I was a bit distracted by the usual whatnot, so I hope to combine this announcement... Since this weekend is also the anniversary of Earth Day, here's a track that combines both Gate's birthday, and his interest in ecology. Here's "Man and his Environment" from a mid 1970's release "Gate's On The Heat", that aimed a song at outgoing prez Nixon, and presciently predates our current Republican President's vague recognition of global warming. Clarence Gatemouth Brown - Man and His Environment How ironic that his final days as an 81 year old man suffering from cancer were spent evacuating his Slidell Louisiana home, and dealing with the effects of the catastrophic consequences of Hurricane Katrina, and the lame government response to the aftermath. Clarence Gatemouth Brown was born in Orange Texas on April 18th 1924, and he began playing music professionally in the post war 1940's period. After winning over the crowd's at Houston's Peacock club, he also recorded originally for The Peacock label. His "Oakie Dokie Blues" becoming one of the all time electric guitar showcases in the genre. He eventually ended up in Nashville heading up the houseband for 26 episodes of the Beat TV show in the early 60's. After decades of juke joints and obscurity, ups &amp;amp; downs, and even a stint as a deputy sheriff, in the 1980's his southern blues stylings and immense musical talents were finally better recognized and he won a blues Grammy for his Rounder album 'Alright Again!'. Alright Again! Gatemouth was increasingly sought out on the festival circuit, and played up to 300 dates a year. He was even recognized by the US State Dept as an official American ambassador of music, and had toured worldwide, including war torn and politically unstable places like East Africa, Central America and parts of the former Soviet Union. He released "Timeless", his last album of a 60 year career, shortly before he died in a stressful period of September 2005 right after moving out of his flooded home during the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. One of the unique aspects of Clarence Gatemouth Brown's popularity were his appearances on Hee Haw with pal Roy Clark. Here's a tune from a record they did together in the late 1970's... Clarence 'Gatemouth' Brown &amp;amp; Roy Clark - The Drifter From Makin' Music released on MCA in the fall of 1979, despite a 90's reissue, the record is now quite rare, with a recent perusal of Amazon showing the cheapest used copy available for $173...yikes! Below is a list of some of the many recordings still available at reasonable prices via either the usual online CD dispensaries, or for as downloads through iTunes, Amazon, eMusic and other digital music stores that Clarence Gatemouth Brown's music is featured on... Blues Ain't Nothing Standing My Ground Live From Austin Texas Bogalusa Boogie Man SSC Lightning In a Bottle Real Life Dirty Work at the Crossroads 1947-1954 Pressure Cooker Gate Swings One More Mile In New Orleans Man Just Got Lucky The Blues Ain't Nothin' Essential Blues - House of Blues Volume 1 The Blues of Clarence Gatemouth Brown San Antonio Ballbuster No Looking Back 1947-1951 In Concert Gates's On The Heat Down South In The Bayou Country Johnny's Blues - A Tribute To Johnny Cash The Alligator Records Christmas Collection Texas Swing wow.... yer still here? ok so, fer all the real blues hounds diligently digging through the digital dirt, here's a couple bonus tracks, the first from the late great Memphis Slim, off the classic Rockin The Blues collection... Memphis Slim - Mother Earth And, just because I can, here's something obscure about your planet from the irrepresible and naughty nutcase known as Kim Fowley... From the long out of print album "The Day The Earth Stood Still"... Released in 1970, the year of the 1st ever Earth Day, it has a tune that delves into the state of the seas as only Mr. Fowley can... I've been privy to birth, and death, in all it's forms including human, economic and animal... and done a whole lotta living as well... Saw some great music recently including two shows from one of my fave bands, The Slackers, and been sweating it up as summer comes into view... I could go on for hours, as many of you well know, so I'll spare ya the details and just get on with da music... Seems like that's what you kids want anyhow... So hopefully you'll appreciate what ya get, cuz what ya get today...is what ya get... One of the ways I occupy my idle hours is checking out new music, and of course, these days much of it is obtained online. While trolling nefarious sources can be appealing, one of the best ( and legal) ways I've found to go about this is via my eMusic subscription... I'm gonna belabor a point, and tell ya what I feel is still a good way to support your fave musicians... Instead of scouring the web for torrents or whatever Badongo Rapidshare scheme or whatnots is popular... consider the positive impact you can have by simply buying some of that slippery stuff now and zen... For the past few years I've been a subscriber to eMusic's very affordable and convienent mp3 download service. It's probably one of the most underrated deals online, or in music in general these days. While the much hyped I-Tunes service offers plenty DRM coated AAC codec tracks for a buck each, and Amazon has recently jumped into the game with similarly priced DRM free MP3s, eMusic has been doing it longer than both, and at a much better price per track. My subscription gets me all over the musical map for about 25 cents a song, all for a nominal ten bucks a month that really goes a long way. The best part is just knowing that somehow a few nickels are getting tossed at writers, composers and legitimate rights holders, and struggling labels can accurately gauge the popularity of their bands. For the price of one full album download at Amazon or iTunes, I find myself getting somewhere around 40-50 tracks a month at least, and often there are plenty more free samples thrown in by record labels interested in expanding their reach with samplers and such. For example the Tratore label out of Brazil is offering a 15 track Samba sampler currently of modern Brazilian artists, giving me a chance to sample a diverse array of music i would likely not otherwise find on my own. Here's a list of just some of the newer offerings on on eMusic's website that came in recently, most just within the past month or so... So intermingled, herein for the truly curious are stray mp3 tracks that I also scored through the site... dozens of which you can score too if ya hit em up for the free trial... and possibly hundreds more if ya end up sticking around for the $10 bucks a month like I have for the past couple years. Now I ain't a salesman, but here's some of that music... which should do most of the explaining ... Here's a cut off that free Brazilian Samba sampler from the Tratore label I mentioned above... Alexandre Grooves featuring Seu Jorge - Amanha eu nao vou trabalhar Here's another Brazilian artist I discovered through a previous free Tratore sampler... A really ripping musical experimentalist with psychedleic leanings named Fernando Catatau whose band goes by the musical moniker Cidadão Instigado Cidadão Instigado - O Verdadeiro Conceito de um Preconceito Cidadão Instigado "O Verdadeiro Conceito de um Preconceito" (mp3) from "O Ciclo da Dê.cadência" (Tratore) Buy at iTunes Music Store Buy at eMusic Stream from Rhapsody Buy at Amazon More On This Album As you can imagine I never have a shortage of potential new fave mp3 tracks to burn onto mix CDs, and I am just clicks away from a vast variety of tunes that includes everything from Nina Simone to Testament to Judas Priest to Louis Prima. From the classic country holy Hank trinity of Hank Locklin, Hank Williams &amp;amp; Hank Thomp</itunes:summary><itunes:keywords>mp3,San,Francisco,Lil,Mike,left,coast</itunes:keywords><description>I have had a busy few weeks since I was last regularly posting anything here...

