I’ve seen a lot of talk about sex and spirituality and I have this strong sense that there is something very off about a lot of what people are saying.

The gist seems to be that on the one hand, there is sex. On the other hand, there is spirituality. They are incompatible; in some way polar opposites. You can make sex spiritual, “purify” it so to speak, but unless you do so by default it isn’t. (Photo credit)

For me that idea contains two errors. At least. Let’s start with the first two which have occurred to me.

First is that spirituality is not about what is good or bad, what is dirty or pure. Spirituality is about growth and truth and raising your vibration. It’s about finding out what is the deepest truth of your soul and expressing it. If chastity is the deepest truth of your soul, express it, but not because sex is dirty or bad.

Next point. Sex and spirituality are not opposites. Just as spirituality does not equate to “good” or “pure”, sex does not equate to “bad” or “dirty”. Spirituality is an apple, sexuality is an orange. There is no cosmic gradient, no scale of purity or holiness in which we find spirituality on one end and sexuality on the other.

For me, when you disdain sex this way, or praise Tantric sex while inferring that other sorts of sex are worthy of disdain, you are just putting a “spiritual” veil on top of your guilt and shame about sex. That is what I’d call the opposite of spiritual. If spirituality is growth, then its opposite would be covering up issues in order to avoid having to grow.

The True Nature of Sex

So what is sex? Sex is just sex. It’s a biological function. As a function it’s not just limited to reproduction, but also within this species it helps us to release tensions and to bond. (In other primates it serves the same function as well, so this is not just limited to creatures who have an ego).

Sex is natural, and we need it to be healthy in a similar way we need sleep to be healthy. Some rare people live without sleep, and deprivation of either sex or sleep won’t kill you directly, but will reduce your ability to function and enjoy life.

Like sleep and food, sex is a bodily need that is very pleasurable to keep fulfilled. And that’s all it really is.

Sex and Love

What about love? Must sex be done with love? What happens if it’s not done with love?

In my opinion, sex is a great way to bond with someone, and a great opportunity to express love. It’s not the same as love, however. And God won’t punish you for having sex without love.

What I will say is that lack of love is a sickness, and this sickness becomes quite obvious in the realm of sex. I find sex without heart to heart connection very cold and desolate. But actually, I find it desolate to do ANYTHING with someone who cannot connect with me in an authentic and spiritual way.

Sex without love is destructive. However, eating without love is destructive. And so is anything you do without love. There is nothing special about sex, nothing that separates it fundamentally from any other thing we do.

Tantric Sex

There are such things as meditations through sex which are quite effective, and there are ways of playing with sexual energy to get it to help you do stuff. Some of these things come under the label of Tantra, some have different names.

In this article I don’t want to say that these practises have no value. I simply want to tear down the all too common misconception of sex as something to be changed. For me these practises are things to play with, but don’t change the fact that sex is important, natural, and a part of us. We can’t do Tantra all the time and neglect to have normal sex. I mean, we could, but the only real reason I imagine people would ONLY have sex in a meditative way and eschew all other sex is because they secretly thought sex was dirty.

And if a Tantric master is reading this (where have you been all my life?) I want to apologise for any glaring errors. Maybe I’m wrong. Maybe you can have Tantric sex all the time. But to focus on that point would be to miss the message I’m aiming to get across with this post. Sex is healthy and is not inherently low vibration. It’s a part of us and can’t be manipulated or changed without that damage reverbating on us. That’s all I’m saying.

High and Low Vibration Sex

I know sex can mix itself with low energies. I know it can. And I think it’s an excellent thing to work out how sexuality in your life has low vibrations attached to it, and cleanse those vibrations.

But that’s nothing to do with sex itself. Sex fundamentally has nothing to do with low vibrations. It’s neither high or low vibration, and neither causes you to raise or lower your vibration. As with food, the love and consciousness you put into sex will determine how healthful or unhealthful it is for you. And that’s all.

Sex and Spirituality

And if you are still trying to change sex, start doing some spiritual self work and learn to just leave it be. It’s a beautiful, wonderful part of ourselves that just wants to be expressed, and isn’t happy about how people have kept demonising it. Life is a game, eating’s a game, sex is a game. Don’t make it anything more than that. Just take it for what it is and enjoy.

Here’s a quick update on my biphasic sleep experiment. Readers who are wondering where I’ve been rest assured that I’m going to get writing again very soon, probably today or tomorrow. I’ve been both busy and pensive about where to take this site. The results of this thinking will make themselves manifest soon

The biphasic sleep experiment has so far been a successful learning experience. That is, I failed :p I kept it up for about a week, some days doing it right and experiencing some great benefits, and other days not getting it quite so right. However, having a different rhythm, I kept waking up my girlfriend when I got into bed.

She’s a very light sleeper and for some reason usually can’t back to sleep after being woken up at night. It’s insane.

The Princess And The Pea

One night I managed to get into bed without her waking up – I was ultra, mega, uber slick and silent, like a cat burglar sneaking into her warm and cuddly embrace. I got under the blankets and was still. Then, I looked at her to see if I’d woken her up or not. I studied her face intently; I couldn’t see very well in the dark.

And she woke up.

Apparently I’d woken her up with the intensity of my gaze.

After trying all the solutions I decided that there was just nothing doing. Unless I sleep somewhere else, I basically have to go to bed at the same time as my girlfriend and get out of bed at the same time or later. And it happens to be that I both don’t really have anywhere else to sleep, and don’t want to sleep anywhere else. Romance is a priority in my life right now.

Biphasic Sleep Benefits

For another moment in my life in which I’m free to experiment with this, I am certain that I’ll want to return to biphasic sleep. It really isn’t that hard, for one thing. How hard can it be to take a long nap in the middle of the day?

The benefits seem to be quite clear. I found myself being a lot more productive when I maintained the sleeping pattern. I would be able to do almost twice the amount of things I would normally do. Not in a stressed out way – just because I was in this flow of being very clear headed and focused.

On the other hand, when I wake up in the morning on a normal sleeping pattern I need quite a long time to get into this flow. I also seem to need more time to rest up and disconnect.

Added to the gains in time I get from having to sleep less in a twenty four hour period, biphasic sleep is a killer productivity solution for seekers of lazy success. (I have just linked to one of my favourite books of all time). Without stopping doing what you want, you naturally achieve more.

Besides that I noticed some improvements in my dream recall and also rather more intense dreams. I enjoyed that benefit though it wasn’t as much as I’d hoped. If my intuition improved I didn’t really notice it. And that’s everything I noticed during this time.

Hey, it was a short experiment, and I didn’t really get it to work continuously. I would so like to see how well biphasic sleep works, done well, over the course of a whole month. But, I guess, that’s for later.

I want to dedicate this post to my new experiment in biphasic sleep, which I will describe in a moment. But first, let me go over this year in personal development briefly.

Personal Development

Before I start, a side note.

I haven’t blogged much of my major personal development advances recently, partly because I really see this more as a lightworker’s blog than a personal development blog.

My soul message is a lot to do with living according to our true essence, and that’s more what I want to teach here. Personal development is an expression of our true essence, which is why I do it.

I’m not broken and don’t need to be fixed But I’m a river in motion, and what I know is to flow towards the sea. That’s personal development as an expression of our true essence.

So, let me go over this year so far in personal development, for your inspiration.

