Sock Ons were designed by Kezi Levin, a young mother of five little boys and a graduate of Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London. Sock Ons are worn over the sock and lock it into place like so - genius! It's the simplest of inventions that I admire the most and I love the ability that mum entrepreneurs have to create simple, functional products that work and look attractive and make things just a little bit easier for the rest of us.

The Simple Slip and 2 Strap styles use the miracle of velcro to allow kids easy, fast access to throw their shoes on and run off to play.
One of my personal favourites is the Simply Stripes Slip which has a soft brushed cotton upper with Dark Denim and Clay Red stripes.
The Buck boot is crafted from gorgeous red leather stitched in thick cord with toffee leather in the toe and heel. A zipper in the back makes this boot very easy to get in and out of. Gotta be speedy when you’re wrangling ponies.

We're a kids only store here at Life & Soles but after admiring the wee Native Shoes arriving at my door I had to spring for the Jimmy boot in Bunker Green to adorn my own feet. I have, of course, not been disappointed.

Have your child's feet measured, at a reputable retailer, on a regular basis (ideally every 2-3 months).
Try to check your child's feet often for any signs of damage such as blisters or pressure sores. These are sure signs of an ill-fitting shoe and little children may not be capable of telling you there is a problem. It's been suggested that we should pay as much attention to our children's feet as we do to their teeth! Makes sense I guess, think how much work our feet do over the course of our lifetime.
It's recommended that children's shoes be fitted to allow 3/8" to 1/2" of room from their longest toe to provide room for growth. Shoes with a rounded toe box will also allow good wiggle room for tiny toes. However, be careful not to put your child in shoes that are too big. Over-sized footwear comes with it's own set of problems, it can lead to blisters, chaffing and cause your little one to stumble and trip.
A flexible, flat, non-slip sole is best for small children and breathable materials like canvas and leather are recommended.
Children don't need shoes until they begin to walk, soft soled booties and crib shoes are all that's needed to protect crawling feet up to this point. Even once a child requires shoes to protect their walking feet it's advisable for them to go shoeless as often as possible. Barefoot is best for healthy foot growth and proper muscle development.
Being a Livie & Luca newbie it seemed necessary to perform due diligence and let my fiercest shoe critic (my two year old daughter Thea) road test a pair. I have to admit I was awestruck by the gorgeous Livie & Luca 'Buck' boot and hoped Thea would feel the same way. Based on looks alone they get top scores: the softest leather in toffee and white gold, with thick cord stitching and a cream zipper running up the back. They also incorporate a wide flexible sole that's healthy for little feet.

The first test was putting them on. The zipper and soft materials made getting Thea's feet into them a breeze. The zipper had the added bonus that Thea mastered putting them on and taking them off in next to no time - this garnered big, happy "look what I can do", smiles. Thea performed a few jumps around the kitchen (her go-to test for all new footwear) and seemed satisfied, we headed outside. By the time we'd walked a block the Buck boots had already received comments and compliments from people on the street, not part of the test but impressive none the less.
We hit the park to see what the Buck could really do. It seems these boots were made for walking, running, skipping, climbing, jumping, sliding and any manner of toddler contortion. Thea seemed completely unencumbered as she clambered, ran and hopped around. The boots easily gave and moved with her feet as she happily put them through their paces. The Livie & Luca 'Buck' boot has it all – looks, quality, comfort and two thumbs up from an active little girl.
