Gary Sinise and the Lt Dan Band

I had a great time last night at this show. Gary Sinise (of television's CSI: New York) and his band, The Lt. Dan Band (named after his popularly known character in Forrest Gump) played for the first time in Portsmouth, VA. Portsmouth is the home of the world's largest US Navy base. This show was one of their earliest stops for the Lt. Dan Band’s Building for America’s Bravest 2013 Benefit Concert Tour.

The band played a lot of popular hit songs ranging from the 70s to modern music. I was very impressed with them, especially the singers. They all took turns doing back up vocals and solos, entertaining us with a variety of performing and musical styles. Some of them also played musical instruments! They're a very talented bunch!

Gary Sinise played bass guitar, and although he didn't do the vocals for the songs, he played on every song - except for the drum solo, of course. Man, that guy never rested!! What energy and enthusiasm! He also introduced all the band members after they did their solos or performances. He also did some hosting, giving us all a clear background story on the band.

I attended the show with my family and sat in the general covered area (which isn't too far from the stage). Even though the ushers told us we could go up to the front area which was within the first twenty rows closest to the stage, we just stayed where we were because the floor was at a nice angle to see the stage well and we didn't have to worry about the kids having tinnitus after the show. (I already suffer from tinnitus from all the rock concerts and shows I've gone to on my own...no need to put the kids through that!)

The show lasted about two hours long...but there was never a dull moment!!! If this band stops by your town, you should check them out. The band tours to raise awareness and aid for the The Gary Sinise Foundation, the Wounded Warrior Project and other non-profits that help America's wounded veterans and their families. Waiting for Thor: The Dark World

The follow up to Thor is scheduled to be released in US movie theaters on November 8, 2013. My first thought about this is MAN, the WAIT seems FOREVER!!!

When Marvel revealed this new trailer the other week, I was just awestruck! It looks like the movie continues where the first movie left off and adds even more excitement to the mix.

I am so thrilled to see the original cast back in their same roles, especially Natalie Portman and Chris Hemsworth!!! They are amazing actors!!!

My second thought about all this is...I guess while I wait for the movie to come out in US theaters, I will have to entertain myself with any additional trailers that may be released...and any more still pictures that I can manage to google online just like these:

(Sigh!) Maybe I'll have to get out my Blu-Ray of the first THOR movie and just watch it over and over until the next movie is out...

ABachalypse LIVE!

So I finally got my ABachalypse Now Ultimate CD/DVD set in the mail the other day... Rightaway, I ripped off the plastic wrapping, turned on my home theater system, and put in the DVD! Boy, it was awesome, I tell ya!!! It was like being there in concert, except without the screaming, sweaty crowd pushing each other around me.

I even took pictures with my cell phone (just for fun) as if I were really at the concert...LOL!

Yeah, really...if I could have gone to Sebastian Bach's concert for REAL, I would've wanted to be right there...side of the stage...really close to him and the band. (Sigh!)

I wouldn't have wanted to be out here in the crowd, barely able to see over the tall people's heads. Even with the highest heels I've got, I wouldn't have been able to see enough of Sebastian Bach to feel satisfied.

Seriously speaking though, in regards to the CD/DVD set itself, I really enjoyed ABachalypse Now. The time and effort they took to engineer it and edit it shows in its excellence. The live concert quality (audience sounds and interaction) was still there but the noise effect was minimized enough to make the home viewing experience comfortable. Sebastian's performance was great in all concert sets included. After 28 years of performing as a musician and on stage, Sebastian Bach still has a mountain of energy inside him. I wonder if he doesn't ever just want to pass out after a concert...or if he never drains out of energy.

All the band members and guest musicians worked incredibly well together in the performances that were chosen for this concert DVD. Nick Sterling, who (unfortunately) was fired by Bach in August 2012, does show some mad skillz with his guitar. My only criticism is that I wished he could've been a little more active onstage than he was. I've seen many other guitarists make their presence well-known onstage by moving around more with the music, interacting more with the lead singer, and by really moving around more onstage so the audience can watch (and listen) from different angles. In comparison, I enjoyed the portions where Jinxx from Black Veil Brides jammed with the band. Now his performance is one where you can say he was there as more than just a guitarist. And that's kind of what I would've liked to see Nick Sterling do. Oh well!

