Leading Conservatives Including Bill Kristol Launch Pro-Israel Group: First National TV Ad Campaign Targets Joe Sestak Over His Support For CAIR…

(Politico)- Leading conservatives will launch a new pro-Israel group this week with a scathing attack on Rep. Joe Sestak, the Democratic Senate candidate in Pennsylvania, the first shot in what they say will be a confrontational campaign against the Obama administration’s Mideast policy and the Democrats who support it.

The Emergency Committee for Israel’s leadership unites two major strands of support for the Jewish state: The hawkish, neoconservative wing of the Republican Party, many of whom are Jewish, and conservative Evangelical Christians who have become increasingly outspoken in their support for Israel. The new group’s board includes Weekly Standard Editor William Kristol and Gary Bauer, the former Republican presidential candidate who leads the group American Values, as well as Rachel Abrams, a conservative writer and activist.

“We’re the pro-Israel wing of the pro-Israel community,” said Kristol.

The new committee declined to disclose its funding — as a 501(c)(4) advocacy organization, it isn’t required to — but said it had raised enough to air its first ad, starting this week, on Fox and CNN and during a Philadelphia Phillies game. The ad attacks Sestak for signing a letter criticizing Israel’s blockade of Gaza while not signing a defense of Israel circulated by the American Israel Public Affairs Committee and for appearing at a fundraiser for the Council on American Islamic Relations, which it describes as an “anti-Israel organization the FBI called a ‘front group for Hamas.’”

CAIR denied the 2008 allegation, and no charges were ever brought against it.

On this 4th of July, I can’t think of anything America needs to hear more than a warning President Ronald Reagan gave in his Farewell Address in January 1989. Listen to the video above to hear what he shared with America toward the end of his speech. Reagan turned his attention to what he said he was particularly proud of during his Presidency – a renewal of patriotism and the American Spirit.

Reagan also gave a warning, that unless Americans taught each new generation what it means to be an American, we risk losing our memory as a nation – and along with it – the American spirit. Reagan’s words ring so true today. Instead of teaching that America is an exceptional nation that has been the greatest force for good in the history of the world – our schools, universities, media, and even political leaders more often focus only on the perceived failures in American History. What Reagan warned against has happened to a great extent – America has lost her memory, and with it, our commitment to the principles that have made America the greatest nation on earth.

Ronald Reagan would be saddened to see what has happened to our nation, but he would not be a pessimist. Neither should we be. We must do all we can to restore the memory of our nation and with it, America’s spirit. America is still that “shining city on a hill” that Reagan spoke of, a nation that has freed tens of millions of people from tyranny this decade! Let us heed Reagan’s call and his warning, and do our part to tell the truth about America.

King Abdullah of Saudi Arabian was welcomed to his first Oval Office meeting with US President Barack Obama Tuesday, with Iran, the Israeli-Palestinian peace process and energy at the top of the agenda.

Obama told reporters of their shared desire to see Palestinians and Israelis "living side by side" in peace, a point discussed at length over their working lunch. Abdullah expressed his continued support for the Arab Peace Initiative for solving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict at the meeting. Pakistan, Afghanistan and Iraq were also addressed. Obama said that the two countries would continue to "work together towards combating violent extremism."

Smokin Joe ordered a custard at a popular custard stand in Glendale during one of their stops. When Biden asked Kopp’s Frozen Custard stand owner how much he owed him, the owner responded,

“Nothing, just lower our taxes.”

Fat chance.
An embarrassed Joe Biden ignored him and walked away.

Obama Picks Vocal Critic of Immigration Enforcement for Key Role at ICE…

I’m shocked! No, not really…

(Fox News)- The Obama administration has tapped an outspoken critic of immigration enforcement on the local level to oversee and promote partnerships between federal and local officials.

Harold Hurtt, a former police chief in Houston and Phoenix, has been hired as the director for the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Office of State and Local Coordination. Starting July 6, Hurtt will supervise outreach and communication between ICE, local law enforcement agencies, tribal leaders and representatives from non-governmental organizations.

But as a police chief, Hurtt was a supporter of “sanctuary city” policies, by which illegal immigrants who don’t commit crimes can live without fear of exposure or detainment because police don’t check for immigration papers.

He also, during his tenure as Houston police chief, criticized ICE’s key program that draws on local law enforcement’s support.

“There’s no way you can head up an office if you don’t believe in what the office is supposed to do,” Curtis Collier of U.S. Border Watch, told the Houston Chronicle. “Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s primary mission is to protect the American people. If this guy believes any of these programs should not be enforced, he’s certainly going to be a very weak advocate for them.”

