I decided to exchange the original Medium for the Small. It fits better and will probably stretch a bit.

Collection Striped Silk Tunic - #56512, FGR (something Gray), 8, $128 - This size was big on me but I didn't have the chance to try on the 6.
Ankle Toothpick Jean in Garment-Dyed Twill - #62443, LCI (Light Citron), 30 - These jeans are so comfortable and soft and bright! But they do show things you might not want shown (dimples and extra things and stuff). Not sure if the Blue Grotto will be the same. The Neon Persimmon looks like a good color too.

City Mini in Blackwatch Plaid- #62440, BLA (Blackwatch), 6 - This must have been just an in-store only release. Cute and there weren't many left in the store. But I was able to snag the Schoolboy Blazer in Blackwatch Tartan on sale plus the 30% off so I passed on the skirt.

What do you think of some of these Spring items? I am really liking the Tippi colors and you'll be seeing the green on me soon.

Que Bella - Cashmere

Many years ago I disliked Cashmere very much because it was too itchy. My opinion has since changed and I love wearing it alone or layered. I must have had a bad batch or something because cashmere is no longer itchy to me but so soft and cozy. I could wear it all day, every day. And I pretty much have been doing just that.

Right now I am a J Crew snob and only have J Crew Cashmere BUT I do want to try other brands (Talbots, LE, etc.) if I can find just the right color. I have purchased at least one "fun" color and one "staple" color a year. I have a range of Tees (short and long-sleeve), Cardigans, V-Neck Sweaters, and Shawl Collar Sweaters. I have only bought my Cashmere on sale or with a % off or both (as it seems to be with JC these days). The rest I have found on ebay, quite the treasure trove out there, but I know you KWIM.

As far as my "fun" colors, I have Bright Dahia, Deep Poppy, a true Red from Old Navy, Jalapeño, Viridian Green or something similar to that, Dark Orange, Pink and Turquoise. For my "staple" colors, I have Snow (white), Black, Navy, Heather Caramel (camel), Cobblestone (gray) and Green. I like the fun colors because they do liven up a pair of jeans or pants.

So, I found some time to take 3 outfit pics this week. I am lucky I have ~~found~~ made the time to get dressed every day. But each day I've had little errands to run so I'm not doing it at the last minute on Christmas Eve.

Monday...I felt patriotic but very warm and cozy. My legs were a little cold and could have used tights and boots instead of flats. I LOVE the Flair Skirt. It was a sizing issue for me that made me originally not like it but when I found my perfect size I was happy with the fit and "flair" of it all.

Wednesday...I really like the color of these cords. I never saw them online so I believe they were an in-store only color. I had these hemmed for flats even though I bought the 29 Short. I think she removed at least two inches. As for this tee, I thought I had lost it. It had been missing for almost a year and then one day when I was going through my "handwash" only laundry I found it. Yay!

Today...I wanted to somewhat re-create this look. I know the image is a little small and blurry but you can go here to see it.

I liked the Tuxedo pant with the scarf and the glittery shoes. I completely missed out on this scarf but was able to find it at ASOS for much less than the JC Cashmere Scarf. Thank you Andrea, over at Life's Divine blog, for pointing me to it! (Also see the Forever 21 scarf!) I wanted to layer the Cashmere Tee but realized I do not have a black button-down shirt other than the Tartan Perfect Shirt, which I wore Thursday (sorry no pic) so I couldn't wear it again. (You can see it in my Polyvore strip on the right.) I settled on a J Crew Haberdashery in White from a few years ago along with Wool Tuxedo pants. I added the Asos scarf and I was off to J Crew.

I think I finally found a present for Husband the he will not expect. Not only is he hard to buy for but he spoils his gifts every year, including the Kindle he was going to get this year. He also found a stocking-stuffer and tried to use it before I caught him. The Boy is easy - cash and gift cards to Barnes & Nobles. But I am working with Santa on a special gift this year. Something he's not expecting at all. As for what I want, thank goodness for the Amazon Universal Wishlist Button or I wouldn't have anything under the tree. Not that I really want anything but it's helpful for the in-laws so they can pick something they know I will like.

Well, I'm off to try and wrap some presents this evening. Tomorrow I will be shopping for the nephews and niece and grabbing stocking-stuffers.

Que Bella - Christmas Casual

Husband and I are off to an office Christmas party this evening. The dress code stated "Christmas Casual". This is about as "casual" as I'm going to get and still feel fan-cee.

And talk about those shoes...my favorites from last year, the J Crew Flannery Platform Peep-Toe. I love everything about this shoe. The different textures: flannel, suede, patent. The heel height with a platform making it very manageable to walk-in. The mary-jane strap and the peep-toe that has the maroon patent peeking out.

The top is J Crew Factory I purchased last month and the pants are the Lolli's from last year. I'll throw on my Boutonniere Blazer from last year and be ready to go. I must confess it was really hard to keep this outfit my version of casual. And from also being too typical "Christmas-y". You know, lots of red and or green.

