Wendy's Bid for Value contest

Today was the last day of Wendy's 99 cent Bid for Value contest. Some lucky person won a Hyundai 2008 Santa Fe SE. worth $28,000.

"The promotion (the "Promotion") is set up in reverse auction style, whereby each time an entrant submits a bid ("Bid"), a ticker ("Ticker") originating at the Prize's Average Retail Value ("ARV") will reduce in a specified increment (e.g. $1 or $0.01) for each Bid until it reaches $0.99. The entrant whose Bid causes the Ticker to reach $0.99 (as hereinafter defined, the "Successful Bid" and "Successful Bidder'), will win the stated prize (the "Prize"), subject to verification."

At, 2:00PM est, I made my first bid and got this error message but the site was fixed in no time and the contest was underway.

In order to make a bid a random question about Wendy's Restaurant needs to be answered.

If the answer is correct a bid is submitted.

My last successful bid was $1,079.xx something and then the contest was over. :(

Occasionally while bidding, this node error showed up and I had to click the refresh on my browser.

The bidding was slow but the contest was fun because it was different than other contests. As you can see, in the second to last screen capture, Wendy's will have more of these contests in the future. :)

Michael Moore wants you to be a sitting duck

I mostly agree with Michael Moore, especially his position on health care but his attack against the late Charlton Heston and the Second Amendment is downright shameful.

On his website, Moore insinuates that Heston, former NRA president, is somehow responsible for all the shooting deaths in the United States.

I guess Moore wants unlawful people to be able to shoot and terrorize defenseless people at will.

He attacks G. W. Bush for censoring the Constitution and yet he himself wants to censor the Second Amendment, which clearly allows us to own guns.

Make up your mind Michael Moore, do you want to defend our rights or censor them like Bush.

An Enchanted movie

I watched the Disney film, Enchanted, starring Amy Adams and a cute little chipmunk. The film starts out in an animated world with Giselle singing, dancing and talking to animals and she gets engaged to marry the prince. The Queen pushes Giselle into a deep magical hole because she doesn't want her son to get married or she will no longer be the Queen but it didn't work out as planned.

Giselle is magically teleported into the miserable reality of the real world and is no longer animated. The prince, played by James Marsden, jumps into the hole, along with a chipmunk, to try and rescue her. The Queen, played by Susan Sarandon, sends her henchman after them and orders him to destroy Giselle with a poisoned apple.

The acting by all was fair but the best performance was by the chipmunk. That little chipmunk deserves an academy award!

It's a delightful little family film worth seeing.

Just say no to ICANN

It's time for a DNS network that isn't controlled by ICANN. OpenNIC has the right idea but the site appears to be dead. I don't want my personal information in the whois and why should people have to buy their domain names anyway. With a free open-source DNS network people could even create their own TLD zone extensions, such as http://marsha.blog/ or whatever.
ICANN has been dictating the DNS system very poorly, completely ignoring consumers.

It wouldn't be too difficult for volunteers to create another DNS network, please let the revolution begin!

Your own site similar to Digg

I've been messing with a free, open-source, content management system, named Pligg. It's similar to Digg by letting users submit articles, vote and comment on them. Sounds like they are planning on offering a hosting service so people can have their own pligg site very easily.(read this forum post)

Finding a web host that supports all the needs for a Pligg install is a bit difficult and time consuming but if the founders of Pligg start their own hosting service then this problem will be instantly solved. As long as a person can use their own domain name then I will definitely sign up.

This film isn't great but it's one of the better movies that I've seen in awhile. Has some good action scenes and the ending made me think a bit. The part where Nicolas Cage uses his gift of seeing into the future to try out different approaches on Jessica Biel is funny.

I occasionally go to "Yahoo answers" to ask and answer questions. They have politicians and other famous people on now and then that will ask a question. I know they will most likely never read my answer but it is nice to voice my opinion.

Blogexplosion

I mentioned earlier in one of my posts about my fear that Blogexplosion would become worse after selling it and sadly that is what happened.

People are constantly complaining in the forums of support tickets not being answered, not receiving their pay from Blogcharm, the list goes on and on. I can only hope now that they will come under new management or another owner before their reputation is completely destroyed. I miss the old Blogexplsoion :(

Merge RSS feeds together

With Yahoo Pipes, a person can merge several RSS feeds together into one feed and even filter out user-defined keywords. This free service is really cool but they need more modules and better instructions. I played around with it some today and created a couple RSS feeds.

It was actually kind of fun.

Upgraded to new Blogger

If you subscribe to my RSS feed and got swamped with a bunch of posts from by Blog, it's because Blogger made me upgrade to the new format today and the RSS feed was upgraded as well. Blame Blogger, not me !! LOL

I'm still using my old template though, I will have to upgrade it someday for the labels and other widgets.

I saw this animated graphic of Snoopy the other day and thought it was cute, so I decided to annoy everyone by putting it in my sidebar. :)

RSS for feedless web sites

Would you like to monitor some web pages in an RSS reader but they don't have a feed?

Lately, I've been using feedity.com, it's a service that will create a free feed for web pages that don't have one and they update the feeds several times a day. It's the easiest one that I have used so far and anyone can easily create a feed for just about any site, no signing-up required.

In order to create and enjoy an RSS feed, all a person has to do is: type or paste in the address (URL) of the page that you want to monitor, then put the address (URL) of the generated RSS feed into your favorite reader. It's that simple and easy to do.

