I feel like an empty room. There is no life here, everything is still. Only wind playing with the curtain gives some illusions of energy present yet. Summer is dying slowly and queietly. Minute after minute, raindrops, leaves some seeds forcing vulnerable resistance of the curtain are landing inside. The outdoors is swallowing indoors.

No furniture, no pictures, no carpets or rugs just nothing that you could make you want to stay. Just unborn children's laughter keeps echoing among naked walls.

I go to toy shops pretty often. Well, the reason for that is not that I’m particularly keen on teddy bears and other cuddly, fluffy things. In my case, it’s kinda habit I have had since I started teaching English to the blind. At the very beginning of this part of my professional life I had to change my approach towards teaching process completely. I had taught before but then my assumption was that students in 80% acquire knowledge via vision and what to do in the case of students who use every sense except for sight? And at this point, toy shops came really handy. They provided me all teaching aids or simply “props” I needed. Now going through boxes with toys is just an unconditioned reflex. This way I purchased an elephant (visible in the picture)

And did you know that If you are in love you can see elephants?! :)

This long discourse on elephants made me to think about elephant skin. Have you noticed that it looks a bit like a maze. Insects living in the skin of an elephant make long distances everyday not knowing where they get stuck finally; in the mouth, in the ear, or in the ass.

Isn't similar in life, generally? We think we make conscious, reasonable decisions but in fact we are groping in the dark, many a time ending up in the... ass.

And to finish this stream of conscious I'll tell that elephants make me think about dinosours. I feel like a dinosour myself. Well in terms of extinct species. Well... I mean I feel like the only living representative of an extinct species;) And in a result, nobody is like me, just nobody!!!

A few weeks ago I saw glimpse of hope when I learned that some scientists dug a mammoth out. I thought that at last I found my half! Well joy ceased really quickly when it turned out the mammoth was female...

Some people believe, I’m among them, that a single person is like a fractal of universe. Bright moments always lead to gloomy moments in my life. Never opposite...

Again I have a feeling that I’m participating in a Greek tragedy. Really unthinkable coincidences have led me to even more unthinkable situations. At the moment, I’m really fed up with walking, searching calling… Again I’m at crosswords when it comes to my professional life and other aspects too. And more and more questions are arising staying unanswered...

The situation repeats itself year after year actually. There’re two months left to my birthday and in May I’m always a bit down and it’s not a question of growing old, to tell the truth I wouldn’t like to be younger even one day. The thing is though I must admit I’m successful a list of successes always seems shortish somehow and I have a sensation of wasted time.

And now, honey, I'm not going any further...Now I want to stop. Going this path's too painful and tiresome. I’ll rather stay here withering instead.

This post is dedicated to my friend Dag, who can read between the lines though not always gets my metaphors ;P Hope the desert-like-feeling making us two flowers on fire will go away soon. That’s my wish for our birthdays :*

This post was supposed to be an outlet for my frustration on Polish competitions for fashion designers especially on Golden Thread. Last year the organizors really goofed up announcing one designer to be the winner while the another actually won. This year they want to cover the bad impression by inviting Kasia Tusk to the jury!!! A round of applause, please! :> For me it's like covering the bad impression with the even worse one. If this competition and other ones aim to at least to pretend to be professional invite E X P E R T S to the jury at last! Not so-called trend setters or silly celebrities or teen bloggers but EXPERTS: fashion photographers, other designers, costumers... But I know that's just a wishful thinking. That's why I'm finishing the issue here and taking up the new one the actual subject of this post.

Graphene - revolution in Fashion

Graphene,the worlds' thinnest, carbon-based material discovered at The University of Manchester in 2004 caused great excitement among scientists. Nine years later it causes great excitement in me! Though graphene is nothing else but a single sheet of graphite its properties are completely different. It perfectly combines mechanical, electrical and thermal conductivity. Electrons building graphene show great mobility which gives enormous prospects for production of electronic devices of minute sizes with superior performance. Graphene is very likely to squeeze silicone out!

To my surprise there haven’t really been any groundbreaking uses of graphene in fashion yet. Only Alistair Carr seemed to replicate the structure of monolayer graphene in one of his collections and that's it.

Quest 4 Quality

Who killed quality - I want to know! The days when you really wanted to get something that was top shelf and you got it are gone. I mean it! They are GONE! No matter how much you fork out - you won't get the quality you're looking for. I've been a fashion designer on a regular basis three years now. And it's been time I've spent in search of top quality zips, buttons and fabrics. Most of my tries were in vain...

