I haven't really posted much about Julep. It's a nail polish subscription. You're either into it or you're really not. For me, I'm into artistic endeavors and nail painting is something I've been trying to branch out into as a creative outlet. Nothing terribly fancy and certainly not for a side business. Just for my own amusement, I suppose.

I will talk more about how this sub box works, but first, to the box.

Avni was an add-on polish that I paid for with Jules (it's like their point system currency). I had enough to cover an additional polish and Avni was such a lovely purple, how could I resist?

That was my box for the month. It costs 25 a month. You usually get your first box free. (They tell you what the code is when you sign up.) I like this box but I will more than likely quit fairly soon. You really only NEED so much polish. I am starting to reach ridiculous amounts and I've only been a member for three months.

Wantable Intimates: August 2014

This month's Wantable Intimates didn't excite me very much. It was ok, but nothing that really spoke to me outside of the socks.

It's still one of my favorite boxes and it is very much worth what I put into it every month so I don't have any complaints.

Enough of that! On to the box!

I do enjoy the somewhat personal touch. I realize it's only a printed sticker, but it's nice.

It looks so neat and dainty i hate to ruin it by unpacking!

This is a tank/cami. It feels a lot like shapewear and it is very form-fitting. Feels nice. It will go nicely with some other new items I just got.

I assume the puckering accentuates the booty cheekal area? I have no idea. I kinda like it though.

This claims to be a crossover sleep bra. I enjoy a good soft bra and I've been fortunate to get one in each box. Very comfy.

The socks have to be my favorite item in this months box. I mean SKULLS. That's the quickest way to my heart. The panties are alright. I do LOVE the boyshort style.

I have discovered a brand new love from this round of Graze. Banana shortbread with caramel dipping sauce. HO-LY CRAAAAAP. It is forbidden fruit (bananas) but when it's just three little cookies, I'm sure it won't hurt too bad. (I'm a dialysis patient and bananas are high in potassium, which is bad. If you want to know more, ask in the comment section.)

Everything else was good too, but the shortbread wins. I could eat this every day for the rest of EVER.

I have to say I was extremely pleased with this box. Everything that came in it was delicious. The shortbread was the absolute best and now I have to find and perfect my own recipe for banana-caramel shortbread.

Horror Block for July!

So my Horror Block arrived this morning. I was excited to break into it and even more delighted when I saw what was inside. You guys HAVE to see all the loot in here this month. I screeched when I saw what the PoP! vinyl was this time around.... Sharknado. It is effing adorable. I haven't even seen the movie but I HAD seen pictures of this when it debuted on the net (I run in certain circles and usually see the stuff when it drops) and I thought I was gonna die of a cute explosion. I'm a dork.

And that wraps up this months Horror Block. It was EVEN BETTER than the first. I am totally refusing to cancel this box yet. I have already become REALLY attached to that Zumbie. The shirt and magazine alone make the box worth it for me. Everything else is just a fun extra. My favorite thing about these kinds of things is that you almost never know what you're going to get. I love surprises! I hope you guys enjoyed looking with me as much as I enjoyed opening it.

Boxycharm for July

So not only was Boxycharm EXTREMELY late this month but there have been subsequent problems with "Charms" (their referral points and such) and email communication and poorly designed website. On top of all those already aggravating circumstances, this months box just really sucked for me. I will explain as we go through the pictures. Are you ready? Let's do this!!

It is with a slightly heavy heart that I have decided to cancel Boxycharm. The deed is done. The wait for this months box, the lack of apology, the shorting me on reward points from a prior referral and the nonsense of the contents of this box all contributed to this decision.

Don't get me wrong, most of the time they do right by you. Great stuff in the boxes but I find I really only need SO MUCH makeup before it just starts to become a frivolous waste of money. So I'm done on that front.

