Yes, we just celebrated our 15th anniversary last month. This means that this blog has been here for more than that :) There are a lot of things that happened during this 15 years of married life but I would like to see it as blessings that were poured to us.

How would I summarize it?

Year 1 - 5 was the US years. This was the time when we were just you and me. We would go anywhere we wanted to go. We would experience many things together for the first time and know more about each other. I would say that this has been blissful and happy and totally life-changing for both of us.

I love our travels. We went to Davao for our Honeymoon. We met with our Ninong Mayor Digong (he was the Davao Mayor then), visited Aquino family and went to different tourist destinations. I love when we went to Puerto Galera. It was work-leisure experience for us. We rode the Roro going to Calapan then travelled through a jeepney going to Puerto. It was a happy experience but unforgettable one because we almost didn't make it back. This is an exaggeration because we were stuck in the middle of the sea. Good thing, the boat's mechanic and engineer was able to make the boat run again before water entered the boat. We also enjoyed our Cebu Adventure. An adventure worth remembering. We toured Cebu with just a map. We went around, mostly walking from one point to another. This was the time when we were already seriously TTC (trying to conceive). We prayed hard to Sto. de Cebu to grant our wish. Our last travel was a trip to Obando Bulacan. Another experience that we wanted to celebrate again. We experienced dancing with other couples wishing and praying to have children.

Year 6-10 was the growing up years. We started our small family by this time. One after another, the kids came to our lives. We are blessed to have surpassed this stage of milk, diapers and vaccines. Every moment with the kids are truly memorable. Every child birth has its own story but all ended well.

Year 11-15 was building the foundation. The kids are now in school. Our experiences are now far different from the first years. On these years, we experience the crying sessions during their nursery days, but at the same time, we experienced to go up the stage and savor the accomplishments of each kids by the end of the school year. We are proud parents to these wonderful kids.

On our 16th year, we are welcoming Puberty and Adolescent stages. Another tough stage with the kids. Learning and teaching them to be independent is another thing. Letting them choose with their free will. Letting them express themselves without hurting other people. Teaching them to fly, which they will do in the coming years.

I am blessed to have my husband. He is definitely not perfect but he is the BEST for me. There is no other like him in this world. I love you, G. Thank you for the 15 wonderful years :)

As of writing, we are married for 14 years, 8 months, 4 weeks, 1 day. A lot has happened ever since we were married and everyday since then, I had always been happy to be with you. You are my God's Greatest Gift.

1. Love her mom. Treat her mother with respect, honor, and a big heaping spoonful of public displays of affection. When she grows up, the odds are good she’ll fall in love with and marry someone who treats her much like you treated her mother. Good or bad, that’s just the way it is. I’d prefer good.

2. Always be there. Quality time doesn’t happen without quantity time. Hang out together for no other reason than just to be in each other’s presence. 5. Pray for her. Regularly. Passionately. Continually.

6. Buy her a glove and teach her to throw a baseball. Make her proud to throw like a girl… a girl with a wicked slider.

7. She will fight with her mother. Choose sides wisely.

8. Go ahead. Buy her those pearls.

9. Of course you look silly playing peek-a-boo. You should play anyway.

10. Enjoy the wonder of bath time.

11. There will come a day when she asks for a puppy. Don’t over think it. At least one time in her life, just say, “Yes.”

18. Tell her she’s beautiful. Say it over and over again. Someday an animated movie or “beauty” magazine will try to convince her otherwise.

19. Teach her to change a flat. A tire without air need not be a major panic inducing event in her life. She’ll still call you crying the first time it happens.

20. Take her camping. Immerse her in the great outdoors. Watch her eyes fill with wonder the first time she sees the beauty of wide open spaces. Leave the iPod at home.

