One thing we have been hearing from agents lately is that a tablet presentation is more of a complement to a paper or pdf report, not a replacement.

So make sure vet the quality of both presentation (paper and tablet) before making a decision.

I’m super excited to announce that the Design Board Review Committee of Huntington Beach approved our application for placing a “W&R Studios” sign on our building.

Our office is located on Main Street Huntington Beach, just 1 block from the pier. It’s visited by over 11 million people each year.

Dan and I have never had any building signage for any companies we started.

Here’s a mock up of what the sign will look like.

My inspiration for the signage came from buildings from the mid-century. I just love the way they would have free standing letters on awnings or attached to buildings.

The typeface I choose was Neutraface, from House Industries.

“Although better known for his residential buildings, Richard Neutra’s commercial projects nevertheless resonate the same holistic ecology-unity with the surrounding landscape and uncompromising functionalism. His attention to detail even extended to the selection of signage for his buildings. It is no wonder that Neutra specified lettering that was open and unobtrusive, the same characteristics which typified his progressive architecture.”

I especially love the upper case “E” in this typeface. The way the middle stroke of the E is drawn below the center of the letter is so cool. I wish the name of our company had a upper-case E. ; )

Although I did get to use the same typeface on our hand painted from door sign.

So now the work begins, we already have a sign company that is going to begin fabrication. They will be a sort of brushed aluminum, with subtle lighting at the bottom.

In future posts I’ll show some work in progress shots and the finished installation.

By now you’re probably sick of hearing about the Heartbleed bug, but we’ve gotten some inquiries into how it has affected our products – Cloud CMA, Cloud Streams, and Nudge. Luckily, the version of Linux we use on our servers to host the production versions of our products was not affected by this bug. As further evidence of this, you can check out these test sites:

http://filippo.io/Heartbleed/#cloudcma.com
http://filippo.io/Heartbleed/#cloudstreams.net

We have taken the further precaution of invalidating all of our old authentication cookies. This forces all of our users to login again, but that is a small price to pay for this extra level of safety.

If you want to take another precaution individually, you can change your current password and ensure that it is a complex, hard to guess password using a combination of lowercase and uppercase letters plus numerals. You can do this under the ‘Settings’ link in Cloud CMA and Nudge, and under ‘Account’ and ‘Settings’ in Cloud Streams.

If you have any questions or concerns about this topic, just email support@wrstudios.com and we’ll help you out.

Last week’s blog went over the “how-to” part of creating sharable content. This week’s topic is the “why”. What’s the point? Why is sharable content valuable? What are the benefits of having your content shared? Read on to see the answers! (In hindsight, the “why” probably should have come before the “how-to” – what do you think?)

As promised last week, we are going to share with you a Cloud CMA Facebook post that has earned the title of, “Our Most Shared Piece of Content to Date”. You can view the infamous post below:

This was created under the founding principle discussed last week – that people share content that helps develop their online identity. We know you’re an awesome agent and we wanted to make something for you to share on your Facebook page as a “badge of honor” or statement of sorts. Lucky for us, this plan worked and we saw outstanding results.

With the above YOLO post in mind, here are 3 benefits that you will reap by creating sharable content:

1. An Extended Social Reach – On average, Cloud CMA’s Facebook posts consistently reach a particular number of people. However, this YOLO post obtained a reach 60 times that of our average posts! This is a tremendous increase, and here’s why – people shared it. It said something about them and supported their online identity.

2. Increased Engagement – This definitely isn’t our “most commented on” post, but it is the most liked and shared. As of today, the stats likes, comments, and shares can be seen on those figure below:

Measuring engagement is not an exact science but likes, comments, and shares all play a critical role. Needless to say, this was a more engaging post than average. Why do we care about engagement? Because your entire purpose for being in the social media space should be to have conversations with your consumers and become a digital resource for them. Engaged customers consume your brand and extend it when they share your content.

3. Increased Longevity – We posted the YOLO image on Cloud CMA’s Facebook page on May 10, 2013. Now keep in mind that the average life span of a Facebook post is around 24 hours. The most recent share of this post to date occurred on August 7th, 2013 – nearly 3 months after it went live! When your content gets shared over an extended period of time, it stays relevant, grows your reach, and opens up more opportunities for engagement.

Expecting to create content that gets results like these every time is unrealistic. It takes time and consistent practice. Some ideas work while others don’t – and that’s okay. The moral of the story here is – don’t approach content creation just for the sake of getting it done. Instead, approach it intentionally, consistently, and with this principle in mind: People share content that helps fulfill their online identity. At the end of the day, it’s all about your customers, so keep the focus on them.

As a busy agent, the act of creating content can feel like a daunting task – let alone creating sharable content. It’s easy to get overwhelmed, but don’t. This post will break it down for you from the basics.

What is content? Google defines it as, “The things that are held or included in something.” Thinking about the “included in something” part is the best way to understand content. What’s included in a tweet? 140 characters – of content. What’s included in a Facebook post? It could be an image, a status update, or a video – all of which are content. What’s included in your blog? Posts, of which include content.

With the Internet and social media today, content is everywhere. It’s being created, shared, re-shared, and consumed by an enormous audience. This is powerful in that you can reach new audiences exponentially – so long as your content is getting shared. So, how can you reap the benefits of this amplified reach and get your content in front of clients and prospects? Create original and shareable content.

If you’ve ever heard Jim Marks, president of Virtual Results, speak at a convention or conference, then you know describing him as “extremely enthusiastic” is a huge understatement. He’s full of energy and super passionate about Internet marketing and social media strategies. The last time I heard him speak, he specifically discussed the type of content that people are sharing on social. Marks explains that,

“People share content that helps fulfill their online identity.”

Read that statement a couple times slowly. I’ll wait. This is your foundation for creating sharable content.

If you’ve ever re-tweeted a tweet, re-pinned a pin, or clicked “Share” on a Facebook post, then you’ve actively shared content. There was something about that tweet, pin, or post that motivated you to spread the word and distribute that material to your followers and/or friends. Chances are, you liked what it said about you upon sharing. It helped shape your online identity.

Now think about the person who created the piece of content you shared. The act of you (and likely others) sharing that material, extended it’s social reach tremendously. The number of people consuming this media went beyond the individual’s networks and worked it’s way into networks of networks of networks. This is powerful and is the exact reason why you want your content to be shared.

So, before you sit down to write your next blog, type your next tweet, or post your next status update – remember this phrase, “People share content that helps fulfill their online identity.” Think about what you’re about to post from the perspective of the viewer. How will they experience it? Will it make them feel something? Will they want to share it? How does this help fulfill their online identity?

By shifting your perspective to that of your followers, ‘likers’, and friends, you better position yourself for successfully creating content that is valuable, content that will be shared, and content that will be consumed by your future clients and prospects.

Still with me? Interested in learning more about sharable content? Stay tuned for next week’s post on “Our Most Shared Piece of Content to Date” – highlighting a particularly engaging Facebook post, the process behind it’s creation, and some interesting tidbits on what happens to highly shared pieces of content.
