We have seen lots of URL shortening services in place now and these services mostly came into picture with micro blogging services like Twitter, Facebook etc. The problem with these shortened URLs is that you cannot actually find out where you are navigating, sometimes these links end you up in an embarrassing situation. LongURL Mobile Expander is a Firefox add-on which reveals shortened URLs. The add-on is based on the fact that you should always know where a link takes you before clicking on it.

Once you have installed the add-on it detects for any shortened URLs and displays the actual URL when you hover on top the URL. The add-on supports more than 200 shortening services (details here).

When you click the more link in the pop up, it shows you more details on the URL like keywords, meta description, conversations surrounding this URL etc.

LongURL is a pretty useful add-on if you are dealing with lots of shortened URLs.

We have previously covered an article on how to change the library icons in Windows 7. Now we have a freeware tool which does this task even more easier than manually doing it. Replace Librarie Icons is a simple tool which allows you to change the library icons easily without having to do any editing. The application is developed by Deviantart user and does not require any  installation on Windows.

The application has two options to change the icons, one way is to select the icon from a dll file which is loaded default or select your own dll file and the second way is to select a new icon from file. In case you want to restore the old icon, you can do it easily by selecting the library icon and then clicking on the button to restore it.

This application should be useful for users who are not comfortable editing the library icon manually.

CDs and DVDs are highly prone to scratches if you do not preserve them properly and once it get scratched it might be difficult to read or copy data from the CD or DVD. Copy Cat 2.0 is a freeware tool which actually skip the bytes which are not readable from file and copy all other bytes therefore it extracts max data which is normally not done by windows copy operation. Copy Cat can be helpful at times when you want to copy a CD or DVD which is scratched.

It can also be used when you want to copy data from hard disk area which is partially not readable , when you want to copy data from floppy which is currently not being copied by windows. You can specify the number of bytes to be skipped if any error is found while copying the CD or DVD.

Windows 7 has a build in administrator account which is actually disabled just like Windows Vista, but in case you want to create a new account with the same name administrator, then you can rename the default admin account. Since the default admin account is disabled, if you try to create another admin account with the same name ‘administrator’, then Windows 7 will throw an error saying that there is already an account with similar name.

So if you want to create an account with name ‘administrator’, then its better to rename the default admin account using the following steps;

1. Open the Local Security Policy editor using the command secpol.msc in the start menu or typing it in the run command.
2. In the left panel, expand Local Policies, and click on Security Options.

3. In the right panel, right click or double click on Accounts: Rename administrator account and click on Properties.

4. Type in a name you want instead that has not ever been used by any other user account on the computer, and click on OK.
5. If you have enabled the built-in Administrator account, then you can log off or switch users to see the change or try creating a new admin account with the name ‘administrator’.