Overall, I think this CD/DVD set - ABachalypse Now is actually worth way more than the price most places charge for it (mine came from Amazon). If you like Sebastian Bach and enjoy his music now (or even from when he was with Skid Row), you really ought to get yourself a copy of this concert CD/DVD set. It's a MUST-HAVE item!!!

P!nk Love

Out of all the young female pop stars, I like P!nk the best. I like her, not just for her music, but also because she possesses the maturity to know how to accept life's imperfections, to deal with problematic situations, and to be able to work things out to make relationships that matter work.

Her relationship with her husband, professional motocross racer, Carey Hart, has had its share of ups and downs - including a separation in 2008 - but they got back together and even started a family. Most other famous celebrities their ages just don't even bother to try to make their relationships - let alone, marriage - work out anymore these days. But these two...they sure are managing their priorities and proving to the world that just because you're young and tattooed, that doesn't mean you're irresponsible and selfish.

Unlike Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera, whom she has often been compared with, P!nk has managed to avoid getting in the media for crazy things like public drunkenness, jail time, or forgetting to put on underwear before leaving the house.

Anyway, here's a song I hear a lot of radio airplay. I think this is very inspirational...just listen to it.

18 and Life with Sebastian Bach

So first thought this Tuesday - I am soooooo excited about this new video premiere on Monday on UltimateClassicRock.com's website. It's a concert version of Sebastian Bach performing his old Skid Row classic, 18 and Life. I've been a big fan of Sebastian Bach ever since his days with Skid Row. He's one of those singers that I don't think heavy metal and hard rock could ever be without.

Here's that video I've been watching over and over...(hehehe)...

Now my second thought - I can't wait for my pre-order of Abachalypse Now [Live, 2CD+DVD] to come in! In case you're not into this kind of music, that is Sebastian Bach's latest album, his first solo live CD and DVD package. Entitled “ABachalypse Now” this double CD / DVD includes never-before-seen footage from 2012’s GrasPop Festival in Belgium, the full never-before-seen Hellfest set from France and the fully-remixed and remastered Club Nokia show from Los Angeles (originally broadcasted on AXS TV). Sorry, I copied that description off Sebastian Bach's website. I wanted to be sure I described it as completely and amazingly as possible. Maybe enough to make you want to check it out!

Two Thoughts...Two Exciting Things

Ok, so I've been getting a little lazy about blogging lately. I have to admit...I feel like I don't have enough time to do everything I want to do these days. I don't know if it's because the winter days are so short or if it's because I'm giving myself too many things to do.

I feel like that girl in the picture, surrounded by so many books she doesn't know where to start. LOL!

Hmm...maybe I just need to take some things off my to-do-today list and drop them into my bucket list for later.

Anyway, I did get two exciting things happen this past week-end. First off, I got to see Bruce Willis's most recent Die Hard movie - A Good Day to Die Hard. That was one really LOUD film!!!

I guess I need to review some of the older movies because I really didn't pay much attention to John McClane's children in the earlier movies. So when I saw this new movie, I was really quite surprised that they were so grown up already. His daughter grew up to be lovely and sweet like her mom. And their son - see that hottie in the middle? - he grew up to be a magnet for danger and action just like good ole John McClane.

Compared to the earlier Die Hard movies, I don't actually think this last one was as great as the earlier ones but as a Die Hard fan, I love it anyway!!!

Speaking of movies with sequels, my favorite young vampires from Forks, Washington have all five movies out on Blu-Ray/DVD now. Yes, yes, Twilighters! And lucky me, my hubby came through on his promise to get me the full set once it became available! See below a picture of my new 5-disc Blu-Ray collection of the Twilight Saga:

So I finally watched (at long last) the final installment of the saga...but I'll just have to find time between watching and rewatching my new movies to blog about them. Two Thoughts on Art

I was going thru the news feeds on Facebook when I saw this really uniquely carved watermelon. My first thought is it just amazes me to see how creative some people can get with the most unexpected materials. Imagine every year we carve pumpkins for Halloween and maybe try to get really fancy with it. But imagine carving a watermelon! I think works like these are just awesome!

Fruits are one thing...but what about ice?

I can't believe anyone would be able to carve out ice or put together blocks of ice in this fashion, even adding lights to make it look like a real liveable building! Isn't that something?