Q Box: Summer Fun Special Edition Box

Sooooo..... Q Box. Q Box is a subscription box that gathers up a mix of items that are popular over in Korea and Japan. Every month is different but you are always guaranteed to get something pretty cute (from the looks of other un-boxings I have seen). This is my first experience with Q Box. This is actually the Special Edition Summer Fun box. I believe it costs 60.00 (well, when they still had them available... these boxes go FAST!). At this point in my blogging you may have begun to wonder where on earth does this chick get the money for all this tomfoolerly. Sure. Some of these I pay for myself. On others I get a discount. This one came from my boyfriend who decided to go a little overboard and pre-purchased it for me. It arrived yesterday.

Enough with my ramblings, let us move on to what's on the inside!

The first thing I notice is this. It is a pearl and crystal headband. You tie it up under your hair with the beautiful white ribbon. I haven't really played with it yet, hence the lack of a more descriptive picture.

Interesting "Noodle" headphones. I'll be trying these out at dialysis tomorrow.

It's cute but not 55.00 cute. Whoa.

It's a cute little makeup bag. Those styrofoam things are just space holders to keep the ribbon from being smashed out of shape. They go in the garbage. I haven't bothered removing them yet.

Now I KNEW I was getting this because it was part of the sneak-peek email. It is a bit smaller than I had anticipated. I hope I would be able to use it for dialysis, but my blanket will not fit in it.

Hm. Not sure what to think. Liner keeps a shiny look to it and it rubs off fairly easily. Peels, more like.

And the insert shows the "supposed" value of these objects. Seems a tad inflated to me, but perhaps I am just THAT out of touch with this sort of a thing. But since this was all a gift I am certainly more than happy with it. It was exciting and fun and I can't wait to play with all of it more.

Grazebox: Delivery number 4

So far it seems that Graze always shows up in my mailbox on a day I have dialysis, which is awesome because then I already have a snack of my choosing just waiting for me! This time around, they actually already gave me a repeat of something I've already tried and "loved". That was the Immunity Nuts so I won't be discussing those this time around. Travel down with me and I'll tell you about the other snacks.

So as you can see in this box we have the repeat of the Immunity Nuts (those are seriously my top three favorite nuts all in one place... cashews, pistachios, and brazil nuts.) There is a British BBQ Mix (No idea what that is really supposed to mean). Black pepper popping corn and a Key Lime Pie theme snack mix.

I don't really care for rosemary, but this was truly delicious. I loved it. Especially the smoked almonds.

There were two different sorts of raisins here... green ones and the regular looking ones were lime flavored. I took one of each thing and tossed it into my mouth. Magical. Key Lime is made from aliens ;D

I'm a member of a polish swap group on facebook and got randomly selected to win a China Glaze polish. The girl giving it away decided to throw in all these other things as a surprise. China Glaze "Don't Be A Flake", Sally Hansen Triple Shine "Sparks Fly" and the yellow one is L.A. Colors Color Craze. There is no name for it. Then a concealer brush for nail cleanup, cuticle pen, and little nail doo-dads. Fun. =D Lucky me!

Ellagee: So Long and Thanks for All the Fish!

I made a small purchase from indie polish designer, ellagee. This is a black jelly base with holo dolphin glitter and tiny glitters. After two coats it looks like dolphins in space, hence the name. For those of you NOT nerdy enough to know, So Long and Thanks for All the Fish is a Douglas Adams reference. When I happened upon her Storenvy I couldn't help myself. I had to have this polish. She also sent along a roll of smarties and wrapped it nicely in bubble wrap and a cute purple bag.

Rainbow Honey for July

This month, I ended up buying a bunch of stuff from Rainbow Honey. I ordered the large mystery bag, a polish, a top coat, a perfume, and a scented oil. Because my total went over a certain amount, I qualified to get the mini mystery bag for free as well as a free full size version of Neon Blossom.

I have learned that there is no difference between the mini and the large mystery bags aside from the size of the polishes and one or two of the other products they throw in. So save yourself some cash and order just one or the other. Come along and see what I got. Well, this is only PART of my order. The other items are still on back order. Waaaaaiting!

