We have watched her grow in confidence, faith, and purpose, and today, she is dreaming not only of a career in health care, but of returning to her community to serve others. Imagine working for three straight days,

breaking and collecting stones in a quarry, only to earn the equivalent of one U.S. dollar.

For Makula and her family, this wasn’t an abstract poverty statistic; it was their everyday reality. Before she started school, her parents struggled endlessly just to cover basic living costs, making the prospect of paying for an education feel nearly impossible.

Then, came a turning point.

Through a scholarship at a nearby Christian School, supported by Lifesong, Makula’s life took a completely new direction. She shares,

“I am very thankful to Lifesong for having chosen me, to support me and to nurture me into the right person that God intends me to be.”

The scholarship lifted the heavy financial burden off her parents’ shoulders and gave Makula a safe, supportive place to learn and grow.

At school, holistic, Gospel-centered care and education is the center of everything they do. For Makula, the spiritual encouragement has been just as vital as her studies.

The daily Bible lessons have grounded her in faith, a key part of her growth that she feels she wouldn’t have found anywhere else.

Makula is determined to uplift the people around her.

Growing up, she watched her family and neighbors suffer from unaddressed eye conditions, completely unaware that treatment was possible. Inspired by their struggle, Makula has set a clear goal for her career: she wants to become an ophthalmologist.

By specializing in eye care, Makula hopes to return to her community and provide the medical support her family and neighbors have gone without for so long.

Her journey is a powerful reminder of what happens when a child is given a chance.

With the right support, hardship doesn’t have to define a child’s future, it can become the foundation for a life dedicated to serving others.

Bekah did not say yes. She said fine.

By then, she and her husband, Brian, had already walked through one miraculous adoption and one deeply painful disruption. They had prayed, sacrificed, loved a child they believed might become their son—and then watched the adoption fall apart.

Bekah was heartbroken.

Done sounded reasonable.

But when their attorney asked whether they wanted to remain available for another adoption, Brian hesitated to close the door completely.

“If we say no, we don’t leave room for God to work.”

Bekah couldn’t argue with that.

So she said fine.

And sometimes, apparently, God can do quite a lot with fine.

Adoption had been part of Brian and Bekah’s conversations since the beginning of their marriage.

Bekah’s mother had been adopted, and Brian had grown up with adopted friends. So after welcoming two biological sons, Brian and Bekah began seriously exploring adoption in 2020.

And then the world shut down.

They eventually scheduled a phone consultation with a local adoption attorney. They were told they could wait a year or longer.

Three days later, the attorney’s office called with a potential match.

There was only one problem: Brian and Bekah hadn’t even hired the attorney yet. They had no completed home study. No fundraising plan. No carefully prepared adoption fund.

Yet one month later to the day after that first phone call, they left a Louisiana hospital with their daughter.

Her name means favor and grace.

Because the adoption happened so quickly, Brian and Bekah said yes without knowing how they would pay for it.

Through Lifesong, they received a matching grant and fundraising support. Friends and family stepped in. Bekah’s boss learned how much they needed to meet the match and wrote a check.

The resources followed the yes.

But their next yes would end differently.

When an opportunity arose to adopt another child—a biological sibling of their daugher—Brian and Bekah jumped in. They prayed. Their boys prayed. And they sacrificed financially to begin bringing another child into their family.

Then the adoption disrupted.

“It wasn’t about just having a child,” they explained. “It was about welcoming that child.”

This time, the answer hurt. They had to learn—and teach their children—that a painful ending does not necessarily mean God was absent from the story.

“It didn’t work out the way we wanted,” Bekah says. “But that doesn’t mean God wasn’t there.”

They still believe their yes was worth it. Bekah shares—

“If we wait until everything’s just right and perfect and always going to work out, we’ll never do anything.”

Yet it was painful.

So when their attorney reached out again and asked whether they wanted to stay on the list, Bekah was ready to be finished. Brian said, Let’s leave the door open.

Bekah said fine.

Today, Brian and Bekah have five children.

Their home is filled with everything you would expect: school schedules, sibling arguments, laughter, adoption-day traditions, Cajun food and Detroit-style pizza.

They are a family. A loud, complicated, ordinary, extraordinary family.

Three adopted children joined their home, but across those adoptions and the disrupted adoptions, Lifesong came alongside Brian and Bekah four separate times. Bekah shares—

“We definitely had the heart to do it, but we didn’t have the resources.”

And maybe that’s part of what makes their story so powerful.

