The Christmas Krampus

You might ask what the heck is a Krampus.

Well so did I!

I saw a TV ad for the movie Krampus.

Yeah, ^ That one.

Which of course with my mind that has to research anything I don't know..now we all will know who he is. With my German/Irish heritage I have never heard of him.

The Krampus is the very antithesis of St. Nicholas—he is the ill-tempered, unsettlingly ugly symbol of Germanic Christmas tradition who lends slightly more urgent emphasis to the warning “You better watch out.”

His name may derive from the word Kralle, claw, or perhaps from the Bavarian krampn meaning “lifeless, dried-out, gone-to-seed or withered”. In Tyrol, he is more straight-forwardly named Tuifl—Teufel—the devil. According to legend, each year on the 5th of December (Krampusnacht: the night of the Krampus) he emerges from his hellhole to wander Alpine towns and dole out wicked punishment to poorly-behaved children.

Way to scare the crap out of your kids to be good right?

He even came and still comes complete with candy in his shape and of course cards to keep kids and even adults on the straight path so he doesn't have to visit you!!!

OK, I so I have been trying make it easy for my family and friends to be able to comment here, on the site. I usually put a link on my FaceBook page. Some people do not want to have to sign up for Google or Google+ just to comment. And I understand that. So I thought about using Disqus, which is a plug in a lot of sites use but you still have to sign up for it.

Hey All!

As I was adding the cards on the last post, I ran across some really beautiful artwork in Christmas cards from Europe. It is such a different style from the USA. Most of them are from the 1920s as you will be able to tell from the hair styles, clothing etc. The ones that I found the most beautiful are from the late 1800s in the form of postcards with children as the models, of angels. Unfortunately, some have been colorized in modern ways. I do not care for it as, I just like to keep things that are classic vintage as they were originally created. That is just me.
If you find that I have put a card under the incorrect Country? Please forgive me, I used Google Translate. Blame them LOL.

Yaaaay!!!

Tis my favorite time of year!!

The weather, sweaters, boots, cups of hot chocolate..

And yes, the times of old, when people had manners, dressed for occasions, knew and celebrated with neighbors.

To me, it is really sad that people have allowed the negativity to ruin their Holidays.

Not me!

I will never allow my childish wonder and joy leave.

So lets get to it!

First of all, what do we do???

Why we start putting up our Christmas Decorations!

Let's pull out our beautiful table clothes and napkins. I adore these, if only I could find some in good condition.

OK! Now that we have that laid out, what is next? I am sure that some of you will remember a few of these. Oh how I wish my Mom had not thrown out our childhood decorations because they got divorced. How silly.

Hello,

I hope your day is going great. It is my Husband, Daughter me and the dogs today. I am getting over a bad cold, our daughter is sick with my cold. So it is a nice quiet day for us. Ol Tome Turkey is in the oven. I thought I would end this holiday by sharing some of the Vintage Magazine cover I have. As an artist myself, I adore the vintage mags as the artwork is just beautiful. We now have photos, computer graphics etc. In the past we had artist painting the covers. Some whom we may never know who the artist is, which is sad. Many whom we have loved for years. I will then share my vintage photos of family life as it was.

Well M'dears, tis getting close to the end of All Hallows Eve.

Did you get a chance to spookify your home?? Of course you did, I have faith in you. You should send me pictures so I can post them! I would you know.

Of course I still have many many Halloweenie fun to show but some will have to wait until next year. To clear out one of my files I am going to post what I had already set up and they are in no official order, not even in any time period. You will have to guess for yourself! Ha!

You will find mixes of family photos from people that somehow ended up on Pinterest and many sites LOL. Bless the internet...I guess? Anyway they were so cute I had to scoop a few up. Many remind me of growing up.

Vintage ads are one of my favorite things. Oy the ones I have found over the years, but as we are into the Holidays now I have included them, and some very cool pictures that the artists painted for the ads. Magazines, Books.

Yes, I cannot forget the Golden Age of Hollywood, so yes, yes, yes the ghouls and goulettes are here too!

Holiday Cards.

