Baby B entered the world a few weeks earlier than expected which certainly sent mum and dad into a little spin but after his safe arrival he has continued to grow and thrive and is settling into his new little family beautifully. At the session he was not super keen to sleep soundly for the photos and was a little out of sorts from his usual calm self so we spent alot of time trying to make him comfortable and content. In the end our hard work definitely paid off because there are lots of beautiful images that I know mum and dad will adore.

I originally met mum a few months ago when she came for a maternity session. She looked stunning in every image so I was so excited to see the family come back with their precious new baby B. He was a total dream to photograph and just another reminder of why I absolutely love newborn photography…sigh so precious. Big brother didn’t want a bar of any photos at this session and who can blame him, there was lots of things for him to explore and play with and who wants to hang out with a boring old photographer anyway haha. I wasn’t too worried about it though because I know mum has plans to come back in 6 months or so when bub is older. He won’t be able to escape me then though haha. For now, this session was all about capturing baby B’s tiny newness and I think these images will be treasured always…

It’s always such a special treat when I get to photograph newborn twins – twice the cuteness right. These little bundles of gorgeous were only 9 days old which was extra exciting because usually twins don’t get to the studio so young so I was thrilled. They were absolutely perfectly sleepy and snuggly for me and I was able to capture them in their precious newness.

Big brother A also came along and he was hilarious. Such alot of fun and that hair and those eyes had me in photographer heaven. Gorgeous. I was totally impressed with how calm and relaxed mum was with it all. She totally is not fazed by having her hands so full and I admired her so very much.

This little fellow was such a delight. He had the most beautiful eyes and was such a round bundle of baby I just wanted to cuddle him all day. He was a little bit serious at times which I absolutely loved – I always adore the serious faces the most however he very kindly offered up some sweet smiles every now and then to keep mum and dad happy too.

I was supposed to meet this little guy quite a few months ago when he was born but he was off to a rocky start so mum postponed until now. I was so happy to finally get to meet him. For alot of the session he was quite serious but I did manage to snag a few cute smiles. He was a total sweetheart and I loved spending the morning with him and his mum.

I can only imagine that it takes a day or two to get over the surprise of finding out you are having twins. I can only imagine it takes another day or two to get over the surprise that it is going to be two energetic boys…

But after those first few days, I can only imagine the joy that fills your heart knowing you are going to be so privileged as to raise two precious baby boys born at the same time. What an absolute gift!

These lovely parents are over the moon to be raising their little men and are so super organised and on top of things you know that it’s going to be a wonderful life for them all.

These twin boys could not be more different from each other and that uniqueness was the thing I loved about them most. Enjoy this little preview D & T…

I’m really excited to share this business spotlight with you all. I am so completely in love with the beautiful baby products this online boutique stocks and I know all of you will love them too. I know how my blog readers love unique and beautiful clothing and accessories for their children so I feel sure everyone is going to fall in love with everything on the Millie Abroad Website, and PS. So tell us a little bit about “Millie Abroad” for those readers not familiar with it yet:-

Millie Abroad is an online boutique that offers girls clothing that isn’t available or readily available in Australia. It is only small (at the moment) but it showcases beautiful clothing from around the globe, and each item has been lovingly hand selected. I am particularly interested in sourcing clothing (and other items) that feature beautiful fabrics and design and are finished to a very high standard – items with the real ‘wow’ factor.

When did you get started, what was your inspiration?

I have wanted to open a shop for a long time. For a while it was a bookshop come art gallery and then a vintage clothing store and then a store showcasing beautiful handmade items (a result of my obsession with Etsy!). But instead, in 2011 Millie Abroad was born. Interestingly I think Millie Abroad is a bit of all of the other dreams. I see many of these clothes and toys as pieces of art and many of them have that nostalgic feel of the 30’s, 40’s or 50’s. Oh, and I sell books!