You can spend a lot of time driving around on the freeway trying not to be horribly annoyed by their heinously "hip" corporate radio. The few minutes I interrupted my own musical choices to listen to the pandering pablum on the airwaves felt like hours. I was quickly inundated with with lousy Linkin Park soundalike atrocities until I was forced to keep the FM on permanent hiatus. Fortunately I was stock piling music for the long drive up the I-5 and had some self selected tunes to ease the monotony... So in honor of the fact I made it home (even after the car's ignition failure outside of some sad lil lonely burg named Lost Hills...) Here's some songs I either listened to or purchased out on there on lonely road to and from nowhere... The list will get longer as I have time, but here's a few to get this party started... I heard this track pop up in the CD rotator as the signs for $5 diesel whizzed by out the side windows, I imagined how expensive it must be just to keep a band on the road this summer. I've had this album since it came out circa 1982, and this is from a newly remastered edition of Diary of A Madman that I scored in a Modesto strip mall on a trip a few years ago. I love how the the first three tracks in a row still just sail into the stratosphere like few albums ever... There's only 8 songs in total, but when ya throw down three totally timeless and still fresh sounding hard rock classics in the first 15 minutes, it's plenty of punch to offer the punters. The mighty "Flying High Again" starts things off with a massive head banging, fist pumping fury, followed by the monumental stomper "Over The Mountain", and then there's this next lil' anthem. For some reason this melancholy meandering mellow metal classic with it's screaming Randy Rhodes solo and seven minutes of balladeering is never far from my heart... It may sound cheesy, but Ozzy's usually right, and it's decades later and you still can't kill rock n roll, and it is really my official religion and my law... now get out of the fast lane if yer still reading the map... Ozzy Osbourne - You Can't Kill Rock And Roll I was startled to come across this next oldie but goodie still in the shrinkwrap at a flea market somewhere between Bellflower and Paramount, and while I prefer Joe Jackson's 1980 original, this version from the Persistence Of Time album in 1990 by Anthrax ain't half bad either... Especially if yer pickin' up speed on the 10 on an overpass above a huge line of losers trying to get into a taping of American Idol ... Anthrax - Got the Time Here's one from the excellent casually corrupted country music makin' fool known as Mr Jesse Dayton. He totally won me over after I caught him opening for The Supersuckers several years back, and I can't ever seem to get enough of his shtick. This tune is in fact a Supersuckers cover, and this bastard son of George Jones sponges it up and squeezes it out perfectly. This was off his self released South Austin Sessions collection on his Stag label, but he's got lots of other great stuff out you should dig into if yer curious. Jesse Dayton - Road Worn &amp; Weary I see he's out and about playing shows with Mike Ness everywhere but here, and all over Texas as usual, and he's even got his Mexican vacation gig in Puerta Vallarta all booked up as well. Looks like he'll be playing in California at the Ink &amp; Iron Festival on the Queen Mary in Long Beach in early June. That's fine &amp; dandy if yer a tatoo sporting So Cal creep, but I haven't pounded shots with him here in San Francisco since Thee Parkside changed ownership awhile back and he was likely banned for life... Anyhow, if ya see him ... tell him I'm holdin' my own out here, but I miss him and this shit has to be reconciled... or else... see ya laters kids...http://www.text-link-ads.com/xml_blogger.php?inventory_key=EE14Q49Z3RV9U37FYWAC&amp;feed=1</itunes:summary><itunes:keywords>mp3,San,Francisco,Lil,Mike,left,coast</itunes:keywords><description>I was in Los Angeles earlier this week,( actual photographic proof seen here in this pic on the Hermosa pier). First up are some guys who wish to preserve some of their anonymity while they test out a new sound of sorts... Known as feisty noisemakers in days of yore, marriages, more money and a fancy Mac enabled with Garage Band have mellowed them somewhat and sees them spinning out some preening poppier material... Elk Eyes - Mona Lisa Elk Eyes – So Long An elk's eyes are apparently designed to detect movement, even the slightest shifting of grass as a predator approaches... but will you approach? The band name was handed to them by the fairly well known female artist who did their demo cover art, and so if ya like it, let em know what &amp; why at their new and virgin like unfettered &amp; unfriended myspace page... http://www.MySpace.com/ElkEyes It's Memoral Day weekend, and if there was ever a better time to post this next all american war referencing track...Uh, I don't know about it, but it was probably back in 2003 when it was first recorded. I've had this song sitting around for a few years on a demo disc, but i guess it's your turn ... especially now that it's available officially why not? Anyhow, things like dual LP &amp; CD releases take awhile when yer an anarchist luddite punk band, and working on a tiny budget with little overall organizational or financial forces backing you. However, it was worth the wait, and now finally Shotwell's new Patriot CD/LP is out as I write. Here's track 11, from the orginal demo I've had for awhile, but am now sharing in hopes y'all won't sleep on the rest of this scrappy album.Shotwell - Halliburton Yawn I caught the band at a show in SF the other day and they were playing at the finest level I've seen them at in ten years. The bottom end is well represented and of course with the dual vocal/guitar attack featuring Tony Rojas joining the mighty Jimmy Broustis, things get riled up quick. I like the way the two get yelping away over the top, and it was a great sweaty set. If you'd like to order the new Shotwell Lp or CD, well I suggest you get on it, as they are limited pressings and only $9 postpaid from Thrillhouse Records... I believe some copies are available through other sources, but I suggest you go direct. ( p.s there are only 600 some copies of the vinyl so get yours now!) Here's a track that's included on the new LP/CD but first appeared in aversion heard on The Letters From The Landfill compilation from Left Of The Dial records... Here it is as heard on that collection originally out circa 2004... Shotwell - Dust Of The Dawn So... if yer still interested, we'll finish this meandering memorial mix with just a couple more Shotwell tracks here... These last two tracks are from Shotwell's last fairly hard to find release, The Devil Has It's Day And for all you cover art aficionados, here's some never before seen, at least online anywhere that i know of, original color mock ups of a cover for the CD reissue in 2006... this