In the past, cards were always given out. For all occasions, as it would be rude to not too. Calling cards were left when visiting, all of this was just proper etiquette. 1800 to 1920's the Halloween card was a bountiful eyeful to behold. Very busy, so much beautiful artwork involved. They were basically little portraits. And the beliefs of the time was always included such as "at midnight a fair maiden can look in the mirror to see their one true love". Some of these are just plain creepy and then as we get closer to the new century they become sweeter, not as well, ghoulish. And the farther on in time they become less scary, less ornate in the artwork and more cute..

I was gone for about 10 days visiting friends in Georgia, so I am a bit behind here. Lets catch up!

Pin Up Girls, ah yes, what would anything vintage be without them? I have a series on Pin Up Girls coming later. How they started, the art of Pin Ups, the master artists well known etc. But for now we will stick with our Holiday theme. Every Holiday had Pin Ups. And Halloween is no different. Pin Ups were mostly started with a model. Then the artist would paint them into what ever setting that they wanted. This is a pretty famous pose that was used in many other Pin Ups, of course it was used with different settings by the same artist.

And it was very popular for celebrities, well known or those up and coming actresses to be used as models for holiday adds and yes those calendars that were hidden from view for the men to oogle at. LOL

I do love me some horror movies and I was a zombie fan before it was "cool."

1968 I was 8 years old so to young to see it. But I did in the early 70's on TV and that, that is were I found Zombies..

It is the first day of October, Welcome!

Halloween and Christmas are my favorite decorating Holidays.

Back in the day, Halloween costumes were hand made. Nothing was store bought. You always had your face covered as that was important in case you were called upon to give a trick. Most masks were handmade of paper mache, then painted. Costumes were what Mothers could hand stitch or just thrown together. Many of the masks were primitive looking as to the skill of the maker. But of course they started to become available through local Mom and Pop stores and then on to stores. What I have collected here, if you didn't have the background knowledge, they look pretty freaky. I can imagine pulling one of these out of an old family album and thinking..."Waaaaaaaa?" To be honest they are freaky looking LOL. But at the time? Hey they thought they were pretty darn cool. Enjoy.

Autumn Wishes...

Hello dear friends.

Welcome to Autumn, my favorite time of the year. Cooler weather, the colors of the trees changing, sweaters, boots and a feeling of slowing down and relaxing.

Of course now that we are living in the desert, it is a total change in what I think of as Autumn. I grew up in Seattle, Wa. Of course it is beautiful and green there, many different types of trees etc. The change of colors around me was so welcome. And calming. Of course with all of that beauty comes the rain that keeps it that way. Mark and I always talked about retiring away from a city. Of course our lives changed when he was injured in the Army and retirement came sooner than either of us expected. Mark grew up in Reno, NV. And we knew that we couldn't retire in Seattle, where we were last stationed when his injury happened. With a steele spine and other injuries, there was no way he could live there with the rain, cold and humidity. He needed a nice warm climate yet we didn't want to move to Reno, when this home came up on Operation Homefronts site, we put in for it. His parents lived here in Fallon, so we knew it well. I always loved this small town when we visited them. We are called the "Oasis of the Desert." Small, rural, friendly and an hour from Reno. We are not as "deserty" as you would think. We have many underground wells and rivers. So we do have trees etc. Not many "leafy" trees, though we have a few but mostly evergreen trees that have roots going deep down to the water lines. Of course you go out a few miles out of town and you are definitely in the desert!

So the color change that I have known is not as big here. The desert has its own beauty just different. We have many farms and ranches here. Cattle ranches, Farmers, farming different types of hay, alfalfa etc. Fruits and veggies too. So, watching throughout the year in the tilling, planting, burning of fields and all. As of now our hay has mostly been cut and you see big semi's taking it out of town. But the corn, pumpkins etc are still going strong and almost ready for Harvest.

Speaking of harvest, especially since living in a rural town, this is a busy time for Farmers. Yet, a closing down of the fields, getting ready for them to be fallow and resting for the rest of the year. The hay has been sold and also stocked up for the cows and horses, goats and llamas.

As this is my Vintage World looking for and always adding to my collections, Harvest, Fall or Autumn it is never been easy to find a lot. They tend to go straight into Halloween and Thanksgiving.