Hurtt’s position at ICE reportedly pays $180,000 a year.

President Obama announced Wednesday that he has accepted Gen. Stanley McChrystal's resignation as the commander of U.S. forces in Afghanistan following a scathing article in which McChrystal and his aides were quoted criticizing the administration for its handling of the war.

In doing so, Obama nominated Gen. David Petraeus, the head of U.S. Central Command and the former commanding general in Iraq, to replace him. The president stressed that while the decision was a difficult one, it does not represent a change in the course of the war.

"This is a change in personnel, but it is not a change in policy," Obama said in the Rose Garden, Petraeus by his side and McChrystal nowhere to be seen.

The president praised McChrystal, saying he always showed "great courtesy" and carried out his orders "faithfully," and that they were on the same page in terms of war strategy. He said the decision to accept the general's resignation was not based on "personal insult," but a desire to ensure there is no "diversion" to the mission. Obama said the conduct described in the article "does not meet the standard that should be set by a commanding general," which led him to his decision.

"I did so with considerable regret, but also with certainty that it is the right thing for our mission in Afghanistan, for our military and for our country," Obama said. "War is bigger than any one man or woman, whether a private, a general or a president."

I have no words to express the disgust I feel for this man; this 'leader' in bringing Sharia law and Islam to the US. Rauf specializes in blaming the US for 9-11, as you will read here. Born in Kuwait in 1948, Feisal Abdul Rauf is the Imam of Masjid al-Farah, a New York City mosque. He holds a bachelor's degree in physics from Columbia University. His father was the late Muhammad Abdul Rauf

In 1990 Feisal Abdul Rauf opened al-Farah Mosque in lower Manhattan. Seven years later, he established the American Society for Muslim Advancement (ASMA), a New-York based nonprofit organization which has been run by Rauf's wife, Daisy Khan, since 2005.

Rauf is a permanent trustee of an Islamic Cultural Center (ICC) which his father founded in New York City. Until September 28, 2001 -- seventeen days after 9/11 -- the ICC employed Imam Sheik Muhammad Gemeaha, who later said that “only the Jews” could have perpetrated the 9/11 attacks; that if Americans only knew about this Jewish culpability, “they would have done to Jews what Hitler did”; and that Jews “disseminate corruption in the land” and spread “heresy, homosexuality, alcoholism, and drugs.” Gemeaha’s successor at the ICC, Omar Saleem Abu-Namous, said there was no “conclusive evidence” proving that Muslims were responsible for 9/11.

In a 60 Minutes interview that aired on September 30, 2001, Rauf said that the 9/11 attacks were part of a larger Islamic “reaction against the U.S. government politically, where we [the U.S.] espouse principles of democracy and human rights, and [yet] where we ally ourselves with oppressive regimes in many of these countries.” "I wouldn't say that the United States deserved what happened," Rauf elaborated, "but United States policies were an accessory to the crime that happened." Rauf further stated that “because we [Americans] have been accessory to a lot of innocent lives dying in the world,” it could be said that “[i]n fact, in the most direct sense, Osama bin Laden is made in the USA.”

Abdul Gheit said he had a one-on-one meeting with Obama, where the US President told him that He was still a Muslim, the son of a Muslim father, the step son of Muslim stepfather, that his half brothers in Kenya are Muslims, and that he was sympathetic towards the Muslim agenda.
Adul Gheit claimed Obama told the Arabs to show patience. Obama promised that once he overcame some domestic issues, like the Health care reform, he would show the Muslim World how to deal with Israel.

-- Republicans scored a midterm election victory Saturday when Honolulu City Councilman Charles Djou won a Democratic-held House seat in Hawaii in the district where President Obama grew up -- the latest triumph for the GOP as it looks to take back control of Congress.

Djou's victory was a blow to Obama and other Democrats who could not rally around a candidate and find away to win a congressional race that should have been a cakewalk. The seat had been held by a Democrat for nearly 20 years and is located in the district where Obama was born and spent most of his childhood.

"This is a momentous day. We have sent a message to the United States Congress. We have sent a message to the national Democrats. We have sent a message to the machine," Djou said. "The congressional seat is not owned by one political party. This congressional seat is owned by the people."

Djou received 67,274 votes, or 39.5 percent. He was trailed by state Senate President Colleen Hanabusa, a Democrat who received 52,445 votes, or 30.8 percent. The other leading Democrat, former U.S. Rep. Ed Case, received 47,012 votes, or 27.6 percent.