This is also running quite a bit behind schedule since I've had this well over a week and a half. What can I say? I'm a lazy girl sometimes. July's theme was Villians. I loved the box but they seemed to be very Joker focused this time around. I felt perhaps they could have mixed it up just a lil bit more. I am still over-all very happy with these guys. Box of Dread July 2014

Most folks who know me on a personal level know I have a strong love for horror. I had learned a couple months back that Dread Central offered a horror themed sub box every month so I decided to jump on it for the first time. I was pretty excited but I do have to admit once it arrived and I had pawed through the contents of the box I was a little disappointed.

Why? I honestly have to say that I could have gone to any horror convention (Cinema Wasteland comes to mind) in my area and been able to pick up most of these items for probably LESS than the price of the box (It was like 20 bucks). Follow me down to the photos and we'll talk about them individually. This months box features Full Moon features merch and movie (plus a free month of their streaming film catalog... was a good deal with THAT bit at least)

You had a chance to get a couple different shot glasses OR the cards. I got the cards.

They're cool.

I got a copy of Trancers. Never seen it. At least I don't think I have? Hmm...

I don't want to bad mouth the box at all. It's fine. Just not 20 bucks fine. I'd feel better if it were 15. Needless to say, I cancelled. I am sure I will try it once more in a couple of months, but for now, once is enough. Excuse me now, while I got watch some streaming horror. ;)

Ipsy July 2014

I've been running quite a bit behind on my unboxing reviews, so bear with me while I play catch up.

Here we have this months Ipsy bag. I didn't really care for the makeup bag. Just some hot pink pleather looking thing that I feel a grade school child could have made in a home ec. class. Maybe I am being too harsh, or perhaps it was just a very gifted child. I don't know. I'll probably pass it along or sell it or something.

Am I being too harsh or do you think my opinion is dead-on?

I DO like the zipper pull. Cutest part of the bag.

The first thing I saw in the bag was a tiny little sample card and inside it was the tiniest little tube of cream eyeshadow I've ever seen. It's adorable. Endearing.

It is a 5-in-1 BB shadow in Divine Wine from Bare Minerals. The description reads:

Next up we have a bronzer from PoP Beauty. I didn't even open it. Is that bad? Haha! I just really don't use bronzer. I will play with it, but yeah, it is still not opened and I've had it for at least two weeks. It's "Secret Sunshine".

Next up is a lip gloss from Pixi. The color is Unique Pink. It's my favorite item out of the bag this month!

Won't use this. Gave it to my dad who is out in the sun 500x more than I am. *shrug*

Overall, I was not impressed with this month. I'm keeping them for one last month but I think after August, I'm done with Ipsy for now.

Grazebox for Independence!

I've actually had this box for a number of days already but I usually like to take my time and try everything out before I make my post so that I can review it at the same time I'm sharing what I actually received rather than just going on blind assumption that something will taste good or bad. I guess what I'm trying to say is that I want to make sure I properly represent this box.

Makes sense, right? Well, to start off, this time around the box goes from sensible, natural brown to a very cute red, white, and blue print for the 4th of July. How festive! I loved seeing the change. So cheerful and fun!

And here is what came inside. Fruity Mango Chutney with black pepper dippers. Lightly Toasted Pistachios. Scrumptious Blueberry Swirl and Salted Fudge & Peanut Cookie.

I was the MOST excited about this flavor. As delicious as it SOUNDS it really wasn't that awesome. *sad face* The nuts tasted a little south of stale... they were on that weird soft-side where it felt they had sat out in humidity post-roasting and then sat around in a warehouse too long. The vanilla fudge was sort of hard. Tiny little hard blocks. I had also been under the assumption that the cookies would have been peanut butter cookies, but silly me, they were chocolate. That is not a complaint, just not what I would have gone by with the name. But you can see in the package and ON the package they are chocolate. I give this an "Eh."

