Hey! Sorry I have been gone for awhile, but I have an announcement. I have transferred to the dark side! =) I have started a new blog on Tumblr. Maintenance and updating is much easier on there. Caruso Steam Roller Test No Heat

I have been itching to try out my Caruso Steam Rollers, but I am still sticking to my no heat challenge. I have read everywhere that all naturals who use these rollers blow dry or lightly straighten their hair for the best results. I decided to use the banding method to stretch my hair out.

Colorful huh??? ^.^ I used long head bands to start with and added hair ties on the ends. I have eight banded sections in my hair. I slept over night with the bands in my hair. Here are the results.

I loved the results. The next step I took was using my round brush to get the best blow out look. I added a little Giovanni "Smooth as Silk" to moisture the hair, and to not cause any unnecessary breakage.

It actually turned out decent. One point for Turquoise! I went section by section and added the steam rollers. It took about a hour and a half to finish the whole process. My hair did not come out like it would have if I would have added heat, but it was cute.

My eyes look creepy in both pictures. =) The curls had much less frizz than I thought. I finger combed the curls, and these were the results.

I put a head band on it. I really loved how it turned out. Next, time I use the rollers it will be on blow dried or straightened hair.

Braid After Math and Trimming

Last weekend I took my braids down after wearing them for two weeks. This time keeping the braids in for two weeks was not too hard. I usually get bored with protective styles fairly quick. It took me about five to six hours to take them all out. My husband tried to help, but only finished taking down half of a braid. =) I trimmed my ends while the braids were still in. I feel like that is the only way I can get every little spilt. This is the second time since I BC'ed that I trimmed, because I had a straightening problem when I first cut my hair. I did not cut too much off. Both trims average half of an inch. I still feel I can make full APL by December. Anywoo, this was the amount of shed hair after two weeks with the braids.

This is not too bad for me. Actually this is a great amount for me. My hair is known to shed more than necessary. This shows me that my current routine is pretty AWESOME! After taking down the braids, I felt like I needed to do a protein and deep treatment. I have alter my protein treatments since the last time I posted about them. I only do them once a month now, and I started buying a protein pack. These are the products I used in my protein mix.

I love this stuff! I brought this pack from Target. It cost a little over a dollar.

This is what the mixture looked like after it was finished. After I shampooed my hair, I applied it in four sections then put a shower cap on my hair. I left it in for roughly forty-five minutes to a hour.

I rinsed the protein treatment out with luke warm water, and immediately followed up with a deep treatment. My deep treatment contained VO5 "Moisture Silks", Giovanni "Smooth as Silk", and my Africa's Best oil.

It looked like yogurt, and smell like strawberries. Yummy! ^.^

I rinsed it out after a hour and a half, and my hair felt so soft. Score! My hair grew quite a bit. Here is a picture of it soaking wet.

Nice huh??? I feel so proud of myself for retaining all of this length.

You all might already know Miss Andrea Lewis, but if you do not here is some background information. Andrea is an awesome actress, and singer. No, I am not just saying that. ^.^ She played on the hit series "Degrassi" , and a Disney movie called "Cadet Kelly". Currently, she has an very popular blog, and YouTube channel with her best friend Shannon called "Those girls are wild". Not wild like Paris Hilton, and Kat Stacks though. Thank the lord! Their definition of wild is humorous, out spoken, and good old fashion fun. To add to that list is goal oriented. Shannon has a book out by the name of "Laid" about young people's experiences with sex, and Andrea just came out with a free album. Talk about inspirational! The name of her album is 54321, and it premiered today on their blog. I can honestly say I love every second of it. Just by listening to it I can tell she put a lot of time and effort in to it. My favorite song from the album is "Talk to me". It is a beautiful ballad with a 1950's style to it. I am placing the link to their blog, YouTube channel, and the album down below for you all to check out. Let me know your opinions on all three.