21. Let her hold the wheel. She will always remember when daddy let her drive.

22. She’s as smart as any boy. Make sure she knows that.

23. When she learns to give kisses, she will want to plant them all over your face. Encourage this practice.

24. Knowing how to eat sunflower seeds correctly will not help her get into a good college. Teach her anyway.

Blame it to post-partum depression...
*Why is it that there are some people who wouldn't just understand? They always have their reasons and stick with it no matter how you explain things to them.
*Life is not simple at all. There are times when you need to really strive and make ends meet but it wouldn't even meet half-way. While there are also times when you don't do anything at all but blessing just keep on pouring in. Life is not really fair... I hope I know the winning combinations for the next lotto draw.
*Diabetes is hereditary. The girls are loving chocolates each day, especially when they see that there are a lot of it on the fridge. I hope they won't be diagnosed with diabetes in the future. I'll forever worry about them having complications such as bladder cancer. I heard that there are some medicines which have higher risk of having bladder cancer as complications. One of which is the Actos meds. I also heard that actos attorneys are out to help patients who acquired this disease. Watts Guerra Craft LLP is waiting to be contacted in case you know someone who is concern with this case.
*I wanted to have more source of income :) Is it time that we focus on our own business? But where to get the capital is the next big question... again, lotto combi please :)
*I think I am desperate in winning the lotto. As if this is the only answer to my worries.

baby Migs

Another blessing from above. After several hours of waiting, he is finally here. I gave birth to our handsome little boy, Caesar Miguel on November 4, 2011 at 12:06pm through NSD.
It was a different experience giving birth to him but again, it was worth the wait.
This picture was taken a day after he was born. The day that we were scheduled to go home.

I like this picture so much. It is so simple but it shows the real thing. Best things in life are free... very well said. Among these, I love family the most. With family comes everything. There are good memories that you would cherish as you grow old. These are people who could give you endless love, kisses, smiles and a bunch of laughter -- especially when there are kids around. And who would miss the friends that come with the family. We meet friends when family is always smiling. At the end of the day, when we are inside our rooms we can have peace of mind and sleep thinking that when we wake up in the morning, there will still be our loved ones by our side.

These are the things that come into my mind now that I am giving birth soon. I pray that I'll be given a good medical team just like that of Lorissa Segal MD. My present OB assures me that everything will be fine and that she has great people behind her.

I know that physicians have networks where they can ask for assistance whenever they need one. I am not aware if Doximity is already present here in our country but I believe that there are reliable network for each doctor. Members of this group can ask fellow members regarding their concerns with their patients. They can even look for specialists that they can refer to their patients by just referring to their database. This is cool and really helpful, if you ask me.

This time, I pray that God will send angels to guide the doctors once I get inside the delivery room. I lift everything to him...

Its Christmas time. This is something that our family is looking forward to. We have started a little tradition and Gwen Mari has been looking forward to it. Last year, we started a family tradition, which is setting up the Christmas tree. She and G decorated the tree while siobe and I handed them the decors. It was fun and she was fascinated with it. Since then, she makes sure that she lights the tree every night and enjoy the singing Christmas lights.

Now that we are away from home, she will still decorate the tree but here in her grandparents' house. We haven't brought out the pieces yet but we hope to do so after Halloween. For the meantime, she'll just have to be contented with the christmas songs... this is something that she is new to - - On the first day of xmas your true love gave you a schadenfreude.

The girls, especially achi is now sporting a long hair. I was thinking if I could give justice to giving her a new hairdo when I don't have any idea on how to cut hair. If only I could enroll in TESDA but being away for a few hours would be a challenge for me and the girls. If I tag one along, I might not be able to learn anything. But if there is a cosmetology school here which is similar to Regency or something near to its standards, it might still be okay bringing one of the girls along. I know that Regency has a salon-like set-up in their schools and they really give students the chance to work on this set-up. Given the chance, I'd grab the opportunity in enrolling in their school. I'd love it too if they offer other courses like Make-up 101. I'll even encourage other wives/moms out there. It will surely boost our confidence when we can do something to improve other people's look.. .even for part-time job only.

If you are within the US, you may want to inquire at any Regency School for a new learning experience.