time entitled "for The Devil Has It's day" Shotwell - Mudpile Shotwell - Pick Axe anyhow if that ain't enough for ya, here's a preview of Shotwell's debut full length Celery Beef &amp; Iron which emerged about 10 years ago on the Broken Rekids lable, the only record they hae available online for downloads... Amazon.com Widgets that should do ya'll for now I suppose enjoy! I first got hipped to them about 10 years ago, mainly due to their association with Rancid. In fact if it wasn't for the Slackers ska horn infusion and Vic's great Hammond B-3 work on Rancid's Out Come The Wolves, that rough &amp; tumble band likely would have never crossed over as huge via those early radio hits like Ruby Soho and Time Bomb. Well years have passed and those Brooklyn based Slackers never managed to break like the boys outta Berkeley. They still tour relentlessly, know how to leave a crowd sweaty, and make a helluva fine racket. I'm tossing in some bonus mp3 tracks for those who wade through the post, the pics and tour dates, so stay alert folks. These first couple tracks here are from CDs I picked up at recent shows ( see the pics below) The first track is a Bob Dylan cover, but one that's given the Slacker shakedown, tossing away the original's lopey 70's country twang for a more upbeat traetment that goes here there and everywhere. I imagine that ol' Mr. Zimmerman never imagined this particular Ruggiero scenario... The Slackers - Wanted Man taken from From The Boss Harmony Sessions... This next track is from a recently released Vic Ruggiero solo album, and he when he took a second from busily paying respects to his female fans, and handed it to me at Bender's Bar in da Mission, there was no cover or title on the disc. Fortunately through the internet connected magic of the Gracenote CDDB system I discovered that this baby is entitled "Something In My Blindspot". According to i-Tunes, it just came out this spring and is a fine example of an eclectic indie record with splashes of ska, folk and rock sprinkled throughout. Here's the title track from this Moanin'' records release, another song that briefly quotes Dylan as well at the start... Vic Ruggiero - Always Something My Blindspot The Slackers are busy touring in support of their new album Self Medication which just came out as well recently. Here's a preview of that disc if yer interested. The Slackers are out and about as usual, but by the looks of these dates, unless you are in NYC, Japan or Glastonbury you might need awhile longer before they hit your neighborhood. But be sure to make time when you get a chance to catch these guys, I doubt you'll regret it... That sort of gets me off the literary hook I suppose Lagwagon - May 16th Not sure what Joey's distraught about...but somehwre under Dave's thunderclaps, and perhaps those dual guitars is a story with a meaning that will become apparent in any of the sonic gaps... I haven't been updating the lil blog here much lately in case ye noticed... I've had a lot of stuff going on, and not a lot of inspiration. One of the things taking wind out of my sails recently was the painful way I've had to say goodbye to two of my closest friends recently. Two guys I've known for nearly twenty years... are finito, dead, gone. Both died in my arms over the past two weeks... my cats. About a week ago or so Cho Cho, the 18 year old gay siamese cat took ill suddenly and was gone within a couple days. He stopped eating and drinking, went limp and the vets couldn't explain any of it. Then just as Cho Cho was sent off for cremation, the other cat started showing the same symptoms... So lasterday after keeping him alive with subcutaneous fluid injections, and eye dropper feedings of liquid diet, Cho Cho's roommate, 19 year old Little Ricky, just couldn't takle the 98 degree heat... After days of agonizing, I had to take him down to the vet for some euthanasia... and $300 later I had a dead cat in my arms... Goodbye Ricky... He fought off kicking ghetto kids in the SF projects, racoons in the hills of Sonoma, and dogs in Oakland... and even used to help me put up flyers... i'm not sure if it was some poisoned canned food or what, but these guys weren't in that bad of health... and then blammo! I watched the grim reaper take the life out of these good little boys... Entrance - Grim Reaper Blues Entrance "Grim Reaper Blues" (mp3) from "Prayer of Death" (Tee Pee Records) Buy at iTunes Music Store Buy at eMusic Buy at Amazon More On This Album Anyhow... we'll keep this Friday 5 mournful mix moving along ... I've already bought a ticket for Motorhead this summer, and word is they're just along for the ride on a bill with Dio fronting Black Sabbath, and Judas priest with Halford back at the helm... I'll be wearing black I suppose... Motorhead - Killed By Death ( live from the 1985 Motorhead 10th Birthday Party at the Hammersmith Odeon ) Judas Priest - Beyond The Realms of Death ( live in Denver 1980 ) and we'll wrap up today with a track from a 1991 demo made on a 4 track cassette machine in a moldy basement on Harrison St in San Francisco. The song later appeared in a more sonically enhanced version produced by Bill Laswell on this band's major label debut... I also helped write the last verse of the lyrics after the bridge... check it out Bomb - All My References Are Dead ( from the Sex Kiss Cage Demo, the Bill Laswell produced major label released version available on the Hate Fed Love album on iTunes ) More Bomb info at http://www.hitsofacid.com You could also download plenty of their indie back catalog at eMusic The major label release hate Fed Love, is now up at Amazon, preview it here Amazon.com Widgetshttp://www.text-link-ads.com/xml_blogger.php?inventory_key=EE14Q49Z3RV9U37FYWAC&amp;feed=1</itunes:summary><itunes:keywords>mp3,San,Francisco,Lil,Mike,left,coast</itunes:keywords><description>Today is May 16th

(he was a perhaps slightly less well known 1930's &amp;amp; 1940's era celeb.) Not being the biggest fan of Hitler, a man who's recorded works are many but overall somewhat lacking in entertainment value, I guess I'll talk up Mr. Hampton the musician instead... As a Los Angeles based drummer, Lionel Hampton had a cameo in the 1934 Bing Crosby film Pennies From Heaven alongside trumpeter Louis Armstrong.[citatation]. Hampton took immediately to Armstrong, driving him around, and the two worked up routines in their act where they marched off the bandstand with their instruments, and ended Hampton with sliding on his belly. From an interview with "Hamp" quoted at Big Band Library.com "Well, Louis was my idol. I met him, we were talking, then he said, 'Oh, I got to call a car so I can go to the city and go to work.' And I said, 'You don't need a car, you can use my car.' So I took him where he was going. yeah, we hit it off." "Louis used to sing 'Rockin' Chair Got Me' and I'd be the old man in the rocking chair. 