80/10/10 Raw Vegan

About three months ago, I went 80/10/10 (very low fat) raw vegan without making a particularly big deal about it online, and as of this writing I’m feeling very successful with this tricky diet and experiencing some incredible results.

I spent about a month eating “perfectly” in this diet – e.g. breaking none of the rules I had set myself – but I eventually succumbed to binge eating and shameful feelings about eating cooked food. So I started to take a different approach. I decided to let myself eat whatever I wanted to eat. No rules. The idea was to let myself learn to DESIRE not to eat “bad” foods rather than just controlling myself all the time. In general I always use this philosophy on myself as much as I can, but I still have some conditioning to break through.

As I was saying, I let myself loose. I could eat whatever I wanted, but I would make a point to undertake doing so with as much consciousness as I could muster. I would meditate on the experience and really feel what I was feeling. If eating something made me feel bad, I wouldn’t run from this any more.

First I did end up eating a lot of bad stuff, but I have been steadily improving, till the point where I’m at now where I eat cooked food maybe once every three days. I’m VERY happy with the results of this diet and I keep on moving closer to adhering fully to it – not because I “should” but because I have found a place in myself where it just feels right to avoid pain and maximise pleasure in this way. I’m not restricting myself of anything, I’m just eating consciously. The great thing is now I listen to my body and eat as it tells me to; I don’t force myself to eat the quantity and sort of food I thought I “should” eat.

I’ve simplified the process I went through here a little. There was a lot of inner work to do to get where I am now. For instance, I sorted through some unconscious patterns in which I rejected responsibility. I would eat a bad food because I “wanted” it, but in my mind I wouldn’t accept responsibility for the fact that I’d feel bad afterwards. If I did happened, I’d just feel powerless. This was all a child-rebelling-against-parent pattern which is long outdated and was well worth ridding myself of.

Anyway, I brought these and other unconscious patterns to conscious awareness, and, in so doing, allowed myself to realise my capacity to choose new ways of doing things. I think this was a major part of my current success in this diet.

Going No Poo

Another thing I wanted to write about but didn’t quite feel was blog-worthy was going “No Poo”, which means giving up shampoo. I now no longer use any hair products or soap; I just clean myself with plain water. The diet helps, though for anyone who is interested, it seems to be that anyone can give up shampoo and have their hair begin to regulate itself fully in about a month or so. I tried it once when I still ate meat but gave up after about 25 days; I couldn’t take how greasy my hair was getting. A little after going 80/10/10 raw, I tried this again and honestly didn’t have to wait more than about a day for my hair to get back to normal. It hardly stopped being normal.

Sleeping On Hard Surfaces

A bit before all this, I gave sleeping on hard surfaces a go. A friend of mine does this and says it’s excellent for her back. Like going No Poo, there is an adaptation period where things are harder than before but then the change becomes natural and easy. I couldn’t get it to work though. I had such problems sleeping that I eventually suffered sleep deprivation and had to leave it off to some later date when I feel ready for another try.

So that’s my personal development this year in a nutshell.

Biphasic Sleep

Now for what I want to do now.

Biphasic sleep. It’s about sleeping in two periods every 24 hours. The first period is a nap that lasts one dream cycle; I’ll set my alarm to give me 90 minutes. The second period is for four and a half hours or however long you feel like staying asleep.

The benefits are said to be really good. The main benefit is that you sleep less per 24 hours; typically 6 hours. For most people that would be a gain of 2 hours. As I rarely sleep as little as 8 hours a day, I think I would gain even more time in my day, as I’ve heard it said that people who sleep a lot tend to end up sleeping 6 hours like other people when they take up this rhythm.

There are other benefits too. I’ve heard that biphasic sleep gives you more energy, more intuition, better quality of sleep, better dream recall, and more lucid dreams. All of these benefits seem pretty sweet to me.

Unlike with the Uberman polyphasic sleep rhythm which Steve Pavlina tried once, I won’t be making my daily schedule too unmanageable. Hey, I live in Spain, where the “siesta” at midday is practically an institution. Compared to other forms of polyphasic sleep, biphasic seems very easy and convenient and with a lot of returns for the effort that goes into it. And if I don’t call it something so outlandish as “biphasic” – if I just say I have a “siesta” at midday – I may even briefly appear to be a normal person, to someone who has failed to look too carefully. That is convenient

The Biphasic Sleep Experiment

I’ve decided to start the experiment with a rhythm of going to bed at 4:30 AM and waking up at 9 AM. Then later I will have a nap at 4:30 PM for 90 minutes.

For today I’m going to set my alarm to wake up at 9 AM so I’ll be sleepy enough to nap at 4:30. Later, though, I will only use an alarm for the nap.

I’m super psyched about this change — wish me luck!

A couple of friends asked me about resources and information on indigo children. I’m gonna take the opportunity to write an article that was waiting to be written for a while.

Indigo Children

Firstly, a brief summary of what this whole deal is about.

Indigo children, often just “indigos” to refer to both children and adults, are a breed of people with very unusual traits. Though it takes us a while to “wake up” to who and what we really are, when we are realised and walking the path we are a sort of Earth angel. We are gifted with extra power, extra intuition, energy, healing ability, talents, creativity, intelligence and passion. We also have the strong desire to use this stuff for good.

However an indigo might not always get recognised for what they are and may not recognise themselves. Stuck in a quagmire of negative energy that is amplified by their high sensitivity, they may think they are just a normal person, or at least not a particularly special one, if bewildered at the insane things that go on in the world.

Indigos have a very different makeup to most people and once the diagnosis is made, you need to find some sort of “user manual” for your indigo-ness. Allow me to provide you with one

Resources For Indigo Children/Adult Identification

My favourite article on how to tell if you are indigo is my own, which is linked in this sentence

Tying with me in awesomeness is this article by one of my favourite indigos, Kristen Finlayson.

I also like this forum post written by another indigo, which mentions some interesting stuff about being magnets for animals and children which I resonate with.

Finally, there are the traits which were quoted in Lee Carroll and Jan Tober’s book, “The Indigo Children”. These traits are quoted all over the internet, so I’m going to link just one article which lists them which seemed to be pretty good. Scroll down to the bit with the bullet points.

Beware misinformation: indigos can be of any age and are not every person born after X year. Read this article of mine for more.

Soul Age

All indigos are “Old Souls” but not all Old Souls are indigos. Check this article for information on soul age.

Where To Meet Indigos Online

After trawling the whole internet, my favourite forum for indigos is Indigo Society. I post there quite a lot; it’s a mixed bag because it’s not too well modded, but if you have thick skin and stay open to possibilities it’s a great site to meet people in and share stuff from the indigo perspective. I met some great people there.

I also like the Yahoo group for indigo adults. I don’t like the website it’s affiliated with, Metagifted.org, because it distributes misinformation about indigos. However, the forum turned out alright.

Finally, there are lots of groups on Facebook for indigos which you can find by searching for indigo children. Also try searching for indigo + location e.g. “Indigo UK”.
Sites & Other Resources For Indigos

I saw this site a while back and it very strongly resonated with me. If anyone wants some coaching for indigos then check this place out. The blog is also awesome.

I very much like this thread on Indigo Society: “Indigo Starter Kit: What To Do After You Find Out“. I’d like to write a post on the same theme here eventually.

Mirri and Elleke Rocks have a great website geared towards indigos. They are brilliant, beautiful indigos themselves.