Resolving Conflict in Marriage and Other Relationships

Sometimes the biggest conflicts in marriage are over the most trivial issues. One of the silliest fights Kay and I ever had was over bath soap. For me, a hot steamy shower is a spiritual experience. Right up there with eating fresh cinnamon rolls. I also happen to be a person who gets bored very quickly with the same thing. So I like variety. I don't want to use the same kind of soap for 42 years.

One day I said to Kay I'd like some different kind of soap. But I said it in a way that sounded like our marriage was a failure because we used the same kind of soap all the time. Three or four months later at Christmas time, she personally wrapped and placed under the tree - 27 different bars of soap!

Every relationship, even good ones have conflict. If you don't know how to deal with it, how to resolve it, how to manage it, you can kill your relationship.

The Bible is very clear about it. Mark 3 says, "A home filled with strife and division destroys itself." We're going to look at some practical steps right out of God's Word that will help us Pull Together When We're Pulled Apart. If you're not married, you can use these principles in your business, with your best friend, with children, whatever. We all have conflict any time we're involved in relationship.

What causes conflict?

The Bible says conflict is caused by selfishness. James 4:1, "Do you know where your fights and arguments come from? They come from selfish desires that war within you." I am basically a selfish person. I think of me before I think of anybody else. And you do too. I want what I want and you want what you want, and when these competing desires collide that's called conflict.
The night before I got married, my father in law sat down with us and said, "There are five areas where marriages usually have conflict: money, sex, in-laws, children, and communication." My father-in-law was a prophet. In our marriage we went five for five! We hit every single one of them.

Some of you are in major pain right now. You are frustrated to no end. You feel stuck in your relationship because you have argued about certain issues over and over in your relationship and there has been no resolution, much less reconciliation. You don't know what to do.
God says, "Here are some steps." I've seen these steps work in dozens, if not hundreds of couples.

If you're going to pull together, when you're pulled apart, you have to...

1. Call on God for help

Pray about it. Before you go to the other person and talk to them about the problem, discuss it with God. This may solve the problem right there. Before you start dealing with the issue, before you talk to anybody about the problem, talk to God about it, and ask Him for help.
I challenge you to practice what I call ventilating vertically. Many of you are very good at ventilating horizontally, but ventilating vertically is when you come to God. You come and say, "Here's how I feel." And you just lay it out.

James 4:2, "You quarrel and fight. You do not have because you do not ask God." This is so foundational; you have to get this point. Conflict often occurs when we expect other people to meet needs that only God Himself can meet in our lives.

One day you stood in front of a bunch of people and you said, "I do." What you were really saying was, "I expect." You weren't thinking about what you intended to do and the promises you were going to keep. You were thinking, "Good! All my needs are going to be met now! This person is the answer to my dreams and is going to fulfill me in every way." There is no person alive who could possibly meet all your needs. Only God can do that.

God says, "You quarrel and fight. You have unmet needs because you don't ask God." How do I know when I'm looking to other people instead of God to meet my needs' It's called anger. Anger is a warning light, which says, "I'm expecting somebody to meet my needs." When I have a need for you to be on time and you're late, or when I have a need for you to notice me and you don't, I get angry. God says, "Why don't you try talking to Me about it first." Instead of expecting your mate to meet all your needs, God wants you to look to Him. "You have not because you do not ask God."

2. Confess my part of the conflict

Before I start attacking and blaming, I need to do a frank evaluation and ask, "How much of this conflict is my fault? I need to do an honest checkup and admit my part. When you're wrong, admit it. And when you're right, shut up!

Be honest. Matthew 7:3, Jesus speaking, "Why do you look at the speck in another's eye and pay no attention to the log in your own eye' Take the log out of your own eye first and you'll be able to see clearly."

Everybody has blind spots. When Jesus says, "Before you start getting the sawdust speck out of your partner's eye, why don't you get the telephone pole out of yours?'' He is by exaggeration saying, check yourself out first.

