Some questions have no easy answers.

Where is God?
Has He always been there?
Can I trust Him?

Specifically, for a young man aging out of care, these are not abstract questions. They are reality. Turning 18 in a children’s home doesn’t feel like freedom. It feels like a door closing behind you and no map for what’s ahead. Independence, yes. But also loneliness. Uncertainty. Wounds that haven’t finished—or maybe even started—healing.

David* knows.

His childhood taught him abandonment before it taught him anything else. Rejection was familiar. Hurt was the norm. So when he walked out of the children’s home at 18, he carried more than a bag of belongings. He carried years of pain that made him wonder if God was present. If God had ever been present.

Here’s what David didn’t know yet:

His doubt could not undo God’s love.

His faith wavered, but God’s love never did. That’s the thing about steadfastness—it doesn’t depend on the one being held. It depends on the One doing the holding.

So David started attending a local church with other young adults who had aged out like he had. First, they opened the book of Daniel together. Then, week after week, sermon after sermon, conversation after conversation with his mentor, one truth kept surfacing:

Through every trial, God remained steadfast.

The fire came. But God remained. The lions came. But God remained. The empire changed hands and the kings changed names but God remained.

David heard the stories and said—

“I want to have faith like Daniel’s friends!”

But today, David is learning something even better than that.

David is learning that faith was never about earning God’s love.

It’s about trusting what Jesus already did.

Daniel’s friends didn’t make God faithful by being brave; they were brave because their God was already faithful.

And God is still making Himself known—through His people. David’s church has welcomed him as family. His pastor welcomes him with a hug every week. A small thing, maybe. But to a young man who spent years wondering if he was seen, that hug preaches. It says: you are seen, known, and loved.

Above all, David knows he is not alone. He never was.

Alexey’s Story

Alexey is one of the young orphan graduates working at Lifesong Farms Ukraine.

When he was a child, his alcoholic parents were unable to provide the stability he and his two older brothers needed. So they were placed in an orphanage. But hope was lacking.

Until, one day, Alexey met our team members who introduced him to God’s love.

As a teenager, Alexey moved into a transition home where he continued to be mentored by our team. He began to understand the value of hard work, responsibility, and Christian community. He attended Christian camps, and his faith grew. And later, he found belonging—working, serving, and learning practical skills at Lifesong Ukraine Farms.

Tragedy struck when Alexey’s older brother was killed, defending Ukraine at war. And suddenly, Alexey’s faith became real. As he wrestled with hard questions, God met him there.

Today, Alexey works on the engineering and technical support team on the farm, helping with welding, repairs, and maintaining farm machinery. He is supported by a family of believers who know his story and believe God has a good plan for his life.

What happens when an orphaned young adult ages out of care with no family to call?

For many orphans in South Korea, adulthood doesn’t begin with celebration; it begins with uncertainty.

After aging out of care, orphaned and vulnerable young adults face overwhelming pressure to navigate life on their own. They’re expected to find housing, manage finances, pursue higher education or employment, and build a future, all without the steady encouragement and support that families provide.

In a culture where orphaned young adults can face deep social stigma and isolation, the risks of depression and hopelessness are real.

But your support helps make something extraordinary possible.

Through our mentorship program, orphaned young adults are paired with a mentor who faithfully walks with them for two to four years. They commit to weekly phone calls, monthly outings, prayer, encouragement, and genuine friendship.

These relationships provide something every young person needs: someone who stays.

One mentor, HeeYoung, has seen firsthand how life-changing mentorship can be. She shares:

“I think this program actually saves lives. It ignites a spark of life in the mentees’ hearts. After leaving an orphanage, orphaned young adults are exposed to many risks. But through the mentorship program, even when life is hard, there’s someone holding onto them and praying for them. When a mentor becomes that fence of protection, the kids can experience true freedom.”

Through family-like belonging, young adults in South Korea can experience what it means to be seen, known, and loved. It’s about pointing them to the hope found in Jesus, while helping them build confidence that they can succeed.