Next thing I tried was the mango chutney. I did not care for this. Now the little cracker-stick things were great! But I am not a chutney girl. I just have never cared for it. It's like you take three questionable things and mix them together for what I would liken to spicy piss-jelly. Mango usually tastes rotten to start with. I don't mean it tastes bad, I mean in nature it just tastes like something that is 2 days away from fermentation. Vinegar is always very yes or very no for me. And then you add hot pepper flakes for that perfect what-in-the-actual-yuck factor. Never again, thanks.

This next one was delicious. How could they not be? It's pistachios. The perfect snack, in my opinion.

Last up we have the Scrumptious Blueberry Swirl which was blueberry yogurt covered raisins, raspberry flavored cranberries and black currants. I decided to save this one for breakfast instead of having it as a snack. It worked out pretty well, though I think if I ever get this one in a box in the future I will just savor the raisins on their own. They lost something inside my yogurt. The following pictures is basically just a tease of my delicious breakfast.

Small Ulta order

I got that Not Your Mother's Beach Babe shampoo and conditioner sample in my Influenster VoxBox not long ago and decided I cannot live without this product in my life. It smells delicious. Intoxicating, even. It has this rich coconut scent that just screams of a sunny day at the beach. It makes my hair soft and wavy and gives it a bit more volume than I'm used to. It's also sulfate free, which is a huge pro for me. They were on sale at Ulta for buy one get one for 50% off, so how could I say no? I couldn't. They always give you the option at checkout for them to send you some sort of samples too. Things like fragrances or skincare. I chose skincare this time around. This is what I got:

Coffee & Company

This is not a subscription but this is a company I discovered one year on vacation in Gatlinburg. Tennessee. I've been a faithful customer for many years now and I recently decided I needed some new beans to sip on.

The woman that runs the company is Jeanette Peterson. She always includes a free sample (at least one, sometimes more) and she always includes a little note to say thanks. The actual shop is tiny and charming and smells like heaven. I hope to someday go back and browse her shop and smell all the goodness and then order a fresh cup and go sit out in the sunshine and enjoy the day.

Smoky Mountain Mist

Blend of Indonesian, African and Central American coffees. Medium body with clean after taste.

The sample is LeConte View

Aromatic blend of Indonesian & African coffees with a rich smooth taste. Hints of fruity black currant notes. Medium bodied and well balanced.

And last, but not least, Highlander Grogg.

A tasty blend of Irish Crème, rum and hazelnut.

The descriptions really don't do them justice. I've had the two I bought before so I can testify to their good ness but I have not tried LeConte View yet. I'm sure it will be equally good. These beans are always nice and fresh, well roasted, and even a touch oily. Highlander Grogg is my absolute favorite. I almost always order a pound of that every time I put in an order.

They have a nice assortment of straights and flavors. They also offer decaf if you're trying to cut down your caffeine intake. Definitely check them out! Wantable Intimates for July!

It's the day after the 4th and I just had a feeling there would be a package waiting for me in the mailbox today. I was correct. I sent my mom down to get it for me while she was here and we opened it together. She had a good laugh at my expense. I will explain as we go through the box together.

The first item I'm gonna talk about are these cute panties from René Rofé. Black with white lace and a ruffle detail. So adorable! They are worth $12.00

This next item is a black soft cup lace bandeau. Really more of a sort of light cami than a bra, in my opinion. Should work good with the next item on the list. It's worth $18.00

I dunno how this is gonna work out, but I'll give it a shot. I have a feeling it may be too large.

This is a seamless convertible bandeau, also from René Rofé. It can be worn as strapped or strapless and it has removable cups. It's very soft and breathable and it's worth is listed at $12.00

The next and also last item in the box is a zebra print babydoll with lace cups with ruffled trim and a ribbon detail. It comes with a matching thong they consider a bonus item. I hate thongs. They are not comfortable BUT it a cute item altogether so I can't really gripe. My mother laughed at me when she saw the look on my face when I saw it was a thong. Honestly, I should have known it would have been, but I had hope for the best. This was the big ticket item in this months box at value of $42.00

*facepalm* This is a little embarrassing. It's cute, but thongs? Oi.