Jan’s website is great to learn about metaphysics. She’s indigo herself and has a lot of interesting viewpoints to share from her patently indigo perspective.

I don’t like Lightworker.com that much – at least it didn’t prove a match to my ADD-like tendencies – but its Spectrum Magazine has some wonderful articles written by and for indigos.

In Spectrum Magazine I found a series of five articles on grounding as applies to indigos, crystals, and so on. We are the individuals most likely to suffer from ungroundedness due to our high sensitivity so I think these articles are very much in demand and worthwhile for me to point out to my readers.

The Da Vinci Method is a great book (even if the heavy marketing can put some off) geared towards the empowerment of indigos.

Indigo Psychics

Indigos make great psychics as we are all blessed with the intuitive gift to some degree. Indigo psychics gave me a huge boost in my growth and were capable of understanding me and giving me the sort of validation my soul craved. I list a few indigo psychics who have helped me and who are all my very good friends.

Caren is an indigo and is a great psychic if you need some guidance. She’ll understand you.

Rosine Caplot used to say about her readings that she “helps people who feel like aliens understand themselves” or something like that. She now has a different mission statement but I feel like a psychic reading with Rosine is a good deal for an indigo or someone who doesn’t understand themselves well. She doesn’t like the indigo label but I think she is

Rei Williams is a crystal child, previously an indigo child, and is a great psychic and coach. She can help advanced souls empower themselves, heal, and grow spiritually. Her blog also has some lovely messages of light which are free.

Chris Landry has helped me a lot and is a very accurate psychic and an enthusiastic coach and healer too.

Indigo Children Books

THE book about indigo children is the book by Caroll and Tober, “The Indigo Children“. I haven’t read it but I know enough people who have to know that it’s a good book. It was a leading spark to create the flame of the indigo movement as it stands today.

The first book ever written about indigos, which introduced the term, was “Understanding Your Life through Colour” by Nancy Ann Tappe. I haven’t read it either but I am suspicious of it; the observations it has made about indigos don’t match up to how I and most others understand the term. It most definitely doesn’t match up to the information in Caroll and Tober’s book. Still I want to get this one some day as I would like to read it first hand.

The Law of One has some stuff about indigos too, which it refers to as “Wanderers”. I skimmed some of it and the Wanderers bits are interesting.

The Care And Feeding of Indigo Children is by most accounts an interesting book. (That’s right, I haven’t read it…). I like Doreen Virtue though I do feel she occasionally misrepresents us.

Finally “The Children of Now” brought a lot of value to a friend of mine and I feel I can recommend it.

More Questions About Indigo Children?

If you have any more questions about indigos just ask me and I may well write a post about it. You can also ask a question on either of the forums I’ve posted and are likely to get a lot of good answers. If you need more book recommendations go for Indigo Society.

I hope this has helped some – keep in touch

Love

A friend just asked me how I came to terms with having parents who were more immature on a soul level than me.

The answer is: slowly…

I had my big awakening about two years ago, when I realised that my parents’ energy was holding me down in negative states and basically fled my parents’ house. I was depressed and sick, I might have died if I’d stayed there.

In that time while dealing from my vast pain, I basically demonised my parents. I feared them and sometimes hated them, most of all my father. I blamed them for my state.

Nowadays I don’t hate them. I still have my frustrations with them and there are still things to heal, but I don’t hate them. Though they don’t understand love like I do, I know there is a connection there which is true, underneath all the bullshit, and I care for them in my own way.

Basically as I healed myself bit by bit, I healed my relationship with my parents. Healing for me was a very dynamic process, involving a sort of dance with those people around me where I worked through my negative patterns and got over them. My parents were obviously part of that dance. My father struggled to control me as his own arrogance dictated. I struggled to be free and to stay out of his contact and reach. I resented them and spoke badly of them at any opportunity.

When I was away from my parents, I remember coming across figures that reminded me of them so I could work out my unconscious stuff in just the same way. What I ran from came back to me.

I think the mechanism of my healing was that I worked on raising my vibration – which can be done through meditation or simple intent – and as I pushed upwards, I had to face the negative “stuff” on the lower planes that was holding me down. In this way, I think you can be angry and so on without causing an energetic debt. I was just releasing the old patterns.

The last time I did this was a massive shouting match I did with my parents a couple of weeks ago. A couple of weeks might not seem much but at the rate I grow it already feels like months ago It was the trigger for a LOT of growth and I feel that it released enough of this karma or entanglement for me to be able to leave home now.

I think by releasing anger I released their control over me. In this last year I’ve seen that a lot. When I’ve fallen into an unhealthy power relationship because of my 3rd chakra issues, it’s culminated in getting REALLY angry, letting all of that express itself, and redefining my limits, stronger than before.

So this time I let it all out. More than I’ve told them in my life. I told my father that his patronising tone makes me sick, that hitting children is obscene, that I refused to allow my self esteem to be lowered by them, etc, etc.

After this I did plenty of introspection as always, and I came to the conclusion that I still hadn’t forgiven my father for beating me as a child. I asked myself what the emotion of unforgiveness was trying to achieve, and I realised that I felt that my father would feel that it’s OK to hit children if I ever forgave him. So I asked myself to find a new way to look at this, where I could feel that I both forgive him and make it abundantly clear that my boundaries are defined and immutable, and that if I ever had to, I would defend another who has to go through my past situation.

Shortly after, I found an article on Soul Ages where it showed my father as none other than a baby soul. This definitely cleared things up a bit

Though I’ve had that feeling from him before, the outside confirmation was very valuable in coming to terms with my immature parents. The idea which everyone had always self-assuredly told me was an illusion – that I was smarter and wiser than the adults around me – was shown to be clearly true. So I felt less fear and uncertainty in accepting that point of view.

As a baby soul, my father sees things primarily in terms of security. He requires external direction and makes out authority figures to be gods. In his soul, all he’s trying to do is please his unpleasable mother. He has a vast amount of negative energy, fear, shame and aggression, but in his soul he’s just lost and looking for safety. He’s like a baby with a gun.

So that’s how I see it now. As I rise up, I realise more and more that their negative stuff doesn’t need to affect me. It did when I was a kid, because I was vulnerable, but I try to see that in a Zen way: it is as it is. Nowadays it’s my responsibility to work on negative energies in me as my own and not try to change anyone. Once I’ve cleared my own negative energies, what my parents or what anyone else has is just there; I can observe it in a detached and even amused way.

It’s not over, but I so love to observe my progress since last year. Instead of possessed hatred this last week I might give a gentler, almost humourous anger response to keep him on the right side of my personal boundaries. Maybe he’ll get another shouting match out of me yet, but I feel more okay about it all, anyway.

The basic rule is: you can’t run. If a negative bit of “stuff” comes along, you got to face it. Will it to be used as a means to your further sublimation…….. a neglected part of yourself coming up to say hi – looking for you to integrate it as a part of you now. You just ride the wave, Zen-like “doing nothing” while doing whatever you are doing, and soon enough it’s over, and you’re at the next level of evolution.

Understanding helps me come to terms with having been brought up by immature parents. I see them for what they are, and see through their bullshit – but see right through it to the human interior. They speak different languages: for my father “I love you” is a social ritual and means “I’m scared, help me feel safe”. But on a soul level, there is a real strong bond between us. I don’t think you can go through so many years and so much sacrifice together and not have a bond. So this is my teacher of unconditional love; if I can see the love here, underneath the most dense boundaries, underneath even hate — I can love anyone. And guess what? I can.