Aren't those projects dating back to 1950's powerful? And shouldn't we be ashamed by the fact that Cristóbal Balenciaga didn't have all these fabulous devices we do and extraordinary facrics with prints, LED lights or whatever you may imagine and still he was able to reach pure perfection? And it's not that I'm just sentimental and I tend to make goo-goo eyes to vintage stuff. Again it's a question of one thing: QUALITY!

One of Balenciaga's customer wrote about him a perfect epitaph:

At the moment people are used to cheap as dirt clothes (I don't need to add what quality they are) and expect from me to design and sew a silk dress for them for 80 Zl, while the fabric itself costs 400 Zl...

French Chic - 10 Commandments

“Il faut souffrir pour etre belle.”? Bullshit! According to the icon of fashion, Coco Chanel: "Luxury must be comfortable, otherwise it is not luxury." So basics have been covered. Now it's time to think what it takes to achieve this unconstrained style of mademoiselles and madames. I bet that most of you thought about money in the first place. Do you really have to fork out to look like a Parisienne? Again, bullshit! :)

Let me prepare ten "commandments" sticking to which will allow you to mimic successfully French style.

I. Wear dark and neutral colours (black, navy, grey and white)
II. Tracksuits? Forget about tracksuits!!!
III Buy yourself a good pair of jeans. What does it mean good? Well, compelementing your figure.
IV. Don't dare to wear leggins without a skirt or tunic. C’est vulgaire!
V. Jacket. Wear mens jackets but make them more femminie. How? Combine it with a flattering top and add a nice belt for examaple, and ta-da! :)
VI. It's about layers! Wear clothes in a natural way. Everyday clothes are not your uniform, let some bits of your sweater just to peep out from behind your leather jacket. Add an eye-catching scarf et voila!
VII. Trench. Your wardrobe would be just useless without it.
VIII Don't wear sets. Everybody looks in them riddiculous. And a Parisienne seeing you in them would think your useless at clothes combination. Therefore mix, mix, mix! Expensive and cheap go really well together.
IX. Accessories. Don't wear too much at a time. A necklace, bracelet and earings piled up on one woman are out of question!
X. Shoes. Parisienne hate breaking their legs that's why they avoid stilletoes and they invest in safety, namely in ballerines. Sometimes even sneakers will do! Hard to imagine, huh? ;)

Basically, keep your outfit simple. An obvious combination of a T-shirt and jeans can look tres chic when combined with an attractive accessorium.

For the first time I've heard about analgesia from one of the books by Stieg Larsson.
It's a condition which is characterized by lack of pain sensation. Sounds like a really cool disease... ;)

It took me about six days to read the whole trilogy. And I must admit that for a very long time no books have engrossed me so much!Though at first sight they seemed to longish it soon turned out that they are so skillfully written and end with a cliff-hungers that a reader is just dying for more! That's a great pity that it's only trilogy. And though you may hope the writer will write something more... you hope in vain. Stieg Larsson is dead...

An old saying goes: "Don't judge the book by the cover" But I do! And I find the original covers by a Swedish illustrator, Jörgen Einéus, smashingly the best! They make the books by Larsson just jump off the shelves.

I don't like American ones at all therefore I don't even show them here. What is more, the American titles of the trilogy are mistranslated.

Män som hatar kvinnor translates as Men Who Hate Women has been translated as The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

the second volume Flicken som lekte med elder surprise, surprise! has received an literal translation The Girl Who Played with Fire

Luftslottet Som Sprägdes, translates literally as The Air Castle That Blew Up but it has been translated as The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest.

It was wise of Polish publishers to use the original covers. Though Asian (I&III Chinese, II Japanese) versions are really cool too.

1920's fashion is still present. To me it's no surprise. It was a time when people made a big step to the future and with no sentiment said good bye to the previous era. The change embraced all fields of life; manufacturing, technology, music. And the revolution of that time still has wide repercussions. But the greatest change took place in women themselves. They were fed up with waiting for company of men in everything. (note that many young men had died in the WWI). They wanted to have FUN, FUN, FUN! And the first thing they did was to kick out old-fashioned torture devices like corsets and crinolines. Freedom reigned!

That's a necklace I made being under impression of Frida's works. Later this necklace and the other one were used in a relly cool photo session arranged by Gabriela Bazan.

No doubt, Frida Kahlo didn't care about fashion. She didn't follow any trends. She used clothes and jewellery just for self expression. But with no intention to she became a trend setter, or as you may prefer an It-Girl ;)
