Sleep Standing up with a Vertical Bed?

I'm just not sure why this makes any sense to anybody. But here it is. A vertical bed that allows you to sleep while standing. Maybe it is just me, but I've got no problem sleeping while standing (or in any position for that matter) without a contraption like this. Besides it looks exceedingly uncomfortable.

Robbie Limon Band Comes To Wayside Theatre

Get ready for some fun and some great music. The Robbie Limon Band, along with the Rhonda Sager Trio, and some of Wayside Theatre's own artists are going to be performing a benefit concert at Wayside Theatre on Sunday, November 15 at 7pm. The bar opens at 6pm for some pre-show refreshment and the evening promises to be a great night of music and mirth.

We're excited that Robbie, (who has appeared as Buddy Holly, Hank Williams, and in Southern Crossroads,) and The Rhonda Sager Trio have decided to come down and share their musical gifts with us. When some of the Southern Crossroads cast takes the stage, it should also be a treat for our audience as well.

Virginia Blues

So, Virginia went back into the red column last night as it elected a Republican governor again. I haven’t been paying much attention to the coverage today, but I have read all sorts of reasons for the win. Of course it is being said that it is a repudiation of Obama, (that was a given), a pendulum swing back to the hard right, yada, yada. I’ve also read and heard that this means the Democrats need to continue to veer off to the left.

It is actually much more simple than that. Creigh Deeds, the Democratic candidate, actually was a very weak candidate and ran one of the stupidest races I’ve seen in a long time. It has been apparent in these parts that he was destined to lose for quite some time. Don’t get me wrong, McDonald, the winner and the Republican is no great candidate, but he at least didn’t appear stupid on the trail.

As to that veering leftward by the Democrats. That doesn’t work here. The only reason we’ve had two Democratic governors in the last 8 years was because both Warner and Kaine realized that Virginia is nothing if not conservative and both appealed to that.

Bottom line, just like the National big picture Democrats, the Virginia Democrats prove yet again, that the worst enemy they have is themselves.

Today I Feel Like Yelling

The last time I posted this picture to illustrate my day I said I was the penguin. Today I am much more like the bull elephant seal in the picture bellowing at the universe. We got too many curve balls and obstacles tossed at us today and it isn't even noon yet.

I thoroughly enjoyed watching This Is It tonight. It’s a great backstage movie, a terrific homage to Michael Jackson, and in many ways it must be some sort of salve for the folks who were working on preparing the concert tour and never got to see the fruits of their labor pay off. At least now some of the hard work they put into this is memorialized and will get some recognition.

I was never a big Michael Jackson fan, although I appreciated his music and showmanship. The movie certainly enhanced my view. I’m also guessing it will put to rest some of the stuff that was bandied about after his death that he couldn’t cut it any more. Although I’m sure some will say that since the film is edited they left some of that out. But I’m guessing there are quite a few 50 year olds who wish they could have half the energy Jackson shows in rehearsal.

Regardless, the man was a talent. The movie is worth seeing if for no other reason than to appreciate that.

Twitter Lists, Discovery, Sharing, Who's on First, and Top of the Pops

Twitter just rolled out its list feature en masse a few days ago and of course that means everyone is ~~talking~~ twittering about it. Of course those who like to follow follower counts (the real game behind social media) are starting to see how many lists they are on, and some are already bragging about it. I'm sure the lobbying to get on lists will start soon. The whining that will occur when someone gets removed will be loud as well.

Others are starting to wonder what the point is on a couple of levels. I agree with those that believe we won't know what lists mean until the various Twitter clients pick them up as a feature. That race is apparently already on and the who got there first and who does it better stakes will be a fun spectator sport in the near future.

I don't agree with those who question the value of lists that no one is following or will follow. Seems to me the value of a list is in the eye of the list creator and not how many lists are followed, shared, mashed up, spewed out, etc... Yeah, I'm sure those who see Twitter as a tool for something beyond personal use will disagree, but then, what else is new.

But then things are still in their infancy with lists and like when Twitter first entered the scene, no one knows what it all will mean a few months from now.

Following the Somali pirates and their escapades makes me wonder. What’s the difference between a Somali pirate and the folks (of all persuasions) who got us into this economic mess?

Om Malik has three failures in a row with Apple notebooks. He wonders if he is unlucky or the start of a larger trend. I argue the latter.

The Numa Numa Guy directs the MSU band at a half time show and they do some of his shtick. Fun.

Pat Phelan sums up some of my feelings about Twitter’s lists.