Their story story is not an argument that everyone should adopt. It’s a story of what can happen when we leave room for God to work.

Sometimes that looks like a brave, wholehearted yes. And sometimes, after disappointment and heartbreak, it looks a little more like Bekah’s fine.

And today, three children are growing up in the ordinary rhythms of family—siblings around the table, parents in the bleachers, birthdays celebrated, traditions repeated, and a home where they and their brothers belong.

Maybe that’s the beautiful thing about fine. It isn’t always certainty. It isn’t even always enthusiasm. Sometimes it’s simply enough willingness to leave the door cracked open for whatever God might do next.

And God can do an awful lot with fine.

As we look at the lives of children in Cambodia, we are reminded of God’s grace and the hope He brings into difficult circumstances. Each day, we have the privilege of watching children find safety, grow in their faith, and discover gifts and dreams they may not have had the opportunity to pursue before.

We are especially grateful for the ways God is working through Lifesong to provide more than a safe place to live. Through education, discipleship, and loving care, children are learning that their past does not define their future and that they have a purpose in God’s story.

For Narin, home was not always a place of safety.

Growing up, he watched his parents fight often. Drugs and alcohol made the conflict worse, and his basic needs were frequently neglected.

But God was writing a different story for Narin.

When Narin was 13, our team in Cambodia came to his village and shared the Gospel. Through Lifesong, Narin was given a safe place to live at our ministry in Cambodia where he found the care and stability he needed to grow.

“I am thankful to God for giving me an opportunity to live here. I have plenty of food, a safe place to live, and it is close by school.”

At our ministry in Cambodia, Narin has found more than safety.

He is growing in his understanding of God’s Word and has discovered the hope found in His grace.

Narin’s favorite thing to read about is God’s grace because it truly touches his heart. He loves that God’s grace can save us from sin and give us eternal life.

With stability came an opportunity to discover his gifts.

Now 15 and in 8th grade, Narin earned the eighth-highest test scores in his class of 45 students. Physics is his favorite subject, and his teacher says he is the best student in her class. He even enjoys helping other students learn.

Now, Narin dreams of becoming a physics teacher one day.

His past does not have the final word. Because of God’s grace, Narin can look toward the future with hope.

As he prepares for high school, we are excited to see how God continues to grow Narin’s faith, develop his gifts, and lead him toward the future He has planned.

We are grateful to share Kelitah’s story with you. She first arrived at New Day at just six years old, and we have had the joy of watching her grow into a young woman who is pursuing her dreams and trusting God with her future.

New Day is more than a place to live. It is a home where children are loved, given the opportunity to learn, and encouraged to know Jesus. Kelitah’s life is a beautiful reminder of God’s steadfast faithfulness and the lasting impact of a safe place to grow.

At just six years old,

Kelitah had already experienced more loss than most children could imagine. After both her parents died, she went to live with her grandmother in a village. She doesn’t remember much from that time. She doesn’t remember going to school. And she had no idea what her future would hold.

Then, in 2011, Kelitah and her three-year-old sister arrived at New Day.

It was the beginning of a new chapter.

Kelitah shares,

“I was taken out of the most unfortunate and unpredictable lifestyle. And, in turn, was given a new life where you grow up believing God has a plan for you.”

Kelitah was the second girl to arrive at New Day. As she grew up, she received an education, a safe place to call home, and a community that cared for her.

One night after a prayer and praise service, Kelitah gave her life to Jesus.

What began as lessons about God became a personal relationship with Him, shaping the way she now approaches life.

“I try not to view God as just part of my life, but rather as the center that influences how I treat others and make choices in my everyday life.”

Through every season, Kelitah has seen God’s steadfast presence in her life.

From the uncertainty of her childhood to the opportunities she has today, she has learned to trust that God is working even when she cannot see what comes next.

Today, Kelitah is 21 and studying Law at the University of Lusaka. She dreams of becoming a professor of Law and, one day, returning to New Day as a sponsor so she can give back to the place that invested so much in her.

Her future looks very different from what it might have been.

Now, as she nears the end of University, Kelitah is trusting God with the decisions ahead. She doesn’t know exactly where He will lead her, but she knows He has been faithful every step of the way.

“I’ve grown up learning to always see the goodness of God in all situations. I can testify that when it comes to my life, God is fully in control.”

Kelitah’s story is a beautiful picture of God’s steadfast faithfulness. The little gorl who arrived at New Day with an uncertain future has grown into a young woman with a purpose, a calling, and a desire to help others discover the same hope she found.