The Special K Challenge

I started what is called the "Special K Challenge" on Monday. Basically what you do is replace two meals a day for two weeks with Special K cereal, protein shake, or protein meal bar. It sounds like a fad diet huh??? It is not at all a fad diet. It is a easy way to jump start your fitness, or healthy eating routine. I am in no way starving myself. I am actually eating more often than usual. I have cereal for breakfast with an apple, cereal for lunch with an apple, and my regular dinner. I eat two healthy snacks in between meals also. A plus is that if you get hungry you can eat as many servings of fruits and veggies as you want! The advertisement claims that you can drop a jean size in these two weeks. No, this cereal is not a magic weight loss supplement. The reason you lose weight is because you are taking in fewer calories, and the calories you are taking in for the most part are good for you. I follow this eating plan, and also work out. I do not own a scale, but I will be trying on a pair of jeans that are very form fitting to see if it worked. They recommend that you only follow the eating plan for two weeks. After my two weeks are up I will still eat Special K for breakfast, or a more healthier cereal. I feel confident that I will fulfill my weight loss goal of ten to twenty pounds for 2010. If you want to start the challenge, and have any questions leave a comment. =) Stay happy and healthy!

Protective Style Redo

I am currently rocking individuals braids again. I just could not resist! They are easy, cute, and versatile. My hair about a inch to two inches longer than the last time I wore these braids. The extra inch or inches added a hour to my styling time. I was not complaining. ^.^ After seven hours, and countless YouTube videos I finished my hair. Individual braids are my favorite protective style, because I do not have to do to much to my hair for two weeks, and they are great at holding moisture. I have been rocking them for over a week now, and Saturday will complete my two weeks. Also, it is much easier to trim my ends this way. It will be a very light, but needed trim. For most of last week I have been wearing them curly. I found that styling them in bantu knots rather than using rollers is much quicker. Here are the results of the bantu knots.

I styled in five bantu knots over night. Two in the front, and three in the back. This is the result after taking them down.

They produce very pretty curls.

I styled them like this for a few days, then wore a curly ponytail for the rest. I pinned on side up using a bobby pin. I thought I was too cute! =)

This pass weekend my husband and I did some much desired shopping. I am going to let the pictures speak for themselves with a small bit of commentary from yours truly. ^.^ *As you know my camera sucks! Therefore I will be pulling pictures off the internet of the items that I purchased. *

*Wet Seal*

Wet Seal is having a $10.00 sale on all of their heels. I purchased these heels in a six, but I recommend that if you purchase these heels that you go up at least a half of a size because of the way the shoe curves. These are a "Bow Strap Faux Suede Heel" with a 5.25 in heel, and a 1.25 in platform. When I wear these I feel so tall! =)

Wet Seal always has the 5 tees and/or tanks for $20.00 deal. I purchased 4 "V Neck" tees, and 1 "Crew Neck Boy" tee.

These are called "Caruso Professional Molecular Steam Rollers". I purcashed the steamer, and 30 pack of rollers with extended warranty for $48.00. I will do a post on these when I use them. I am exited to see how they work.

*Wal-Mart*

I have been dying to try Giovanni's "Smooth as Silk" conditioner for months. When I was looking around the beauty section in Wal-Mart I saw these in the clearance section. I walked out of the store with two bottles for about $15.00.

*Macy's*

For months now I have been putting off buying new mascara. They can be very pricy. I had purchased some cheapy E.L.F. mascara, and it was HORRIBLE! I finally broke down, and went to Macy's. I had tried Clinique's mascara before during my prom season, and it was pretty good. I purchased the "high impact" mascara for volume. It is ahh-maze-ing! I only need one coat, and it does not clump. It set me back about $14.98, but it was well worth it.

Every woman should have a little black dress. Length varies. =) I am not proud to say this, but I did gain a little weight last year in college. My clothes were not fitting like they use to, and I was highly upset with myself. On my college campus there was a night dedicated to appreciating women that my friends and I wanted to attend. It was a semi-formal event, and I had a few dresses in my closet. Some of which are pretty form fitting. =) After I tried on a few, and did not like the outcome I just grabbed a black dress that I had been having for about a year or so. The dress fit, and looked just as good as when I tried it on in the dressing room at the store. Instantly fab! I paired it with black and silver heels, and a bun. The great thing about black dresses are that they can be matched with almost any heel. Also, if the length and cut is sexy yet chic it can be wore for many different occasions. If you do not have a little black dress I highly recommend that you go out and buy one.