'Old rockin' chair's got you, father, cane by your side,' he'd sing to me, and I'd have on a duster coat, a false beard, an old straw hat and a cane-my props. Oh, boy! I thought I was something, doing that with Louis Armstrong!" "Louis and I did an act on 'Hold That Tiger.' I'd go into the audience hollering through my snare drum: 'Oh! (Hold that tiger!), Oh! (Hold that tiger!).' And on the last one, when Louis hit that high C or F-which in those days, every trumpet player would try to hit, but Louis would hit it and hold it-I'd run from the audience and slide on my belly, with the snare drum on, across the dance floor, and hit the cymbal I'd set up with my bass drum on the floor. I'd hit my cymbal to cut off Louis' high note, and the band would cut off, too, and we never missed, we'd always hit it right on time. People got a big kick out of that. Yeah, Louis and I were tight." It would not be as a drummer though that he would gain his fame, but as a vibraphonist... Lionel Hampton played vibraphone publicly for the 1st time in a gig backing up Louis Armstrong, while a member of the Stan Hite orchestra, who'd all been hired in LA as a backing group by the famous New Orleans jazz man. Armstrong was reputably Hampton's musical inspiration, but another man played a very important role, his next boss and musical collaborator... After a stint attempting to lead his own group, Lionel eventually joined forces with famed clarinetist Benny Goodman. Hampton often credited Goodman with leading a wave of integration, giving breaks to "colored" musicians like Hamp in the days of deep seeded racist segregation. Hampton was a dynamite performer as a drummer, also a respected pianist who could boogie woogie with the best of 'em, and also an occasional vocalist... Here's Lionel Hampton on an old Victor disc in a rare spot of singing &amp;amp; of course playing his vibraphone in the Benny Goodman Quartet, a 1937 era combo ... Lionel Hampton - Vibraphone Blues "If The Blues Was Whiskey, I'd Stay Drunk All The Time..." Here's Hampton backing up vocalist Johnny Hodges's reading of "Sunny Side of the Street" Lionel Hampton ( w/ Johnny Hodges) - Sunnyside Of The Street Hampton soon became very popular, not only as a member of Benny Goodman's band in the later 1930's, but beginning in 1940 and through the early 1950s , as a notable "big band" leader on his own. Hamp's orchestra's third recording in 1942 produced the classic version of "Flying Home", featuring a solo by Illinois Jacquet that helped pave the way for the music that eventually became popularly known as Rhythm &amp;amp; Blues. This in turn creates further frustration and makes me ponder world affairs, voting in Today's California election, the prospects of what awaits us in musicon this new release Tuesday, and ever more Increasing Signs Of My Aging &amp; Domestication. While I'm no John McCain, I have noticed a pattern of old man-itis creeping in. Take Sunday For Example : A Friend Offered To Get Me In Free To An Outdoor R.E.M Concert At The Greek Theater in Berkeley... with free beers included. I opted out to go grocery shopping &amp; buy potting soil at the local garden center. I just imagined it wouldn't be as intimateas the time I wasin aposse that woke Mike Mills up at his house in Athens and had his wife make homemade bloody marys, Or having drinks with Peter Buck or Scott McCaughey at bars in SF. Maybe my reluctance was due to earlier readinga snarky review of the previous day's show that said the crowd was 80's retro refugees worshipping Stipe who looks like a cancer patient, (but when he takes his hat off, it looks like it's in remission). Being an oldman, who bought the Radio Free Europe 7" single becauseof a review in Trouser Press before I'd ever heard it,I would be wise to stay away... I suppose'd I'd take the band's advice and stay home becuase living well really is the best revenge. Here's a mash up... Akon vs R.E.M -Smack That Religion On Saturday: I was invited to a warehouse party at the same location where I had a great, pleasantly debauched timeon the last visit I made. Plus on this paricular occasion, my pal's band was playing their last show, and I had no good reason not to attend. Instead, I went out for a dinner at a quiet Mediterranean-Turkish joint in Alameda and drank vino, afterwards I watched a Chritian Slater movie from Netflix. A week or so before I was at a big outdoor rock festival thang with backstage access and I hung out with kids instead of Hollywood hoohahs and left at dusk before the last beers were finished in the hospitality tent... Last Week: I flaked on attending a bowling party with some hot chicas including the band Ladytron who were celebrating their new album Velocifero... All these remastered reissues have the original &amp; new liner notes from the now 85 year old producer Orrin Keepnews, the man behind the legendary Riverside &amp; Milestone labels... COLEMAN HAWKINS: The Hawk Flies High (1957), Orrin's commentary (from his new liner notes): "Before [Coleman] Hawkins, the tenor saxophone-which has come to be one of the basic instruments of jazz-simply did not exist, a fact that would be disputed by neither Lester Young nor Ben Webster-his most prominent immediate successors-nor by Sonny Rollins or John Coltrane or anyone you might choose to put near the head of the line thereafter. This was not my only studio experience with Hawkins, although it was the only opportunity to deal with him strictly on his own terms, which is certainly the only appropriate way to approach a great artist." SONNY ROLLINS: Freedom Suite (1958), Orrin's commentary (from his original liner notes): "Because Sonny Rollins is as passionate, talented, multifaceted and variable as this album (and many others over his many years of activity) wou</itunes:summary><itunes:keywords>mp3,San,Francisco,Lil,Mike,left,coast</itunes:keywords><description>While I Sit here waiting for Fed Ex to deliver a much needed package wth a key component to restoring my laptops operating system I use a different box keyboard whose spacebar issticking. Baby Washington's "Handful of Memories" Most people I know have never heard of R&amp;B Hall of Fame member Baby Washington, ( aka Justine Washington) which is kind of a shame really. Baby was a great R&amp;B soul singer of the 50's &amp; 60's, but one who never really cracked into the top 40. She started back in the Doo-Wopping days circa 1956 as a member of The Hearts, a vocal group outta Harlem, but didn't score a solo "hit" until 1959 with "the Time" on the Neptune label, a song she wrote. While 12 of her records hit the R&amp;B charts, none were big enough to build her a permanent position in the pop pantheon. Apparently Dusty Springfield named her as her fave vocalist, and Dusty made the charts with "Breakfast In Bed" (from the classic Dusty in Memphis album), which although written by southerners Eddie Hinton &amp; Donnie Fritts, was originally considered one of Baby's tunes, released first on Cotillion. She placed a few in the lower echelons of the hit parade, her biggest being