–

PS for the curious, according to the Michael Teachings my mother is probably a “mature soul”. She’d be way more awesome if she hadn’t ended up in such an insane household. Guess my soul age

After hearing the second psychic telling me that my energy body was “very clear” and stopping to read myself in the mirror I decided something must be up. I’ve been admitting to having a dark side and having a long way to go for a while on the Steve Pavlina forums, and it’s almost like some people have made me up as this conflicted light/dark guy in their minds. It’s not the first time. When I hung out at spiritual type places in Barcelona, I got this reputation as this “spiritual guy, but X, Y, and Z”. But really, all I am is a lightworker who knows power.

Lightworkers and Power

A lightworker who knows power doesn’t look like this bullshit fake lightworker which many people have gotten used to. Actually, we look rather different from what society considers the norm. We don’t conform. And that makes us have a very different form. (We’re the ones who are sworn to take the world by storm and let the cold feel warm, raise up the forlorn; that’s why we’re born and that’s why we’re gonna swarm, we’re gonna show the world our form and bring light into the storm. Torn; the clothes we have worn, the world that has shorn from us but we’re gonna love it in return, make good our call’n and do what we have sworn).

Lol.

A lightworker who knows power sees through the lies and bullshit of society. So to start with, they don’t follow any rule whatsoever. Why would they? That’s society stuff. You can’t bring in light unless you’re separate from the darkness.

It doesn’t mean they sow discord. That’s a very different thing to not following rules. It means they follow their inner guide and not those of external agents. And rightly so; cause the only external agent that would have you follow them rather than your inner guide is not working within the light.

A lightworker who knows power doesn’t care to appear “light” unless they have a specific need to. And sometimes they appear less light than other lightworkers. Why? Because they don’t hide themselves or their emotions; they don’t pretend to be “perfect”; in fact lightworkers who know power reject external definitions of perfection anyway.

Listen up guys; there is no “should” or “should not” in the lightworkers’ realm. There is nothing you need to do to be perfect. There is nowhere you need to go. Shut up; you say you know this but you don’t. (I’m addressing myself to a certain audience here; actually a lot of you do know this).

You are LOVED. There is NOTHING you need to do to be loved, nothing! Do you think God thinks you are dirty or wrong for anything at all? Could God in his infinite perfection have created anything that was not loveable, not forgiveable?

Lightworkers, you don’t have to hide your perfection to be loveable*. And you most definitely don’t have to do that to be lightworkers. If you attract criticism for being anything that doesn’t fit into someone’s image of a lightworker….. FUCK ‘EM. And love them. But, really, you know, fuck ‘em.

*I’m not sure if that was a typo, but I’m leaving it as is.

Lightworker, if you have a dark side… good, it shows you are human. Let yourself have it. Transmute it if you like, but not because you are “supposed” to. Not because your negativity is “bad”. YOU ARE INFINITE LOVE. You cannot be “bad”!

Lightworkers and Negativity

I was inspired to write about lightworkers and power to make this point: do not fear negativity. Don’t give your power away to that bullshit, lightworker.

Don’t be shamed for being negative. Don’t think you are bad for being negative. And don’t hide it and think you’re immaculate. Don’t think being immaculate makes you more loveable than the dirtiest, foulest hobo on the streets of New York. Cause God made you out of the same stuff as him, and you are both love whether either of you realise it or not.

A healthy way to take on negativity is to cleanse it when you can see that it is causing you damage. No more, no less. As you become more aware of yourself and your actions, you will naturally want to grow to become more capable of expressing your love and power in the world.

It’s not cause it makes you better. It’s cause it’s what you are. Love is what you are, and everything else is bullshit. So you become aware of it, and you clean it out. In your own time. Knowing that your loveability has nothing to do with it.

*It is higher vibration to have negativity and be honest about it than to have negativity and hide it*. And you can only truly deal with negativity when you deal with it from a place of truth and you-ness, not a place of a rejection of you.

Lightworker, keep your power. Be as you are, and change not to satisfy the demands of others. The only guy you have to satisfy is you.

I love you,

Andrew

I wanted to make an english translation of possibly my favourite song in the world, “Como Las Flores” by Shimshai, sometimes mistakenly called “Como Las Flores Creciendo”.

There’s a lot of spiritual meaning to “Como Las Flores”, which is hosted on Ayahuasca-Wasi, a site for songs for use in the Ayahuasca ritual. I could have just tweeted the song (and have), but I think you need to know the lyrics to fully appreciate it.

Listen to the song on Ayahuasca-Wasi: Como Las Flores by Shimshai

And now the words:

Como Las Flores por Shimshai – Spanish

Me llevó aquí el viento esta mañana

Y en la manera en que yo aprendo, yo enseño

Like the Flowers by Shimshai – English

The wind took me here this morning

I didn’t know why, and I didn’t care to know

And in the way I learn, I teach

and by my own eyes, I can already see

*

Such is the truth, there’s nothing to do

but keep on living, from the essence of you.

And when you get to the end, the end of what, I don’t know

There you will find yourself at the beginning again.

*

Such is the life that comes and it goes, like the flowers growing

it takes us where we need to be, like the river flowing

with every gift I become full of gratitude

and I pray that I stay this way.

*

When you look into the centre of your soul, tell me what you can see

letting go of what you were yesterday, let it be.

With the current of the river, we are all a drop of the sea

we are all a drop of the great Existence, flowing towards the sea.

*

And the mystery of creation

springs from the depth of your heart

and that’s where you find the cure

and that’s how we complete our mission. (bis)

*

Of being human, being alive

whatever it is, and we learn what it means to exist

Being human, being alive

whatever it is at least we’re here

watching the life that comes and goes…

I wanted to write an article to put forward my point of view in defense of veganism, a dietary and lifestyle change I consider a direct result of my spiritual perspective.

Before I start, please note that I don’t want to say that veganism is unquestionably superior to anything ever or that you’re a complete idiot if you don’t subscribe to veganism. I do want to make a fairly balanced, reasonable argument for why I consider veganism to be a worthy lifestyle.

Actually, I don’t really want to “debate” here. I’m talking for people who will listen but as soon as we get into a pissing match I’d rather opt out. No one wins debates. So this is nothing more than how I see things, take it or leave it, and don’t forget to love

About Veganism

Veganism, for the curious, is a lifestyle which aims to minimise animal suffering. As well as avoiding eating meat, poultry, fish, eggs, milk, and milk products, subscribers to the viewpoint of veganism generally also avoid honey and certain food additives made from insects; and outside the realm of diet we stop using leather, wool, eiderdown, fur, gelatin-based glues, and so on.

Veganism and Facing Up to the Truth

Why am I such a proponent of veganism? In a sentence, I guess you could say it’s because I’m not interested in paying people to do things for me that I wouldn’t be happy to do myself.

For me veganism was a lot about facing up to the truth. I think a lot of people prefer to turn their heads in regards to what goes on in the meat industry. And – quite apart from the insane cruelty that goes on in modern factory farms slaughter aside, who among us would actually have the heart to put a knife to an animal’s throat?

In fact, I know of plenty of people who prefer not to think about the fact that what they are eating is a dead animal. They find to put it like that distasteful (even though it’s the truth). These people only eat cuts of meat which don’t look like anyone they know and couldn’t fathom eating a pig’s head with its dead, staring eyes gazing into empty space.

