Cute Halloween hairstyles

Many of you were asking me to suggest some cute Halloween hairstyles, so here's my selection of tutorials that you could use to style your hair as a goddess, fairy, angel, nymph, princess, ...

Let's start from updos that work great on medium long hair.

The following greek goddess look is quite easy to achieve with my twist-and-pull technique and it's perfect for curly hair.

For the next hairstyle you're going to need a hairband and just a couple of minutes of your time if your hair is already wavy or curly. For the best result, you want your hairband to be rather loose than tight, I got mine in H&M.

To create the following look, you simply need to twist your hair all around your head adding some hair to your twist as you go. It may seem a bit complicated at first, but once you get a hold of it, it's really easy, trust me :) If you think your hair is too long or too thick for this look, you can put it into a side ponytail or a side rope braid instead of twisting it all around your head.

For the following somewhat medieval look you have to firstly form two braids and them flip them out and secure in place creating an elegant and unique low bun.

The gorgeous hairstyle inspired by Heidi Klum won't take much time if your hair is already wavy or curly.

I must admit that the next hairstyle is rather challenging to do on your own hair as you can't really see what you're doing at the back of your head and your hands get tired after a while. Luckily, it's easy to do on someone else's hair, so with some help from a friend, sister or mother it can be done in several minutes of regular dutch lace braiding :)

The following hairstyles work equally well on medium and long hair.

A classic waterfall braid has all to takes to add some magic to your hair :)

To adapt the following look to shorter hair, skip the side braid and put your hair into a small side ponytail or a bun. A flower accessory over or around it is all you need to complete this look.

And here is a selection of hairstyles for those of you with longer hair.

A very unique multilevel side swept waterfall braid.

A simplified version of the braid above where you need to create a multilevel dutch braid instead of a waterfall braid.

Of all romantic looks, the following one is probably the easiest ever.
I left my hair straight, but this hairstyle will look equally great on wavy or curly hair.

An easy yet very feminine half up hairstyle with braids and teased crown.

If you'd like to wear your hair down, you can dress it up with a knotted decoration on one or both sides of your head.

For the following look, you firstly need to twist your hair on both sides and then merge it together into a fishtail braid. If you find it difficult to fishtail braid your hair at the back, you can always replace the braid with a regular ponytail and then curl it for that extra "umph" :) A flower accessory will really complement your ponytail in this case.

For the braided hairstyles inspired by Kim Kardashian you're going to need a thin scarf ...or a cut of textile from a local store. That's what I got :)

All about my hair

In this post I'll try to answer all frequently asked questions about my hair type, color, care and styling products. If I'll miss something, please let me know in comments below :)

My natural hair is on the oily side, it is totally straight and very thin. I guess this is what makes it soft, shiny and naturally frizz-free. I blow dry my hair only on special occasions when I want some extra volume at my roots and I'm very moderate in using high temperature tools too. On a casual daily basis I only go for overnight curling techniques that do not involve heat and I believe this really helps to preserve my hair healthy. At the moment my hair is shoulder length, so whenever you see it long and thick, I'm wearing Glam Time clip-in hair extensions.

I was born with dark blonde hair... I havn't seen it for ages but from I remember it is quite similar to the color on this photo

I've already tried most natural and unnatural hair colors one can imagine (blue and green are the only ones left behind), and till I started having my hair bleached to platinum blonde around a year ago, I never even had to use a hair conditioner, it would simply overload my hair. I would still apply it every once in a while just on my ends, just for the sake of it :)

Now that I have my hair bleached and toned every 5-6 weeks, everyone asks me how do I keep it in such a good condition despite all the strong chemicals and stuff. I have two answers to that.

One, a good colorist. My colorist is a GOD :) Once I tried to bleach my hair myself and it was a total disaster... then I've also modeled for different hairdressers and they too abused my hair to the point I decided I won't model for colorists ever again! When they'd try to do my roots, they would always fail to match them with the color of my remaing hair - my roots would either end up brassy yellow or greyish white. I don't know what is worse... yellow looks cheap, while white is oh-so-damaging for my poor hair! And when they'd try to tone my hair down, they'd make it look all dull and lifeless. Apparently matte (=dull) hair is a big hair trend these days that they were showing off on my hair, but it's so far from what I consider beautiful...