Republicans see the victory as a powerful statement about their momentum heading into November. They already sent a Republican to the U.S. Senate to replace the late Sen. Edward M. Kennedy of Massachusetts -- a place that was once thought to be the most hostile of territories for the GOP. Now Republicans can say they won a congressional seat in the former backyard of the president and in a state that gave Obama 72 percent of the vote two years ago.

Michael Jackson’s doctor leaped to the rescue and possibly saved a life Saturday when a female airline passenger fainted at 30,000 feet and needed urgent medical attention, TMZ reported.

The entertainment website said Dr. Conrad Murray was aboard a US Airways flight from Houston to Phoenix when a flight attendant asked on the loudspeaker if there was a doctor on board.

Murray jumped out of his seat, according to TMZ sources, and evaluated the woman, who was in her 20s and had “a very weak pulse.”

He inserted an IV and stabilized her until the flight could make an emergency landing in Albuquerque, N.M., TMZ said.

The website, which said it later spoke with the unidentified woman, said she reported feeling lightheaded and then fainted for about 30 minutes.

When she regained consciousness, Murray was standing over her and said, "You probably know me ... I was Michael Jackson's doctor."

I couldn't resist posting this. And I'm guessing this was a total set-up. But really, if it wasn't and this woman was coming to, would she really know who this guy is?

Knowing what laws and regulations govern the issue of religious accommodation is crucial before attempting to reach the right authorities. It is also important to understand what is defined as a "reasonable limit" on religious freedom.

In the United States, one of the strongest arguments in favor of seeking religious accommodation for your child is former President Bill Clinton's 1995 statement of principles addressing the extent to which religious expression and activity are permitted in public school. This was given to every school district in the US.

Get the help of other officials if necessary to properly understand these laws. A good place to check with is The Freedom Forum First Amendment Center. They have produced a booklet entitled A Parent's Guide to Religion in the Public Schools. You can call them at (615) 321-9588.

Step #2: get the support of a teacher

"[The first thing I would do is] arm myself with that piece of information and then set up a meeting with the principal of the school along with one of my favorite teachers at the school who will be very supportive, requesting that my son or daughter should be either permitted to [for example] go out to perform Juma prayer at a local Masjid and/or be allowed to perform Juma prayer along with other Muslim students on the school campus," says Mansuri.

Getting the support of a teacher is crucial. It indicates to the principal that the religious accommodation you are seeking will not interfere with your child's performance as a student.

Mansuri says that in most cases, these two steps are all that are needed to get
religious accommodation from your child's school.

However, if the principal refuses to grant the accommodation, step three will be necessary.

Step #3: leave a paper trail, but first, be really nice

"If you find the meeting is not going anywhere then leave a paper trail, meaning, write letters. But before I do that, I would try to do it in a very non-confrontational way by simply sitting down with the principal and a teacher," says Mansuri.

"Try to understand this process where I want to make sure this is not us versus them, but simply the notion of my exercising my constitutional rights in the most respected [way] with compassionate manners, leaving my ‘baseball bat'," he explains, referring to an approach that is harsh and confrontational.

Mansuri even suggests inviting the teacher and principal over for dinner as a gesture of goodwill.

Step #4: writing to the supportive teacher

"My first letter would be to my kid's favorite teacher to ask the person's advice," advises Mansuri. "The letter will be to request to meet with teacher, and it will indicate I want to discuss with you my child's religious needs and I would like to share with you what our president has instructed the teachers and schools to accommodate them." Following the meeting, a thank you letter to the teacher should be sent. It will also indicate you would like to set up second meeting with the school's principal, and ask the teacher if s/he would be kind enough to go with you to discuss the topics the two of you talked about in your first meeting (see a sample thank you letter to the teacher).

"This will leave two or three letters," notes Mansuri, but in each letter "the tone of my letter should be my bringing the information as politely as I can. (I am trying to) maintain my rights for the schools to accommodate my child's religious needs. So it's a non-threatening letter."

Step #5: meeting a second time with the principal

Before attending this second meeting with the principal and teacher, "I would also arm myself with the district's education code along with the state educational code as it relates to the topics that I'm going to discuss," says Mansuri.

This can be done by simply calling your district and the state office and asking them to give you the specific educational code that relates to the religious obligation you are seeking accommodation for. That office would fax you the information the same or next day.

Once again, Mansuri stresses that the approach in discussing the matter a second time with the principal should not be confrontational.