Taking care of your hair with 5 products or less.

Styling natural hair does not have to be rocket science. Believe me I learned this four months after I cut my relaxed ends off. When you are newly natural you want to try every hair product on the market. It is okay to try different products, but it can be expensive and you need a solid group of products that will always make your hair look great. These are the five products that I think every natural needs to keep their hair up. These are the only products that are used in my solid regimen.

1. *Shampoo* Whether it is an organic, or generic shampoo make sure it works for you. I use a diluted version of TreSemme "Flawless Curls" shampoo. All I do take a bottle fill it up half way with shampoo, and the other half with water. Some naturals do 3/4 water, and 1/4 shampoo. Like I said before do what works for you.

2. *Conditioner* Everyone needs a great conditioner that can restore that moisture that is lost in the shampoo process. The best conditioner for my hair is TreSemme "Flawless Curls". I only use this when I shampoo, and in my leave in.

3. *Co-Wash Conditioner* I use V05 to conditioner wash my hair. I alternate between their moisturizing conditioner, and clarifying conditioner. I recommend the clarifying conditioner to naturals who do feel like they can clean their hair with a co-wash.

4. *Leave-in* A few post back I gave a complete break down of how I make my leave-in. All that is in it is conditioner, water, and oil. All you need is one good leave in, and I promise you will be happy.

5. *Oil* The oils is optional. Some naturals swear by it, and some hate it. I use oil to seal moisture in my hair, and occasionally oil my scalp. I only use one oil now, and it is Africa's Best Ultimate Herbal Oil with Ginseng. I love the combination of oils, and it works for me. Pick an oil that works for you, and make it your
staple oil.

This is how I take care of my hair with five products or less. If I use anything else it is not something that is in my solid regimen. I hope this help. Remember ladies less is more.

Review on Kiss "Everlasting French"

I recently purchased these nails from the grocery store. ^.^ I was shopping with my husband, and I was drawn in by the hair section. After picking up all my hair essentials I spotted these glue-on nails. Kiss nails can be wore for a week at a time. They do not chip, nor do they break easy. I wore them for the full week, and could not stop staring at my nails.I was shocked that they looked so professional. I know this sounds generic, but it looked like I went to the salon and got acrylics nails put on. The only con about these nails are that if you do not know how to apply them correctly you will get air bubbles. Yep! That is it. The pros are they look more expensive than they are as I said before. They come in different sizes to fit your nails. I have small nails, and these petites fit perfectly. The application process only took me eight to ten minutes to complete. My number one pro is that the nails were only $6.00! When I go to the salon I pay at least $20.00 for a full set of acrylic nails. After the week is up just rub some Acetone on them, and they come right off. My nails were not damaged or weak. I also did not have that ugly line on my nails like when I get them done at the salon. When you buy two boxes you will have enough to do another set with the extra nails. I will be purchasing these again, and trying out their other nail designs also. I highly recommend these nails.

Fact: Nails always look better when your holding something. =)

I have decided to start doing a series of post about what every woman should have. There are some really basic regimens or items that many woman have in common. Whether it is a fitness routine or fashion, there is a common denominator. The first in this series is, "Every woman should have a beauty regimen". By beauty regimen I mean how you take care of your money maker! =) If people do not see anything else they will see your face, so a beauty regimen is almost like a requirement. Your regimen does not have to be expensive nor does it have to be complicated. Some products that should be in a good regimen are cleanser, moisturizer, exfoliate, and mask. Here are the products that I use.

Everyone needs a good cleanser to wash away all the dirt, and pollutants that they come in contact with in day to day life.

A good moisturizer will replenish the moisture that is lost from cleansing your face. Think of it like a conditioner for the face.