Oh that Frosty the Snowman in your yard has nothing on this snow sculpture of mythical creatures!

And when summer comes and we're headed out to the beaches again...try not to build your miniscule sandcastles next to someone making a sand sculpture like this!!!

Seeing how these artists have pursued creativity using such uncommon media reminded me of my elementary school days. (That's actually my second thought). I think back to when I first started school. I don't really remember how I learned to read and write, but I sure do remember all those art projects I was taught to make.

One project I remember spending a lot of time on involved rolling up strips of newspaper into stringable "beads", gluing them together, and painting them after they dried up. After I made enough beads, I strung them together into a bead curtain. Those things were soooooo popular back in the 1970s.

I think I spent more time on it than we were actually required to for school because I wanted to make a bead curtain for my mom to decorate in our house. I knew how much she loved decorating. :)

Grammy 2013 Best and Worst-Dressed

I have to agree with the critics that declared Jennifer Lopez the worst-dressed celebrity at last night's Grammy Awards ceremony. She has absolutely no sense of style if she thought this was appropriate for an evening awards show. You could throw on a bath towel and you couldn't tell the if it was part of this "ensemble" or not.

Seriously...she looks like she just got out of the shower (with her hair balled up on top) and couldn't find anything to put on so she grabbed a long black sheet and just draped it over her shoulder. If you didn't know it was an actual cloth, you would think she was dripping in crude oil. The dress designer must really hate J-Lo to have convinced her to dress up in this!

Carrie Underwood, on the other hand, was the epitome of elegance and grace in this stunning black strapless gown. She looked simply outstanding and prepared for this event. Kudos, Carrie Underwood!!! We wish more celebrities would dress as tastefully and beautifully as you.

To Tweet or Not To Tweet

Okay, my first thought this Tuesday is not just a thought but a gripe! I just don't get it. Why do former child stars find it necessary to pose half-naked for the world to prove they are not children anymore? Do they think we're such a stupid society that we can't tell a grown up from a child in other ways than seeing their private body parts?

Did you see that photo of Miley Cyrus on the cover of Cosmo - which is already well-known for very racy articles and pictures, catering to women who want to become more sexually attractive? We see enough of her going out with her fiance/married-in-their-hearts-husband, Liam Hemsworth. We see enough of her dressed up as a woman at movie openings, awards shows, and other very public events. Does she still need to prove she's grown up by posing for pictures like that?

Seriously...what are they thinking?

My second thought...I've been trying out Twitter just because it's there. See, I even have a Follow Me on Twitter link on the right! I've had a maximum of 20 followers and then it dropped down to 17, not that it matters to me. I'm not aiming to get as many followers as all these famous celebrity tweeters.

I've mainly just been experimenting with it to see what it's like, share some health-related articles I come across, and promote health-related topics from the nutritional company that I work for part-time.

After using it for the past couple months, I must say - I still don't get! Really. I understand how to tweet, how to get others to see your tweets, and how to follow others. With just the 44 Tweeters I follow, I already feel the information (the tweets) just come in so randomly that there's no real organization. Unless someone follows a particular tweeter or tweet topic very closely (to the point of feeling like a stalker), I don't see how these tweeters even have all these publicized conversations with each other.

I guess my brain is still wired for receiving information in a more organized fashion...like in a magazine or in a newspaper. I can handle news feeds with topics organized by categories and followed by some short intro to the news. I can then decide if I want to click on the rest of the article to read more, or just skim through the other feeds until something interests me.

Maybe Twitter is useful if you like to tweet - make noise like a bird and get attention. But I don't think it's really useful if you're looking for news feeds. Can someone convince me otherwise? It's so much easier (in my opinion) to just follow a website's RSS or Atom feeds instead of tweets. I've got my Google Reader and my Yahoo Reader feeds which I use for following blogs and other websites. And they work on portable devices as well as on a desktop computer.

I'll need a lot more convincing before I decide to become a more serious or more frequent Twitter user. For now, I'll stick to my old ways of getting news. Boy Meets World, World Meet Girl!

What a cutie! I think the producers fond the perfect young girl to play Cory and Topanga's daughter on a spin-off of Boy Meets World, effectively titled Girl Meets World. The spin-off will be shown on the Disney Channel. Her cute smile just matches perfectly with Topanga's own cuteness!