Nayeon, another mentor shares:

“Mentorship isn’t a 500-meter sprint; it’s a marathon. It’s a journey where the mentors get to share their lives with their mentees. No matter what state they’re in, the young adults who come into this community are loved and accepted just as they are. And as they begin to feel a sense of accomplishment and belonging here, their self-esteem grows. It’s about caring for souls, not one person trying to care for many souls, but giving one-on-one care.”

The young adults discover they are capable of more than they imagined.

As mentors model the love of Christ, pray with their mentees, and remind them of their God-given worth, they grow academically, emotionally, spiritually, and professionally because someone believes in them.

Jay, another mentor, has experienced that growth in action. In his words:

“Do not underestimate the power of simply showing up. It can be difficult, but it will be worth it. You get to change someone else’s life, and at the same time, your life will also change.”

Because of people who have made the decision to simply show up, orphaned young adults are finding hope, building confidence, and becoming the leaders God created them to be.

Orphaned children and young adults recently gathered for a 5-day spiritual retreat in Haiti.

The retreat, led by our team, centered on one invitation from Proverbs 23:26: “My son, give me your heart.”

From morning devotions before sunrise to worship, prayer, team activities, service opportunities, and evenings around the campfire, every part of the retreat was intentionally designed to help the children we serve get to know Jesus more deeply and discover the life He invites them to live.

Our team prayed for the retreat to have a great impact. And as the days unfolded, change became clear as the children we serve began to contemplate what it means to choose obedience over rebellion, humility over pride, service over selfishness, gratitude over complaint, and forgiveness over bitterness.

One powerful story belongs to a girl named Veronette.

In recent months, Veronette’s behavior had become problematic, causing ministry leaders to reevaluate if she would be able to stay in the program. But during a powerful time of worship and prayer, the Holy Spirit moved in Veronette’s heart, and she accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior.

The transformation was evident. Now, Veronette experiences peace, authentic joy, and freedom that comes only through Christ.

Each day of camp began with a devotion and continued with Bible teachings, worship, Scripture memory, prayer, and conversations that encouraged every student to grow in their faith.

One student, Wilner, described it this way:

“I did not see the time pass. Each day, I wanted to hear more of the Word of God. The time felt too short.”

Another student, Widelene, experienced the freedom of forgiveness in Christ:

“I learned to forgive, because I know that God forgives me when I do what is wrong.”

These moments remind us that the greatest transformation happens when hearts encounter Jesus.

Orphaned and vulnerable children also grew as leaders through sports, teamwork, practical life lessons, and opportunities to serve others. One afternoon, the group served the local deaf community, where simple acts of kindness became powerful reminders of Christ’s love.

Jonise shared:

“Visiting the deaf community deeply moved me. I understood that serving is not only about speaking; it is about acting. While playing with them, I felt pure joy. I discovered that the impact of a simple moment can be eternal.”

Just as important were the relationships that formed and deepened throughout the week.

Erline reflected,

“This was not just a camp. I found mentors who will guide me and advise me for my future.”

That kind of encouragement doesn’t end when camp is over. It’s part of the ongoing Gospel-centered, holistic care your generosity makes possible as young people continue growing into adulthood among those who know them, love them, and point them to Jesus.

Though the retreat lasted only five days, the good work God began in the hearts of the orphaned and vulnerable children we serve is just beginning.

At just 10-years-old, Rolando* has deep determination and a heart that’s eager to learn.

After losing his father to illness when he was 7, he began supporting his family, alongside his older brother. Now, his mother lives with a health condition that limits what she is able to do. Even through these challenges, he continues to move forward with determination.

Our team provides Rolando with Gospel-centered care and education, helping him to grow.

To him, education is more than a classroom. It is an opportunity to dream.

A team member in Bolivia says it best:

“Rolando has a habit of looking at the world as if it were a field waiting to be discovered.”

In the classroom, Rolando found a place where he can learn, make mistakes, try again, and discover what he is capable of. Each new skill and every challenge he overcomes becomes a reminder that his future is full of possibility.

As he tries new things, confidence begins to take root.

Through education, encouragement, and the love of Christ, Rolando is discovering his God-given potential. He has learned that his story isn’t defined by what he has faced but by the hope God continues to grow within him. He is starting to believe he has purpose, gifts, and a future worth pursuing.

We are reminded of Proverbs 22:6, which says, “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.”