Ahhh! Now to the good stuff! =) A exfoliate is used to get rid of old dead skin. This is good during the winter months, because skin tends to peel more from the dry air.

Masks are used to cleanse deep impurities, and help with different skin problems. I use two different mask, because they have two different effects on my face. This one is to help with acne, get rid of blackheads, and shrink enlarged pores. It is a mint masque so it tingles a bit, but I like that! It makes me feel like it is doing something. I use this mask once a week.

I love this mask! I purchased it at Lush. Lush is a company that makes fresh handmade cosmetics. The name of this mask is "Cosmetic Warrior". The ingredients are all natural! It does not smell as good as all of their other masks, but it works wonders. The mask helps with acne prone, and sensitive skin. It basically zaps pimps away. It is $5.95 for enough to do six masks.There is also a picture of the person who made the product, and on what date. I use this two times a week.

Fall/Winter Protective Style

In the fall and winter months your hair needs extra protection from the elements. The cold air causes hair to be more dry than in the warmer months. All that this means is that everyone needs to upgrade their hair regimen. I have purchased a wig for the upcoming months. This wig will keep my hair fully protected from the fall and winter dryness. I purchased my wig from a local beauty store. I am not completely sure how much it cost, because I also purchases a wig head. Together the price was $32.50 with taxes. Good stuff huh? =)

I think it is super cute. I braided my hair in eight braids, then put a wig cap over them so my wig would not look lumpy. I will be rocking this along with twist during the fall and winter. ^.^

How To: Leave-In Conditioner

This post is basically going to show you how I make my leave-in conditioner. Let me start by saying I am in no way a mixologist. =) Any "How To" post that I will do will be fairly simple. Now with that being said here is my recipe.

You will need one of your favorite conditioners. One of my favorites is Tresemme "Flawless Curls". I add the rest of my Neutrogena Triple Moisture conditioner, because I had nothing else to do with it. I did not like the results, but I will save the ranting for another post. My advice is to use a conditioner that has a lot of slip, or is light weight.

You will also need some of your favorite oil. I used the rest of this Softee oil that I got from the Dollar General. It was pretty good stuff, but like I said before I will save my ranting for another post.

Start with a empty spray bottle. I purchased this on from the Dollar General.

Fill it half way up with the conditioner. I have a little more than half due to the fact that I used the rest of the other conditioner.

Fill the other half up with water, and add a couple of drop of oil. Do not fill it all the way up to the top, because you have to shake it up.

Bam!!! ^.^ That is all! I have been using this for two months, and it is one of my few staple products. I love it. This bottle should last me two weeks. I apply this after I shampoo, co-wash, and to refresh/ hydrate my curls. If you try this recipe let me know how it works out for you.

New Protective Style : No More Numbering

Looking back at my blog I think it is unnecessary for me to number my protective styles. From now on I will just be updating my styles without the numbers. This is my newest protective style.

I am not the best braider, so the piece in the middle is twisted. My bun is flat, because I just took my bonnet off and took pictures. =) I have been wearing this for five days today. It is still looking pretty good! I used Hawaiian Silky 14-in-1 leave in to moisturize my hair before I braided it.

My night time routine to keep this hairstyle looking fresh is fairly simple. I alternate between my leave in conditioner, and Tresemme mousse. This just meaning one day I will moisturize with my leave in conditioner, and the next I will just apply the mousse. When I go to sleep I put on a satin scarf, and bonnet. I really love this style, because I do not have to manipulate my hair at all. =)

