Back...AGAIN !!!

It's been a while since my last post, a year and a half is not too much time. I was thinking how to get my blog current, since I don't have a lot of time to write an article. Well, I just found what I'm going to do from now on. This blog will be only a gallery of all my work. This way past and new customer can visit a portfolio of all my work. This way I think I can deal with an updated blog.

I hope that you like the idea. Any comments, welcome.

Wow !!! I can't believe that time runs so quickly. The last time I post on the blog was on February 2013, almost 1 year ago. Well is never to late to update a blog, like I'm trying to do now.

On the last months, a lot of work have been done...A lot of new items were added to the shop and great things are happening around here:

Just a review:

1. I made it to the front page on Etsy for the first time...one fellow crafter did a beautiful Etsy treasury were one of my items was feature.

2. A lot of bridesmaid sets were made last year, around 126 clutches... :-)

We, at the Lighthouse Bags Studio, are very excited, this new year will be one full of work...we are working on some new models and still fulfilling orders.

What a great way to start the new year with a list of all those things you want to accomplish and a list of resolutions.

We are happy...wishing everybody a Happy New Year !!!

My new sewing companion...meet Lady Singer

For a while I have been looking for an old model sewing machine, they are stronger and very nice looking. About 2 weeks ago, I found what I tought was the perfect one for me. I order it for a very low price, and waited a the longest 10 days to received the exciting news that my machine was at the post office.

I just received my new (but not too new) sewing companion, she's from the late 50's. Take a look at her...

We had some busy days with the Tropical Storm watch this week. Thanks God nothing happen, mainly some winds and rain affect us.

My Damaged Sewing Machine

As I was working to fulfill the pending orders, one of my sewing machine broke. That's my preferred machine, I just don't hesitate because I have other machine that's just new, I just bought it on February. I just tough that I could let the machine to someone to repair it, but at the same time I tough, if the repair could cost almost the same price as a new machine. I let it by a side and start using the other. 30 minutes later I was going crazy, it was not working the same way as I'm used to. I left everything and call my dad to see if he can help. I just explain him what happened, and then he started disarming the machine.

As he was removing the nuts, we found out that a plastic part was broke.

We finally found from wherethe part was, he made an invention and repair it.

Now is working perfectly, as it as when new. I'm not depressed no more and working back again.

Our Sewing Room is working a lot to bring new items to the shop. In a few days, 3 new clutches will be added. Also we are working on some cute sunglasses cases, that I'm in love with...

Is been a while since I don't update my blog. [:-(] After almost three months of recovering from a broken leg, I'm trying to take the track back to what I regularly do. This things make us change, why?? I will be very happy to hear the reason. You change the way you think, your body changes...but, that chapter is almost closed now, and back to do what I really love...Sewing ...setting new goals for the next months...and seeing life in a different way...

Have you ever have experiences that makes you feel that you change?? Can you share them??

3D paper star wreath tutorial

I had a bunch of this pretty Christmas paper left over from last year (it's Making Memories' Mistletoe line), so I decided to use it up before I didn't love it anymore. I've been meaning to make a star wreath for ages, and after seeing a friend's 3D stars lining the wall on her staircase (super cute idea, by the way), I decided to try them out. Easy and darling! Here's how to make a 3-D paper star wreath for yourself.

3-D Paper Star Wreath Tutorial

Supplies:

*Patterned papers

*Scoring tool (scoring board, bone folder, or stylus)

*Hot glue gun

*Wreath form (I cut my own out of chipboard, but you could use a wooden one from the craft store)

*Buttons, brads, and ribbon

1. Cut stars approximately 3" to 4" wide using a template or die cutting machine. I would've used my Silhouette, but it's on the fritz, so I used my trusty Slice machine. You could also trace a template. I used 12 stars, but you may use more or less depending on the size of your wreath.

2. Score a line from the top of each point straight down to the inside point. Do this for each of the five points.

3. Fold on each line. First, fold each line with wrong-sides of the paper together.

4. Then fold the short lines between points in the opposite direction to give your star dimension.

Repeat this for all stars. Aren't they cute?

5. Optional: embellish stars centers with buttons, brads, or rhinestones. I hot glued mine on.

6. I didn't want my white wreath form to show, so I covered it with green stars, cut just 1/2" smaller. This is also optional, especially if your wreath form is narrower or you have more stars. You can always overlap your big stars.

7. Apply glue to the inside points on the back and hot glue to wreath form.

8. Create a ribbon hanger with a piece of ribbon, and if you're froofy like me, you can add a big, fluffy bow or two. Glue to the back of wreath.

Hang and enjoy!

These 3D stars are also great as ornaments. Just glue a ribbon hanger to the back! You could also glue another star to the back to make it a little sturdier and more 3-D.

I also use them as gift tags. Or gift tags that are also ornaments!

Ruffle Christmas Trees!!

Yes girls… It’s that time again! Well, for me it comes a bit sooner in the year than most but I am pretty sure that is a hereditary thing (our mom puts on Christmas music in late September). So… Let’s get to it! Here is my latest project…

How cute are those?? I can only take credit for execution on this one. My sweet friend/ partner-in-crime Erin came over for a craft day this week. She told me she would be bringing lots of “goodies”! Not only did she bring goodies… She also brought LOTS of super cute ideas! This is just one of them.

We started with a few supplies…

We started with some super cute ribbon from Hobby Lobby.

And a few styrofoam cones!

STOP! Don’t click the red X just yet!! I am hoping that this will be the post that I will finally convince all of you that you need both a basic sewing machine and a ruffler foot. This is so super easy and everything is cuter with a ruffle

I ran one end of the ribbon through the ruffler and a few minutes later I was done.

I started by glueing the ruffles from the bottom to the top. I used my hot glue gun at a low temp setting to keep it from melting the cone.

On this tree I alternated my ribbon on each row… Just because it’s cute.

We needed some feet for our trees and I quickly remembered the stash of wooden spindles I scored in Round Top that have been hiding in my garage. My hubby has asked if he can throw them out about 16,465 times so I am sure he was happy to see at least two of them leave the pile.

I used my saw to cut off the ends of a couple of them to use as bases. You can also use a candlestick like Erin did on her paper trees!

Then I gave them a coat of our very fav Rust-Oleum Painter’s Touch Heirloom White!

I also used it to paint these super cute mini finials I found at Hobby Lobby!

Finally, I glued my base to my bottom.

Yah, that’s a different tree but I will share that later

I glued my finial to the top and wrapped some twine around it just because it’s cute. I had some little silver jingle bells that I tied on to each end. That’s it!