the ballad "That's How Heartaches Are Made" which barely hit #40 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1963. By then she was recording for Sue Records, who released a few more attempts, but as musical tastes changed, Baby faded into obscurity. She attempted a comeback in the early 70's, but disco delivered a definitive death knell to the classic soul sounds of the 60's. I'm pleased to report, Baby has been getting a late career renaissance, apparently is still performing on the east coast, and I for one would love a chance to see her sing... I originally got hipped to her via the WFMU blog awhile back, and when I stumbled across an out of print "Best Of" LP, I went for it... In fact I went back for it...because I had cold feet the first time I saw it... When I stumbled out the store clutching the 12x12 cover everyone asked me what it was, then shrugged their shoulders... Anyhow, here's a hard to find track for yer perusal Baby Washington - "Handfull of Memories" Here's a Baby Washington track that was out of print for decades before resurfacing on the excellent Atlantic Soul Sisters Unearthed compilation put out by Rhino a couple years back... Baby Washington - What Becomes Of The Brokenhearted Let's end the Baby fest with this one, that track WFMU's Brian Turner posted in Sept 2005 from her UK import I've got A Feeling Collection that got me psyched for her voice in da first place... Baby Washington - Think About The Good Times psst... hey ? y'all still here? Speaking of reliving some good times &amp; memories... With good intentions paving the way to bar hopping hell, a friend and I headed out and intended to catch New Orleans' mighty Rebirth Brass Band this weekend, but little did we know both nights were sold out.... Go figger... I mean that's cool and all, but I had no idea the kids were so hip to them these days... Who knew the generation raised on robotic raver beats, Mariah Carey moaning &amp;amp; retardo rock like Daughtry &amp;amp; Matchbox 20 might actually figger the Ol' New Orleans funky brass thing out... We had to stumble up and down into bars on the side streets of da Western Addition while a long line of Gen Y hipsters and what looked like jam bandabouts were boppin' out to da Rebirth inside The Independent. I first saw them about 17 years ago, when they were shipped out here for New Years Eve 1991...and since then, every few years either catch them here, or always make a point to drop by the Maple Leaf in Nawlins when in town... Here's some stuff for those of yaz... who might need a refresher course... Rebirth Brass Band - Do Whatcha Wanna In case you don't know, this next track is an old Ray Charles track, but updated with that Nawlins brass sound. Kermit Ruffins is a former member of the ReBirth Brass Band whose gone off on his own, but here they reunite on their joint album "Throwback" from Basin St Records... This morn in Oakland, they raided a few nests at dawn and netted 31 firearms, and snagged a few suspects in some armed takeover robberies that plagued the city earlier this spring. Meanwhile down in Miami after an extraordinary cooperation between the Cuban Gov't and the US, an american fugitive citizen was extradited for his child sex exploits. Sadly i know the latter subject of Operation Predator... a 61 year old Republican blowhard, fat millionaire, mortgage/financial industry player... He was into taking trips down to Costa Rica and messing with some poor girl starting when she was 12... Henry Burr - Don't Cry Little Girl Don't Cry Costa Rica offered this guy it's bounty, including sun, golf, beaches, casinos, horseback riding and of course... a little girl, purchased more or less easily by paying off her family with a house. Feds have him on counts of engaging in illicit sexual conduct in foreign places, travel with intent to engage in illicit sexual conduct, production of child pornography and possession of child pornography. Add fleeing the US on the eve of arraignment to the list of his crimes... The Ventures - The Fugitive When I first heard about it I was shocked and sickened... but this guy, a former professor at UC Berkeley's Hass School of Business always believed his own bullshit, so I am no longer stunned. The worst part was this guy had so much money, he thought he could do whatver he wanted, and was convinced he had the manifest destiny to take a a prepubescent girl's virginity, transport graphic photos of her genitalia, and continue to have his way ... She recently just turned 16, but the Feds say this guy has been going at her since she was 12... Mushroomhead - Exploiting Your Weakness Even while on the lam, he was sending emails to friends in the U.S boldly proclaiming his righteousness, said he was the victim of a US government conspiracy and misguided laws...and afterall, he was in love! Perry Como - Prisoner of Love He wanted his pedophiliac manifestos published in USA Today, and hoped his buddies tight with the GOP inner circles and McCain campaign would get him out of trouble... Perhaps he's going for the insanity plea, because he sounds like a guy who's certainly out of touch with reality... Hall and Oates - Out of Touch Just to prove his party loyalty, right after NY Gov. Elliot Spitzer was caught paying for an adult hooker, he sent me a note saying " in the words of Michael Savage, who thought the democrats could Shtuup this low" Meanwhile, he's getting all indignant about Spitzer, and it was already 9 quiet months since his own home was raided by the Feds who seized his illicit personal photo collection. He still has time to slag Spitzer, yet here is a fellow jew in the even dirtier deep doo doo process of actually making arrangements to flee the country... and skip out on his debts, business associates, family and prosecution. Unrepentant to the end... thats Chutzpah! For footnotes and frames of reference, consider this: Here's something this guy emailed me in '06 when he was railing about the decision by the Bush admin to deny habeas corpus to their Gunatanomo detainees... now let's consider this a concept so abhorrent to the constituition, that even the same Supreme Court who put Bush &amp;amp; crew in office has rejected the Bush b.s ... So in an email exchange to him, I mentioned that... "I work at an institution where they teach the rule of law, a law that has often been the only common thread that holds order together...and separates us from animals, and thugs... The laws we abide by, because hopefully we are striving to be a society that knows the meaning of justice, and values honesty, the concept of basic rights and human decency... "I think it's odd that you would support the idea that there should be no redress for an individual before a court...and that your ideological pals like Rehnquist &amp;amp; </itunes:summary><itunes:keywords>mp3,San,Francisco,Lil,Mike,left,coast</itunes:keywords><description>I offer reluctant kudos to law enforcement for actually getting a couple things done lately...