"While meeting with the teacher and/or principal, I'm not trying to win an argument by telling them how much I know but rather giving them a very clear understanding that while I understand my rights as a parent, I'm simply there to help them accommodate my child's needs that they are supposed to do anyway," explains Mansuri.

"Make it a win-win situation, not an us versus them situation, and that in itself is the message of Islam."

By this step, Mansuri says your child should have his/her need(s) accommodated.

Step #6: if necessary, repeat these steps with the school district’s superintendent

You can repeat the letters and meet with the school district superintendent if the principal still does not accommodate. The superintendent is responsible for all schools in a particular district. Once again, the approach must remain polite and non-confrontational.

Since the president's instructions were issued to districts, it is possible superintendents may be more familiar with them. This should mean your son or daughter will get religious accommodation with no further problems.

U.S. citizen from Pakistan arrested in Times Square bomb case

A 30-year-old American immigrant from Pakistan was escorted off a plane bound for Dubai late Monday at John F. Kennedy International Airport and arrested in connection with a failed attempt to detonate a car bomb in Times Square, Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. announced.

Authorities said Faisal Shahzad of Shelton, Conn., had paid cash for a Nissan Pathfinder that was found packed with explosives Saturday night on a tourist-crowded block in Midtown Manhattan. The vehicle was set ablaze but failed to detonate.

Officials located Shahzad after a sweeping two-day investigation that yielded what senior Obama administration officials described as a flood of international and domestic clues suggesting a plot involving more than one person. It was not immediately clear whether there was any link between Fahzad and videotapes that police circulated widely on Monday, showing men near the site of the attempted bombing who may have been acting suspiciously.

A U.S. official said tracing the origin of the Pathfinder was a crucial part of the investigation. Shahzad bought the vehicle through an Internet listing. He gave the seller a fake name, but an e-mail from the transaction included a phone number that was from a disposable cellphone. Extrapolating from telephone records, authorities found Shahzad and confirmed his identity with the seller, the official said.

Shahzad was apprehended aboard Emirates Flight 202. A spokesman for the United Arab Emirates embassy in Washington said Shahzad had planned to change planes in Dubai and fly to Islamabad. Shahzad been in Pakistan for several months in 2009, returning in February 2010, the official said.

"It was clear that the intent behind this terrorist act was to kill Americans," Holder said at a rare middle-of-the-night news conference at the Justice Department to announce the arrest.

Federal investigators said early Tuesday that they had executed a search warrant on Shahzad's home. Television news reports showed agents entering and leaving at least one home in the Bridgeport area.

In Pakistan, a news report on an English-language station said Shahzad has family links to the southern port city of Karachi. Pakistani officials said U.S. authorities have asked for their help investigating Shahzad, and they pledged cooperation.

The bomb attempt, which authorities said could have led to significant casualties if the explosives had detonated properly, bears some resemblance to the attempted bombing of an airliner in Detroit last Christmas, with citizen watchdogs earning much of the credit for averting the crisis and the White House scrambling to discover clues about a young male suspect with apparent ties that stretched beyond the United States.

The 48 hours from the discovery of the Pathfinder to Shahzad's capture combined old-fashioned shoe-leather detective work, sophisticated digging through telephone and electronic records and the latest link-ups between federal immigration, travel and border databases.

Authorities became aware of Shahzad's identity largely though researching the sale of the Pathfinder and tracing an e-mail account and disposable cell phone that he used. Armed with information about Shahzad's appearance, other identification information and his travel patterns, Customs and Border Protection officers at John F. Kennedy International Airport discovered he was aboard the Emirates flight Monday night. Authorities declined to say if he was traveling under his own name.

About the time Shahzad would have checked in for the scheduled 11:50 p.m. international departure, authorities began gearing up for a late-night arrest. It was only after Shahzad cleared airport security, boarded the flight, took his seat -- and perhaps took comfort in the thought he was leaving the country -- that agents confronted him and took him into custody.

Lid With Lid: As the National Security Adviser, General James Jones is not known as a friend of the Jewish State. It was Jones who put together the team of Brent Scowcroft and Zbigniew Brzezinski to meet with the President and advise him to impose a solution on Israel.