This young star's name is Rowan Blanchard and we've already seen her in several popular movies. In fact, you may remember her as Rebecca Wilson in Spy Kids: All the Time in the World in 4D (released in 2011). She also played Mona's kid in 2010's The Back-up Plan.

Girl Meets World promises to be exciting. For those who enjoyed Boy Meets World while they were growing up, your kids will surely enjoy Girl Meets World which will tell Cory and Topanga's continuing story from the point of view of their daughter.

Another Two Thoughts on Tuesday

Here's Thought Number One: There's another series of books that I've gotten hooked on reading this year. I've been reading Lauren Kate's FALLEN series which is a love story about a mortal teenage girl, Lucinda Price, and a mesmerizingly handsome fallen angel, Daniel Grigori.

Yeah, the first thing that came to my mind when I started reading the books was City of Angels. Remember that heartbreaking movie starring Nicolas Cage and Meg Ryan? He was a fallen angel there, too. But unlike City of Angels, Daniel was a high-ranking angel who went against commands and went after this beautiful young Lucinda.

As his punishment, he became ~~damned~~ doomed to a lifetime of falling in love with the same girl but losing her every 17 years. And what makes it difficult is that she is reincarnated into a different person each time. So she is never the same person and they fall in love but can never be together. The story is complicated by fighting between the angels and demons, and twists that make you think twice before you trust anyone.

I don't want to give away too much about the story. Besides, I'm not done reading the books yet so I can't say too much about it yet. I'm still in the middle of the second book, effectively titled TORMENT because of the torment these two star-crossed lovers are having to experience in their efforts to be together.

Here's Thought Number Two: I thought it was kinda cool that Michael J. Fox stated that he does NOT want Taylor Swift dating his adult son. Yeah, I know he may claim now that he was just joking about it, but knowing the kind of respectable celebrity that he is, I'm willing to bet he actually meant it at the time he said it.

After all, he's been married to the same woman, the mother of his children, for over 20 years and endured health challenges (his Parkinson's disease) along the way. So he and Tracy Pollan are the rare showbiz couple that have stood the test of time. I would think that they expect that their relationship wisdom has had some effect on their children...and be wise enough to steer clear of someone who has a very well-known habit of kissing and telling via songwriting!

Don't get me wrong, Taylor Swift fans (doubt you're reading my mostly rock music blog anyway), I think Taylor Swift is pretty and has some really catchy, cute songs that a lot of people can probably relate to (not me, though).

But when it comes to romance, I think she's either playing the field or she's like a chronically compulsive teenager who keeps falling in love with falling in love...and you know, because of her "I'm sweet and innocent" kind of public persona, none of the guys she dates will ever say anything negative about her after the break up.

So call me a Taylor Swift hater if you must, but I just think any guy who dates her should date her with the understanding that the relationship will never last...get it? Never ever ever ever going to last.

Adam Gontier Leaving 3DG

Yes, sadly, the rumors are true...Adam is leaving Three Days Grace.

Below is the OFFICIAL release from the band.

We appreciate everyone’s concern about Three Days Grace. We found out on December 21st that Adam wished to resign from the band. In a letter to us Adam indicated that he was resigning from the band due to a non life threatening health issue and wanted the band to continue moving forward without him. We were as shocked as many of you were to hear the news. Three Days Grace has always been and will continue to be not only our job but our passion. Instead of cancelling the tour, we felt an obligation to you, the fans, to forge ahead and put on the best show we can. Brad recently reached out to his brother Matt Walst, lead singer for My Darkest Days to fill in for the tour dates already announced. We've been hanging out and rehearsing with Matt and look forward to rocking the stage in a few weeks! As of right now, Matt's role is temporary and as far as the future and beyond this tour, we are taking it one day at a time. - 3DG

That's Matt Walst rocking the stage with My Darkest Days. I've watched him perform live when his band was touring with HINDER. I think he has enough energy and stage presence to fill Adam's shoes for the remainder of 3DG's scheduled tour. Like any devoted Adam Gontier fan, though, he's not gonna be the same! But as a Three Days Grace fan, I can only hope for the best!!! Keep on rocking, guys!!!