In our society we call dead pigs “pork”, dead deer “venison” and dead cows “beef”. To me it seems like we are using a different name to make us think that what we are eating is something different to where it comes from. In the supermarkets, chickens have their heads cut off and feathers removed and look quite unrecognisable from as they did in life.

Once You’ve Faced the Truth, Veganism is About Sensitivity

There are actually a few people who become conscious of this inconsistency in our thinking and straighten it out by going out and killing animals themselves. That way, they know that they are eating meat out of choice and not by default. I remember seeing the facebook profile of the writer of a blog about the paleo diet, whose photo displayed him proudly holding a severed pig’s head at his side and showing off his six pack.

I guess to these people I can’t say anything. It’s your choice. However, I actively choose to develop sensitivity and compassion towards all things. This sensitivity extends to plants, insects, animals, and humans and even inanimate objects.

Sensitivity is literally to do with having your attention focused in your senses rather than your thought-stream. When we get too stuck in our thought-stream, we become what we *think* we are rather than what we really are, and we *think* what we experience rather than directly experiencing it. This brings us a lot of suffering, though it’s often a subtle thing to realise.

Veganism and Judgement

I didn’t aim to become sensitive because anyone told me I “should” or because I want to be a good lightworker. (Actually, I identify tongue-in-cheek as a “Pirate Lightworker” to make a statement that I serve the highest good but don’t want the burden of anyone’s approval for doing so). I started to nurture my sensitivity because, inspired by books like The Power of Now, my heart told me that this was a true path, a path to real joy and happiness and truth.

I think this path is a true path for anyone who is ready for it, but that doesn’t mean that choosing not to develop sensitivity towards all things is “wrong”. “Wrong” doesn’t have any meaning for me (unless I’m angry, in which case I’ll tell you you’re wrong all I like, but that’s not my official stance on things). Basically, everything is as it is. Judgement doesn’t exist anywhere in the known Universe – except in our heads.

A lot of vegans are pretty militant about veganism. They consider killing people “wrong” and therefore killing animals must be “wrong”. The logic is sound in that animals are not fundamentally different from people, except that killing *people* doesn’t need to be “wrong”.

What does “wrong” mean? Basically it’s an emotional reaction. It’s a rejection – violent to a greater or lesser extent – of something – or someone. This is optional.

Reason is to do with sensitivity – being in tune with real life, with the senses, and with your own being – and doesn’t require judgement to work.

Violence in Veganism

Many people see vegans as extremists and that’s because some proponents of veganism give the lifestyle a bad name. There are people who cause hurt to save animals and there are ad campaigns for veganism which are really distasteful. Though some good can come of these practises, I think they’re short sighted. This is because violence creates violence and people will see vegans as enemies rather than real people, friends, who they can listen to. And if they won’t listen to you how the heck can you convince them of anything???

Don’t be discouraged by the few people who give veganism a bad name. They are the people who make themselves most known, but they are not the majority and even if they were, veganism is nothing to do with that. Veganism is about compassion, sense of superiority optional.

Compassion for Plants

I’ve heard this argument before: that all animals feed off other living beings, and that causing hurt is inevitable if we are to be on Earth.

I say that causing an EFFECT on those beings you come in contact with is inevitable if we are to be on Earth. Whether this effect is to be mostly positive, or mostly negative, is down to us and has a lot to do with whether we default to the standard way of living here (which everyone agrees is destroying the Earth) or we decide to consciously work out a new way of living for ourselves.

I think there are ways of minimising the impacts of our diets. One is to stop eating animals.

Animals have to eat something, so really if you eat an animal you are both eating the plants it ate and the animal itself.

What plants feel about being eaten is an article in itself, but I do feel quite in tune with plants and my intuition sees eating them as less impactful for a couple of other reasons.

One is that most plants live shorter lives generally and have correspondingly less lifeforce. When a short-lived plant’s lifeforce is released before its time, it’s less of a tragedy – and less pain is experienced – than when a vigorous animal with the potential for a lot of life and expression dies.

The other has to do with Life Purpose. A plant’s Life Purpose is about expressing its radiance, clearing negative energies from the environment, and continuing the circle of life as we are all mandated to do. We can often get our sustainence from a plant after it has completed most of its mission. We can also get sustainence from a plant without killing it – the purest method of which is to eat its fruit, which is the most nourishing food for human beings and in the best of circumstances means no pain for the plant at all.

When we cage up animals in factories like we do, we actually make sure that they don’t express any of their life purposes. Plants can radiate positive energy and cleanse negative energies from the fields in which they are grown (even if modern farming practises are very damaging for them). Animals can’t run around, can’t relate to each other, get no stimulation, can’t explore new places, can’t have sex, and are often deprived of bringing up their children. Cows which are raised for milk have their beloved children taken away from them at birth every 3 years. They are not so stupid as to not notice that.

Side Note: Veganism vs. Ovo-Lacto Vegetarianism

In this article I talk about meat eating as opposed to veganism, to keep my writing simple. Ovo-lacto vegetarianism (a diet containing milk, milk products and eggs) is an in-between option, but for me there is not a vast difference between that and a meat eating diet. Just as many, if not more animals are killed and made to suffer in the factory farming system to produce milk and eggs compared to those raised to produce meat. I actually have the feeling that milk, especially concentrated milk such as cheese, has the largest amounts of suffering attached to it. Cheese appears in my third eye perception as a big glob of dense, negative energy, a tangle of long black threads of pain vibrating discordantly.

For the curious, I feel that eggs raised in someone’s backyard in a loving environment are the least impactful of the animal foods and could be helpful for those people who have troubles adapting to a vegan diet. On the other hand, even the grass fed cows which I have met have seemed sad. They craved more freedom and for their needs to be better considered. Perhaps there are happier cows than this, but I haven’t met any.

Veganism and the Environment

As I was saying, killing an animal for food can be intuited to cause more hurt than eating plant foods if we are sensitive enough to feel it. But also on the macro level, tremors are felt from our insensitivity, and it’s here that our unenlightened actions come back to us.

As far as global warming is concerned, the difference between meat eating vs. a veganism is equal to the difference between driving a standard car vs. an SUV according to one study on the effects of veganism on global warming. (Eshel & Martin, 2005)

In 2006 the United Nations issued a press release that stated;

According to a new report published by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization, the livestock sector generates more greenhouse gas emissions as measured in CO2 equivalent—18 percent—than transport. It is also a major source of land and water degradation.

The United States Environmental agency, while first admitting that

A strong livestock industry is essential to our nation’s economic stability, the viability of many rural communities, and a healthy and high-quality food supply.

goes on to say that

Animal waste has the potential to contribute [Andrew's note: they mean it DOES contribute] pollutants such as nutrients (e.g., nitrate, phosphorous), organic matter, sediments, pathogens (e.g., giardia, cryptosporidium), heavy metals, hormones, antibiotics and ammonia to the waters we use for drinking, swimming and fishing. In addition to water quality problems, AFOs can also contribute to significant air quality problems, including dust, smog, greenhouse gases, and odors.

(Source)

To put it in another way, the Earth was never meant to have so many carnivores in it. Veganism is a safe alternative to meat eating for humans, hence we had better start thinking about it if we want to keep on living here, because things can’t go on as they are.