Her story is still being written. And she knows who holds the pen.

Iulian doesn’t have much memory of his family.

When he was just one year old, living in Moldova, his father killed his mother. And with no relatives able to take him in, he was sent to live in an orphanage.

His earliest memories are not of bedtime stories or family dinners or someone waiting at the door for him to come home. They are of learning very young how to navigate a world that often felt uncertain.

“As children, we wanted to climb a tree or just do fun things outside,” he remembers of the orphanage. “And we would get punished every time.”

And when prospective adoptive parents came? He remembers workers discouraging them.

“They would say things like, ‘Oh no, he’s too problematic. It’s not worth it to adopt him because he will not make it.'”

For a child already wondering whether anyone in the world might choose him, those words carried enormous weight.

After fourth grade, Iulian was transferred to another orphanage.

Everyone had the same buzz cut. There was little structure. Children destroyed things. Older kids preyed on younger ones. Survival shaped nearly every part of daily life.

Iulian watched children learn behaviors that would follow many of them into adulthood.

“The greatest trauma was not having enough food.”

Older children would take food from younger ones, leaving the smallest children with nothing.

Iulian would wrap his arm around his plate while eating, guarding his food.

He describes those years with one sentence:

“I felt like I was a child stuck in a cage.”

As we look back on another school year in Ethiopia, our hearts are full of gratitude. We have seen God’s faithfulness in our schools, in the lives of our students, and through the generosity of our entire school community.

This year has been filled with moments worth celebrating. From students growing in confidence and maturity to teachers, parents, and students coming together to care for families in need.

We are especially grateful for the opportunity to see our students learn that education is not only about gaining knowledge, but also about becoming people who serve others and reflect the love of Christ. Thank you for standing with us as we pour into the next generation.

Another school year is complete in Ethiopia,

and we’re looking back with grateful hearts at all God has done.

We are deeply grateful to God for His faithfulness throughout the year. By His grace, all Lifesong Ethiopia schools have successfully completed the academic year.

These celebrations were more than the end of another school year. They were a beautiful picture of growth.

During two of the closing ceremonies, including a high school program, we had the opportunity to watch students share presentations that reflected how far they’ve come.

Their confidence, maturity, and growth were evident, not only in what they had learned academically, but in who they were becoming.

Holistic education is about more than what happens inside a classroom.

It is about nurturing the whole child—academically, spiritually, emotionally, and relationally—and preparing students to use what God has given them to serve others.

This year, we saw that truth come to life in a remarkable way.

One of the greatest highlights of the school year was not found on a stage or in a classroom. It was found in the generosity.

Teachers, students, parents, and staff came together to raise nearly 1,000,000 Ethiopian Birr to help vulnerable families.

Because of their generosity:

• 254 families received 40 kg of corn and 3 L of cooking oil
• 9 families received 1 year of medical insurance coverage

This was not simply a fundraising effort. It was an opportunity for the students we serve to live out the love of Christ in practical ways.

As another school year closes, we are reminded that education can create far-reaching impact.

Students are growing in knowledge and confidence, but they are also learning what it means to love their neighbors, serve others, and reflect Christ wherever God leads them.

We praise God for His provision throughout this school year and for the growing culture of generosity and service on our campus.

What a joy to see God shaping not only students’ futures—but their hearts—by using them to bless others along the way.

We’ve seen how God can use even the smallest moments to bring healing. For Maya, one of those moments happened in our boutique, where a simple choice reminded her that her voice matters.

When Maya arrived at our campus in Guatemala,

she carried almost nothing. A small bag. A baby on her hip. And years of hurt.

Maya spent much of her childhood trying to survive ongoing abuse and neglect. By the age of 12, she was already a mother who had learned that her needs don’t matter and that her voice doesn’t always have a place.

But, with our team in Guatemala, she began to learn something different.

She matters.

And for Maya, that lesson began with something as simple as a choice.

At Village of Hope, donated clothing isn’t handed out from piles or bins. Every piece is washed, sorted, folded, and carefully displayed in our boutique. Dresses hang on racks. Shoes are organized by size. Children are given options, not leftovers.

So when Maya walked through the boutique, she wasn’t simply given clothes.

She was asked, “What do you like?”

For perhaps the first time, someone wanted to know what she wanted.

She chose the colors she loved. She picked out clothes that made her smile. She stood in front of the mirror and saw more than a survivor.

She saw someone whose choices matter.

Because dignity is found in the details.