I had to go get a beer at some brewpub ( seen here in this LA Weekly pic )because the town neglected to offer any refreshments alcoholic or otherwise within sight of the stages I visited... The one or two "bars" I passed were actually closed on a Saturday afternoon... I ended up in a swimming pool north of town in short order, headliners be damned... Hours later I was back up north here in San Francisco, where it was downright cold...which was nice... But the next day I was up bright and early dealing with the logistics of helping set up a hippie rock concert featuring Janis Joplin's old backing band... Big Brother &amp;amp; The Holding Company Janis was a no show... go figger (but some chick named Cathy Richardson did an admirable job) Santana did show up, or I should say a Santana, it was just the son of Carlos... Salvador Santana... This coming week here in SF, with all the hippies safely tucked back into their hacky sacks, I suppose I will look forward to seeing the release of the new album from The Parker Brothers... Bo Diddley - Rock n Roll Bo was indeed the man, and he'd be the first to let ya know... Bo Diddley - I'm Bad Bo Diddley - Do What I Say Bo was never shy about telling his own legend, or later on about who'd ripped him off over the years...or stolen his beats and licks. In fact I have an eighties drum machine track where he proclaims himself the founder of Hip Hop. There is no doubt about what he meant to rock n roll... and so many of his songs are classics, even if y'all are only familiar with a few, better believe it's all true... Bo Diddley - Roadrunner (Live) Bo Diddley - Crackin'Up Unfortunately for y'all I'm in the bitter mode of battling a fkdup keyboard with broken spacebar, and Bill Gates' diabolical destructive to data Windows system and I can't access a lot of my music currently. We'll just get into some serious grooves, or not so serious but they will definitely have some sort of grooves... Maybe not danceable ones, but at least ol' school vinyl ones... I've been messing with my USB enabled turntable lately So how about some vinyl rips for the Tired of Hump Day Jukebox of RBig BeBop mix Let's delve into the back catalog of the underrated Canadian rawk band The Payola$ I can't say I was ever a big fan, but this track has always got me singing along. It's from fairly early in their career, when they were still slugging it out in Vancouver pubs alongside D.O.A, Thor, and the Subhumans. The Payolas managed to get signed to Miles Copeland's I.R.S label though, wanted to be rock stars, and left the indie scene behind... This lyrics, delivered in a punky OI! style, decry the tightly controlled radio formats that also kept them from really reaching their goals, at least stateside. It was featured on the I.R.S Greatest Hits Vols. 2 &amp; 3 dbl LP in 1981, and that's were this rip was sourced. Unfortunately, later efforts from the band were less rambunctious, less satisfying to me, and were characterized by frontman Paul Hyde’s moody vocals, as the group toned down their approach to a more AOR sound, and moved over to mothership label A&amp;M. This is their finest moment as far as I'm concerned: The PAYOLA$ - Jukebox They eventually had a few hits in Canada, where those friendly local "content laws" no doubt helped them. They weren't so lucky stateside, where their name was so taboo, most corporate rock stations wouldn't even utter it. It's rumored that 60's payola scandal poster boy Dick Clark refused to let the Payolas appear on American Bandstand unless they changed their name. The quintet soldiered on and recorded 1981’s "In a Place Like This" (produced by guitarist Bob Rock), which was a critical success, but a commercial flop in the US. It included a remake of “Jukebox” — and yet another remake of an early single called “China Boys” — as well as more proletarian laments like the title track and “Whiskey Boy”. In 1983, they won several Canadian Juno awards for the album ‘No Stranger To Danger’ which was produced by Mick Ronson. The LP featured the track “Eyes Of a Stranger” one of their best known songs, having also appeared in the US teen film Valley Girl featuring Nicolas Cage. If anyone wants to relive that cut, lemme know and it may show up in a week or so... The Payloas eventually split in 1986 and Hyde and guitarist Bob Rock released an album on Capitol Records entitled “Under the Volcano” as Rock &amp; Hyde, they toured, and had three more minor Canadian hit singles before they ended up going their separate ways. Hyde went solo, while Winnipeg born Guitarist Bob Rock actually did achieve that multi-platinum success. It wasn't with his own tunes though, Rock went on to produce Metallica’s best selling albums and several other big records by name brand bands including David Lee Roth, Mötley Crüe, Aerosmith, The Cranberries, American Hi-Fi, Bryan Adams, Tal Bachman, Bon Jovi, and The Cult. Rock also briefly played bass with Metallica for a period while they looked for a replacement for Jason Newsted. I understand, that after a long hiatus, in July 2007, the Payolas reunited &amp; released a seven-song EP, ‘Langford Part One’. Go Figger... Speaking of fairly big success stories, here's another track from that I.R.S Greatest Hits Vol 2 &amp; 3 compilation I mentioned above. This is a group y'all have definitely heard of, and whose stadium reunion tour was the fastest selling show of summer 2007. They are on the road again this year with a guy named Elvis Costello opening... Here's something the trio did back in 1978, before Andy Summers even had taken up the guitar slot. The Police - Fallout I gotta say this obscure fast paced ditty featuring Henry Padovani on 6 string is also one of my faves by the group...their later material</itunes:summary><itunes:keywords>mp3,San,Francisco,Lil,Mike,left,coast</itunes:keywords><description>Got a lotta stuff going on, and I'm leaving town again tomorrow

It's her second July 4th weekend appearance their since her first in 2006... Here's a couple pics i took last time she was in the neighborhood... how about Joan's bubblegum rock relic manager Kenny Laguna? Kenny produced back in the day for Tony Orlando, Darlene Love, Bill Medley of the Righteous Bros. as well as The Lemon Pipers, and Ohio Express. By the mid 70's and stabs at the charts with David Essex and Edwin Starr his only real production success was a Dr. Demento show novelty hit by Little Roger &amp;amp; The Goosebumps called "Stairway To Gilligan's Island", that predates the popular mash up concept by about 25 years... By the late 70's, with those bubblegum daze behind him, Laguna worked with Beserkely Records, producing Greg Kihn and Jonathan Richman. Around this time he found a former Kim Fowley protege named Joan Jett , who was leaving the dysfunctional mess of The Runaways and the shadows of blonde lead vocalist Cherie Currie to start her own band. After the Runaway ran from Kim Fowley, and hitched onto Laguna's sage advice train, Joan's career really took off in earnest. With Lita Ford a retired housewife, she's the last Runaway standing... At nearly 50, she has more onstage energy than slew of performers half her age, and has a legacy of hits and near misses that make her a true queen of the scene. Whether playing for the troops at USO shows overseas, a Warped Tour crowd in Phoenix , a Biker Convention in Sturgis, or a Gay Parade gathering in San Jose, Joan has a huge and diverse audience. Few performers have as wide a demographic pull at the boxoffice... Her family friendly fair crowd will have fist pumping punks alongside patriotic bikers, service men &amp;amp; women, lesbian Moms, old rockers, construction workers, nerds, hipsters and grandmas and every conceivable combination thereof. Earlier this spring Joan Jett and The Blackhearts added her latest Blackheart Records album Sinner, as well as her classics Bad Reputation &amp;amp; I Love Rock n Roll to the eMusic download queue. It's nice to be able to legally shop for Joan Jett tunes online... Like Joan Jett getting down with Eddie Cochran's Summertime Blues... a track from her Bad Reputation album... This was one recorded at the old Media Sound studios in New York circa 1981 at the request of late Casablanca prez Neil Bogart...Joan Jett - Joan Jett &amp;amp; The Blackhearts - Summertime Blues But aside from the easily found stuff, I'm also just as much, if not more, into her rarities... For example Here's a fierce one from an out of print Joan Jett &amp;amp; The Blackhearts 7" single from a decade ago... Joan Jett &amp;amp; The Blackhearts - Hostility This one was featured on the soundtrack to Tank Girl circa 1997... Joan Jett &amp;amp; Paul Westerberg - Let's Do It And here's one some thang you aren't likely to run across unless you have as bloated and outdated CD collection as I do... In 1993, with Charles Koppelman still flush with music industry cash and running his SBK label, they somehow thought enticing David Letterman's sidekick Paul Shaffer into the studio was a wise move. Supposedly ol' Paul was ripe for a double CD set... of badly thought out cocktail lounge covers. What was worse, was that this damnable double disc was chock full of cameo's from some actually relevant music industry mavens who should've known better. I hope people were at least paid for embarrassing themselves like this... it's like a kid's record for clueless adults. It was called "The World's Most Dangerous Party" and would no doubt be dangerous to almost any event you played this turgid turd through the speakers at. Somehow, our fave rock n roll lovin' gal Joan Jett showed up in the credits alongside names like producer Todd Rundgren, and guests like Aaron Neville, Leonard Cohen, Bootsy Collins, and even Phil Spector. Why Joan ended up being buried in the mix on a tepid lounge rock version of "Don't Bring Me Down" on disc 2, and wasn't paired w</itunes:summary><itunes:keywords>mp3,San,Francisco,Lil,Mike,left,coast</itunes:keywords><description>Joan Jett is returning to the Marin County Fair tonight...

