If you’re reading my Tumblogs then you’d know that I’ve run out of ideas on what to blog about. Funny, just after I posted a short ‘thought’ on Tumblr I got an ‘Eureka moment’.

Anyway last week, one of the Mauritian bloggers wrote a beautiful article about God and Science.

I’ve always been curious about why we’re here, what’s the purpose of our existence on Earth. The said blogger, Bruno, discussed, in other words, the coexistence of Science and religion. Can Science obliterate our religious beliefs by producing ‘facts’ – facts we cannot just push aside?

Well, last Monday, I visited the Logos Hope Boat which was anchored for a while in the Vincy port. The books on sale were of Christian/Educational/Children genres. I was so disappointed since I gathered that I’d find the works of James Patterson, John Grisham, Jeffrey Deaver, Martina Cole and alike authors. However I did manage to find some interesting books and I finally purchased four! One book particularly caught my interest and I’ve decided to share it a few snippets with you lot.

HOW DID THE EARTH BEGIN?

Around 4.6 million years ago, neither the Earth nor any of the other planets existed. There was just this vast, dark, very hot cloud of gas and dust swirling around the newly formed sun. Gradually, the cloud cooled and the gas began to condense into billions of droplets. Slowly these droplets were pulled together into clumps by their own gravity – and they carried on clumping until all the planets, including the Earth, were formed. But it took another half a billion years before the Earth had cooled enough to form a solid crust with an atmosphere around it.

HOW BIG IS THE EARTH?

Satellite measurements show it is 24,901 miles (40,075 km) around the equator and 7,297 miles (12,577 km) across. The diameter at the Poles is slightly less, by 26.7 miles (43 km).

HOW OLD IS THE EARTH?

The Earth is about 4.6 billion years old. The oldest rock is about 3.8 billion years old. Scientists have also dated meteorites that have fallen form space, and must have formed at the same time as the Earth.

WHAT IS THE EARTH MADE OF?

The Earth has a core of iron and nickel, and a rocky crust made mostly of oxygen and silicon. In between is the soft, hot mantle of metal silicates, sulphides, and oxides.

WHAT SHAPE IS THE EARTH?

The Earth is not quite a perfect sphere. Because it spins faster at the equator than at the Poles, the Earth bulges at the equator. Scientists describe Earth’s shape as “geoid”, which simply means Earth-shaped!

WHAT’S SO SPECIAL ABOUT EARTH?

The Earth is the only planet with temperatures at which liquid can exist on the surface and is the only planet with an atmosphere containing oxygen. Water and oxygen are both needed for life.

WHY DOES THE EARTH SPIN?

Earth spins because there is nothing to stop it spinning. The Sun’s gravity keeps it in orbit.

Not working?! No kids? Too much time on your hands? Don't know what to do?

Let's tumbleeeee-rrr! And sign up on virtually every other social network sites you can!

Well that's my new occupation.

My internet addiction keeps growing thanks to Twitter, Facebook, Blogger, Tumblr, MyBlogLog, BlogCatalog, Thoughts, OpenDiary etc.

Everyday I 'discover' a new site and sign up! When Twitter went down I felt like I was robbed! I get super-irritated when Facebook runs slow. If someone calls me while I'm writing a post, I flare up with exasperation...

I need to slow down and start organizing my day by including other 'offline' activities.

Anyway, I signed up on Tumblr in May 2009 and after a couple of days I totally forgot about it. But right now Tumblr is being acclaimed for its lightweight and easy-to-use interface.

Obviously, I retrieved my forgotten password and niced up my Tumblr page!

And voila! My Tumblr is back on and being updated on a daily basis.

Tumblr is strictly for short ramblings and photos/videos. Go have a look!

I'm still going to schedule my days as from tomorrow.

Not My Own...

Post...I came across a blogger where she said she borrowed the concept from someone else...looks like fun so I thought I'd give it a try too... :)

Outside my window...Right now, I’m outside; enjoying the beautiful weather with my niece...we’re singing, drawing, typing, blogging, tweeting... :)

I am thinking...what to cook for lunch...or should I not cook today since it’s Friday? Hubby doesn’t like home-cooked food on Friday!

I am thankful for...having a supportive husband, a loving family and a shelter over my head.

From the kitchen...I usually don’t face the window unless I’m doing dishes.

I am wearing...a pair of blue-grey shorts and hubby’s tee.

I am creating...a blog post!

I am going...to bathe – again - after I finish publishing this post.

I am reading...no book right now. I need to visit the local library.

I am hoping...for a sunny weekend.

I am hearing...rustling of leaves and somebody’s mowing the lawn!

Around the house...there’s grass...hehehe

One of my favorite things...watching TV since I finally got the remote control.