The entire value of the box this month adds up to $84.00. Not bad considering I subscribe for only 36.00 a month. The best part is that you really never know for sure what you're going to end up with from one month to the next and I'm a girl that completely enjoys a surprise. I twisted my moms arm to fill out her profile and now I'm getting her a monthly box, as well. It should be pretty fun to see what she gets compared to what I get. No, I won't be sharing her box with you all, too. Sorry!

Horror Block Debut!!!

The fine folks who bring us NerdBlock have now started a sub box specifically for those of us weirdos who love and live for horror. I was so excited to see this was starting in the month of June. Of course I had to sign up.

Every month you get a shirt and a Rue Morgue magazine, which really pays for the box. The rest of the items you get can be considered extra fun. The box is roughly 20.00 a month but then another 9.95 for shipping (from Canada to the US... they ship elsewhere too but I don't know what the cost differences are). Graze Box

Every two weeks, I get a new box from Graze. It's basically a sub box for healthy snacks. You can get your first and fifth box for free if you use my referral code. You can also score me a dollar off my next box. I like this particular sub because the box always seems to show up on dialysis days when I could use a light snack rather than fussing with making a dinner. It is much appreciated every time and it's only six bucks a box. I can't argue with that.

Here's what I got this time around!

A nice, no-nonsense package!

The goods!

So from right to left, top to bottom what we got was Apple & Cinnamon Flapjack. Basically it's like a soft-type granola with rolled oats and cinnamon and apples. Very delicious! Would be a nice breakfast with a cup of coffee. I happened to have it for dinner.

Then Nature's Immunity Nuts. It was a simple mix of roasted pistachio, cashew, and brazil nuts. High in selenium and copper which is good for your immune system. Good, of course.

Next is My Thai which is a Sweet Chili dipping sauce with baked soy bites. Now this is the ONLY one I haven't and won't try because I have been exceedingly nauseous this week and can't handle something of this caliber, so I will be passing it along to my father who lives for this sort of thing. Sorry guys. I just can't!

And last but not least, Jelly Doughnut. This one was the best thing in the whole box! It really did taste just like a raspberry jelly doughnut! It's shaved almond, strips of raspberry fruit leather, dried cranberries, raspberries, and sponge pieces (basically like tiny little vanilla cookies). It was magical.

Extremely happy with this box. Probably one of the most fun subs I have at the moment. It's like an adventure because you truly never know what will come in the next box.

Influenster VOXBOX: Surf's Up!

So I joined this site called Influenster a while back where basically you link your sosh media sites and "unlock badges" that pertain to your lifestyle. You do some surveys, write reviews or give answers about products and stuff and over time it increases your "influence" on the site. Eventually (and it didn't take me more than a month or two...) they will send you a survey via your email to see if you qualify for any of their voxboxes they have up for the season.

I happened to qualify for their Surf's Up box this time around. I have to admit I was pretty jazzed when I got the news. Basically it's free stuff to try and review for doing almost next to nothing. Next to nothing is something I am pretty good at.

There really isn't a whole lot more to it, so let me just get to what I happened to get in the box and what I "could've" gotten.

OMG... this stuff, yo....

These all smell like heaven! My head reeks of coconuts and it feels so nice. Sulfate free too, which I love because I have a sulfate allergy. I love what it does to my fine, limp hair. I actually have a little volume now! The after-sun lotion smells good enough to lick. Now if only I ever actually got any sun.

Have not tried this yet...kinda don't know if it's safe for dialysis patients. I gotta ask.

There was also a coupon for a free Jamba Juice Smoothie Kit I can redeem at whatever retailer sells it. I also COULD HAVE received a mascara from Covergirl, but I didn't. I'm glad I got the shampoo and conditioner because I have a TON of mascara and certainly didn't need any more.

So this was fun. Not bad for free, eh?

So it turns out Splendies charges on the 10th every month so instead of just the one shipment, I ended up getting two. I can't really complain about this because I think we all know by now I need the new stuff and I LOVE getting mail so this works out great for me.