We believe God is planting seeds of hope, resilience, and faith in Rolando’s life. And with care, those seeds will continue to grow.

The world is changing its mind about adoption.

You can feel it if you’re paying attention. The word, adoption, used to mean love. Now, it arrives with a raised eyebrow. The documentaries are sharper. The headlines are colder.

The Church called adoption sacred—now the culture is learning to call it suspect.

Here’s what we cannot do. We cannot pretend the critique is entirely unfair. Because it isn’t.

There have been children treated like inventory, mothers handed a pen before they were given the truth, homes that promised to be a haven and became something else, and grief told to smile for the photo.

So let the record show:
where adoption was done as a transaction, it was done wrong.
Where it erased a child’s history, it was done wrong.
Where it asked a mother to disappear, it was done wrong.

We do not defend the wrong. We learn from it. And we do better.

But also hear me—

In Guatemala, we have the privilege of walking alongside young mothers and their children as they discover safety, healing, and the love of Jesus. This story is a reminder that even in the midst of deep brokenness, God is still working. He is restoring what has been lost, bringing healing where there has been hurt, and creating new beginnings where they once seemed impossible.

At just 13 years old,

Adelina* came to our ministry in Guatemala as a mother, a survivor, and carrying burdens too great to bear alone.

She was pregnant and had endured deep pain and hardship. But with our team, she found a safe place where she could begin to heal: a place where our team sees her, loves her, and reminds her that her story is not defined by the tragedies she experienced.

Then, for the first time in her life, Adelina stepped into a classroom. As she discovered her love for learning, the letters she learned became part of her restoration story.

One day, Adelina handed a ministry leader an envelope filled with Bible verses she had written as handwriting practice. She couldn’t fully read the words yet, but she knew there was something powerful about them. And she was right!

God’s Word was already restoring the brokenness she felt.

After the birth of her baby girl, healing began to take root. She made a promise that her daughter would never experience the pain she had endured.

With courage, she shared her story and revealed that her younger sister was still facing the same abuse she had suffered. Because she spoke up, our team rescued her sister and brought her to safety as well.

Today, these sisters are walking a new path.

They recently chose to follow Jesus and were baptized, declaring that tragedies from their past will not have the final word.

Their journey of restoration is just beginning—but God is already moving in mighty ways.

He is restoring broken places.
He is restoring families.
He is restoring futures.

Through God’s love and His people, orphaned and vulnerable children and families are finding healing, freedom, and a future filled with purpose.

Within one verse of John’s Gospel,

we are given a choice—every father and Christ-follower—as to how we will choose to live our lives.

Jesus told Peter in John 18:11,

“Put your sword into its sheath; shall I not drink the cup that the Father has given me?”

In 18 short words, Jesus defines what I believe is a significant struggle facing men today.

Jesus had been betrayed by Judas, and was being arrested, when Peter took matters into his own hands.

Despite hearing Jesus secure his freedom (John 18:8–9), Peter relied on his own strength, trusted his own wisdom and interpretation of the situation, and swung his sword to remove the ear of Malchus.

If Jesus had not lovingly and patiently intervened, there could soon have been 4 crosses on Calvary.

Instead, Jesus gently reminded Peter that the Father is in control, that He had given Jesus a cup to drink, and that obedience to the Father was—and still is—the path to choose.

In a short space of time, Peter had argued with Jesus, disobeyed Jesus, was running ahead of Jesus, and would soon deny Jesus. But before we seek to judge Peter, let’s be honest with ourselves and admit that we all too often do the same things.

Life is hard, regardless of how many children we have,

what age they are, and if any are being grafted into our family biologically or through adoption/foster care.

“All too often we can buckle to the pressure to do what we feel is best, to act on what we understand, to trust in our own resources or strength, and forget that our Heavenly Father has held out a cup for each of us to take and drink, too.”

No matter the stress or situation, He is with us, holding a cup for us to choose.

The cup that Jesus willingly drank included becoming sin for us, enduring separation from His Father, unimaginable suffering, and total sacrifice. This was the punishment He bore for our sin, and the bride-price He was willing to pay for us, to redeem His bride, the Church. Unfathomable love. Shining example.

