Okay, so I'm behind AND cheating, but life is too busy to play by the rules all of the time :)

The theme for Feb 15 was "phone", and it was "something new" for the 16th. Since my husband bought me a new case for my phone for Valentines Day, I think I can kill 2birds with one stone here. Yippee for efficiency!!!

New photo project!!

I saw this project from a great photographer friend of mine (who just so happened to also be my next door neighbor our freshman year of college :) and it got me motivated again.

It's so hard keeping up with everything right now, and sadly, the photography has taken a back seat, as well as this blog. But this challenge got me excited again so I'm going to TRY to post to this daily through the month of February.

Fat Mum Slim has started a February photo challenge. I haven't actually looked, but I'm pretty sure this isn't the first one she's done, it's just the first that I've seen. Anyway, there's a list of things to photograph every day of the month, and someone that's as distracted as I am can use all the help I can get. Here's the list:

I'm excited about this one! This is easy, straightforward, and I'm guessing that most of mine will be taken with my iPhone...so no pressure there :)

Ok, here's Day 1. My view of yesterday (when I took this) was of my view from my backyard porch. It was such an absolutely lovely, warm day:

Halloween Selfy-Sunday

We had another "Selfy-Sunday" on Google + yesterday, this time with a Halloween them. I have to say that some of the photos are INCREDIBLE! If you ever have some time, please go and check out the fantastically creative submissions over there.

Here was my submission for the project this week. I had a lot of different ideas, but when all of them failed, I went for humor. The only thing missing was my broomstick :) And yes, I WILL be wearing this costume tonight for trick-or-treating!

October Extravaganza at Trader's Point Creamery

The weather has been absolutely fabulous this past week, so I was so excited that it was finally the weekend. Sadly, Joacim had to work.....all day, so he wasn't able to enjoy the fun day that Izzy and I had together. There was no way we were going to stay at home and miss out on this gorgeous day, so we got ourselves together and went up to Trader's Point Creamery for their October Extravaganza.

We started out by picking out our pumpkins

And then we decorated them

Then we had to get a tattoo (I have a matching one on my arm too :)

And some face painting (of which I did not participate ;)

And then off to visit the adorable calves

And then for some ice cream

It was so lovely there, but it was also very warm, so Izzy and I decided it was time to leave. And I decided to drive through Eagle Creek park on the way home, because the trees were so colorful.

Of course, no trip to a park is complete without a trip to the playground.

This was SUCH a perfect day. I'm thinking that we're going to head back to the park tomorrow, but this time take Joacim, Murphy and Rosie with us.

Selfy-Sunday

Over at Google+, a couple of photographers had the idea of having people post self-portraits, and they call it "Selfy-Sunday". This was my first time taking part in it, and I went really safe, but I hope to have some fun experimenting with this. There are no rules....no themes. But to see how amazing and creative some people can be...well, it just blew me away. Here's my selfy.

Finally getting to work through all of the vacation photos I took! There were over a 1000, so it's going to take some time, but I've got a few that I wanted to share with you!

Jellyfish terrify me...it's one of the reasons that I'm not much of an ocean person. But when they're behind glass..heck, they're AWESOME!!! These were taken at the Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta. If you've never been there, I HIGHLY encourage you to go. It's one of the very best aquariums that I've ever been to.

We went to Atlanta specifically to go to this aquarium, and it was totally worth it. To see a whale shark...wow..just wow.

We just returned home this past weekend from a wonderful vacation. I've got so many photos to share that it will be hard to narrow it down, but I wanted to show off a few that I love.

We were in Atlanta at the Georgia Aquarium (which is a FANTASTIC place, btw...pictures from there will coming soon). Anyway, after the aquarium, we headed over to Centennial Olympic park to look around. It's the site of the Olympics that were held in Atlanta in 1996. It was a ridiculously hot day, so after the walk we headed over to the Fountain of Rings to cool off a bit.

I snapped these while I was watching all of the kids play. I love how they look in b&w even better than in color :) Enjoy!

I've been one of the lucky ones lately.....I was one of the first wave of people to get Google+ invites. I've been on it for a month now, and I can honestly say that I LOVE it. It's certainly affected how much time I spend on Facebook and Twitter now, both personally and professionally, but the draw of Google+ for me is how amazingly supportive the community is over there. Regardless of their background, everyone I've been in contact with so far is supportive of sharing information.

And the community of photographers there....WOW is the best way to sum it up. I can post a photo on there, and invariable I'll get a comment on there, and not ONE of them has been negative. The whole photography community over there has really tried to put things in place for all photographers...those that just want to share pretty photos, those that want critique, those that want to learn and those that want to teach. It's just incredible, which is why I find myself getting sucked into it so easily lately. It feels good over there.