In the wild, a carnivore has a symbiotic relationship with its prey. They prey animal has extra children to account for predation and the predator does not engage in practises that strip the land of all of its prey. It maintains its territory fiercely and keeps other predators out. I’m sure the prey would prefer not to be eaten, but from a wider perspective it’s all in balance and there is a beauty to the dance. For each predator, there is a number of prey animals, and for each prey animal, there is an ecosystem of plants and other animals that support them.

With us, we strip the ecosystem of all its balancing factors and do what we can to pack the maximum amount of meat out of the minimum amount of land. 30% of all of the world’s land goes into meat production according to the same UN report quoted above. Can you imagine what 30% of the entire Earth means? Most of this land was once forest and we are still cutting down more forest, including the vital rainforest to make more animal feedlots. Trees, especially the massive trees of the rainforest are carbon sinks which hold back global warming, so the global warming estimates before may have been understated.

If the world is so saturated with animal farms that we need to cut down forest to make more, then it’s obvious that there is a limit to how much meat we can eat. This limit once you’ve factored in sustainability is less than what we are eating now.

Sustainability and Sensitivity

We went to the macro, now back to the micro. The cause of macro environmental damage is actually a reflection of micro level sensitivity. Let me explain further.

Animals, while they are at a lower level of consciousness than humans, are more sensitive because they are not caught up in their thought-stream like we are.

Carnivores who are sensitive to their being and their environment don’t share their territory with many other carnivores, sensing that their food supply has a natural limit.

Herbivores, on the other hand, tend to live in herds for mutual empowerment (much like humans) and don’t eat meat.

Caught up in their thought-stream, humans aren’t sensitive enough to tune into their true nature and seem unable to decide if they want to live like a herbivore or a carnivore. They can’t tune into their surroundings or their natural wisdom either, leaving them with a short-sighted drive to win an imaginary battle against imaginary enemies for a mostly imaginary prize and a big bucket of real life pain and suffering.

There is a solution, which is spiritual development. You’d better hurry up about it, mind, because if I get dragged down with you I’ll f*ck you up when we get to the other side of the veil. My energy body has wings, so disincarnate I’m not to be messed with

Speaking in serious terms, we do have the solution to everything inside of us and becoming more sensitive – to our soul, to our surroundings, to life itself – is the way to access it. Death isn’t the worst part of it, ’cause we’ll just be born again (duh, didn’t everyone know that??) but the suffering we experience between the birth and death of our unnaturally short lives is worth dealing with — and is quite curable.

Veganism is just one of the many things which our souls will tell us to do if only we listen to them. The goal is not veganism, the goal is getting in tune with our souls; veganism is the by product. If this article doesn’t help you get more in tune with your soul, by the way, then going vegan is unlikely to improve things for you. Focus on spiritual development and wait until veganism just seems a logical and natural step to take.

The Health and Safety of Veganism

This talk about sensitivity gives me a good opportunity to phase into the health aspects of veganism. The micro level (suffering) and the macro level (environmental damage) are manifestations of the root cause (insensitivity). The personal level, which includes health and vitality, is also affected by this root cause.

I find theoretical talk highly frustrating in the realm of diet because without sensitivity, it’s so easy to get the “facts” to back you up on whatever you want them to, especially since there are already people in business making sure that (relatively) unbiased findings get presented in slanted ways. I will however present one fairly unbiased scientific perspective, from the American Dietetic Association:

It is the position of the American Dietetic Association that appropriately planned vegetarian diets, including total vegetarian or vegan diets, are healthful, nutritionally adequate, and may provide health benefits in the prevention and treatment of certain diseases. Well-planned vegetarian diets are appropriate for individuals during all stages of the life cycle, including pregnancy, lactation, infancy, childhood, and adolescence, and for athletes.… An evidence-based review showed that vegetarian diets can be nutritionally adequate in pregnancy and result in positive maternal and infant health outcomes. The results of an evidencebased review showed that a vegetarian diet is associated with a lower risk of death from ischemic heart disease. Vegetarians also appear to have lower low-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels, lower blood pressure, and lower rates of hypertension and type 2 diabetes than nonvegetarians. Furthermore, vegetarians tend to have a lower body mass index and lower overall cancer rates.

(Source)

Now for what I consider better than scientific results – sensitivity. (I do agree that sensitivity can work in conjunction to science, but due to the out of control thought-stream found in science, I find it rather uncomfortable for me to try. Quoting science also opens this article up for debate, and I really don’t want to debate, just make an exposée on my perspective for the benefit of others).

My body tells me that meat isn’t food. As Douglas Graham says, “When you leave a baby with a piece of fruit and a lamb, which one does the baby eat and which one does he play with?” (Source: The 80/10/10 Diet, a recommended book on raw veganism).

Meat is actually pretty tough for a human to eat raw, and real carnivores in the wild all eat meat raw. It’s also unappetising unless we dress it up and hide the bits that look like eyes, guts, and so on.

Fruit, on the other hand is so appetising in its natural state that supermarkets use it or its image to attract customers to their shops (I don’t have a source for this, it’s just observation — check it out) and brand name foods create their sweets, bars and other packages as “artificial fruits”, pleasing our fruit-sensing eyes with their bright colours.

When someone eats a diet that they as animals are not adapted to, health problems are the obvious consequence. Additionally, I believe that the extra suffering that goes into meat production over plant food production reverbates on our health. As I described above, the extra suffering and the unnaturalness of the lives which farm animals live are inextricably linked. And what is unnatural is unhealthy.

We could go into hormones and antibiotics used on animals, the toxins from the pesticides in plants accumulated in the animal’s flesh and secretions over their whole lifetime, mercury accumulation in fish, and so on. We could also mention findings linking meat eating to cancer, heart disease, diabetes and so on. Not to mention that cholesterol is not found in plants. Those concepts I picked out of memory and I don’t want to look for sources on them since remember, I only listened to these ideas over ideas presented in favour of meat eating because my sensitivity warned me against meat eating from the outset.

I can say that I lost a lot of weight from going vegan, which is said to be water retention weight. Other people have reported (as well as this) greater mental clarity, better emotions and more vitality. I think I did have this improvement, and certainly over the few years’ time since I gave up meat my life has improved in SO many ways and my longterm illness has been cured, though I can’t say how much was the veganism as so many changes happened at the same time.

Nowadays simply looking at meat makes me turn away. It has nothing that attracts me. My sensitivity says no and that’s that. To me it’d be similar to stubbing my toe on purpose or something. Why would I?

The Attraction of Negative Energy

Well why *would* you? To get metaphysical, it’s because there is a pull away from the lovely world of sensitivity, and that pull can be likened to addiction or fear.

The negative world is a weird world, and is mostly unknown to most people – because of course one of its modus operandi is deception. Basically some astral spirits and some people on Earth need negative energy (anger, conflict, fear). They need to create it in others to be able to feed.

Negative energy has the quality of addiction. It tells lies to make you believe in your dependence on it and it offers you poisoned gifts which make it hard to leave. Negative energy numbs the emotions by keeping you in a state of sleepiness. This numbness allows you to ignore pain, but in the long term it is actually what is really causing the majority of your pain.

I have the strong feeling that it is the world of negative energy which has made a veritable mafia out of the meat industry, getting government subsidies to make meat and animal products seem cheaper than they are, brainwashing people to believe they need more protein than they do, and stirring up panic about veganism being unnatural by inventing a long list of nutrients which animals are supposedly better sources of. Injecting vitamin B12 into animals because our modern way of living is removing it from the diet of everyone – and then suggesting that animal foods that are essentially fortified in B12 are the only “natural” sources of it.