The inspiration for Millie Abroad came from my daughter Amelia and my enjoyment in hunting for beautiful clothing for her (even before she was born). I found that shopping locally I could find plenty of beautiful items, but I could find them in every store in town (and every store in every other town too). I wanted something unique – something as special as my little girl. Perhaps I just didn’t want all of that hunting to go to waste! I wanted to share my discoveries and now I get to do that.

What types of products are available?

Millie Abroad offers clothing, toys and accessories for girls from birth to 5 years (but we hope to expand this as the business grows). As we are just starting out, we only have a small, but growing collection. A few of my favourite pieces at the moment would have to be the handmade Severina Kids dolls, the vintage inspired ‘Molly’ dress by Olive’s Friend Pop, and the ‘Luna’ shoes by Joyfolie. (Although now that I say that I feel a little guilty… it’s like trying to pick a favourite child!)

What is your favourite thing about your job?

The hunting! Definitely the hunting. I love discovering new things. There are so many creative people out there making all sorts of really beautiful things that you would never find unless you went searching. The hard part is being selective about which one’s to include in Millie Abroad. Hopefully the business will grow to a point where I can include all of them. (I can dream can’t I?)

It’s also exciting to be able to offer new things to Australian customers. As an example, we are currently the only Australian stockists for the Scandinavian label Pale Cloud. They have been making a real splash throughout the rest of the world and are definitely worth checking out.

How big is your company in terms of employees?

Just myself and my husband. Nice and small.

Do you have a family?

I do. I have a lovely little family. There is my fabulously supportive husband Adam and my very happy little girl Amelia. Then there are the two crazy dogs and a cat that just can’t get enough cuddle time.

What are some of your favourite things to do with your family?

I love just hanging out on the lounge room floor or on the grass at the park while Amelia (who is only 1) crawls all over us like we are little mountains. She laughs, occasionally stops to give us a hug or a kiss and occasionally topples off (much to her delight). We also enjoy going for walks, which is just as well given that Amelia often needs a walk to try to get her to sleep.

What’s your favourite ‘indulgence’ that is just for you? Recently it has tended to be chocolate (and I have certainly paid for that over the Christmas period!) But generally I really enjoy settling into the couch at the end of the day when Amelia has gone to bed, and browsing the internet for beautiful children’s clothing. It often sees me hopping from one blog to another, one website to the next. It’s the combination of the quiet time and the new discoveries. I have an incredibly long list of bookmarks on my computer of things I have fallen in love with.

Awwwww, isn’t precious little A the cutest thing. She looks so sweet and peaceful in these images. She was my first session back after Christmas and it was an amazing way to begin the year. Let’s hope each and every session this year is as lovely as this. Dad was a total character, funny funny funny and mum was absolutely lovely.

What a handsome little addition to this family baby J was. So precious and content and with the most amazing head of hair. And cheeky big sister A, her smiley face was pure joy for a photographer. 2011…What a year | canberra baby photographer

Whew, it’s amazing to me that 2011 has come to a close. It truly seems like the quickest year I have ever experienced. It was a year filled with highs and only a few lows for the Kelly’s. The kids outdid themselves at school, I am so ridiculously proud of them. They achieved wonderful things in their sports, they enjoyed their friends and most importantly – they brought us much joy (and a few frustrations of course lol). The Singing Chef has gone from success to success in his career, working harder than ever and loving it as much as ever. My business has grown and grown and for that I am exceptionally grateful. So many new and past families entrusting me to capture magical moments in their lives. My cup runneth over really. What a wonderful way to spend my working life!

The best thing about 2011 hands down – we have made major decisions about what is important in our life and for our family, what genuinely matters to us and brings us true happiness which for me has been the biggest gift to come out of 2011. An epiphany of sorts you might call it…for this revelation, our family is truly grateful. We hope to continue to follow what makes us happy in 2012, and kick it up a notch.

My New Years Resolution and my wish to you all is very simple, it’s the 3 H’s…
