We are pleased to announce that our access to the e-books via the Dawsonera service is now fully functional again.

We currently have no access to any of our Dawsonera e-books, this includes Ecology: individuals, populations and communities by Michael Begon. ICT are investigating the problem and we will post as soon as the e-books are available again.

Print copies of Cell, one of the most popular life sciences journals, are now available in the Central Library again having been recently moved from the Science Museum Library in Swindon.

As a result, we now hold Vol 1 (1974) – Vol 74 (1994) in print and have electronic access to Vol 75 (1995) onwards. 

The print copies can be found in the a-z journal collection on level 4 and electronic access is available via our find electronic journals service.

A BBC News story has highlighted the fact that rare birds seem to be breeding better in the UK over the last 10 years than their more common counterparts. The rare birds include the osprey, corncrake, avocet, cirl bunting and stone-curlew.

There appears to be a link between this improved breeding and conservation work, and Dr David Noble, of the British Trust for Ornithology (BTO) felt that the good work done with rare birds should now also be applied to the more common ones, such as the kestrel and skylark.

ISI Web of Knowledge has some new tools that may be of interest. The tools allow you to conduct a search across the ISI Web of Knowledge and easily perform an ‘All Databases search’.

The Library now has a subscription to the Royal Society of Chemistry Journals archive. There are many journal titles available, but two of particular interest to Life Scientists are Integrative Biology and Molecular Biosystems. Search the Library Catalogue for RSC journals archive to link through to the full selection, or search the catalogue for individual titles directly.
