I love fall weddings. And this one was no exception. I had the privilege to spend a beautiful October day with Libby and Mike on their wedding day. I just love chatting with these guys. Every time we met for a "quick meeting", it turned into 2 hours of great conversation and laughter. They were so easy to connect with. So when the big day came, I knew it was going to work out great. The wedding was in East Aurora so I got see to some new sites, which made for great inspiration.

Another stellar wedding. This one took place at the Daisy Flour Mill. I really love it there. It's so rustic and rich with history. It has all of these cozy nooks that lend well to Photography.

If you've been following my blog, you'll know Maija & Fred's smiling faces. They are just riot to be with. And you can't help but smile when you're with Maija. She's got a wonderful spirit about her that's just magnetic.

August 22nd - Kristi & Al

I am so crazy lucky! I'm sure I've already mentioned it... but wow, I am so blessed to be chosen by my clients. I really feel so fortunate to be a part of their lives. And Kristi and Al are certainly no exception to that experience. They were absolutely awesome to work with. From the 1st time I met them, they put a smile on my face. I just knew everything was going to be great.

Kristi And Al chose to commemorate their love at the beautiful Shadow Lake Country Club. We got gorgeous weather (Thank you!) and everybody was in a wonderful mood. And as the day progressed, I could plainly see that they were lucky too. They had surrounded themselves with wonderful friends and loving family. And let me just say, there was nothing shy about any them! They rocked it out under the tent and were still going strong when we left. Nice!

July 11th - Kerri & Derek

On July 11th, I joined Kerri & Derek on their wedding day. And if you're from New York, you know that July was a wet month. As they got ready for their special day, the rain came down hard. Really hard. But Kerri and Derek's glow never faded. They stayed positive and never got discouraged. After the ceremony, the skies opened and the sun shined down on us. It was wonderful! After the ceremony, we went over to the George Eastman House for some photos and had some fun with the wedding party. Check out the slide show for highlights! Enjoy!

June 26th - Maija & Fred, Engagement Session Sneak Peak

These guys were great! Maija & Fred have hired me to shoot their wedding in August. So as part of their package, we did an Engagement portrait session at Manhattan Square Park. We had lots of fun just walking around and talking about stuff, all the while I was snapping away. I'll be using these photos in their signature journal (click here to see a sample of what the journals look like). Hi Folks,

Spring is finally breaking in Upstate NY. Woohoo! Yeah it feels good and I'm getting excited about another excellent wedding season this year. So today I realized that I have a bunch of wedding album designs to share from last year, so stay tuned for more.

Feb 22,d - Maija, Fred and... Cyrus.

So I get a call from Maija in early February. She booked me to cover her wedding in August. I was thinking to myself, wow, it's a little early to be hearing from them. As we speak on the phone, Maija explained that her dog Cyrus is going to die soon. She was wondering if we could do their engagement session early, with Cyrus, so they could have some good pictures of him in his final days. Of course I said YES. We went out to Webster Park and played in the snow. Let me tell you, it was cold, but we made the best of it and got some great stuff. Here's some previews for you. Cyrus passed away a few weeks later. :(

Kerri & Derek - Engagement Session

Before the snow started flying, I did an Engagement Session with Kerri and Derek, who have me shooting their wedding on July 11th of next year. We took a ride to Mendon Ponds Park and explored the various areas there. These guys were great to work with. Kerri mentioned that I captured Derek's "real" smile, which apparently is not so easy to do. Looks like we're going to be a great fit for the wedding. After the holidays, I will be designing them a signature journal that includes photos from this session. The signature journal is an excellent way to capture the thoughts and feeling of your guests at the wedding, while spotlighting photos of the bride and groom in a custom designed book. A great alternative to "sign your name on the line guest book". Take a look at this video slide show to check out some of the photos from their session!

Just letting everybody know that I am starting to receive a lot of inquires for 2009 now. I have also received 3 inquires for 2010 in the last week. People are planning well in advance, which is very smart. If you like my work, and are possibly interested in securing my services, please pick up the phone or contact us. As mentioned in a previous post here on the blog, I am accepting less clients next year.

Some months are open but I only have one slot left for May, August and September. So if you're wedding is in those months, please let us know before it fills up.

Album Spotlight - Misty & Jeff

Hello Everybody!

As the season winds down, I'm getting all of our client's albums done from this summer. And for some reason I skipped this design and didn't post it! Sorry! This design is a little more conservative which really matched Misty and Jeff's style. Once I received their favorite photos, I used them in the album, along with other photos to create an album they really loved. Check it out!