Cult Cosmetics Blackbox

Recently I caught wind that Cult Cosmetics had a promotion to pick up one of their Blackboxes for a penny (not including the five bucks for shipping...), so I decided to jump on it for the cute holo-glitter "Hollywood Forever". Spring Fling is the name of the box, in case you were interested and I am pretty sure the code penny522 still works at this time.

They do have other boxes that offer other polishes and products so be certain to browse and see if it might be something you're interested in picking up. I've recently found myself on a sort of polish bender (that's a thing, right?) because my nails are growing great for the first time in years. It's a fun little project I kind of stick under the topic of art. It's color. It's paint. Nail are a medium, too, ya know?

Anyhow, here is what came in the box. For $5.01, it wasn't a bad deal. I decided not to stick with the monthly box because frankly 20 bucks a month of polish is best redirected at 20 bucks a month on horror. I have priorities, people.

Ipsy for June!!

I have been anxiously awaiting my first Ipsy bag since the beginning of May!! It felt like eons, but it finally arrived and I have to tell you guys, I am tickled silly. I love pretty much everything that came in my bag. There were only a couple mishaps and 50% of that was my own doing.

So for starters, the bag this month is by Rebecca Minkoff. It's a sort of abstract tropical print. The material is very nice quality. It doesn't stink like a lot of people have complained about past Ipsy bags (like that chemically processed smell), It's sort of a navy base with blues, greens, and oranges in the shapes of pineapple's and flowers. Sounds gaudy, but it's actually quite cute. Unfortunately I ACCIDENTALLY snipped the label when I was cutting open the mailer envelope so I am a bit bummed about that.

Can you see where I murdered the tag? Of course you can. :(

Before I even open the bag, I notice I have a pack of Truth To Go wipes, which are "gentle, moisturizing, age defying cleansing wipes". I tried one out this morning and I quite like the way they smell. Kind of fruity. Makes sense because there are a lot of fruity ingredients in it. I will definitely buy more of them in the future.

Inside the bag, I have a Be A Bombshell mascara. Black. It smells awful. Almost like old garlic. Phew. I don't know what to think about this and I have heard an awful lot of mixed reviews on the brand. I am not sure I'm brave enough to try it? The packaging is cute. Sort of a thick, matte-black metal tube. Pleasingly round in the right places.

I also got a liquid liner in black by Jessie's Girl. Normally I would be thrilled but the damned thing skooged all over me when I took the cap off it have a look at it. I am STILL trying to scrub eyeliner from under my nail bed. Ugh. I have cleaned it up and it now seems to be ok and workable though. All I can imagine is that the heat during shipment got to it.

There is a Beach Spray by Marc Anthony. Dream Waves. It smells great but I haven't used it yet so I don't really have a valid opinion on it. I will need to make a review post where I review ALL THE THINGS I've used from prior boxes so you folks have a good idea of what is good and what isn't.

Last and most certainly NOT least I got a Nyx Buttergloss in Eclair. It's so soft and pink and it smells like vanilla cupcakes. I would be afraid to wear it for anyone to kiss me out of fear they would eat my face. Seriously, it's a great product and adorable. I just love anything from Nyx. They're one of my favorite cosmetic brands today.

All in all, this bag was pretty great! For 10 bucks a month you really can't argue with it at all. I highly recommend it.

Loot Crate for June 2014

This months theme is "TRANSFORM" so I am pretty sure we can all figure out what's in the box. ;) As of today, there is still ONE DAY LEFT to get in on this particular Loot Crate

For the second month in a row, we're lucky enough to get a shirt! Unfortunately it was only available in boy style, but that's not terrible. The shirt is fun.

That was it for Loot Crate this month. Overall, it was pretty fun. I have yet to open and play with the Hexbug. I may or may not. I may just sell it. I haven't decided just yet. I hope for more shirts in the future. The shirt is really the most exciting part of this box for me.
