The rare birds include the osprey, corncrake, avocet, cirl bunting and stone-curlew.

There appears to be a link between this improved breeding and conservation work, and Dr David Noble, of the British Trust for Ornithology (BTO) felt that the good work done with rare birds should now also be applied to the more common ones, such as the kestrel and skylark.

To read the full BBC News story and listed to a short piece from RSPB conservation director, Dr Mark Avery, click here.