For children who have experienced trauma, abuse, or neglect, so much has been taken from them—including their sense of identity and control over their own lives.

Providing food, shelter, education, and counseling is essential, but healing also means restoring dignity.

It means giving children a voice.
It means reminding them that their preferences matter.
It means helping them discover who God created them to be.

Today, Maya is going to school, receiving counseling, raising her baby in safety, and continuing to heal.

And it all began with a simple reminder:

You matter. Your voice matters. You are made in God’s image.

Lucson’s story is one we are grateful to share. We have watched him grow from a young student into a dedicated employee, university graduate, and provider for his family. His journey has not been without hardship, but through each season, we have seen his faith and perseverance shine through. For much of his life, Lucson has known what it means to keep going.

Born in Haiti, Lucson grew up in a family of six children. His father worked as a fisherman, and his mother ran a small shop in their community. Money was often tight, and sending every child to school was difficult.

But through the support from a family in the United States, Lucson was able to complete both primary and secondary education.

During his teenage years, he also made the decision that would shape the rest of his life:

He accepted Jesus and was baptized in his church.

His faith became an important foundation as he continued to navigate the challenges and opportunities ahead.

After finishing school, Lucson began working with our team in Haiti, making compressed earth blocks.

But his journey didn’t stop there.

Through the education program, Lucson attended university for four years and earned a degree in administration.

After graduating, he continued developing his leadership skills through a program offered by his church.

Today, he helps manage important responsibilities for our ministry in Haiti. From visiting the bank and receiving shipments at the airport to purchasing supplies and vehicle parts.

The path hasn’t always been easy.

Lucson’s family has experienced threats and opposition in their community. At one point, people chased and threatened his brother, forcing him and his friends to flee to safety.

Then, last year, Lucson experienced another heartbreaking loss when his mother passed away after an illness.

Still, he continues to move forward.

Today, Lucson is focused on creating opportunities not only for himself, but for his family. He is working to grow the business at his home so that his siblings can earn an income and provide for themselves.

He hopes for a family of his own someday. He is praying that God will bring a godly woman into his life and trusting Him with what comes next.

“Lifesong’s team has done so much for my family and for me. I cannot imagine where I would be without this ministry.”

Through education, employment, loss, and uncertainty, Lucson continues to trust God and build toward the future.

His story is a picture of steadfastness; remaining faithful, continuing forward, and trusting that God is still at work.

When Mason first came to us, he carried more than a difficult story. He believed he had been forgotten. But when we welcomed him into our school and walked alongside him, we saw hope begin to grow. Some children are born into loving homes,

others are born into survival. For Mason*, childhood was defined by survival.

Born out of wedlock, Mason was abandoned at a young age and left to live on the streets. He begged for food just to make it through the day and slept on the bare ground at night.

No child should have to wonder where their next meal will come from. No child should have to face the night without someone to protect them. But this was Mason’s reality.

The streets came at a devastating loss; Without shelter or medical care, Mason contracted tuberculosis.

Years of hunger, neglect, and exposure left his body week and vulnerable. To the world, he may have seemed forgotten.

But God had not forgotten Mason.

In 2023, our team in Zambia welcomed Mason into school. For the first time, he found people who chose to care for him day after day and hope began to take root.

Through Lifesong’s feeding program, Mason began receiving consistent, nutritious meals. His body was finally given the nourishment it needed to recover from tuberculosis and years of deprivation.

But Lifesong’s care went beyond meeting his physical needs.

A dedicated caregiver began walking alongside Mason, giving him the love, stability, and encouragement he had never known.

Then came education.

Mason had a lot of catching up to do. But his teachers patiently walked with him, helping him discover that he was capable of learning.

The little boy who once spent his days searching for food began to discover something new.

But perhaps the greatest change wasn’t happening in the classroom.

It was happening in his heart.

Through Lifesong’s discipleship program, Mason encountered the love of a Heavenly Father who had never abandoned him. Mentors prayed with him, encouraged him, and faithfully shared God’s Word with him.

The boy who once believed he was forgotten began to see that God had never forgotten him.

Today, Mason can look back on where he came from and see how God has been faithful. Mason shared,

“I used to think nobody cared if I lived or died, now I know God loves me, and I have people who love me too.”

His story is a reminder that sometimes, hope begins with something as simple as a meal.

It can look like a caregiver who stays.

A teacher who patiently believes in a child.

A mentor who prays.

A place where a child can finally feel safe.

His story reminds us that when God’s people respond with compassion, He transforms lives—not only for today, but for eternity.
