MTBR just posted a great wrap-up and thorough review of the current lights available to riders. While there are some companies introducing lights with even more claimed Lumens than the Seca 1400, their beam patterns are still inefficient and throw up a good percentage of unusable light far above where any rider needs to see. Out of all the test photos, the Seca 1400 is easily spotted as the brightest option giving tribute to the extensive R&D developing the best possible beam reflector.

Light and Motion Seca 1400 – at $699, this 1400 lumen light measured in at 110 lux on our meter. The standout here is how efficiently that light is utilized. It has the widest beam from close to mid range. And with 110 lux, it throws just about as far as most riders will need. And it still chops off the top of the beam pattern to avoid waste.

On the other end of the spectrum, Magicshine seems to be flickering away, apparently having cut too many corners, their products are now faced with failed batteries and chargers – and now encouraging it’s customers to “stop use immediately”

For out-and-out riding performance there is no question that the Seca 1400 wins hands-down. With a superb, smooth placement of its 1,400 lumens it was nothing short of daylight on the trail.

Check out the review our beloved Seca 1400 just received from Mountain Bike Rider over in the UK. The only light to get 10 out of 10:

“Judged on a combination of light power and placement, the Seca 1400 was definitely the favourite light among all our testers. Although it packs only 1,400 lumens compared to the 6Pack’s 1,800, the intelligent placing of the Seca’s beam actually makes it the better light off-road.

A mixture of a long-range clear lens with frosted-lens close-quarter LEDs gives the perfect light shape for trail riding, throwing most of the beam where you need it most. The near and middle distance are smoothly illuminated with brilliantly bright, wide-angled soft light, and while the spot can’t quite match the 6pack’s power, it’s more than adequate in isolation.

The battery pack Velcros securely in place and a rubber band quickly and simply wraps around the bars for a swift yet very secure fastening, which can be easily removed without leaving any unsightly clamps on your handlebars.”