Earlier this week we may have gotten some insight into why Jones is not a fan of the Jewish Homeland. He was giving the key note speech at a Washington Institute For Near East Policy and started it out with a “Joke” that borders on anti-Semitic, teaching the crowd that Jews are just greedy merchants in the same vein as Shakespeare’s Shylock:

A Taliban militant gets lost and is wandering around the desert looking for water. He finally arrives at a store run by a Jew and asks for water. The Jewish vendor tells him he doesn’t have any water but can gladly sell him a tie. The Taliban, the jokes goes on, begins to curse and yell at the Jewish storeowner. The Jew, unmoved, offers the rude militant an idea: Beyond the hill, there is a restaurant; they can sell you water. The Taliban keeps cursing and finally leaves toward the hill. An hour later he’s back at the tie store. He walks in and tells the merchant: “Your brother tells me I need a tie to get into the restaurant.”

After the speech, two participants suggested, in private conversations with the Forward, that Jones’ joke might have been inappropriate. After all, making jokes about greedy Jewish merchants can be seen at times as insensitive.

A prominent think-tank source who attended the event said the joke was “wrong in so many levels” and that it “demonstrated a lack of sensitivity.” The source also asked: “Can you imagine him telling a black joke at an event of African Americans?”

Was the Joke Anti-Semitic? Well, the White House must have thought so. The White House transcript sent to reporters after the event conveniently began a couple of minutes into the speech. The video of the event posted on the Washington Institute Web site started right after the Joke, you can even hear the end of the laughter.

Its interesting that the same President that sees racism in the legitimate actions of the Cambridge Police and the State of Arizona, hides the anti-Semitic prose of its National Security Adviser.

At the ceremony, after the national anthems of both countries were played, the two presidents reviewed the guard of honor.

Mugabe heading a high-ranking delegation arrived in Tehran on Sunday night. Upon landing at Mehrabad International Airport, the Zimbabwean delegation was welcomed by the Minister of Cooperatives Mohammad Abbassi.

Zimbabwe's ministers of foreign affairs, energy and agriculture had arrived in Tehran earlier.

Iran has struck a secret deal with Zimbabwe to mine its untapped uranium reserves in a move to secure raw material for its steadily expanding nuclear program, a British newspaper claimed.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad made a visit to Zimbabwe on Thursday. He signed several bilateral cooperation agreements. Iranian President held talks with Zimbabwe's President Robert Mugabe. Zimbabwean state media said Ahmadinejad's visit was part of a drive to boost ties between the two nations at odds with the West.

The agreement was sealed last month during a visit to Tehran by a close aide to Robert Mugabe, the Zimbabwean president, The Sunday Telegraph has learned.

In return for supplying oil, which Zimbabwe desperately needs to keep its faltering economy moving, Iran has been promised access to potentially huge deposits of uranium ore.

“Iran secured the exclusive uranium rights last month when minister of state for presidential affairs, Didymus Mutasa visited Tehran,” said a Zimbabwean government source. “That is when the formal signing of the deal was made, away from the glare of the media.”

Mr. Mutasa is the former lands minister in the Zanu-PF administration and one of Mr. Mugabe's most senior aides.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Nearly 4 million Americans – the vast majority of them middle class – will have to pay the new penalty for not getting health insurance when President Barack Obama’s health care overhaul law kicks in, according to congressional estimates released Thursday.

The penalties will average a little more than $1,000 apiece in 2016, the Congressional Budget Office said in a report.

Most of the people paying the fine will be middle class. Obama pledged in 2008 not to raise taxes on individuals making less than $200,000 a year and couples making less than $250,000.
"The individual mandate tax will fall hardest on Americans who can least afford to pay it, many of whom were promised subsidies by the Democrats and who the president has promised would not pay higher taxes," said Rep. Dave Camp of Michigan, the top Republican on the tax-writing House Ways and Means Committee.

Clark said the biggest lesson his father taught him over the years was "how to be a good person."

Many of the hundreds who gathered on the sand at Surfside beach on Sunday would have said Steve Adler was a great example of a good person, a mellow surfer with easygoing ways who always had a smile on his face.

The surfing and SUP community said goodbye to one of their own during a traditional paddle-out ceremony, with more than 350 people who sat or stood on boards offshore, held hands and splashed as memories were shared.

Steve Adler suffered an aneurysm in a vessel near his heart on March 11. He was 40.

(Steve was our friend and neighbor and a most tender-hearted and devoted father. We will miss him always.)

Nearly a year after President Barack Obama’s historic speech in Cairo announcing that America wanted a “new beginning” with the Muslim world, evidence of that policy shift has, in recent weeks, become hard to ignore.

