The dragan effect

The great leap was to achieve the dragan effect following the steps from a video posted on Ashley Sisk's blog. I used a doll to apply this effect, but probably a person portrait would give a better result.

The Dragan Effect is made popular by its pioneer, Andrzej Dragan, a Polish photographer (hence the name 'Dragan'). This photo effect enables you to see every last bit of texture in your portrait. It emphasizes each line, freckle, wrinkle and pore captured by the camera, giving your photo kind of dark and grungy look. It's like you're standing face to face with the subject.

According to Darcy, Cabin Fever is English slang for that pent up feeling you get when long months of bad weather have you stuck indoors.

It was hard to interpret this week's theme, since we don't have snow in Brazil, but...I supposed this photo can fit. Bored and begging to find a friend to hang out: social media just appeared to be the best place to find someone by chance, with the same need!

De acordo com Darcy, Cabin Fever é uma palavra inglesa para descrever um sentimento de desespero, que ocorre comumente quando se passa meses trancado dentro de casa, por causa de longo período chuva ou neve. Foi díficil achar uma foto que encaixasse no tema. Então encontrei essa tirada há alguns dias: tédio e a esperança de encontrar alguém dando sopa na net, para quem sabe dar umas voltinhas por aí...

Eu usei duas texturas da Kim Klassen chamadas lookup e revolution.

As flores da foto são hortênsias, lindas mas podem ser tóxicas. Elas possuem um princípio ativo que causa a cianose, se ingeridas. Sua coloração depende do pH do solo: solos ácido produzem flores azuis e solos básicos produzem flores rosas.

Esse pequeno buquê é tão bonito.

I've applied two Kim Klassen's textures: lookup and revolution.

These are hydrangeas, beautiful but moderately toxic if eaten. Its color is affected by the pH of the soil; acidic soils produce blue flowers and basic soils produce pink flowers.

This small bouquet is so pretty.

Near Bishopsgate (Liverpool St) - London

Essa foto me lembra momentos de descoberta de uma nova cultura, de uma maneira bem peculiar de ser, que mistura o novo e ultra moderno ao secular, ao antigo que conta história. Essa foto fala, é um retrato de uma cidade que preserva sua história, de uma forma muito natural. Não é uma foto muito recente, mas assim que bati os olhos nela, me trouxe tão boas recordações, recordações que ficaram impressas em mim. É como voltar no tempo e estar de novo ali em pé admirando esta construção tão rica de detalhes.

Li certa vez num blog: "(...) quem gosta de Londres não só gosta, vicia. E mesmo que a vontade de ir embora exista, e que um dia mudemos, ficaremos para sempre com o nosso coração dividido".{Lids do blog Londonices}

This picture reminds me of a discovery experience of a new culture, of a very peculiar way of being, that mixes the new and ultra modern to the secular, that tells about an old past. This picture speaks to me, it is a portrait of a city that preserves its own history, in a very natural way. It is not a recent photo, but as soon as I hit the eyes on it, it brought me such good memories, which were printed in me. It's like stepping back in time and be back standing there admiring this building so rich in details.

My main motivation is to capture my memories, moments, places and special people.

When I moved to California in 2010, I found myself alone with plenty of free time. I started taking pictures to show my family in Brazil my new life here. A while later, my sister and I started a blog, and not knowing exactly where I was getting myself into, I dived into the 365 project. What a great experience! Since then, I became passionate about photography. My sister is my great motivator and she is always sharing with me everything she learns.

I try to read photography tips on websites, and do what I like to call "photo experiences": I try new angles, lights, backgrounds, compositions, etc.

That way I keep myself excited and never bored!

Photography fascinates me because a photo it’s a chance to retain a moment and create a memory. Every time I see a photo I took it brings a particular sensation, and it also reproduces the feeling of that moment. These pictures are those that try to capture the day’s events, people, travel sights with their colors and rhythms. I also enjoy the photo that captures purely aesthetic forms, texture, light, color, plasticity of objects, flowers and plants, animals, architecture.

What motivates me is not only the record, but the history and beauty that hide behind each image. What keeps me interested is the ability to take photos of ordinary things and make them unique, is to ascertain the sensitivity, is to paying increasing attention to small details.

Photographing enables a increasingly aware of what is happening around us and helps finding beautiful where most people see nothing.

Taking photos is something I love to do.
Sharing this passion with my sister is something special.

Aproveitando o Natal, tenho tentado de várias formas fazer umas fotos com luzinhas desfocadas. Fiz mais alguns testes. Para as fotos que se seguem usei o modo manual, foco manual, tripé e lente standard 18-55mm da Canon. Sugestões são bem vindas.

Bokeh com luzes de Natal

O Natal se aproxima. A árvore já está montada, piscando bastante. Esse ano quero fazer uns enfeites para a árvore, só não sei se terei o tempo necessário.

Bom, vamos falar da foto de hoje. Essa é uma das primeiras tentativas de "fazer" bokeh usando luzinhas de Natal. Tentei várias usando o modo Aperture priority.

Christmas is coming. My tree is already ready and blinking a lot. This year my wish is to make some ornaments, I just don't know if I'll have spare time to do it.

Let's talking about the photo. This is my first try on doing bokeh using Christmas light. I've used the Aperture priority mode.

Feliz Natal means Merry Christmas in portuguese.

Usei uma bola com glitter dourado, um conjunto de luzes de led (essas não piscam), papel de presente para o fundo. Focalizei na bola e a máquina fotográfica fez o resto!

I used a glitter ornament, a led light set that doesn't blink, gift wrapper for background. I focused on the ornament and the camera did the rest!