Two Movies I Look Forward To In 2013

First of all, I hope everyone had a safe New Year's Eve celebration and getting 2013 off to a good start. What a year we had in 2012, didn't we? The year was very full of activity for me outside of my "dreamz" blog which resulted in less frequent posts compared to previous years. (Sorry, fans - didn't mean to keep you hanging). But it's been great - and I'm very thankful to have the opportunities I've had to do the things I got to do in 2012, thankful for the people that have faith in my abilities, and thankful for the moral support I've received in the process. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Enough about me! The outlook for 2013 looks very exciting entertainment-wise. Man of Steel (starring Immortal's Henry Cavill as Superman) comes out in June. It's been a long time since anyone has dared to make another Superman movie that takes on a different look at the superhero most of us Generation X-ers have pretty much grew up knowing as best played by the late Christopher Reeve.

I viewed the movie trailer for it and I think it looks really promising. Not to mention, Henry Cavill has become really impressive with his dramatic acting abilities as we've seen him in 2011's Immortals, as Charles Brandon in The Tudors (2007-2010), and most recently in The Cold Light of Day. He's even being eyed by fans as a possible choice to play Christian Grey in The Fifty Shades of Grey movie (if that ever gets off the ground!).

Next, I've blogged about The Hunger Games Trilogy after reading it and I've blogged about the first movie, The Hunger Games starring Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, and Liam Hemsworth. If you haven't read the books or watched the first movie, you are missing out on one of the best youth-oriented dramas ever made. The cast members played their roles so convincingly well, you feel like you are drawn into the story. You feel their suffering and start to wonder how a once progressive society could become so divided and so become so devoid of humanism. And as a parent, you'd wonder how people could let this happen to their children year after year.

So you can imagine why I look forward to the second movie installment of the series, Catching Fire. Too bad we have to wait till close to the end of the year for it. But I suppose there's more going on behind the scenes in the making of the movie...which I am going to trust means that the wait is gonna be super worth it!!!

Two Thoughts Tuesday

My first thought this Tuesday is what an great-looking kid Channing Tatum and his wife, Jenna Dewan-Tatum are going to have! Did you hear the news? Yes, People Magazine's Sexiest Man Alive is gonna be the Sexiest Daddy, too!

Speaking of having children, I hope it'll be a long while before this young star decides to have children.

Seriously, her behavior seems to be changing more erratically than her hairstyle these days. And with all the crazy things going on in today's society, I just think that before someone becomes a parent, that person ought to really know themselves, what they want in life, and just basically be able to think maturely enough to handle what comes next. Not that Miley is planning to become one soon, but I just don't think Miley Cyrus really knows herself well enough at this point to even be in a serious relationship.

Two Short Thoughts for Tuesday

First of all, I wanted to say - Tuesday is going to be a warm 71 degrees in my area. Can you believe that?! Just when we got some nice new log racks to hold our winter-long supply of firewood in the backyard! We were so looking forward to being able to use up that firewood this year. We have so much leftover firewood from two previous winters that didn't end up being cold enough to use them. Oh well, it isn't officially winter yet, so I guess I should give Mother Nature more time to let us use up that firewood!

My next thought this week is how cute I think Dannielynn Birkhead looks and how she just appears destined for the camera. After all, her father, Larry Birkhead was a celebrity photographer when he met Dannielynn's mother, Anna Nicole Smith.

I hear people complaining about it. Really? Why? Her parent(s) have every right to allow her to model as they (in this case, her father) see fit. Besides that, the modeling photos we've seen so far look very playful and natural - as fun as any child her age should and can look. I think, that after all the controversy and painful legal challenges Larry Birkhead experienced before winning recognition as the child's true birth father, we can only hope he has gained enough wisdom to protect his daughter from the dangers of growing up in showbiz. Besides that, I'm pretty sure he wouldn't want her to end up exactly like her mother and brother.

The Grinch Returns

Ha-ha! Actually no, there's not another remake (that I know of) of The Grinch but the season that the Grinch story is all about is back! So after a long day of raking (actually we used a blower but we have a really big yard and lots of trees so it took a tiring while) and putting together some stuff we got for the back yard, we decided to put on our old copy of Jim Carrey's version of Dr. Seuss' How The Grinch Stole Christmas.

Can you believe that cute little girl playing Cindy Lou Who was little Taylor Momsen? Or perhaps I should rephrase my question.