I sense emotions in meat. When you eat it, you eat the negative energy it contains, including that of the animal’s screams as it went to slaughter. (And if you want to get physical plane here, consider that emotions are chemicals, too).

I have heard stories – one the direct experience of one of my best friends – of people trying meat after fasting to become more sensitive and becoming possessed with nervousness or anger. In the end, though, I have nothing but my sensitivity to tell me that meat eating is probably a contributor to a very large part of the fear, unease, pain, anger, conflict, sickness and suffering in the world.

Can Veganism Make a Difference?

In closing, let’s look at if veganism can really make a difference.

Die hard meat eaters often use the argument that “veganism can’t make any difference anyway” (usually after admitting that they don’t want to give up meat, and don’t agree that there is any environmental damage caused by animal rearing, and that they don’t care about or don’t believe in the suffering caused to the animals themselves). Is this true?

Use your sensitivity god damn it, and you wouldn’t have to ask me :p

One person doesn’t create a huge difference. But that’s fighting on the level of statistics anyway. Can you even imagine all of the suffering animals in the world? You can’t, and you can’t really care about them, because they’re in your head, and the only place you can express love and caring is here and now, in your senses and not your thought-stream.

If you follow your sensitivity, you know that the outcome will be good – and in fact the purpose of following your sensitivity is not the outcome but something like living through sensitivity for its own sake. (Ever wanted to know the meaning of life? Get into your senses and you will feel it).

But on the macro level. Can one person make a difference? Yes and no. As a single person your difference is small. As a part of a larger whole you are sending out waves, some loud and clear and many that are basically imperceptible to you, which create change in unexpected ways.

You are not separate from those around you – and what you do, the lead which you take, and the energies which you transmit both consciously and subconsciously cannot help but cause change. For the good, or for the bad. It’s your choice, and moreover it’s your responsibility whether you take it up or not – because our constant influence on the world that surrounds us is not something that we can abdicate.

Make a change. The world is depending on you.

Love,

Andrew Gubb, 8th July 2010.

Appendix: How To Go Vegan

I’ve written about this more in depth on my vegan recipe site, The Spiritual Vegan, though a short summary wouldn’t go amiss. Actually very little information is needed, though so long as you have fears it’s worth putting them to rest through good information. Study up on veganism and particularly look for the advice of those who have already gone vegan and who are doing well on the diet.

Legal Notice: Your health and your use of discernment to verify what is true are your responsibilities, not mine, and I excuse myself from all legal responsibility concerning your use of this advice. If you think a medical doctor or a System-certified nutritionist are really worth listening to, then be aware that I am not one of those.

I have the strong sense that veganism is a natural diet, and I think that’s worth keeping in mind as you transition. There is SO much fear about veganism as a diet knocking around it blows my mind. But if they knew that humans were naturally frugivore animals wouldn’t it be meat that they should be scared of?

Be wary of social pressure and be ready to answer constant questions about where you get your protein with smart alec comments such as “I steal it!”, “From my food, where do you get yours?”, “I have nodules in my roots which fix nitrogen for me and allow me to build basic amino acids”, and so on. If social pressure gets too much, find some new friends.

The diet itself is very easy. Don’t even think about combining proteins, looking for calcium, vitamin D (just get enough sunlight), omega 3, etc. The only thing you’ll need to supplement with is vitamin B12, which can be bought in large doses to take once a week for convenience.

It really is true that large amounts of protein are just not necessary. In my current diet (which is not standard vegan) I eat about 10% of my calories from protein. Actually, the average calories from protein are about 16% in meat eating diets, and 5% protein, a safe level, is almost impossible not to get if you eat enough food in calories. Check out Douglas Graham’s book “The 80/10/10 Diet” for more, and you can also go to www.30bananasaday.com to meet more than 3000 people who consume 5 to 10 percent of their calories from protein; many of them have been doing so for years, and all of them have far above average health.

For a basic (not 80/10/10) vegan diet, all you really need to do is to replace meat with starches such as wheat, potatoes, and other grains and tubers. Make them more interesting with a good balance of vegetables, herbs and spices and you may soon find you eat more delicious food on the vegan diet than you did on the meat eating diet!

If you miss meat on an emotional level, you can use dense foods such as tofu, seitan, shop bought meat alternatives, seeds, nuts and legumes to scratch that same itch. As protein is not necessary to worry about, these foods are simply for their psychological value. A number of condiments contain the “umami” flavour found in meat which can help you psychologically too, including shitake mushrooms, soy sauce, and miso. Experiment with these in your meals to make them more satisfying if you desire.

Cheese and milk both have their vegan alternatives you can buy in a shop, and you’ll find that most recipes you needed eggs for can be made inexplicably well without the stuff we were told was needed to “bind” the dough with. Get some vegan cookbooks for details.

To finish this appendix up, I want to leave you with a note that simply changing animal foods for starches is a step forward, but as you advance your sensitivity you will be drawn to other improvements in your diet. “The 80/10/10 Diet” was a hint in that direction, but for now, focus on the step that is in front of you.

I think as the world opens up to a higher consciousness we will be seeking out more and more a new leadership to follow.

Leaders who inspire, rather than control. Whose followers follow willingly and in full possession of the facts, because they volunteer to let these leaders represent them and take initiative on decisions. Who would gladly become their own leaders (and do) if at any point the leadership they find is inadequate.

The leadership or better said tyranny which is the norm in this world is set to slowly fade away or be transformed. Most of all I suspect it will fade away as more and more people wake up and decide not to keep giving away their energy to vampires – rather live their lives just as they want them to be. When the vampires can no longer feed, they will starve and be forced to go elsewhere.

A New Leadership

I am a leader at heart, so I often think about these things. What sort of initiatives would we undertake in a country of awakened people?

I had the thought of suggesting, as a truly democratic leader of this hypothetical country, that a village or town should undertake a zero-waste year. In that year no waste would be allowed to exit the perimeter of the town and the farm land around it. We could make a TV documentary about it that would be aired once a week during this whole year. Can you imagine? I think it would be very eye opening, both for highlighting in a graphic way the sort of things that we would we put of mind just because they are thrown on a pile we can’t see and for the sake of the innovative solutions the villagers came up with to reuse old waste.

Of course, the ultimate solution would be a zero-waste country, which I do believe is very possible. In nature there is no such thing as waste, for everything is recycled. Humanity is the only creature that prefers to imagine that there are parts of it that it can disown and pretend no longer exist, which then turn against them and cause huge destruction.

True Leadership

I think a lot about these sorts of things. How to make a better world. Initiatives to make a better life here. How good leadership could work as the part of a whole.

Leadership doesn’t change anything. Leadership isn’t above or outside those it works with. No-one is subject to true leadership without being able at any point to deny leadership its power (though they may still be affected by it indirectly). Tyranny demands people to follow; leadership invites them. Tyranny thinks itself the ambition of all people; leadership is just another way of service in a world of infinite possibilities.

Self Leadership

Of course, we are all our own leaders. Leadership is a skill and I feel like compartmentalisation of skills is quite unnatural. It’s good for each of us to focus on our strengths but not for us to give up our other skills so that we can focus on them. In the new one no-one will identify only as a “marketer” or a “doctor” but will know themselves first and foremost as human beings. And so there will be human beings with talent who take up the role of moving energy, moving people, and creating change. They will be human beings, beloved brothers and sisters, and they will be also called leaders.