They are out there! I just had to search. OY, do I have a lot for those 2 Holidays LOL. So, lets get started on a Vintage Harvest, shall we?

Freaky Friday!!

Hello!

Welcome to Freaky Friday.

When I am bored I usually hit the internet looking for "fun stuff." Which can include anything. The one thing that I was looking for were some Vintage Childrens photos on life in the 1800's for children. That will come later, I usually enter a few key words and I started seeing some silly photos pop up that made me laugh. You usually think of photo's from this time period as being very stoic and straight faced looking at the camera. One reason for these photos is that it took a few minutes for a photo to be taken. The photographer would take the cover off the lens while the people would have to hold very still for a bit of time, then he would cover the lens again. No fast "click" that we had later on and today's cameras. "Don't move!" Was the key words.

So as I came across a few silly ones, it shows that people were still people back then. They were silly and as goofy as we can be today. We just assume that because of the photos we see that is how people were back in time. It also lead to silly pictures of era's other than just the 1800's. Well, I am here to let you know....There are some really goofy, explainable photos that were taken that has lead up to Freaky Friday.

Manic Mondays and School Time!

Hello!

Here in little ol Fallon, NV our kids have been back in school for a week or 2. How long has yours been back? It is so different in every State and my friends have been posting the "First Day of School Photos for about 3 weeks now.

My kids are grown and another year I looked back on school shopping and things needed. Or even when I was young, then it was only clothes shopping the things parents have to buy for their kids now is mind blowing. Of course I will be 55 in November and I look back at my School Days? Since I was born in 1960 I remember things from the 50's still used in grade school, 60's and 70's books. Phonics was just how we were taught, not memorizing like my kids did in the 80's. My math was changed to "New Math" for my kids and now my Grandson will be taught Common Core. Have you looked at that stuff?? Aint nuthin "common" about that stuff. LOL

And we can't forget the fun booklets and notices that were always there to teach us about life...

Poor John...I feel ya hon. I remember in the 3rd grade getting my first glasses. Walking out of the optometrist and stopping in my tracks. I stared at the trees...My Dad had taken me to pick them up. He asked, "What is wrong Roxy?" (Yeah Roxy was my family name.) I just stared at the trees and said, "I can see leaves Daddy! I can see each little leaves on the trees. I didn't know trees had leaves like that!.

Wait...whoa...isn't this about people???

OK...WHAT this is from a FUNERAL Home? That alone is frightening..Now the ones below are truly scary...

Uh....from crashing bikes? dang just how fast were they going?? No wonder it is law now to wear helmets and pads...it is Bill and Joe's fault!

Because kids always jump and play in leaves lying in the STREET!

Really?? Again?? That's it boys are no longer allowed to ride bikes they just an't handle it. Sheesh.

Remember kids, eat right, get a good nights sleep and you too will be that perfect student!!!

So that brings us to an end of the beginning of the school year!

We will visit school again I am sure!

We Interrupt My Vintage World for a Special Personal post....

Hey Y'all,

It's Ro here. This last week has been a whirlwind of fun and amazing people. Face Book doesnt give me enough space so I told friends and family I would post it here. We will go back to the old format tomorrow promise.

Just a small recap here for those who don't know. My husband Mark was (and always will be) Army Infantry. A few years ago he was hurt and eventually medically retired at 100% disability. During this time a friend had told him how he (he was also disabled) was given a mortgage free home. Free! A home! From a fantastic organization called Operation Homefront, in their "Homes on the Homefront section. At that time in our lives, when everything was all topsy turvey, not knowing what to do, what our future was going to be etc. We figured well, let's sign up, all they can say is no. And we did. About 1 year after we had been working with Op. Homefront in getting info they needed, looked at homes we liked and put in for a few in Washington State. We wanted to be close to our Daughter, SIL and Grandson. We didn't get those homes. It wasn't meant to be. All the while dealing with surgery on Marks back (he now is the bionic man with a steel spine LOL) PT, Therapy etc. We started looking for homes outside of Washington State as his back just couldn't handle the cold and wetness. We knew he had to be in a sunny area. He is originally from Reno, NV so desert living he knew. He/we didn't want to move to Reno proper when we saw a home come up on the listing for Fallon, NV. About an hour from Reno. His parents lived there for a while and we knew the area. OK! Let's try this house! 3 bedroom, 2 bath. Cute not large fenced in yard for the dogs etc. about 3 months later we were approved! So, off to Fallon we went. With 3 dogs, a Guinea Pig and our daughter Leah.