If your looking for a free desktop RSS reader, then I recommend, "Feedreader," but download the beta one because it has a couple extra features and in my experience, works better.

I'm glad that I finally started using RSS feeds, I had no idea how useful they really were.

A free Boss key

A "boss key" is a program that allows a person to quickly hide the current program or desktop that they are using, by pressing user defined key(s).

For example, Karen is at work, using an instant messenger to talk to a friend instead of doing her job. The Boss walks up, Karen quickly taps a key or two making it immediately disappear from the desktop and taskbar before she is caught. The Boss sees her working busily on her assignment.

I quite often use a free one made by Robin Keir, named "Bosskey", and can be downloaded at http://keir.net/.

This one allows me to quickly switch back and forth between several virtual desktops so my screen and taskbar will not be so cluttered up. Ten virtual desktops can be created and each one with as many applications open as necessary.

This free program is less than ten kilobytes in size and does not need to be installed, allowing it to be easily stored on a thumb-drive.

Temporary e-mail address

So, you have a need to use a website once or twice that requires an account and Bugmenot does not help. Your in a hurry and don't want to be bothered with possible junk mail or logging in to a throw away e-mail account.

I know of a couple websites that will give a person a temporary e-mail address without having to sign up or log-in to use. Simply go to "mailinator" or "10 Minute Mail" and copy the temporary address that is given to you. Use that temporary address to create an account with the site you want to access. Return to the temporary address and read the conformation email.

I'm sure their are other sites that do this as well but these are two that I have used with success.

Screen Recorder

Have you ever wondered how people make those video tutorials for software and other programs that show everything the person is doing on their computer screen, while talking to explain what they are doing? They use software called a "screen recorder."

Typing that term into a search engine will bring up several choices to choose from, I tried several different ones and decided on "Camtasia Studio." At first, while recording, the cursor was jerky and lagged some but after going into my PC's control panel: clicking display,settings, advanced,troubleshooting then turning down the graphics hardware accelerator it works perfect.

With a "screen Recorder," a person can quickly make an .avi tutorial video that can be played with just about any media player; then e-mail it to a friend that may need some visual instructions on how to use or set-up a particular software. Of course their are many other uses such as demonstrations, podcasts, etc...

If you don't already have a "Screen Recorder" then I suggest that you get one because they are very useful.

Wow,
I saw Walt Disney's animated film named "cars" and it has everything that makes a great film. Great plot, fantastic characters, romance and an unexpected happy ending. The main character is a famous, rookie race car by the name of "Lightening" who makes it to the championship, Piston Cup race but an unforeseen incident occurs while he is being transported to the big finale. He ends up speeding and destroying the main road of a tiny forgotten town that once flourished because of a beautiful tourist attraction; but it was bypassed years ago by a new highway. He is arrested and ordered to repair the road before he will be set free. The big race is only a few days away and during this time he makes some new friends and learns that there is more to life than just himself.

I loved this film and so will you and your entire family.

Two romantic movies

I enjoyed watching a film the other day named "The Lake House," It's a story about a medical Doctor, played by Sandra Bullock, that falls in love with an architect, played by Keanu Reeves, but the architect is literally living two years in the past. The architect lived in a house on a lake that the Doctor rented two years later and they start communicating with each other through the mail box which somehow transports there letters back and forth to each other through time.

Some parts of the film are little hard to follow but if watched a second time it all makes sense. It's not very often that I enjoy watching a film as much as I did this one.

An older film that I enjoyed watching which involves two people falling in love and live in separate times is named "Somewhere in Time," starring Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour.

Automatic click for links

I'm liking the Firefox web browser more and more, especially since I learned about an extension named Greasemonkey that allows a userscript by the name of Autoclick to function. With Autoclick installed all a person needs to do is hover over a link on a web page for 1.5 seconds and it will automatically open the link without clicking! Of course, if I'm really in a hurry, I can still click the link like before.

First install the Greasemonkey extension for Firefox then install the Autoclick userscript. I believe Greasemonkey is available for IE as well but I haven't tried it.

That's all there is to it. :)

Disposable personal organizer

I downloaded a really useful program the other day named, "The Pocketmod." It's a disposable personal organizer that is created by printing out a single sheet of paper containing six pre-made templates, then folding it a certain way to become a small six page booklet. Some of the templates included in the free program are: a template for in case of an emergency (which includes contact information,your blood type and other special instructions), an appointment timesheet, planners, shopping lists, food diary, games (such as Soduko, Dots etc...) and many more useful templates. It is a free program with all the instructions included and is one of those small discoveries that brightens a person's day by making things a little easier.

Deleting an undeletable windows folder

I recently had this folder on my pc that would not delete no matter what I tried and it was driving me crazy. After searching the internet for a solution I ran across a free program named Unlocker 1.8.3 available for download from Softpedia. All I had to do was right click on the folder and select the unlocker option, a dialog box said the folder was not locked but it could still help me. Unlocker gave me some more options and I chose to delete the folder, in a few seconds more the folder was finally deleted. Yay!!

This Blog has links to a bunch of generators for all kinds of fun and neat stuff, the picture you see was created by a comic strip generator.

There's a generator for creating a "Dummies" book cover, advice, road signs, the list goes on and on. If you have some time to kill it's definitely worth taking a look. :)