Throughout His life on earth, Jesus gave us a clear example of dependent relationship and humble obedience to His Father.

Despite being the Son of God, Jesus sought His Father’s will to the very last moment of His life on earth. He called His disciples to consider His example (John 4:34), and seeks to strengthen us to do the same.

Yet, despite His example and constant presence, I all too often jump into “fix-it” mode. I am very capable of listening just long enough to get the details I need to dish out my wisdom or fly into action to sort things out!

I am often too slow to sit still, really listen, seek my Father’s will, and then walk (instead of fly) in obedience.

God wants to use us, to work in, for, through, and with us to meet needs and change the world. But He generally wants us to look more like Jesus than Captain America! The gifts, skills, wisdom, and resources that He has given us are worth so much more. And we have so much more impact when we stop, reflect, and pray before speaking and acting.

I am a husband to one amazing wife, dad to 6 incredible children (born on 3 different continents), and grandpa to 4 delightful grandchildren. I don’t have to think too long to be reminded how blessed I am. However, I am infuriatingly capable of speaking without thinking. I can share wisdom that is not even close to being heard or accepted the way I intended, and begin to “fix” something. When all I needed to do was listen, empathize, and pray.

Family and Father, forgive me!

As a man, like all men, I know that God has called me to love and submit to Him first,

then to humbly and sacrificially love my wife, seeking her best. Then to gently lead, guide, provide for, and encourage our children. And then to work—at whatever job He provides for me—in a way that honors Him.

Simple, yet so, so hard.

I can’t do it alone. Thankfully, I was never intended to. God is unchanging. And our hope to live out our calling as men is just as secure as God’s faithfulness to His promises.

And occasionally, we need to pause and remind ourselves of what He has promised us—

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go” (Joshua 1:9).

“Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers. But his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on His law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season, and whose leaf does not wither—whatever he does prospers” (Psalm 1:1–3).

“The LORD is with me; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me? The LORD is with me; He is my helper. I look in triumph on my enemies” (Psalm 118:6–7).

And also remind ourselves of the father He has called us to be—

“He humbled you, causing you to hunger and then feeding you with manna, which neither you nor your ancestors had known, to teach you that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the LORD” (Deuteronomy 8:3).

“Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ” (Galatians 1:10).

“Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—His good, pleasing, and perfect will” (Romans 12:1–2).

“But you, man of God, flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance, and gentleness. Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses” (1 Timothy 6:11–12).

Let’s pause for a moment today and remember all that God has done for us in Christ. Then let’s reflect on His pursuit of us. His unfathomable sacrifice and love. And let’s look afresh at those He has chosen to place in our lives. And then, together, for His Glory and the good of those we love, let us put down our sword and choose the cup, again and again and again.

Lives like Peterson’s are transformed because of the gift of a safe and secure home and meaningful employment. Children are provided for. Parents learn to be present. Families stick together. And God gets the glory!

But without these blessings, many families in Haiti struggle under the weight of poverty.

Peterson’s father left his family when he was a young boy.

His mother did everything she could to care for her three sons, selling goods along the road to make money, but without support, she couldn’t afford basic necessities.

Years later, Peterson was introduced to our team at Welcome Home Haiti. As he watched safe and secure homes being built, he decided he wanted to learn construction skills. He started by helping with painting, and later, he learned how to make furniture. He even took advantage of company-offered English lessons so he could communicate well with American visitors. Every morning, he attended devotions, and each week, he attended a Bible study that strengthened his faith.

As time went on, training turned into meaningful employment, spiritual encouragement, mentorship, and a bright, new future.

As Peterson began earning money, he was able to help his mother, filling him with purpose. He diligently saved 10% of one year’s income to qualify for the employee house build program.

His ability to provide allowed him to take the next steps in life.

Today, Peterson is a loving husband and involved father to three children. He works hard to care for his family and dedicates Saturdays to helping his wife.

Currently, Peterson is the head block-machine operator, helping other families experience the same hope and dignity he experienced. He and his wife own a safe and secure home, built by our team. Having made each of the blocks, helped build the furniture, and put the roof on the house himself, it remains one of his greatest accomplishments.

Through the faithfulness of God and the generosity of His people, the cycle of poverty in Peterson’s family is breaking.