We pulled up and were handed the keys to the house. It was perfect! Now we had to be on their program for 2 years, fix credit if there was any problems. Have money saved for incidentals after were were deeded the house etc. We couldn't make any structural changes until after the deed, but with approval we could do some changes to fit our needs.

It is now almost 2 years, in October we will have finished our program and will be deeded the house. It will be ours in all aspects.

CHASE Bank is one of Op. Homefronts biggest supporters and they owned the home we have. They donate homes to Operation Homefront. We love you CHASE!

Every 3 months our "counselor" Grace would come over and see how we were doing. The last few visits ago she asked us if we knew who Country Singer Tim Mcgraw was...Ummmmm yeah! Hello, big fan!

Time is a HUGE supporter of Operation Homefront as are a few other celebrities.

She told us that every so often Op. Homefront sends its clients to a concert of his, meet and greet etc and asked if we would like to go. She didn't even have to ask, No, No Grace we love his music but don't care to actually meet him. LOL! Grace told us it was "sometime in September and there are a few venues we would send you too. As it gets closer, someone will get in touch." Well, alrighty then!

Flash forward to 2 weeks ago. Tim was having a concert in Ridgefield, Washington, (Yeah, I grew up there and never had heard of Ridgefield.) Sorry guys! It was just across the boarder of Portland, OR and Vancouver Wa.

They set us up with a flight, hotel, rental car etc.

And we were off!!! September 5 was the concert, we had no idea what to expect.

We were given a contact person from Op. Homefront named Janice and her and I worked out when to meet that Saturday the 5th. I have to say, Janice and her husband Brent (who is also a wounded warrior) are the coolest people evar!! Just awesome, they literally saw to our every need. I can't say enough how awesome they are. We also had a Rep. from Chase bank and his wife join us. Please forgive me guys, I so suck at names. Please know that you have impacted our lives, like you will never know...I just suck at names LOL.

Saturday, we were to meet at 4pm for dinner. We all met up at a wonderful steak house. Om nom nom nom yummy place.

Then we were off to the concert!

First thing we did was get our wrist bands, and a tag we had to put on our right leg. Then we went in to see the opening acts (whom I dig also) Chase Brant: Sorry for shaking, I was boogying and taking pictures LOL

Well, you get the gist. Towards the end of the set, we had to leave our seats to get ready to meet Tim~

We were taken back and had to wait while Tim was talking to the most adorable special needs young lady. She tried to teach him a dance move etc. We saw his shadow doing a twirl with her.

Then it was our time!

He was so great. He hugged Mark and I and asked Mark how he was doing, Mark said, "OK, it is what it is and you do what you have to do." Tim liked that. Mark will never whine or poor me because of his injuries. He will try to do psychically what he can do, always in pain but he wont quit. Infantry all the way. Like that night, he didn't want me to bring his portable wheelchair. He said, "I will do it with just my braces and cane. And he did. There was a lot of walking, sometimes at a bit of a pace? But he did it with wobbley legs. Mark mentioned the sweet girl in front of us and Tim said she was just too cute. I asked him if she taught him a new dance move and he said, "I try, I am that one white boy who just can't dance." I looked at Mark and said, Well, meet your Brother in White men can't dance." We laughed.

He was having a sore throat for the past few days and I asked how he was feeling. The cold was getting to him. He then said, "I only have a few more years of doing this. My Oldest is just starting College and I don't want to be missing the others kids growing up." I said, "good for you, time goes by too fast." And he agreed. And touring is damn hard. I told him, "it will be sad when that happens but Country fans for the most part understand these things. We see you as humans not just celebrities, that have actual lives and really owe us nothing. You have given us your music and soul for many, many years. When it comes time to relax, that is what you have to do." "Hell, Garth Brooks took 14 years off to be with his kids when they were growing up. And he is back just as strong." I got a hug for that. Then it was time for photos as he had to get ready for the show.