The Obama administration is revising national security guidelines that strip references to “Islamic radicalism” and other terms deemed inflammatory to Muslims. Officials also reversed 3-month-old guidelines that singled out passengers on flights arriving from 13 Muslim countries, and Cuba, for mandatory screening.

Controversial scholar Tariq Ramadan entered the United States for the first time in six years after being barred by the Bush administration, and the Obama administration has dispatched American Nobel Prize winners to advise Muslims scientists, economists and other professionals on how to improve their research and better manage their institutions. At month’s end, the U.S. government will play host to some 500 mainly Muslim business people for intensive seminars on entrepreneurship.

“There’s a lot going on but not a lot being told,” said Qamar ul-Huda, a senior officer at the Religion and Peacemaking Program at the United States Institute for Peace, an independent nonpartisan institute chartered by Congress. “Many Muslims are not aware of what’s happening, and that needs to be addressed.”

Three children and an adult were killed early this morning in Chicago’s Marquette Park neighborhood, and a relative from Madison, Wis., whom police believe was the shooter was later taken into custody.

Sources said the shooter told police “Allah” had told him to kill his family.

The dead included a woman believed to be the pregnant wife of the shooter; 16-year-old Keyshai Fields, who was four months pregnant; a 3-year-old girl named Keleasha Larry; and a 7-month-old boy who was the shooter's son, according to law enforcement officials and family members.

Family members said the dead 7-month-old was named Jihad. (But I'm sure their religion had NOTHING to do with the murders. Besides, Obama says we must 'respect' it!)

My son is taking a class at school about Genocide. They have thus far covered Darfur, The Holocaust, and the Armenian genocide. As you may have guessed, he is not attending a public school. I do wish they offered a class on genocide in the public schools but I understand, history is not exactly valued in the public schools anymore. Unless perhaps, they offer a class on the history of Global Warming Climate Change. But I digress. The students read a book written by a survivor of the holocaust. His name is Isidore Nussenbaum and his book is titled, He Isn't Coming Here Anymore. Mr. Nussenbaum settled in California and so he comes every year to my son's school to talk about his book, Poland, which is where he is from and the holocaust. I attended class when he spoke to the kids, this year. Izzy, as those who know him call him, is an articulate, witty, and sensitive man who has lived with memories that torture him, to this day. Izzy told of the occasion of the last time he saw his mother. His mother and sister had been separated from Izzy and his brother in the concentration camp. When he happened to see her in the yard once, he and his brother raced towards her. The guards yelled at them and gave chase. When Izzy reached his mother, they embraced and she quickly gave him a crust of bread she'd been hiding, for Izzy to share with his brother. When the guard reached them, the guard beat his mother, brutally, as the children wept and pleaded for him to stop. As Izzy re-told the story, his eyes tearing up, voice quivering, his grief and feelings of guilt, were palpable. "I never saw her again," he said in a quiet voice. How can one conceive of such cruelty? Soon, there will be no more survivors to tell their own stories; so we must. In their memory, in the memory of all those whose lives were extinguished.

The U.N. is spending over $10 million to house some of its Haiti relief workers on a pair of chartered cruise ships -- one of which has been dubbed the "Love Boat" by U.N. staff -- and some of the funds are going to a company closely linked to the government of Venezuelan strongman Hugo Chavez.

For the United Nations World Food Program, it was a moment of satisfaction: the U.N.'s flagship relief agency announced on its Web site on March 19 that two gleaming passenger ships had docked in ravaged Port au Prince harbor.

The VAT would be the death nail on the American economy. This should scare the crap out of everyone...

(Reuters) - The United States should consider raising taxes to help bring deficits under control and may need to consider a European-style value-added tax, White House adviser Paul Volcker said on Tuesday.

Volcker, answering a question from the audience at a New York Historical Society event, said the value-added tax "was not as toxic an idea" as it has been in the past and also said a carbon or other energy-related tax may become necessary.

Though he acknowledged that both were still unpopular ideas, he said getting entitlement costs and the U.S. budget deficit under control may require such moves. "If at the end of the day we need to raise taxes, we should raise taxes," he said.

“I don’t know why your surprised. It’s only nine times longer than the Gettysburg Address. And, after all Lincoln was answering an easier question on the higher purpose of the union and soldiers that fall in battle. Look the president had an easy answer. He could have said, “Hey I wanted to make history with health care and to do it and to make the CBO numbers look OK I had to raise your taxes. Sure it’s not a good time economically in the middle of a recession but politically I had to because I have a window a majority in Congress and I’m going to lose in November.” End of answer.”
