Go and visit your Mama.

If she is gone, visit someone else who has made a difference in your life.

Treasure your relationships.

A man stopped at a flower shop to order some flowers to be wired to his mother who lived two hundred miles away.

As he got out of his car he noticed a young girl sitting on the curb sobbing. He asked her what was wrong and she replied, “I wanted to buy a red rose for my mother. But I only have seventy-five cents, and a rose costs two dollars.”

The man smiled and said, “Come on in with me. I’ll buy you a rose.” He bought the little girl her rose and ordered his own mother’s flowers. As they were leaving he offered the girl a ride home. She said, “Yes, please! You can take me to my mother.”

She directed him to a cemetery, where she placed the rose on a freshly dug grave. The man returned to the flower shop, cancelled the wire order, picked up a bouquet and drove the two hundred miles to his mother’s house.

My dear friend Marvett Smith of Savoring the Simple

lost her Daddy this week.

This is what she shared about the experience:

Last Saturday my daughter and I took my dad outside for a walk in the warm sun. The walk was short from his room to the patio, but I wanted him to feel the sun on his face, to get some fresh air, and to see the beautiful flowers growing just outside the door. We only stayed outside for a half an hour or so before he asked to return to his room. I didn't know it at the time, but this would be our last walk together. My dad completed his suffering yesterday morning, and he peacefully slipped away from us. My heart is heavy at this time knowing that it will be some time before I see him again, but I also share in the happiness I know he is experiencing because he is finally free. I have great respect for those of you who have lived through this kind of grief, and I am grateful for so many strong examples. I know the coming days will be rough, but I'm thankful to have had this man in my life and to have loved him so much. I am especially grateful for the last year and all of the extra time we spent together. My little family has wonderful memories to hold onto until we see him again.

I saw a little movie by Dove

circling the internet on Tuesday morning.

I didn't feel like watching it

because I was having a non beautiful day.

The last thing on my list of things to do

was watch that 'feel good' movie.

Who has time for feeling good

when you are in a grumpy mood, right?

Finally, after seeing it blasted

on every human's facebook wall,

I conceded and watched.

I found myself shaking my head yes.

I found myself wiping my eyes.

I found myself thinking

of all the beautiful women I know

who don't think they are beautiful.

My Mom.

My best friend Jen.

My sister Betsy.

My friend George's mom, Mrs. Blood.

All of these beautiful women

don't think they are that pretty.

And I?

Well,

I think they are the most beautiful

girls in the world.

I shared the video on facebook

and sure enough,

people related.

People wrote that they cried.

People shared it.

It was a nice feeling to share some joy on a grumpy day.

Today I read a post about how Dove

doesn't really care about women.

They only promoted

blonde haired, blue eyed, skinny women.

Oh.

I don't know about Dove,

but this is what I do know about me.

I see beautiful women every day.

I see beautiful women who feel badly about themselves.

I see one when I look in the mirror.

I think we need to embrace our beauty.

There is beauty in the women all around us.

Take time today to make someone feel beautiful.

And then, and perhaps most importantly, look in the mirror today,

and find your beauty.

It is there, no matter what you think.

Trust me, I know.

This month we are doing a post about our favorite theme during the first 12 months of the Creativity Project.

My favorite was Life at my house.

And I cheated.

I did life at my parent's house.

And guess what? I am cheating again.

My Mom and Dad are home to me.

They will always be my home.

On the sunny Saturday of March 9, Kaish and I went to visit my Mom and Dad.

The sky was blue. Our hearts were light.

My Mom was baking and taking care of my Daddy.

Kaish was lovely enough to volunteer to clean the beaters.

The farm across the way belongs to Dick Moyer.
He passed away a little over two years ago.
My Dad loved having a farm next to Mr. Moyer's.
He had farmed in Pipersville for over 60 years.

If you give my Mom just 10 minutes she will whip up a scrumptious dessert.

On this day, she whipped up a key lime pie.

My Mom keeps this little table in the corner of the kitchen for the grandkids.
There are usually one or two little people roaming around her house at all times.

My Daddy's favorite newspaper is the Lancaster Farming.
He is signed up to get this newspaper until the year 2026 I think.
Isn't that hilarious?
He extends his contract by a few years each time he visits the Pennsylvania State Farm Show.

Whenever I try to take my Mom's picture she tells me she isn't pretty.
I thinks she is the most beautiful woman in the world.

Her homemade rolls are so good they might make you cry.

I love her hands. She always keeps them busy doing something for her family.

Since my Dad has been hurt, my Mom has been taking care of the cows in the barn.
There was some water leaking from one of the barn pipes, so my mom and dad have been filling up milk jugs with water every night to give to the cows.

Easter is important.

I am grateful that Jesus rose from the grave.

Luke 24:1-12

But on the first day of the week, at early dawn, they came to the tomb, bringing the spices which they had prepared. And they found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. And it happened that while they were perplexed about this, behold, two men suddenly stood near them in dazzling apparel; and as the women were terrified and bowed their faces to the ground, the men said to them, "Why do you seek the living One among the dead? "He is not here, but He has risen. Remember how He spoke to you while He was still in Galilee, saying that the Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again." And they remembered His words, and returned from the tomb and reported all these things to the eleven and to all the rest. I love Easter because it is a wonderful welcome to Spring.

I love spending an extra day with my family.

Easter is more than bunnies and candy and new dresses.

The paradox of our time in history is that we have taller buildings but shorter tempers; wider freeways, but narrower viewpoints.

We spend more, but have less; we buy more, but enjoy less.

We have bigger houses and smaller families; more conveniences, but less time.

We have more degrees but less sense; more knowledge, but less judgment; more experts, yet more problems; more medicine, but less wellness.

We drink too much, smoke too much, spend too recklessly, laugh too little, drive too fast, get too angry, stay up too late, get up too tired, read too little, watch TV too much, and pray too seldom.

We have multiplied our possessions, but reduced our values.

We talk too much, love too seldom, and hate too often.

We’ve learned how to make a living, but not a life.

We’ve added years to life not life to years.

We’ve been all the way to the moon and back, but have trouble crossing the street to meet a new neighbor.

We conquered outer space but not inner space.

We’ve done larger things, but not better things.

These are the times of fast foods and slow digestion; big men and small character; steep profits and shallow relationships.

These are the days of two incomes but more divorce; fancier houses but broken homes.

These are days of quick trips, disposable diapers, throwaway morality, one night stands, overweight bodies, and pills that do everything from cheer, to quiet, to kill.

It is a time when there is much in the showroom window and nothing in the stockroom.