Being you, Loving you

I started thinking and I wanted to dedicate a post to self-esteem. It might seem like I am rambling a bit, but this is sort of a "freestyle" blog post. I did not sit down and plan this one out. I know everyone has one thing that they might dislike about themselves, and that is fine. No one is perfect! I am here to talk about just not feeling like your beautiful, and downing yourself. I had a phase in my life when my self-esteem was non-existent. I would find every little thing wrong with myself, and obsess over it. Looking at magazines, and models I would wonder why I was not a size one or why I was not that tall. Things that I find ridiculous now. Everyone is their own person. No one needs a magazine to tell them they are beautiful. I had to figure out the my size seven looked good on me, and I did not need to be six feet tall. I am beautiful the way I am. I have big pretty eyes, and a great fashion sense. That phase that I was in just stopped me from seeing my true potential. Anyone who is reading this and thinks about something that is not exactly perfect on them needs to stop, and think about something they find beautiful about themselves. Plus, who wrote the definition of perfect? What makes a girl with hair down to her waist gorgeous? I have had both short and long hair, and have look great both ways. I once read a quote, " A real girl is not perfect, and a perfect girl is not real." Our imperfections make us who we are. Who wants to be a carbon copy? I know I don't! Love who you are, and love who you aren't. Long hair, short hair, black, white, indian, pale, tan, curly hair, straight hair. Just love yourself! Life is so much more enjoyable that way. Trust Me. =)

Product Review: Miss Jessie's Curly Pudding

Con- Soaking Wet Hair

Miss Jessie's Curly Pudding is a must have in my hair collection. I brought the sixteen ounce jar, because that was the only size they had at my local Target. I am glad I did though! The pudding is now a permanent staple in my regimen. Before I used the product I watched tons of YouTube videos on how to apply the pudding so I can receive the maximum results. When applying the product I really hate that my hair has to be soaking wet. My hair dries fairly quick without any product in it. I recently found out that your hair has to be soaking wet for most curl defining products, because they do not make your hair any curlier they just enhance the curl you already have. Curly hair is the most defined when soaking wet so applying the Curly Pudding on top of that freezes the curl in place. I love the smell! It smells like bubble gum. Not the bubble gum flavored medicine, but the actual candy. =) The main thing that I love about this product is that it cuts out all frizz. I have the frizzes hair at the crown of my head, and after applying the product I can see little to no frizz. The additional "cherry on top" is that my Wash and Gos only take one hour to dry. When I only used conditioner it could take up to four hours to completely dry. All I have to say at this moment and time is that this is "the best darn curl creme period."

This day and age a day of shopping can put you in years of debt. We all want the Louis Vuittons, Pradas, and Fendi, but price is a big factor. Some women will spend $1,000.00 that they do not have to fulfill these wants. That is were thrifting comes into play. I love all things fashionable and glamorous. Will I go into debt for them? No! I am a frequent shopper not a crazed one. I am quite reasonable when it comes to prices. Also, if it looks good I will wear it. When I say thifting I do not mean going to a thift store, and searching for hours to come out with one good thing. I simply mean shopping reasonably. I shop at Plato's Closet from time to time. I am addicted to this store. They sell gently used designer, and cute clothing for inexpensive prices. These are some items that I have purchased from Plato's Closet.

This shirt was $5.00. I love all the colors. ^.^

This shirt is very classy. I can wear it to work, dinner, or just out with the girls. I adore any piece of clothing that can be wore at any time. This shirt was $6.00.

Very pretty right?? A cute dress that reminds me of a vacation is defiantly a keeper! It ties at the waist. I could not believe it was only $8.00.

I was in need of some classic black pumps. I found these for $10.00.

I fall in love with any animal print, so of course I had to buy this vest. It was priced at $7.00.

Fab right? As soon as I saw this scarf I had to have it. It cost $6.00.

Accessorize: Hair Flowers

The big accessory for Spring and Summer is the hair flower. I know it is a little late, but there is still time to rock it. Or you can wait until spring to bring it out. Even though they are just hair accessories they can get pretty expensive. One hair flower can cost up to $12.00. I have a simple motto, "If you can make it don't buy it". Yes, I make my own hair flowers. All you need is a plastic flower, and a bobby pin. I buy my plastic flowers from the Dollar Tree. They can be purchased at the Dollar Tree, Dollar Store, and/or the Family Dollar. The flowers come in a bouquet for a dollar. Always try to look for a bouquet with different colors in it. The more colors the more hair flowers. The plastic flowers come on a stem that you can easily slip them off of. After that just stick a bobby pin in the hole were the stem was. Two easy steps, and that is it. Five hair flowers for five dollars. Even six or seven hair flowers for five dollars. Here are a couple of pictures of me rocking one of my favorite hair flowers.