I need to ask, "Am I being unrealistic? Am I being insensitive? Am I being over-sensitive? Am I being too demanding? Am I being ungrateful? Before I get involved in dealing with you, I first need to talk to God, and then look at myself and admit what problems I'm bringing in."
The number one excuse for divorce is, "We're just incompatible." That has an innocent, no fault air to it. Leading experts on marriage have this to say about the issue of compatibility.
'Dr. Paul Tournier, the Swiss psychiatrist who wrote in To Understand Each Other: "So called incompatibility is a myth invented by jurists in order to plead for divorce. It is likewise a common excuse for people to hide their own weaknesses and failings. Misunderstandings and mistakes can be corrected when there is a willingness to do so. The problem is the lack of complete frankness." And I'd add inflexibility.

'Dr. Arch Hart, who's spoken here at Saddleback, says, "If people can be divorced for incompatibility, I cannot conceive why all of us are not divorced."
Marriage is a life long process of overcoming your differences. The Bible says, "If we say we are without sin we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us." Each of us has an infinite capacity for self-deception. I can blame you for all my problems. But the fact is, it's not incompatibility. It's selfishness and an unwillingness to change. Let's call it what it is.

3. Convene a peace conference

Conflict does not resolve itself. It must be dealt with intentionally ' deliberately. Conflict gets worse when you leave it alone. Hearts grow hardened and positions get solidified, and bridges get broken beyond repair. So you have to intentionally deal with the conflict.
The Bible is very specific about this. In Matthew 5, Jesus says, "If you remember that someone has something against you leave your gift at the altar and go at once to make peace. Then come back and offer your gift to God." It is impossible to worship with bitterness in your heart and unresolved conflict with others.

Jesus says don't ignore it. Deal with the issue while you can deal with it. If you've got something wrong with somebody or they've got something wrong with you, God says you go to them.
When? At once. Postponed conflict only gets worse. Another verse in the Bible says, "Don't let the sun go down on your anger." I think that means 24 hours would be a maximum amount of time you should let something go unresolved. You need to do it as soon as possible, before it festers and turns into bitterness.

4. Consider my mate's perspective

I can't just look at my own viewpoint, my own situation; I have to look at your viewpoint too. This is very difficult because it's not natural. It is not natural for me to look at life from Kay's viewpoint. It is not natural for me to look at life from your viewpoint. This requires an intentional shift where I have to change my focus from looking at my needs to looking at your needs. It takes God to do that. It is a mental shift that we do not do naturally. But it's the secret of resolving conflict.

The secret of resolving conflict is understanding where people are coming from. When you understand where people are coming from, it's so much easier. The better you understand somebody, the less conflict you're going to have with him or her, because you know how to deal with him or her.

How do you learn to understand someone' Listen. Listen more than you talk. This again, is not easy for many of us. It's not easy for me. Some of us get so anxious to make our point, to tell our side, to defend ourselves; we don't even stop to listen to what the other person is saying or their point of view. We must seek to understand before seeking to be understood.

The Bible says in Philippians 2:4, "Look to each other's interest and not merely your own." The word "look' in Greek is scopos. It's like a scope on a rifle or a microscope. It means pay attention. You are most like Christ when you ask, "What are her/his needs and how can I meet them'" When you're angry, you're preoccupied with yourself. But when you're like Christ, you look to each other's interest and not merely your own. One of the most powerful peace making statements is when you say to your husband/wife, "I'm sorry. I was only thinking of myself."

5. Concentrate on reconciliation, not resolution

There's a very important difference. Reconciliation means to re-establish the relationship. Resolution means to resolve every issue by coming to agreement on everything. That's not going to happen.
You'll discover there are some things you're never going to agree on. I don't care if you both love the Lord and are both dramatically in love with each other. There are some things you're never going to agree on simply because God has wired us differently.

You're not going to agree with everything your mate believes or thinks. But you can disagree without being disagreeable. That's called wisdom. The Bible says in James 3, "Wisdom is peace loving and courteous. It allows discussion and it is willing to yield to others." The Bible says it's wise to compromise. You can have unity without uniformity. You can walk hand in hand without seeing eye to eye. You can have reconciliation without resolution of every issue.

Some of you are worn out from the conflict in your marriage. You want to throw in the towel. Don't do it! It is more rewarding to resolve a conflict than to dissolve a relationship.
So your homework is to schedule a peace conference.