October 17th - Ashley & Chris

I love fall weddings! And being my last wedding for 2008, I really wanted to end with a bang. And working with Ashley and Chris made it even better. They were married in St. Cecilia's Church in Rochester and then proceeded to Bristol Harbour for the reception. We were given a beautiful autumn day with a mix of blue skies and wispy clouds which added a dramatic backdrop to their special day. What we really loved about Ashley and Chris was their appreciation of Photography. They were totally open to our suggestions, and because of that we captured some really great shots. September 28th, Shana & Keegan

At the end of Septemeber, we had the pleasure of capturing the marriage celebration of Shana and Keegan at Ventosa Vineyards. With it Tuscan decor, it was a warm and inviting place to capture their wedding. The reception was intimate and personal which made for some very memorable moments. I could really appreciate the deep loving relationships they both had with each other, and their family. It rained a touch so we couldn't go into the vineyard but later in the night we got some wonderfully moody photographs that I'm sure everybody will enjoy. Our heartfelt congratulations go out to Shana and Keegan as they embark on this new and exciting chapter of their lives!

September 13th - Meredith & Jody

I am such a lucky guy! I get to work with some really great couples. And Meredith and Jody were no exception. They were married at the scenic Bristol Harbour in Canandaigua, NY. The clouds were brooding a bit but we managed to stay dry just in time for the ceremony and formals. Then we headed inside for a super fun filled reception. I loved the way Meredith and Jody really wore their emotions on their sleeve. They were bubbling over with excitement. Their love for each other was TRULY evident. Tip #1 - Setting Aside Time for Photographs

Ok, let's state the obvious. Planning a wedding is hard work.

Thankfully, there's a lot of information out there to help people with the process. And for many of my clients, this is the 1st time they've ever planned such a huge event. So I'm offering this tip to anybody who will listen: When planning out your day, set aside time for photographs!

Clients in general don't really set aside enough time for creative photos. Some do but most don't. So what often happens is we have a very brief window of time (after the ceremony and formal photos) to work with just the bride, groom and the wedding party. Then everybody gets whisked away to the reception and the night rolls one event into the next.

Here's a sample time line that allows adequate time for photographs:

1:00 - 1:30pm Wedding ceremony
1:45 - 2:30pm formals

Time for photos (Intimate portraits of the Bride & Groom, and the wedding party)
2:30 - 4:30pm (2 hours)

4:30 - 5pm travel to the reception...

You might be saying to your self "Well that's just not going to work in my case." We understand that this may not always be possible depending on location and other variables, but taking excellent pictures requires some time. Our response would be "then set aside as much time as you can." After the ceremony and formals is the best time for creative photos. We have more light to work with and everybody's hair and makeup is still looking good.

This is your wedding day. A once in a lifetime event for most. We can't go back and retake the photos. If you value photography, (which we hope you do!) we recommend that you set aside at least 2 hours for photographs. You 'll never regret it. I promise! Thanks for reading!

Hello People!

Now that the busy season is just about behind me, I've got a number of albums to design! This is my favorite part of the process. Creating the visual story with images.

So today I'll be sharing an album from a wedding shot back in July. Johanna and Nick had a great wedding party that was all about having fun, and the photos, and album show it. They preferred a more photojournalistic style of coverage with a little bit of posing for formals. Their album ended up being 82 pages in a 12" x 12". It's going to be amazing! Check it out!

August 23rd - Melissa & Geoff

On the 23rd of August, Melissa and Geoff proclaimed their love and commitment to each other. They were married at the historic Asbury First United Methodist Church on East Ave. We then went to the picturesque Casa Larga for the reception. We were blessed with a warm sunny day and were able to capture some wonderful landscapes of the vineyard. Melissa and Geoff were real troopers and gave us artistic freedom while they roasted in the sun! They were really getting warm, but it was all worth it! We captured some stellar photos. August 15th - Ashley & Shawn

Ashley and Shawn were a riot! And so was their wedding party! They chose the Plantion Party House in Spencerport as the location for their celebration. The weather turned out beautifully; providing a warm and summery backdrop of vivid greens and blossoming flowers. And after the ceremony they went into the hall to have one heck of a party! August 9th - Sarah & Rodrigo

Colorful! That's the one word that best described Sarah and Rodrigo's wedding day. Vibrant colors and touches of Mexican flair accented their special day. They were married at St. Mary's Church in Canandaigua. The church has a gorgeous golden half dome altar that really glows. After the wedding they hopped into a convertable and drove a few blocks down the street to the Historic Granger Homestead. They celebrated in a huge tent in the front lawn of the mansion and brought in a live band (Boys of Summer) which really rocked the house. Check it out!