Product Review: IC Fantasia Gel with Olive Oil

Rating- 4.5 / 5.0

Pros- Defines curl, lay hair down, does not make hair hard, gives lots of shine, does not flake.

Cons- Smell, Greasy

This is the best gel that I have used since I have been natural. It does not make your hair feel hard, and most importantly it does not create flakes. This meaning that you can apply the gel daily, and not have to worry that when it dries it will make you look like you have a case of extreme dandruff. It can be used to make a curly moisturizer or pudding, but beware that it can be a bit greasy. You will feel it on your hands after applying it yet your hair will not feel greasy at all. Magic! =) Also, I cannot describe the smell but it is not pleasant. I would have not even noticed the smell if I did not smell my hair products. The cons of this product are not too serious yet the pros are. I would definitely recommend this product to anyone. It will be added to my list of "Lifetime hair products".

Protective Style #3 : Banded Pony/ Tomb Raider Pony

My current protective style is aBanded ponytail aka the Tomb Raider ponytail. (The ponytail gives you a sexy Laura Croft look.) As always I found this hairstyle on YouTube. It is a simple hairstyle that anyone with medium length hair can do. Most people band their hair to stretch their natural hair. My reason for doing this originally was to prepare my hair for another hairstyle. I am going to do a bun out, but I wanted to do it on stretched hair. Once I did the pony today I loved it, and have decided to wear it for three or four days then do a bun out for the rest of the week. I started by co-washing my hair, then I sprayed some of my homemade leave-in spray moisturizer all over. (I will do a post on how I make my leave-in spray.) Next, I just put my hair in a low ponytail, and started to band it with my ouch less hair ties. I applied some gel on my edges to slick them down. Here is how it came out.

I tucked the ends of my hair into the last hair tie to protect them. I believe that this could be a cute transitioning style, or even people with relaxed hair can do this to create some nice waves in their hair with out a curling iron. Below is the video that shows you how to achieve this look.

Easy Chic : Nail Polish

A lot of women do not take proper care of their nails. I am not sure why though. Having a manicure is like having your hair done. I am not saying go to the nail salon and request long acrylic nails with a over the top paint job. I just feel like every woman should keep her nails up. I get my nails done at the salon occasionally, but I do them at home when needed. Shorter natural nails are in style. Every celebrity, model, and fashion icon follow this style. French manicures are cute, but a blast of color is always fun. When I do my nails at home I love pastel colors, and any bright red. Bright red is just a easy chic go to color. At the moment I am rocking Wet n Wild Wild Shine in "Red Red" that I got from my local Walgreens. Not a creative name, but that is exactly what it is. A very shiny red!

They kind of look like press on nails, because I can never fully get the sides of the nail coated on my right hand. ^.^

To do a fast manicure on your nails at home you will need:

*Nail file

*Nail buffer

*Nail smoother

*Nail polish and remover

* A Q-tip/ ear swab

*Top coat/ Clear polish (I did not use a top coat on this manicure.)

Step 1: File nails, and use buffer to shape them. You can round them or make them square. I personally like the way squared nails look.

Step 2: Use the nail smoother to create a nice smooth base for your polish.

Step 3: Polish nails and let them dry.

Step 4: Apply Top coat or Clear coat. The Top coat protects the nails from harm therefore creating a long lasting manicure. Also, it makes them shiny. (The Wet n Wild polish is very shiny on its own.)

Step 5: If you messed up a little on your nails dip a Q-tip in the polish remover, and wipe off any unwanted polish.

This method is very fast, and easy. Only five easy steps to a cute manicure. It is very inexpensive also. The nail polish was $1.00, and the nail files totalled to $1.50. Have fun and be creative!