He signed both of Marks braces. And gave an autograph for our oldest daughter Sarah. When he asked for her name and I told him Sarah with an "H", he started singing Hall and Oats "Sarah Smile." I told him that is the song she was named after! More laughter.

What a great man to take this time and give to Operation Homefront as he does. Thank YOU TIM!!!!!

Then back to our seats we went.

When all of the sudden...Tim stopped the concert and started talking about our Military. And then...He introduced Mark to the crowd! The spotlight came on him and Tim said that "do to Operation Homefront and your help Mark has a debt free home! CHEERS from the crowd!

He then said, I want to make sure you let Mark know how you feel, if you see him?? Shake his hand!" Then at least 100 people that night shook his hand and some real purty country girls gave him some big ol hugs! Nope, I had no problem with it, he deserves it!

He then sang a song he dedicated to Mark and the Military. Mark was blown away, he had no idea that Tim would do that. I did I have known for a while. It was explained to me. Hee hee don't ever tell me I can't keep a secret!

The concert went on. And damn, what a concert it was. If you ever get a chance to see him?? I highly encourage you to do so. Awesome show.

I have video's from the night that I will upload to my You Tube acct. That takes hours (literally LOL) and will give the links later.

Some pics just didn't show up as good with the lightening being so bright but here are some shots. Chase Brant and Billy Currington came out at the end to close the show. Of course he did an encore, which was all non country but top 40 songs. He sang Elton Johns "Tiny Dancer" and it was wonderful!

We didn't get back to the hotel until 1am. Past our bedtime for these old codgers LOL

Then we flew home the next day.

Operation Homefront, I cant even begin to tell you how we feel about...everything. As I tried to explain to the Chase Rep. The words "Thank You" just do not convey what our feelings are. There are no known English words that we can come up with to convey our thanks and deep gratitude for everything. As Mark said, "The house was more than enough! But to add this once in a lifetime experience....was awesome." The true meaning of the word, Awe-some." We are grateful for you, for Chase for everything that you have done for us. We take nothing for granted anymore in life. We do not feel we are "owed" anything. As Mark always says, "I was just doing my job."

Well folks...that was one hell of a weekend. One we will never ever forget.

I ask, that you please help out Operation Homefront. They are more than just helping our our Wounded Warriors, they also help out those families still in. From what I have seen and personally dealt with...they are far different than the others. A one time gift, or a monthly donation would be so wonderful.

Monday Blues

Goood Morning Everyone!

Monday is the start of the week and it has always been the unspoken enemy of people who totally enjoyed their weekends. Well, that’s quite a lot of people. It is a known fact that we really can’t get rid of Monday off the days of the week, people need to get up and pretty much drag their ass off the bed and start working the day. Monday mornings are the most dread moment of the week. It is the sign that a new work week has to start and that we must say goodbye to the bliss and comfort of the Saturday and Sunday.

I always, always had such a hard time with Mondays when I was working. Since having to take an early retirement to care for my Wounded Warrior, I still have a hard time. I still wake up anywhere from 5 to 6 am. It has been almost 4 years now and my body is still on a natural alarm.

Coffee, coffee is my one true reason to be able to even move in the morning. LOL. It has been my morning friend for eons. Now, when I get up early, I can sit and drink my brew and get the day figured out in my mind. It is quiet, Hubby, Daughter and dogs are still asleep. This...this is MY time. No one to talk too. Just me and my adored caffeine. Hello darling...Come to Momma...

On Mondays, for all of you my friends who have to get up and start your week of work, I shall endeavor to give you a Monday Blues pick me up, you make not drink coffee (

Calm down Ro, not everyone does!) But I will try to bash away those Blues with some type of Monday Morning Pick me up. Of course Coffee is the best way, maybe this will help also!

So on to your new week!

The Evolution of Swimwear for Females

Well, I am not to sure about that one Anonymous but swimwear sure has changed over the centuries. Especially for women. From being totally covered up (in modesty) to just a few scraps of cloth today it has always made a "splash" on the female form.