Review: Jules Dress & Stripe Sweater Dress

One of my last few orders from the recent J Crew Sale-a-paloozas were the Jules Dress in wool and the Stripe Sweater Dress. I had been eyeing the Sweater Dress for a while and like how it is styled online with a white button-up underneath. I have much love for the Jules Dress in Wildcat and was hoping I would like one of the solid colors just as much.

First up the Jules Dress. I debated for a few days between the Heather Aluminum (Gray) and the Fresh Strawberry. I could add pops of color to the Gray or add black or navy to tone down the Strawberry so it was a tough choice. I ended up choosing the Fresh Strawberry to have a bright color to punch up the winter time.

This is a size 8, which is the same size as the one in Wildcat that I own. I'm not quite sold on this. The wool is nice and lightweight. The color is not a strong red but is still pretty bright. I think I should have gotten the gray but my size is now sold-out so if I return this one I may not have another chance at it again, in either color.

Next up is the Stripe Sweater Dress. This is a Size Medium. It is a little loose in the shoulders and upper arms for me, which is a nice change for me and means it won't feel tight when I add a button-down underneath. As you can see, short-arm syndrome has struck again but the sleeves can be cuffed. I like the length as well on this too. And, it's not itchy. And the color, I love the color.

Here it is belted, which I really like. I lost a teeny bit of length but now it has some shape to it.

Two front pockets you barely notice

I would say you could size down on this one. I could exchange it for a Small but because of how I plan to wear it, layered and belted, I will stick with a Medium. Also, I think the stripes are a nice width that they don't make me look wider than I already am in the hips.

So what do you think of these two dresses? Plan on purchasing them during the new promo offer?

A Visit to the Outlet Mall

On Wednesday I took the afternoon off and went to the Prime Outlets "up the road" with my friend Catalina. I hadn't been shopping shopping at the outlet in a long time. Usually when I'm in town, it is for work and then I just pop in to the J Crew FS. I've never had enough time to walk around and pop in to the other stores. We had a lot of fun and brought home a few things.

First off, from J Crew, natch...Most everything in the store was an extra percentage off. One thing I did notice was that they received a lot more shoes so they had them on a wall as opposed to the other side of the jewelry stand. Otherwise, there was nothing new from my last trip there.

I have been looking for a brown bootie for a while. I have 3 pairs of the J Crew Bronson booties and love them. (I'll do a "Shoes-day" post on them soon.) I found these Cole Haan Cheyenne booties at Neiman Marcus Last Call. I had originally found them at the Cole Haan outlet for $238 plus 30% off. Then we went to NMLC and I found them for $169 plus 30% off. Of course I took the others back. They don't have Nike Air but that's ok as Cole Haan shoes are well made. Cole Haan did have these in Black but NMLC did not.

At the Lucky Brand outlet, Catalina and I both loved this cardigan and we both bought it. The embroidery on it is just perfect. I've always been a fan of their items that have embroidery on it. This, as well as a few other items in the store were buy one get on 50% off.

At Talbots I tried on a few skirts that were reminiscent of the J Crew Harvest Tweed items but was unable to find a size that fit well. I felt like I was in The Three Bears: The 6 was too small. The 8P was pulling at the hips and the 8 was too loose. None were just right.

When I walked out of the dressing room, Catalina had this skirt in her hands. I found another one in the petite section. It is exactly like the J Crew Merino Pleated Skirt except it is not 100% wool but a wool blend. Considering what happened to my original skirt from J Crew, the first thing I did was pull at the waistband seaming to see if it would come apart. I guess because it is a wool blend the stitching was staying put. This, and most skirts, were 50% off so I go this for $40.

Kate Spade was another stop we made. I hadn't been in the store since it opened a few years ago. I wanted almost one of everything. Handbags were all 30% off and some were even another 30% off. After seeing the wallets I really wanted one but couldn't make a decision on which one so I ventured to the clothes. I found the City Lights skirt but since I had just received my City Lights scarf from the Sample Sale I passed on it.

I did find the Matinee Floral Top on sale for $89 plus 60% off. I love all the different colors in it.

I also found the Celeste Too Pumps in Fuchsia on sale for $225 plus 40% off. They also had the black satin and the black wool, both very pretty. I just couldn't pass up this gorgeous festive color.

We had a lovely afternoon browsing and getting each other's opinions on clothes. I always shop alone and it was kind of fun to shop with someone else for a change. We promised each other we would not wear our cardigan at the same time (but if we do, I won't mind because it is just too cute.)

I was immediately drawn to the Vintage Violet color of the Vintage Matchstick Cords. These pants are such a pretty light purple color. I had an issue with the length, even at the "short" inseam of 30 inches. I finally found an alterations place that is good and inexpensive so I had these altered to go with flats. They are now perfect.