And over there, I try to post a photo a day. This just forces me to always be conscious of what I'm putting out there, and to keep my photography always moving forward. I haven't been doing too many photo shoots lately, and I miss them. But things in "real life" have gotten pretty interesting around here lately, and it's not leaving me as much time as I'd like to have to dedicate to it. Thankfully, we'll be going on vacation soon, and have time to shoot as much as I can in a place that I love.

An engagement : Indianapolis Engagement Photographer

Two weeks ago, my little cousin Derek (which is kind of ironic considering he's 6'4" now ;) asked his wonderful girlfriend, Amanda, to be his wife. I was honored that they asked me to take their engagement photos, but we had to work fast. Amanda recently graduated from Yale, and was leaving to spend the summer in Pennsylvania working at a camp for kids with developmental and learning disabilities. Yes, this girl is incredible!

I had only met Amanda one time before..with her being at school so far away it made it difficult, but I'm excited to get to know her. I actually met her the first time after I had taken photographs of Derek and his brother, Scott. Wow! Looking back, I see how much has changed. Scott is married now and has joined the service, and Derek is soon to follow in the marriage department :) I wish nothing but the most happiness for them both.

Derek contacted me on a Tuesday and we scheduled the session for the following Sunday. It was going to be a warm weekend, but we definitely wanted to be outside so we met at the Indiana State Museum. It's great that I picked that place because apparently it was there, at Derek's other cousin's wedding, where they two decided they were serious. So I'm glad we could incorporate that memory into the photos.

I tell you..these two CAN NOT take a bad photo. Seriously. No coaching or instructing was necessary...this was ALL natural.

Hee hee hee..my little girl LOVES her cousin Derek, and she wanted to sneak in and get herself in the photo too.

Congratulations, Derek and Amanda. Can't wait to see you two tie the knot!

Baby Ruben : Indianapolis Newborn Photographer

I have known Christina and Petrica since I moved to Indianapolis almost 7 years ago. They lived in the same apartment building as I did. We started talking one day, and found out that we had something in common. Both of our boyfriends were from other countries (Petrica is Romanian), and we had gone through or were going through the whole green card process.

And look at us now....happily married homeowners who are proud parents (and we both moved down the road from our old apartments when we bought our first homes).

It seems that I've started a little bit of a trend. This is the second newborn that I was supposed to photograph while still in their Mamma's belly. But again, it seems they had other plans. I was going to do Christina's newborn photos on a Friday, so I had called her on a Thursday to confirm, and that's when she told me that she had already had Ruben on TUESDAY! I was sad that we weren't going to be able to capture her beautiful pregnant self, but also giddy with excitement for them both. So, without further ado, I'd like you to meet Ruben:

I'd like you all to meet Lexie. This little miracle is the long-awaited daughter of my dear friends Brad and Missie. Isn't she absolutely beautiful?

I know how precious these moments are for Missie. How wonderful a feeling is it for a new mom when she is one of the few people that can get her baby to sleep? That bond is instant, and amazing.

No, there's nothing wrong with my camera. It's just not been used very often lately (said in an embarassed tone). No reason really...just the weather funk, my kidney funk...life I guess. But with the weather starting to take a turn for the warm, I'm feelin' the itch again.

I just aw that Scott Kelby, Mr. Photoshop himself, is giving a seminar this Wednesday at the convention center, and I'm not able to go. This would be an excellent learning opportunity..plus it would just be a lot of fun! Unfortunately, I'm working on a big project at my "real job", and it's hard to take any time off right now. So, I guess I'll just have to hope that the next time he comes through that I can be available.

Now, it's time to watch the Butler Bulldogs. G'night!

I think I've missed most of it. Partly due to sickness (mine and Izzy's), kidney issues on my part, weather, doggie drama....you name it, it's occurred.

Some other big news that's going on, and I posted about it on my personal blog, is that my husband's employer is relocating to Minnesota either at the end of this year or the beginning of next year.

As far as photography and my business go, I'm having a hard time finding anything negative about this impending change. All I see are good things....beautiful locations, lots of exploring to do, but most of all, the chance to MAYBE have a studio at home. A lot of the homes we've looked at have walkout basements with what looks to be pretty good light (at least in the photos it does :). This is also a great opportunity to maybe live out in the country a bit...have some land...create some sort of outdoor studio. I just get so excited thinking about the possibilities!!!

And with all of this going on, I've pretty much abandoned my 365 project. Now who's surprised by this one? :) Not me....not because I don't enjoy it (because I DO), but I have the memory of a goldfish right now (I blame prednisone :) and I just keep forgetting about it. So..in order to alleviate my own self-induced stress over it, I'm saying in public that I'm abandoning it without any guilt at all. Whew.....that feels GOOD!

Now that I've taken at least one thing off of my to-do list, maybe I can get back to doing what I LOVE. Taking pictures and showing you! Ok, gotta get back to watching the Purdue basketball game!