And as well as these focused human beings, all people will take up the role of leader at some time or another. One day someone might come up with an idea to a local problem. They will send the idea around their local community and in days it will be integrated in every corner of the place. That’s leadership on a small scale.

And just living your life the way you want to is leadership. Rather than taking the path of least resistance and allowing others to define how you live, you can expose yourself to both resistance, criticism, praise and gratitude by making a new you. Maybe one day out of the blue you will go raw vegan. No-one else in your community is doing that. In one fell swoop, you’ve become a leader with a single person following – you. And like all true leaders, you demand no-one follow, but with your example you do invite them to follow. Perhaps your example will shine so bright that one day you will be writing books about raw foodism, talking in public and catalysing masses of converts. But it all starts with the one-person following, and I think in its essence this is what all true leadership is about.

Lightworkers and Leadership

So I guess this is what I think about leadership. Nevertheless we as highly conscious people must realise we live in a world of mostly sleepers who would rather follow a vampire than a true leader. In a situation like this leaders are lightworkers — those who choose to lead the way by choosing light for their one-person following, whether or not anyone else will follow.

The internet is a great place for true leadership to unfold, and it’s happening at this very moment. The vampires’ grip is becoming less strong over us, and it’s time to break it further and jam our footholds into this planet. Do it where you can. To me, the internet is the future.

I’d love to see us demand more freedom to create in the area of business and education too, to name a few things. I think this will happen when the lightworkers’ grip gets stronger on this planet. For now we are strongest when we are together, and seeing as we are so haphazardly sown throughout this planet the internet is the best way of connecting us.

I love you.

Someone on the Steve Pavlina forums wanted to know about male intimacy – I mean intimacy between two straight men. I think I have a few ideas I can write on the topic.

I believe it’s totally natural for men to want to hug, cuddle, touch, and be close to other men. I also believe men are trained not to, and any male who has not made a conscious effort to overcome his social conditioning, especially those who live in countries like the UK and the USA, is likely to be something close to a cripple in social and emotional health.

When I came to Spain at the tender age of 14, I definitely was – in fact more than most Brits. I didn’t touch anyone except sexually (if I could) and related with my typically British sense of humour – something akin to playful insults. It’s what I knew how to do.

Slowly, I came to open up emotionally to become much warmer than most Brits. I hug people who I don’t necessarily want to have sex with, quite a lot. I also have a lot of sex with people, but that’s another matter. I have relationships with male friends in which I hug frequently and even say “I love you”. To be honest it doesn’t feel that different from the love I have with women, except that we don’t escalate into the penetrative. I feel it deeply in my heart chakra, and it feels equally good to give and receive.

I have a lot more to explore about social intelligence, something which I need to find creative solutions for as I’m highly sensitive and find it difficult to be in crowded areas or with people who have much negativity in them. Still I’ve gone a long way in my journey, and have crafted a non conventional social life I’m really very happy about.

By the way, you should know for this article that I *think* I’m bisexual; I have never been with a man so there remains that lingering doubt. So my perspective is unusual, but none of my male friends have sex with me, and I’m not particularly infatuated with them, so I think my advice can serve, just as a man can be simply friends with a woman who he doesn’t want to make love to for whatever reason.

Male Intimacy and Gender Roles

I don’t like to label myself as feminist or anything else, but I do feel like there are very negative things hammered into us as we learn our identities as either male or female. I do agree there are real differences between the sexes, but I also believe that 1) they may be fewer than most people think, or of a different sort to what they think and 2) whatever the differences, it’s absurd and destructive to *enforce* them. There is no way any person “should” be. Only the way that their soul calls them to be. Be it feminine, masculine, up or down or anything in between.

I actually think that in a more advanced society where social pressure didn’t attempt to change people into its own vision of acceptable, there would be more clearly feminine men, and more clearly masculine women. The latter is a little more common nowadays by the way – it’s more “okay” for a woman to be muscular and competitive than it is for a man to be exuberant, soft and wear a dress. I actually wear women’s clothes sometimes when I am in company that would understand me, because for me it feels “right” when I’m feeling feminine. I’m not saying you have to though. Perhaps my whole point is you don’t have to do or be anything. You choose, no obligation.

Now, closeness and caringness has been dumped into the “feminine” box in our crazy society, and men who break the rules are attacked by their friends. But there’s good news. You can find better friends :p

Society has also decided that it’s a capital offense for men to appear to be in any way homosexual, unless they are. If you are homosexual you will generally be tolerated nowadays, but it’s a scary thing for a guy to admit that he is even so, and for a good reason; you may still be attacked. Those who aren’t homosexual or who choose not to express homosexual attraction try to avoid this possibility of attack as much as possible.

However, many people don’t WANT to attack you for stepping outside the “rules”. And they would also love for you to show them that it is safe to be themselves with you. These are the people who will most benefit you as friends.

Don’t Compartmentalise Sex

Now I’m going to add to this. It’s OK to have sex with people.

It’s OK.

It really is.

It’s OK to have sex with women.

It’s OK to have sex with men if you want to.

It’s also OK not to.

It’s OK to hug and touch because you want to hug and touch. You don’t need to get anything “out” of it. It’s love, expressed physically. And those guys who can’t comprehend loving for its own sake are dead inside. Their life is a constant torture, in fact, but they have GOTTEN USED TO the pain of not connecting with people and, with nothing to contrast it with, think they are not feeling pain. They call their state of constant dissatisfaction happiness, reassured by television and the messages of the authority figures in their society that they are doing right, while all the time they and everything else in this damnable matrix sucks out their energy until they die before their time and call it a long happy life.

Am I being a bit harsh here?

But yeah, it’s totally OK to love for the for sake of it.

Touching is love.

It’s totally OK to have sex for the sake of it too.

And it’s totally OK not to if you don’t want to.

And this applies to both sexes.

Free Your Mind

To have close contact with the same sex as a man, you’re going to have to break a few rules. You need to have male friends who will be open to sharing contact with you, and you’ll also find it helpful to have male friends who will help you feel comfortable in doing so as you learn; friends who already have no sense of discomfort with this intimacy.

I would recommend travel to open your horizons. In Spain, for instance, men are much warmer towards each other, and everyone is warmer towards each other, in fact. For the best experience in this regard, go to South Spain and avoid Barcelona like the plague. (Guess where I live. That’s right. Barcelona, HAH).

Some of the warmest people I’ve met, and the most open to man-on-man platonic love, come from Indonesia. I know a lot of Indonesians online and with more than one I have a deep love relationship including (virtual hugs) and “I love you”s. I plan on living there for a while, so I will update you on what I learn from the experience.

In general, breaking free from conformity is hard. It basically requires you to mix with non judgmental people, and to be honest – these are rare. I have very select friends because I am very very particular about expressing myself exactly as I am, no mask, no compromise, and I generally find my friends in the spiritual scene – reiki exchanges and such, as well as online. Look, too, anywhere where people mingle who have chosen to question the unbendable precepts of our society. I used to associate with anarchists for instance, and although angry, they are a surprisingly high consciousness lot.

The first step to breaking programming is to recognise it for what it is. The rest of it is basically pushing your comfort zone and getting used to new patterns. It’s uncomfortable, but it’s not that hard in the end. And it’s worth it

Be who you are.
