Sorry it took a while to get the audio side of things ready. Just didn't have the time...

We've reached episode 50!! This is a landmark for us and we are happy to bring this to you. To celebrate we had out first ever ustream.tv live broadcast. If you missed it, don't worry we recorded it and will have a couple links to it in the notes.

No Show this Week

Hopefully by next week, everything will be set up and ready. We still haven't figured out how to use the mixer with the computer as of yet.

Hey Everyone,

Wow, what a turnout on this week's Skypecast! We had over 100 people jumping in and out at some point, and ended up having a complete side conversation as our main show topic!

This week, we revisit etiquette and opera singers. We discuss why we believe in God and the Catholic homestead!

Special thanks to all of our participants this week. We learned a lot from this show and will be making a few changes to the way we run our Skypecasts in the future. We didn't really want a 1 on 1 format but, it turned out good.

Dead Recording

Hey Everyone,

Well, things did not go as planned for last night's recording. First of all, Skypecasts were down, making it impossible for us to get our first one off the ground. Then, Allie and other regular participants didn't show up, except for Bob, who got in at the end of the recording.

But, that isn't the worst of it. Today I went to edit the show, and the file wouldn't transfer from the minidisc recorder to my computer. I tried at least 2 or 3 times, if not 4, with no success. So the recording was a complete failure.

I just hope and pray there is nothing wrong with the Minidisc recorder. If there is, Tanya and I are pretty much dead in the water. I mean, I could use my big machine to record directly with Audacity, the only problem being that it has 5 or 6 fans and is REALLY loud.

We will be recording a show next week, as the week after is going to be Labor Day weekend. I will schedule another Skypecast fro 8-10PM on next Sunday evening and we'll see what comes of it.

Sorry, we did produce a show, but have no way of putting it out there for you.

We're Saved!

Hello Again,

After many hours of work, I finally got the computer back into a useable state late last night. It took no shorter than 3 hours of work to get that far.

Windows had to be fully reinstalled, but, that couldn't be done until the DVD RW was replaced. The regular DVD Rom in the computer STILL didn't work, but, thank God for an old 40x CD-ROM from a computer lying in Tanya's basement here. If it hadn't been for that, the computer would still be dead.

After re-installing Windows, there was the simple matter of sorting through the hundreds of CD's I have and finding the drivers for my hardware. Now, that wasn't really as bad as I make it out to be, simply because I used my laptop to find and download the ones I couldn't find, putting them on my portable hard drive and moving them over to the other computer.

So then the computer reboots, so it can recognize the hardware. Low and behold, I get a special message from Microsoft. "We have detected that you have made significant changes to your hardware, please call us to re-activate Windows". "Oh boy", I thought. Luckily it was all automated and it only took about 6 minutes to get through. I didn't know that replacing the hard drive was a "significant change". Not to mention the nearly 96 Windows Updates needed to patch my system, and a BIOS upgrade.

Anyway, so that is everything I have gone through. I still don't have iTunes downloaded yet and am unsure if it will erase everything off of my iPod. Then, all of my video editing software still needs to be replaced, but, the copies I had originally bought, were unknowingly illegal so, I won't be putting them back on the computer. JOY!

I will edit as much of the show as I can today. I hope that I can get it done by this afternoon but, it may be longer. I really am sorry about all this and apologize, but, as you can see, it took a lot of time to get this thing working again.

Further Delay

Hey All,

My computer is on only 1 leg at this point in time. I am working to restore it but am having a lot of difficulty. This may require a full Windows restore and my DVD Burner seems to be malfunctioning and not reading my Windows XP CD. I hope that the other DVD Rom, which didn't work so it has been unplugged, can save me here. If not, I am out of luck,

Also, what was left of my RAID setup, a lone SATA hard drive, has now died as well.

I am currently in the process of backing up all the files that need to be saved. Then I will probably spend a good part of the evening attempting to restore the thing. So, this week's show may be delayed for another day or two.

It is bad enough having to edit a super long episode, it is another to have to re-build your computer to do it!

The Plague

Hey All,

Chris is feeling sick this weekend. However, he wants to try and persevere and still record the podcast tomorrow evening. It will all depend on if his voice holds out...

We regret to inform you that a Ustream will not be possible for this week's show due to technical issues. Once we get the webcam (Tuesday or Wednesday) we'll be able to for future shows.

Basically, we need the mic on the laptop for skype as the laptop does not have a line-in jack. We considered running the signal into the mic-in but, after doing research found this would be a very bad idea. If anyone had any ideas on how to get a line in signal into the laptop without a line-in plug on it, please let us know.

Lastly, we are still waiting on some people's skype names. Again, if you want to join us this week, we need to have your name so we can add you to our list, otherwise you won't be able to be included. Good News, Bad News

Hey All,

The good news is, we just ordered the webcam for our ustream and got a good deal too. The bad news is, it will take 5-7 days to get here.