18th Century:

Although sea bathing was fashionable in the 18th century, it was considered proper to keep the skin white and untouched by the sun. This 1797 Gallery of Fashion print shows two ladies protected by face-shading bonnets, shawls and gloves as they approach a group of bathing machines, a sort of cabana on wheels. Ladies were known to sew weights into the hem of their smock-like bathing gowns to prevent the garment from floating up and showing their legs. Modesty ruled over fashion. Can we say drowning dresses??

Regency Era: The early 1800s marked the beginning of a revolution in swimwear when women flocked to the beaches for seaside recreation. An 1810 fashion magazine describes the proper attire:

Fashionable Sea-Side Walking Dress - La Belle Assemblee Fashions, Sept 1810

"A gown of white French cambric, or pale pink muslin, with long sleeves, and antique cuffs of thin white muslin worn over trowsers of white French cambric, which are trimmed the same as the bottom of the dress. A figured short scarf of pale buff, with deep pale-green border, and rich silk tassels; with gloves of pale buff kid; and sandals of pale yellow, or white Morocco, complete this truly simple but becoming dress." Mmmmmmm, bring on that warm sun glow!

Mid-19th Century:

In the mid-19th century bathing dresses covered most of the female figure. These garments were highlighted in Godey’s Lady’s Book in 1864. the long bloomers exhibit the influence of Amelia Bloomer’s innovative ideas for women’s clothing. The ”turkish” pants and “paletot” dresses are made from a heavy flannel fabric which would surely weigh down the swimmer. HEAVY FLANNEL Fabric. No, no honey, you take the children to the Beach, I will stay home in my underwear. Thanks so much...

The Victorian Era:

At ocean resorts where the water was very shallow near the beach, people undressed in little houses on wheels, which were drawn out into deep water by horses and hauled back to the shore when the bath was finished. At the larger resorts hundreds of these carts were seen in the water at a time. The broad wheels hardly made an impression on the firm, white sand of the beach.

The "bathing machine allowed a modest Victorian woman to spend the day at the beach in complete privacy. After the horse would haul the cabana into the ocean, the 19th century woman would change from her layers of petticoats and dress into another layer of swimwear. Later a hood was added to the contraption to allow the female in a soaking wet flannel dress to emerge from the water unseen.

1890s:

Women typically dressed in black, knee-length, puffed-sleeve wool dresses, often featuring a sailor collar, and worn over bloomers or drawers trimmed with ribbons and bows. The bathing "costume was typically accessorized with long black stockings, fancy lace-up bathing slippers, and fancy caps.

1900:

By the end of the 19th century people were flocking to the oceanside beaches for popular seaside activities such as swimming, surf bathing, and diving. The clumsy Victorian-style bathing costumes were becoming burdensome. A need for a new style of bathing suits that retained modesty but was free enough to allow the young lady to engage in swimming was obvious.

1910:

By 1910 the bathing suit no longer camouflaged the contours of the female body. The yards of fabric used in Victorian bathing skirts and bloomers were reduced to show a little more of the figure and to allow for exposure to the sun.

1915:

Up until the first decades of the 20th century, the only activity for women in the ocean involved jumping through the waves while holding on to a rope attached to an off-shore bouy. By 1915, women athletes started to share the actual sport of swimming with men and thus began to reduce the amount of heavy fabric used in their billowing swimsuits.

1920s:

By the early 1920s bathing suits were reduced to a one piece garment with a long top that covered shorts. Though matching stockings were still worn, vintage swimwear began to shrink and more and more flesh was exposed from the bottom of the trunks to the tops of the stockings. By the mid-1920s Vogue magazine was telling its readers that “the newest thing for the sea is a jersey bathing suit as near a maillot as the unwritten law will permit.”

From then on bathing suites became smaller, tighter and allowing more freedom to move, to actually swim (what a novel idea) and enjoy the sun. Of course those daring ladies of the 20s turned everything topsy turvy and upside down! But that is another story and collection...

Welcome to My Vintage Life!

It is now the waning of Summer for us all. Most kids are back in school, some get to wait until after Labor Day. So it is time for that last Hurrah! Get that last minuet of fun in before "real" life sets in again.

My love of vintage came very early for me. My Mom had all kinds of tchotchkes around our home. They were handed down from her Mother and Grandmother. I remember holding them in my hands, asking about the history of them. My love of Art and Design was just always there.