That's when I went on a quest for THE colorist I was willing to pay and actually get what I want. After a couple of not that pleasant and quite a rip off experiences, I finally met HIM :) So here is the secret. He bleaches my hair with L'Oreal 30% Blondys and leaves it on my hair for 50 mins. This purple liquid works magic compared to white powder bleach either from L'Oreal or Wella that was used on my hair before and never fully met my expectations. Most hairdressers would probably disagree with this recipe and try to use 40% bleach (they'd say my hair's way too dark and that 30% bleach won't work well on it) but that's when I know I have to insist!

Once my hair is bleached, I have it toned with L'Oreal toners. Every month I seem to try a different shade mixing and testing toners P0, P01 and P02. Once I find my perfect shade, I'll let you know :)

Two, my hair type. As I mentioned before, my hair is naturally quite oily. Bleaching does dry it out a little bit, but to the point where I actually like it :) It does change the texture of my hair making it more rough, but this is the texture that I prefer. This "damage" gives me some volume and makes styling way easier. I guess my hair type is just bleach-friendly :)

But I do feel a little bit guilty that I make my hair go through all that peroxide abuse... Somewhere very deep inside of me I know it must be "unhealthy" or something. So to make it up to my hair a little bit, I pamper it with deep conditioning treatments. It's rather preventive than curative, but in any case it seems to work very well for me (after a year of bleaching, I'm very happy with the quality of my hair). So every time I wash my hair I use one of the following products:

1. L'Oreal hair conditioner that comes with Récital Préférence hair dye. It's my mom who buys it, she doesn't need a conditioner, so she gives it to me. I madly love this product for the comfort of use and for the results it has on my hair. I wish it was possible to buy it separately from the hair dye, but unfortunately L'Oreal doesn't seem to hear my prayers. They have other products that I use (the two listed below are quite good), but still not as good as this one.

2. L'Oreal Force Vector hair mask.

3. L'Oreal Absolute Repair hair mask.

4. L'Oreal Shine Blonde hair conditioner. This one comes in purple color and it does work really well on my hair removing eventual brassiness and giving my hair a delicate perl shade.

5. John Frieda Sheer Blonde conditioner for lighest blondes. I don't see how it affects my color, but I quite like the texture of this product.

6. L'Oreal Fiberceutic. This one deserves special introduction. Not only it conditions, but also it texturizes my hair in a semi-permanent manner. I can pretty much skip my styling products when I use this Fiberceutic thing. I got a version for thin hair in a local store with professional supplies for hair salons. It's quite pricey, every application is ~3€, but you don't have to use it every time you wash your hair. This product is now heavily advertised as a "botox for your hair", in salons they charge ~20€ for it and even though I wouldn't ask for it in a salon (overpriced!) I'm very happy about what it does for ~3€ :)

I started from hair conditioners and not from shampoos because I can never notice any particular effect of a shampoo on my hair. I simply choose any that foams well and these days it's John Frieda Sheer Blonde that I use to wash my hair every 3 days or so.

If I plan to style my hair and want to make it easy, I texturize my hair with one of the following products. For people with soft and silky smooth hair like mine, they are life savers :)

1. Wella SP Volumagic. This product is my No.1 Must-Have. I apply it on towel-dried hair and then blow dry my hair with my head upside down. This gives an incredible lift to my roots and a perfect texture for styling. I just love how it gives the feeling of volume and thickness without overloading my hair.

2. Schwarzkopf Professional BC Bonacure Volume Boost Volume Lotion. I use it just like Wella SP Volumagic and it also gives fantastic results.

When it comes to hairsprays, I find it very important to use rather light and flexible ones that look natural (invisible), do not glue my hair together and are easy to brush out. These are my favorite ones:

1. Schwarzkopf Got2B Happy hour.

2. L'Oreal Infinium Queen.