A few plans for the rest of the week...staying in, watching TV, sleeping...lazy weekend ahead of me...yayy!

Hyprocrisy is O-U-T!

Everybody is a hypocrite. Some of us abuse the hypocrisy label. Unknowingly or ‘very’ knowingly. Over the top is the destination set by those people.

One episode last year triggered a surprising – but expected – reaction from me. I just got fed up of pretentious folks and I was too happy to put a stop to it.

Since then my life has seen a constant influx of deceitful human beings. It’s as if God is laughing at me! I’m so vexed and disgusted.

New mid-year motto: If I don’t like someone I won’t go out of my way to talk to him/her. I’d be polite, yes, but no more forced grins or insincere smiles.

However, family members like to hit below the belt. The reason behind it: Greed? Envy? Or pure evil? God knows.

But I’m sticking to my motto!

I’m psyching myself for more awkward moments. At least my conscience is clear!

What Are You Doing?

After the news about UoM charging a penalty fee to its students who failed in one or more than one module, I’m not quite surprised at the numerous responses this issue has evoked.

The fracas clearly shows the anger, frustration and hatred towards the university. The Mauritian blogosphere is resonating with outrage! I think I would be riding on a high horse too, but for totally different reasons. First and foremost I’d blame myself for not paying close attention to the fine prints on the agreement I appended my signature while registering for a particular course with the said university. Then I’d berate myself for not studying harder. And thirdly I’d make sure to find out why my lecturers are not as dedicated as my teachers from primary and secondary schools.

Hey! Wait a minute! Didn’t you know that a lecturer would NOT indulge any spoon-feeding tactics in classes! Exception in some cases. But still the job description of a lecturer is a subset of that of a teacher!

You cannot attribute your failure to anyone but yourself. University life represents the beginning of adulthood. Assume your responsibilities. Man up.

If the administrative body is ‘pulling tricks’ on you, you have the right to impugn the new rule and question the basis of such an exorbitant decision.

Take drastic measures if you feel you’ve been treated unfairly! Don’t sit in front of your computer screen and moan about it!

Get out there and fight for what you think is right.

The 80-20 Rule!

Before I start my short story, let me explain the 80-20 rule to those who are unaware of its existence. Strictly speaking about relationships, the rule says that 80% of most men's needs get taken care of by a wife or a partner and still they are inclined to look for someone else for the remaining 20%.

Years ago, I met Mr. 80. I was being courted in the way a girl dreams of. Everything was going fine until I met Mr. 20. My whole being knew it was wrong but I was too weak to resist his charm. And in his bed I fell! Mr. 20 can only be Mr. 20. So I thought. Over a course of a year, he turned into Mr. 80! I still ask myself how it happened and sheets and wooden floor come to mind!

And now four years later he's no longer Mr. 80 but Mr. 100!

Ear I Am!

Since last week, water got into my ear and it’s still bothering me but less than before. I don’t like doctors and will go to one only if it’s an emergency. A running ear doesn’t require any medical assistance – it wasn’t the case when I was young. I used to be a frequent visitor at the hospital. Not anymore. I tend to keep it that way.

Anyway, back to my running ear. A very dear individual gave me a book to read. It’s about natural cures. I’ve shelved it and thought I wouldn’t need it in the immediate future. Was I ever so wrong! When he found out about my ear problem he asked me to read the book and I’ll find something to ease the pain. Too stubborn to read I ignored his advice. It took me spouse around 3 days to finally find the book and looked up any ear-related complication. And there it was at the very top of the page and I nearly missed it!

The author suggests as treatment to use Yellow Dock, lemon juice diluted one-half, oil of origanum, and peroxide of Hydrogen. Warm the mixture and put it in your ear. I was initially skeptical after reading that. Years of hospital’s treatments and my ear is still not cured. For the sake of my own peace of mind and my husband’s I decided to have a go at it. At home we had Hydrogen Peroxide and lemon. So hubby warmed the concoction and put it my left and right ears.

Holy Molly! It worked! My ear is still blocked but it feels much lighter! I’m still baffled at this marvellous remedy.

So I’ve decided to put up another blog or section to share the herbal and natural cures suggested by Mr. Kloss – author of the book.

Now it’s time to go and show my appreciation to hubby!

His Age ≠ Her Age

I can officially call today a totally wretched day. Water got in my left ear and now i’m partially deaf, hopefully not for long. I can’t say if that’s the reason why my brain’s activity has gone into overdrive mode. Whenever I feel low I think of all the hardships life threw at me, what other grievances I’d bear in the future, and today it was no different. But my blog is about a different topic and the aforesaid rambling was just to state the frame of mind I’m presently in.

People, who believe in love, say that age is just a number. Falling in love is so easy. I won’t contest it. But how do you fuel/nurture the flame into everlastingness when you fall in love with someone who is almost twice your age? How do you bridge the gap? In my case, it’s 11 years.