Can you believe this goth-looking, alternative rock band singer IS the SAME girl that played little Cindy Lou Who? Would you have thought she'd grow up to be such a rebel spirit and be in a band called The Pretty Reckless?

Personally, I sometimes wonder if this "style" is not just some phase that Taylor Momsen will eventually outgrow. (I certainly hope so because under that raccoon eye make up, I think she still has amazing good looks which we often see in her non-band photos). Will she ever adopt a healthy lifestyle (like quitting smoking) and save her precious youth and beauty? Or will she go down the same disastrous path that the also once cute child star Lindsay Lohan seems to be traveling?

Two Thoughts on Election Day Tuesday

My first thought this day is that it's Election Day Tuesday here in the United States. And since this is an entertainment blog and not a political blog, I won't talk about my political views, but I do want to remind all my readers who are eligible to vote, to GO OUT THERE and CAST YOUR VOTE! It's your citizen's duty and a privilege to take part in shaping our government and society. Don't be silent...let your voice be heard. And please remember to vote responsibly. Our future is at stake.

My second thought this Tuesday is about Disney's recent purchase of Lucasfilm, the maker of the legendary Star Wars movies, for $4 billion! Can you imagine that?! One gigantic, legendary company owning another.

Wow! Well, since that news was released, I've seen post after post poking some fun at it. I mean, seriously, Disney and Star Wars are "worlds apart" - yes, pun intended.

Actually I shouldn't be so surprised. Back in the late 1980's I visited Disneyland in Anaheim, California and took the Star Tours which was based on Star Wars. And that was a really fun ride! I just wonder where all my pictures went. Oh yeah, they're buried in my photo albums since we didn't have digital cameras and computers to store the images in then. LOL!

Anyway, I hope everyone enjoys the rest of this week. And enjoy the humor people find in these pictures of Star Wars characters at Disney!

Two Thoughts About 710 Oil

Back in 2008, I published a short post about one of my favorite local bands, 710 Oil. I have to admit, lately, I've slacked in posting about them and other very talented local bands. But I've been keeping up with them on their Facebook page and their band website.

My first thought this week is that it's pretty cool seeing how much national exposure 710 Oil's been getting lately. See the pic above where they posed with KISS? That's not just a Meet and Greet picture. That's the real deal when they were selected to be one of the opening bands for a recent KISS concert in Hampton Roads, VA.

In case you don't know much about 710 Oil, I can tell you that they are a very talented original music band who's very serious about making music. I've seen them perform live several times, both at smaller clubs and larger venues. This band deserves to make it big time.

My second thought is still about 710 Oil. I wanted to share with my readers this video that 710 Oil shared on their Facebook page. It's an interview on Shine TV plus some performance video that will make you wish you could see them live (that is, if you're into rock music like I am!). Check it out!!!

Two Thoughts For Tuesday

This week, I want to talk about two things that annoy me - maybe about celebrities, maybe not. Read on to find out what I'm thinking.

First of all, what's your first thought about that picture of Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher? That there's just too much PDA going on there? Maybe...but my first thought is how annoying to see someone (here it's Mila Kunis) who is sooooo attracted to this guy (Ashton Kutcher) but he obviously cares way more about his cell phone than paying attention to the person he's with. I think that's rude and insulting - and Mila Kunis is short-changing herself by sticking around with a guy like that.

I've seen people like that in real life (I mean non-celebrities). And I think that is just so sad to see couples who don't give each other the attention they deserve. Makes me kinda wonder if more couples would stay together or be happier if we didn't have so many "portable" distractions like that.

The other thing that annoys me is the Robert Pattinson-Kristen Stewart relationship thing. So maybe they did really have a relationship...and maybe they really did break up after she cheated on him in July. Does it really matter? They've got a new movie coming out next month - the final installment of the Twilight Saga. Of course, whether we want to believe it or not, they're not going to keep avoiding each other like the plague. The movie saga has made them rich and turned them into household names. They'd be pretty careless not to at least make like they've made up for the sake of pleasing their fans.

I just find it more annoying than amusing to see their relationship develop, fall apart, and then resume with the timing of their movie releases. As a fan, it just makes me feel so played...like a fool...but I'm going to see the final movie anyway. I want to see how they'll end the saga onscreen. I've followed it this far so I'm not gonna give up now.