It's been awhile since I blathered here and in the meantime you might have noticed things are getting mighty weird on Wall Street. Sorry, it wasn't my fault... I assure ya... I'm talking about messy Wall Street credit crunch... So supposedly it's a huge crisis, that affects us all ...but as I write no one is working on it today in DC because some 2% sliver of the US population is celebrating a" high" holiday... go figger... Isn't it the middle of the week, a busy week, with shit to do? Those "chosen" people running the show for $hizzle fo y'all, like Barney Frank and Beird-o Benjamin Bernanke just can't be bothered anymore this week I guess ... Gots to talk to god, and get some kreplach for Christ $akes! But those banking buddies sure wouldn't mind if you'd send them your money... Neither would I... I mean feel free to send me some extra money as well... I won't threaten ya...like those Wall St Wizards... Their pleas are like a blackmail / ransom note from the Street elite... They demand America prop up their consumer con game, or they will cause an unspecified wave of additional terror to rip through our little out of the loop lives. Maybe steal your house with their house of cards... Nice! They act like ca$h junkies, and just one more fix will steer them $traight... then they'll go to rehab. Then it will all trickle down to you too! Yay! But no matter how much money they shoot up, it will never be enough... and we know it. First this year they swallowed up a $29 billion chunk of gov't backed credit for their pals at Bear Stearns. We also picked up the tab for AIG... lent the failed insurer about $85 billion a few weeks ago... Also earlier in Sept they convinced their buddies at the Tresury to throw another $200 Million or so under the off kilter bus wheels of Freddie Mac &amp;amp; Fannie Mae... which had basically been allowed to die slowly. Henry Paulson Jr could've paid that bill out of his pocket practically...but he and his blood thirsty pals waited until it drove a ton of other little banks underwith them.... Banks that had held Fannie &amp;amp; Freddie stocks, and had been allowed to keep them on the books as if they were cash. The Gov't knew that many small community banks and investors were exposed to this "gov't backed" risk, yet allowed Fannie and Freddie to delve deeper &amp;amp; deeper into subprime lending. Bush had created a mandate for an "ownership society" even if the loans were obviously unsupportable. They all lookerd the other way until it was too late and it all toppled. Then when it wiped out the holdings of these smaller community lending institutions, then we stepped in. It was exactly like Prez Bush described it the other day "A House Of Cards". Except they were playing these cards for all they worth...with our money. Nice! Buster Brown - Fannie Mae Our regulators, who've been doing very little regulating prior to this point in the mess are now seizing banks, and handing them over for pennies on the dollar to their pals... Big players like JP Morgan and B of A, along with Citigroup, are gorging during the bloody melee... eating wounded rivals like sharks let loose in a koi pond. Citigroup, for ex. is flush with billions in United Arab Emirates sponsored cash it received last year when it was teetering, is spending approx $2 billion of that reserve to acquire a retail banking empire, holding some $400 Billion in consumer deposits held by Wachovia. Not a bad deal for Citi, and one that was basically gifted to them by Gov't regulators and officials from the so-called Federal Reserve, which despite the name Federal in the title, by the way is not really a Gov't Agency... they just have mysterious unelected power over all the funny money stuff, go figger. Nice! Citigroup pressured regulators to seize Wachovia... chomping off only the parts they wanted. Kinda like using the Gov't power of eminent domain so they can get a better biz deal.  Ironic considering a few years ago, the Federal Reserve had banned Citi</itunes:summary><itunes:keywords>mp3,San,Francisco,Lil,Mike,left,coast</itunes:keywords><description>Yeah ...

Apparently he's a registered GOP voter who won't pay his taxes whose real name is actually Sam... He blames America for destroying his American Dream... He is a bald beefy white guy in Ohio...his name is actually Samuel J Wurzelbacher, and I'm guessing that means he doesn't likely hang out with many elite black guys, or any Harvard law school graduates... or even union plumbers in his hometown who say he isn't one of them. But Joe/Sam likes attention And he also wants to be rich, and somehow thinks Obama's hypothetical tax plan is the one thing stopping him... it's just sad. Joe thinks if he has to pay 3% more in taxes on a small potential percentage of his income that's actually apt to go over $250,000 a year... well it's gonna break his white balls... The very thought of it is destroying his American Dream!! He actually said so to that blowhard Cavuto on Fox!! Now he plans to blow off his "buddy" McCain at an Ohio rally to appear on some Sunday TV chat shows. WHO IS 'JOE THE PLUMBER'? John McCain made Joe the centerpiece of the debate last night... It all started when earlier this week, Wurzelbacher got on camera at an Obama rally in Toledo. Joe told the uppity candidate that he felt Obama's tax plan was gonna keep him down, that if he started making over $250 G's a year and Obama kicked up his taxes on dough above $250 G a few percentage points... life wouldn't be worth living anymore. It's enough to make a big bad bald white guy whine like a little girl... It makes me ask... Why is Obama trying to keep the hard working white man down? I mean really... Poor old Joe The Plumber, if Obama wins, his joy of buying the plumbing business would evaporate like piss in the plumbers ass crack wind. Joe normally would pay the 36% tax rate, if he paid his taxes, which would remain in effect, if he paid his taxes, but in the hypothetical event Joe makes more than $250 G he would hypothetically pay a new rate, but only on any amount above the $250k. So if he made $290 hypothetical G's, he'd pay 3% more on the $40 grand he made above the $250 taxed at the base rate... Note: that's way less than Joe would pay in Europe or Canada as a matter of a fact... But the point is... that's life...millions of us do it... except ol ' Joe/Sam who feels he's above that... Boo F-Ing White Man Hoo, Needs to Buy a HD Tv or something.. and that $300 extra dollars is killing him. What is Joe's deal, is he the new Wesley Snipes? Maybe it's because Joe The Plumber hates the US government, or maybe he doesn't support the war, or our Wall St bailout... but assuming he makes another $40,000 a year over $250 at his old rate... So his total burden would maybe be about $1200 new bucks in taxes over his old rate, as opposed to a more nominal $900... uh... big f-n whoop... get over it... It's like $300 dollars!!!!!! whatever Joe's hatred of paying his fair share ... I could give a shit I just assume Joe The Plumber hates America... or at least it's various uh, "tax brackets". Former Fat Boys I Ain't Gonna Pay My Taxes Psycho Realm - Tax Evaders He feels he should get to keep paying his old tax rate... despite his pal George Bush running up the biggest deficit ever... good for both of them and John McCain too... I hope Joe The Plumber is pissed off... I hope he cries in his corn flakes every morning that he was born in America Maybe Joe can join with Bill Ayres and bomb bomb bomb the Pentagon... I'm glad he's offended at the thought of paying into the big fed pool... God forbid a small 3% percentage upgrade on his amount above $250 G than he already is supposed to pay gets into Obama's dirty hands... Joe The Plumber Wurzelbacher (pronounced whur-zell-BAHK-er) told USA Today that hearing his tale during the debate was "It's pretty surreal, man, my name being mentioned in a presidential campaign," As for McCain, according to Joe "He's got it right as far as I go." Fuck them... they're both losers I gott say at this point I agree with McCain's ous</itunes:summary><itunes:keywords>mp3,San,Francisco,Lil,Mike,left,coast</itunes:keywords><description>Who is Joe The Plumber ?

