When you're passed up for a position you applied for, it's easy to think you weren't chosen because of a factor like your age. In reality, that sort of thing matters very little. There are, however, several risk factors that could cause an employer to pass you up for another candidate. Chrome has implemented a built-in print dialog that, by default, gives you a preview of your print job in a new tab and handles all of your printing needs without going through your operating system's default print dialog. It's a nice feature when it works, but in practice, the preview crashes—a lot—and when it does, the Print button is disabled. Here's how to work around Chrome's crashy print dialog so you can still get your print on when necessary. More »

Developer and consultant Shenglong Gao has, like the rest of us, spent a lot of time dealing with email, text messages, and phone calls—so much so that he's gotten a little obsessive about it. The result is the 2-2-2 rule, which imposes a strict time-to-reply on each type of communication: Gao picks up calls in within two seconds, answers texts within two minutes, and responds to email within two hours. More »

Everyone's moving toward a paperless society—from paperless bank statements and bills to electronic Social Security checks. The digital revolution is undoubtedly friendlier for trees, electronic files are much easier to find and back up, and everyone saves on printing and mailing costs. However, there's always some paperwork you can't help getting in dead tree form. And some dinosaurs—like me—occasionally work best with paper. Here's how I've found a happy compromise for my physical and electronic filing needs, and perhaps how you might too. More »

Going by the number of calendar alternatives in the iTunes App Store, nobody seems to be satisfied with the built-in calendar on the iPhone. Plenty of people have tried to create the best replacements, but we think Week Calendar is best suited for the job as it combines the best features of a desktop calendar with the best parts of the mobile experience. More »

The three-finger trackpad swipe gesture in Snow Leopard will navigate in Finder and Safari, but Apple has changed the gesture's default behavior in Lion to switch between spaces instead. If you want to temporarily restore the Snow Leopard behavior simply hold the Option key while performing the gesture, or you can change the default behavior back in the trackpad settings of System Preferences. More »

Your iPhone's autocorrect feature isn't always perfect, sometimes to the point of humor, but it can be very useful. This is especially true when typing contractions, as your iPhone will take care of the apostrophe for you. The problem is, it doesn't work with words like we'll because well is a correctly spelled word. The solution? Make a purposeful typo. More »

iOS: When Apple added AirPrint, it was a nice feature in theory but didn't really support many printers and certainly no support for PDF printing. While there are workarounds, if you want to save content on your iPhone to a PDF file with just a few taps, Print to PDF is the best app for the job. More »