Very often we are at loggerheads over personal plans. A classic example: He wants to go out to a nice restaurant or pub-hopping while I fancy going to the club! He claims that he cannot bear overcrowded places, especially where very young people are hanging out in groups. I love crowded clubs! I don’t have to show off my lack of moves to all and sundry. In his ‘younger’ days he used to party a lot, stay out till the following morning, have a quick shower and out again.

I’m still young as compared to him. I want to experience whatever he had when he was my age too. Is it selfish of me to have such expectations? I don’t think so. Is it selfish of him to expect me to pander to his every whim? I’m still pondering on this one. LOL (Ah love is blind huh?)

We click on everything except on our plans for social outings. I know many would say it’s just a clash of personalities but according to our astrological signs (Cynics skip this sentence :)) we are made for each other! And it’s true. It’s a clash of personalities when the couple is from the same age bracket. My beau loves partying but not when I want! He’s an 80’s party animal and I got my feet firmly planted in the new millennium.

It is really different when you’re with someone who is not from the same age bracket as you.

Or, is age indeed JUST a number?

OK. I'm back on Blogger. Last time I moved to Wordpress.com I wrote a post why I'd be using Wordpress instead of Blogger. This week I stumbled on some good reviews (I've lost the webpage link) on Blogger.

On top of that, I got to admit that I got bored of the themes offered on Wordpress. This time I won't be posting any pros and cons about those two blogging platforms. I'll stick to Blogger as long as my interest doesn't wane.

SOMEBODY HAS TO SAY IT

Reading blogs has become a part of my daily routine. Once or twice, per day, I come across an article where men are downsized for some reason or the other. I, for once, would like to dedicate this blog to the men, especially those in my life.

Women and men, we all have flaws but unity should prevail and instead of focusing on the negative traits of each other, we should put time in appreciating what goodness and happiness we bring – or can bring – to each other.

So what are the good qualities of men?

Let’s start with them being generous. Yes, they are.

Always ready to share their lunch with you or buy you one? Definitely. Willing to dip into their personal allowance to lend you when you’re in need? You can easily count on them to share their answers while sitting for a test. How many girls/women would readily do that? Having trouble with your boyfriend? The best person to talk to is a male friend. He wouldn’t berate your man and will try to appease things between you two. No I-told-you-so or of-course-he-is-a-player-so-what-did-you-expect! What about when you’re feeling low? They’ll cheer you up in a funny and yet successful manner. They can’t bear the sight of tears! While dating, if they do not have any long-term commitment plans with you in mind, they’ll subtly let you know. At least men with confidence won’t play games with you. Even the cocky ones will make you laugh with their high-handed selves. They do speak less and act more. Sometimes, with little encouragement, they’ll speak their heart and ‘fess up if they did you wrong. Very often you’ll even become susceptible to their white lies. The fellas are, in my book, ‘Advocates of White Lies’! :D

Men fall into different categories, just like women do. We often forget, in our bitterness towards men, that even many of them tend to have misgivings about mundane things. Nervousness strikes them as well. Just because witnessing a beautiful sunset makes them emotional doesn’t turn them into a wimp. I, personally, find it heartening to see tears in a man’s eyes; it rouses empathy within.

On that account, i would like to add that not all men are rapists, murderers, perverts, players, haters and other what-nots. I, as a woman, would like to make an appeal: Take time out for the men in your life. They need reassurance just as much as we do.

How much water do you drink per day?

Drinking too much water leads to health complications!

Two weeks ago, my sister-in-law, J, and I were talking about our respective health issues. She, very often, suffers from tremendous headaches. Upon her visit to the doctor, she was told that, after being questioned about her eating/drinking habits, she has been drinking too much water!! J was stunned and thinking to herself, “that’s a crazy notion, especially coming from a doctor!” She is a busy mum and never took the time to check it online or get a second opinion from another medical person.

I google everything. Of course I looked it up! What did we know?! The results were astounding.

Excessive intakes of water culminate into a condition called ‘hyponatremia’. Wikipedia defines it as ‘an electrolyte disturbance (disturbance of the salts in the blood) in which the sodium concentration in the plasma is lower than normal’. Read more on hyponatremia here.

There is another article that caught my eye. It reveals how a woman ‘died after competing in a radio station’s on air-water-drinking contest’. Full article here.

Balance is key people!! The author of the article advised:

“Drink to your thirst. It’s the best indicator.”

Assassination of the English Language

Dear Diary

It just stopped raining. I am in my bedroom, drowning in my own sweat and thinking about this week’s events. One thing keeps nagging me. I’ll get back to that shortly.