I know the type of "Rural White Male Voter" that the Republicans &amp; Democrats are trying to woo... I suppose it could be subtitled "Iraq War Contractor's Beltway Blues"... but does lay out a sinister tale of modern malfeasance quite well... more atune to the Virgina that I know better... the unreal one in Fairfax County, or the hallowed halls of Falls Church. Tom Heyman - Selling Sand Consider this musical donation a an appetizer while we await Heyman's followup to his Deliver Me album, one that came out on the tiny imprint run by Nick Tangborn... Here's a couple tracks from that excellent, if somewhat overlooked release from 2006. I Know I Haven't In A While... Been Busy , But I am definitely too blessed to stay stressed... My favorite crap activity last week was probably watching the actual collapse of the Attorney General in front of his admirers... yeah I got a jolt of sick pleasure from it... sort of like how Rummy and pals must have felt while watching their closed circuit satellite camera feed of the Abu Ghraib prison pyramids... It was a remarkable media moment, one not gloated over or enjoyed enough... too quickly overlooked by the media... Mukasey apparently can't even believe his own b.s and hopefully you saw it when he passed out mid-sentence, the other night... It was in the middle of a speech to a bunch of lawyer creeps called "The Federalist Society", It's a cabal of "conservative" legal minions bent on dismantling your legal rights that Dick Cheney refers to as "a model of thoughtful, reasoned dialogue" ... Which really means: "hungry sadistic wolf sharks with no morals" These are the master minds of mayhem who helped out Gonzales with his torture memos, and don't believe in the burdens of habeas corpus, or antitrust laws, laws protecting consumers or the environment, the civil rights act, meaningful worker health and safety regulations, and the likes... During the speech they were getting liquored up and gnashing their teeth into some red meat while Mukasey blithered on. It was rote exercise in typical talking points, in which he was insisting that the DOJ under the Bush admin's run acted lawfully and "professionally"... Soon, Mukasey smelled his own bull shit... ...and then, with the putrid stink from his lying breath driving his conscience mad, the conscience decided the only honorable thing to do would be to lose consciousness... Mukasey has reasons to be revolted by his own role in so many of the most egregious examples of the Bush DOJ's disregard for things like Habeas Corpus, and the rule of law. Mukasey has endorsed numerous unconstitutional acts and in 2005 even had complaints from dozens of his court appointed bodyguards who said Mukasey made them do his personal errands like "carry groceries, luggage and golf clubs". What a fucking asshole anyhow here's a random "thanx for giving me what I didn't want" mix... I know there were plenty days that the Ikettes weren't thankful for...but that doesn't mean I'm not thankful for their sweet sounds... The Ikettes - I'm So Thankful How about wise old Ray Davies, he's probably thankful that when Chrissy Hynde used to kick his ass around the house, and when those muggers shot him a few years ago in New Orleans that he lived both times... Ray Davies - Thanksgiving Day and who can help but appreciate Sam &amp;amp; Dave Sam &amp;amp; Dave - Thank You This next song has the same name, but the track just ain't as good as the one above IMHO... but I am still thankful for the Cougar... he's still an American wise ass after all these years... and now with his teenage kid playing guitar at some shows for golly sakes... John Cougar Mellencamp - Thank You here's a release worth being thankful for... if a bit hard to track down thanks to yer pals at the RIAA... In case ya missed it Cassettes Won't Listen mashed up some pre-leaked G'n'R tracks from Chinese Democracy and added in some Ludacris vocals... inane but what isn't these daze... here's the first track Ludacris Democracy - Move Bitch This one is even dumber , or at least funnier, and comes up when you search Amazon for a link to buy Chinese Democracy...No Guns Just Rose Anyhow... I gotta get on the road, headed south through the central valley and onto Los Angeles... here's a few more for the road... So Looks like the price of gas went down a few bucks since I was last talking at ya hereI'm sure ex- San Francisco Cab driver Jim Campilongo is thanful for that. You can hear Jim on this track tearing it up with Rochester NY's faith funkatee</itunes:summary><itunes:keywords>mp3,San,Francisco,Lil,Mike,left,coast</itunes:keywords><description>SSome Days It's Tough To Remember All The Things We Have To Be Thankful For

That's Steve Priest of Sweet, the bassist of the glammiest of all the early 70's glam groups... A band I truly never tire of hearing.... Although the prospect of watching them this weekend has me a little worried. But since I missed the early daze, I'm gonna have to catch the revamped version about 30 years past their last chart hit... The original lead singer is dead, and only one original member is in this version, but I will be rocking out to 'em no matter what... They'll be playing the Santa Cruz Boardwalk on Friday, and I've already got my room booked... In San Francisco tens of thousands will convene in Golden Gate Park for some $90 a head corporate rock festival thang...and I am splitting to see a band that is long forgotten by most... Although, they don't look like the old Sweet...they sound close enough I know because I checked out some live recordings from the recent tour... and it will have to do I suppose... Go ahead, hear for yerself...from an audience recording this spring in Pennsylvania Steve Priest'sSweet (live 2009) - Fox On The Run Compare that to a couple live recordings done in Berlin in 1976 Sweet (live 1976) - Set Me Free this live one especially cracks me up... Sweet (live 1976) - (If We Don't F*ck You) Someone Else Will/Blockbuster and here, just for good measure, one more rockin' classic that in't on the current setlist, but is an olde personal fave and advocates the nocturnal lifestyle I myself favor...