I was born in 1960, raised in the 60's/70's. Young adult (heh) hood in the 80s. Yes, I was a full blooded Metal Head Momma.

Maybe because it was a tumultuous time, when I was raised but I always loved the past. A gentler time. We were raised with manners, common sense and allowed to just be kids.

I have been a collector of the past since I was a young teen. Actually, I don't collect the past as much as it collects me. And now I have a venue to share my love with you.

Later today in my Homage to The Last Days of Summer, I will take a look at The History of the Female Bathing suits. Adding my own pictures of My Bathing Beauties.

Welllll hellloooo!!!!
Glad to have you back. And where have I been? Here, working on the house. I painted the cabinets in the kitchen, added cabinets that wre soooo much needed. Let's face it, Mark, Leah and I do not use a kitchen table to eat. We eat on the couch watching the tube. There are no children in the house, so..bye bye "dining" area. And hello wall to wall cabinets! Yes baby. And we replaced the ugly white tiled countertops with beautiful pine wood. LOVE IT! Now, here is where it got hinky..I put in a load of dishes before going to bed one night. In the morning we woke up to water all over the floor. The dish washers hose broke...yeah. So, we cleaned it up and I just unhooked the dishwasher. I like washing dishes by hand anyway. No I really do! It must be my OCD cuz I just think that they are cleaner. LOL
The next few days, we noticed big humps in the floor, so Mark pulled up a few planks and low and behold, the builders had put down pressboard for the sub floors! Seriously, pressboard. So the water made huge humps. I had to take it all up and and put down a waterproof sub floor. Then I decided I wanted god old white linoleum tiles. Like at a grocery store LOL. That was fun laying down the goopy glue and at least we had a cutter so it went down really well. But in front of the sink, I put down bricks! yes sir re bob! Bricks! Ya gotta see it I guess LOL.

Finishing up a few more coats of paint on the new cabinets, then hardware.

See that big black box?? That is an air conditioner. It was starting to get in the 100's and we noticed the A/C wasn't working very well. Had a guy come out, it seems the A/C was working but it is too small for the building. I was working but it could only do so much. 10K for a new bigger system. Sorry, not going to happen any time son. We bought this to help out and a small one we put in the window of the spare room. We are doing fine now. A new system will wait probably a few years to put in. This baby is portable and really nice. I will take it down in the winter and place in the storage shed!

Ah yes...the floor from hell. And the no longer working cuz I hate you dishwasher. LOL

The new floor. BUT THEN! Yeah, that was too plain. So, in front of the sink, I have cut out what is a bit larger than what a big rug would be. And am laying the bricks. It is a tad bit boho than country but I am digging it. I will post it when finished.

I have played a bit with the looks of the blog, no pages I am just going to post what I would on them. Less moving around, easier for you and me. Snerk.

After all of this was finished my oldest daughter and Grandson came to visit! Yaaay. Every summer we plan on flying them down or going up or even meeting them somewhere else. But it is the start (they came last year also) of summer fun with Grammie and Poppa!

We had such a good time, he just turned 6 on Aug 1st. And is now in the first grade. This is going by way to fast honey. It was hard enough watching my girls grow up now Patrick?? LOL noooo. We went to Virginia City, our favorite cowboy town. And Reno's Sierra Safari Zoo, Reno's Discovery Children's Museum...on the go the whole week. Since it was so hot out we bought a pool for Paddy to play in the back yard. I come out at one point and Paddy and Poppa pulled the sides of the pool and were digging a river! And of course Patrick was swimming in it mud bathing was fun! Poppa and Paddy are good buddies. Boys and mud, can't get any better right??

Such an awesome young man. He has the funniest sense of humor, always cracking us up. Yeah, I kinda love him.

So this is my looong explanation of why I was away for so long. But every night I kept telling myself to get on yer blog woman! But then I would fall asleep. Sorry! We are starting on the back yard now, laying down a concrete formed patio. Then building in a screened in porch. It gets the full hard sun and just isn't really usable. We are using concrete forms that look like boulders?? Eh, another picture to come.

So my dears, we shall meet again, why maybe even more than once a month?? I do believe that is doable.