First let me tell you how delighted I was to find a network of Mauritians diligently blogging and consequently, building a community where opinions are generously shared. Residing on the other half of the planet, I always take pride in imparting the fact that I’m from Mauritius. On this side of Earth, very few people know the existence of my small island in the Indian Ocean.

Anyway Diary, back on the nit-picking thought. I’m a sucker for any beautifully-written published article/document. I’m unquestionably impressed with the blogs composed by some of the Mauritians. It’s the way you write that, as a result, captures your targeted readers. However, my fussy eyes can’t go over misspelled words, plain grammatical bloopers, incorrect sentence structure and wrong tenses. No matter how alluring your article is.

One blog captivated my interest today and one tiny word ruined it for me: ‘scaring’ used as an adjective!! Ouch! What happened to ‘scary’?

Do not let it happen again. PLEASE. Make sure you know your adjectives and nouns before you start write.

This is not a hate blog, mind you Diary.

Please let me know if I’ve breached any syntax of the English language!

It represents the beginnning of the week-end! I still feel the TGIF buzz even though I'm unemployed.
My husband HAS to take me out, else dire consequences are ensued (C'mon it's Friday! Time to put on your dancing shoes!!)
I get to play my music loud! LOL This practice's been established since I moved to the Caribbean.

I started Wordpress-ing today! I must admit blogging is getting under my skin. Hopefully I'll keep on writing since I have a tendency of moving on to pastures new quickly.

Horrible Mind Trip!

Whoa! What happens when you dream of death? Or do dreams project what's in your subconscience?

I had a horrendous nightmare last night and it was about my friend giving birth to a dead baby! The ordeal is still a bit hazy in my memory and all I can remember clearly is that the baby came out in a mummified sorta way. The horror of it!!!

Does this mind trip have a meaning? What is its significance? Or should I just brush it all away?

No Sweaty Palms and Still...

I am in love, over again. There comes a time in one's life where one says 'I am in love', most of us do I suppose. But how do you know it's love? Or are we confusing lust with love?

I knew when I was losing myself to someone else and this time it was serious – still is, more and more everyday. The man I fell in love with lured me with mere words and I could not stop my body from responding, though my brain was a bit slow to follow act. However sometimes losing is winning and I am glad I did. Nothing compares to the first flushes of love, nothing at all. In my case it was bewilderment followed by resistance and then acceptance.

My fate was sealed on a warm Sunday night. Compliments are like a balm to one's ego but surprisingly I was rather shown appreciation – as if he knew that being complimented on my physical characteristics turns me off - and thatthrew me off. I am stupid right? What woman wouldn't like to have the man of her life or any man at that, whispering sweet nothings about how her eyes twinkle or how that skirt complement her skin tone and so on? Not me for sure. Yes I am stupid. Or maybe you could blame it on certain attitudes I had come across as a child who had left a message indelibly printed across my brain that other people's criticism was something I must learn to live with. No great expectations here.

Anyhow, I fell for him – hook, line and sinker. Not a day goes by I feel a tiny ache within myself that if fate had not allowed us the time to discover each other what would've become of us? Dwelling on negative thoughts won't do any good – as he would say – so let's pursue happiness instead.

There are no words to describe how much I love him. As for the question 'How do I know it's love?' Simple – the way he hugs me, the way his eyes mist over when he confesses his love to me and the way he holds on to me when…erm…better leave it unsaid or rather unwritten…

However it's not going to be a bed of roses all the time and I would not want it to be. A rose with no thorn loses its charm and beauty. Pain is part of happiness.

Caught up in throes of passion and love, I can finally admit that cynical, I'm not anymore. That thing called love has again stroke and I'm thrilled to be one of its 'victims'.

It all comes down to this….

Today was one of the most boring days of my life; when I say boring I should probably add irksome too. Day by day I get the feeling that I’m leading a humdrum existence. That mental weariness is also compounded by the selfish acts of people who are around me. Since the beginning of time, women have been used by men and still are. You may think you are independent but there’s always a man who thinks he can control you, in one way or another. Some of them would brawl to make you pay attention and then some would manipulate you with their silence. Is it ever going to end? So much for the gender equality but hey we forgot something….MEN’S EGO! I don’t know where that need to prove to others that they are the best and the strongest sprout from. Have they never heard about speech being silver and silence being gold?? If Pierre Luquet (God bless his soul) was still alive maybe he could have given us some more thorough answers about that! Now, now! I’m not a man-hater but some of them do get on my nerves. I ‘m not trying to generalize here – though it does sound like it – and my excuse is that I’m a woman and that’s one of my prerogatives! I do feel bitchy when some ponces who got no sense of decorum, decide to rub me the wrong way deliberately. And thank you, I am big enough to make my own decisions!

P.S: If you think I’m a misandrist then yes you are a jerk!