Let me close with a couple of suggestions:

1. Some of you may need to get professional help. Many marriages are miserable, and they go year after year with the same old problems, because they're just too proud to go get help. Don't go to just anybody. Get a godly counselor who bases his/her practice on God's Word.

2. The other thing you need to do is get help from God. You can't do this on your own. I've seen these steps work. But you need Christ's power to work them.

Many marriage conflicts would be solved overnight if both the husband and wife would kneel before Jesus Christ and say, "We humble ourselves and humbly ask You to make this thing work. We submit our egos to You and our hurts to You. Jesus Christ, do what only You can do."

8th Wedding Anniversary marks the Bronze Anniversary. Here are some facts why 8 is such a great blessing...

The number eight is considered particularly auspicious in Chinese culture because it sounds similar to the word for 'prosper' or 'wealth'. It is pronounced like "bah" in Mandarin (pinyin: bā).

The visual aspect of the 8th anniversary because it is similar to the infinity symbol which is a happy thing to associate with the connection you have with your husband or wife.

Entering the 8th year is such a blessing. It may not be as grand as the 10th or 25th anniversary but it means that we are getting there. We have surpassed the 7th year itch, as they say. We passed it with flying colors.

I am pregnant with our third (and hopefully last) child. As my previous pregnancies, this one is relatively easy. I haven't experience morning sickness or what. Compared with my first, I am only diagnosed with Impaired Glucose, meaning only one variable is higher than normal values with regards to my OGTT. This further means that I just have to monitor my diet and I would be safe from taking insulin again.

I remember during my first pregnancy, I had to endure insulin shots twice a day. Aside from this, I also need to monitor my sugar level from time to time. If not for the expensive strips, I would have to endure 3x daily monitoring. Now, I'd rather keep a straight diet than undergo the same routine again.

Despite having GDM, I still consider myself lucky that I do not have Diabetes during non-pregnancy days. I am afraid of dealing with diabetes medicines like Actos.There are studies that show that Actos (also known as Duetact, ActoplusMet or Competact in the market), may lead to injuries that can further lead to Actos lawsuit. There were cases where injuries like heart failure, increased risk of bladder cancer and heart attacks are experienced after patients take in Actos medicine.

I am now on my 6th month, about to enter the third trimester. A few more weeks and I'll be able to eat everything I want again. I would have to say bye bye to my fear of diabetes again... hopefully this would be the last pregnancy.

There is another baby on its way. It's not from our side but from Tita Tines'. In 5 months, she will give birth to her and Tito Sonny's child. As a first time mom, she is very excited and anxious. She is likewise 'paranoid' with how she is feeling. I can totally relate because I was like that too.

We got worried about her baby though during their first trimester. She got chicken pox. Good thing she knew about it on the first sign and her OB gave her corresponding safe medicine. She didn't even got the chance to finish everything because the chicken pox subsided immediately. Thank God she didn't have to face the same situation as that of those mothers who took Topamax on their pregnancy days. This is not a medicine for chicken pox but for migraine. I heard that there were mothers whose child came out with defects because they were able to take in the medicine during their first trimester. Some kids had notched lips while others had open groove on their roof of their mouth to their nose. Though it is not the mother's fault, it is still very disturbing. There's Tatay in his usual shorts get-up. There's achi, skipping with her 1 leg. The hair looks familiar too since she loves putting her hair up these days. Siobe, the small baby. It's a boy at first glance but when it can pass for Stefi since she has short hair too. If not for her earrings, she is often mistaken as a boy. Then Nanay :) The headband and the hair is so the same... and don't forget the pants.

Out of the 10 things that I should do this 2011, I have already accomplished 3 of it. The 4th one, is in the making, and it will be accomplished by next week.
Have another blog. I already started our family travel blog. I have a list already of what to right but I haven't got the time to write those yet.
Achi's bday. We celebrated her 2nd bday with Dora theme :)
Family vacation. We already have one when we went to Bacolod last March. We went to visit relatives and friends. We were there for 4 days.