So here's the deal. We will TRY to run ustream and skype on the same laptop and test the sound quality before recording. If it seems OK we will go with it for this one show, however, if it doesn't work well or it affects the audio recording in a negative way, we're not going to do it.

So there is a possibility the ustream feed won't be up for this episode. We'll see what happens.

We just set up our new ustream account and will be transmitting live when we record our podcasts. In addition to this, we'll see if some of the people we will record with via skype also have ustream and add their feeds to the site as well, thus creating the Life on Fire Ustream Network.

Technical Difficulties

Last night, Tanya and I recorded an episode of the podcast with our friend Allie at her house. We used a different recording setup which used my not-so-good laptop as the recording media. Unfortunately, this ended up resulting in a recording we could not use. There were a lot of pops and hisses that just couldn't be removed.

We are going to try and get together with Allie again tonight in our regular studio to re-record.

Also, some minor website changes:

I added some links to The Levelator and Audacity in the left-hand column, under the heading "Podcast Editing" so that if you want to start podcasting, you know what kind of software we use.

Also, I changed Allie's e-mail from being Catholic Life on Campus to just E-mail Allie.

I am also going to try and simplify some other things as well.

So we hope that we'll have an episode for you this evening and we are really sorry for this inconvenience. We'll have a show soon though.

Welcome,

Good to see everyone again. Sorry for the delay in the release of this episode. I just couldn't get it edited properly last night and Tanya and I figured it would be better to wait and edit the show properly rather than release a thrown-together episode.

This week we discuss a 13 year old Italian girl who was forced to have an abortion by her parents using the country's court system. We also discuss several articles in our local newspaper.

We talk about the new HPV vaccine and why it shouldn't be mandatory and NJ becoming the 3rd state to recognize "homosexual marriage". We also discuss our own week, snow, sledding and cookies.

Alive

Hey Everyone,

Chris here. Just writing to let everyone know that Tanya and I are still alive and well, and to apologize for the lengthy abscence. This has partially been due to laziness on my part and for the way that Tanya and I's lives have been going over the past month or so.

It is hard to do the work of the Lord when you are not allowing him into your heart, as I was. While I am a lazy person, I think that my unwillingness to be fully open to our Lord has been a big part, if not the whole of the problem.

That, and it does take a lot of work to produce the show. Because we have no real studio, and the computer is too loud to record into, we cannot use a cast-blaster style program to add our music and effects. This means at least an hour of post-production for every show. Again, not that this was the key issue, as if I am unwilling to listen to the Lord and welcome him into my heart, of course the work won't seem worthwhile.

If it is God's will for this to continue, it will. I cannot say with any knowledge whether or not it is his will for us. I have a lot of personal, spiritual growth to go through before I can truly begin to understand my relationship with Him and with my wife, whom he has given to me.

So, please hold on for us. We will make some sort of an announcement if the Lord truly wishes this to end. However, if the Lord is compelling us to continue, and this is my prayer, we shall put up a new episode as soon as the Lord inspires us to do so.

We appreciate your prayers and you referring us to other listeners out there. It has been a true blessing to have this apostolate in our lives, despite the neglected appearance of it as of late.

May the Lord bless you and keep you in this Advent season as we await the coming of our Lord, Jesus Christ. Your continued prayers and support are well appreciated and again, we thank you.

Another Delay

We're still alive....

We've just been making a lot of friends in the parish down here and are getting very involved with the Church. This is a good thing and a bad thing.

It's great because we are getting to do what we love most, serve the Lord. The downside is, it has been hard to find time to produce a podcast.

We will do our best to get one out by Friday.

Hey Everyone,

Well, this show started off in pretty much the same way it always does... then our friend Michael called. After that the show became really fun and we all learned a lot from it.

The conversation we got, just from talking to our friend at random, turned out to be one of the best experiences we have ever had doing this podcast.

OH, and before anyone asks, we captured the audio for this simply by putting Chris' cell on speaker phone mode and holding the microphone up to it. Not too shabby eh?

Tanya and I were actually planning on doing 2 shows yesterday but, the plans kins of fell through due to some stupidity on my part. Maybe we will talk about that soon.

LOF#19 - Allie's European adventure, Chris and Tanya's love lists and we're taking a break!

Hey Everyone,

It may seem insane but, Chris stayed up until 2:15AM Monday morning just so that this podcast would get out to you. Unfortunatley there was a technical glitch the first time he editited it and Audacity terminated before he could save what he was doing. So Chris had to re-edit the show ALL OVER AGAIN and then upload the show.

Ok, now on with the actual show notes:

This week, Allie speaks of her travels in Europe, including stories about some of the religious aspects of her journey. Tanya and Chris follow the advice of listener Bob and come up with several lists about one another. Perhaps they should have made them ahead of time... They also discuss the improvements being made on their future home and Tanya's wedding shower.

This will be the last podcast before Chris and Tanya's wedding. They have a TON of stuff to do before then and not much time to do it in so, producing a podcast would be too difficult. However, they will do their best to produce a new episode right after their wedding and will greatly appreciate your prayers and any feedback during this time.
