They were searching for the moon.

“Come closer, you two”, said Captain Eagle first. “My senses tell me we’ll reach it in no time.”

“I wonder what it looks like?”, asked Buddy Mole with its pointy nose turning upward.

“Enlightened and gracious, a dancer” replied Sir Dog. “I’ve seen it once and it is a sight to never forget. And when I say that I saw it I mean really-saw-it, with my nose and my fur and my paws. You do have to use every part of yourself to see, you know.”

Buddy Mole stood in vigorous agreement until Captain Eagle urged them on, and so they roamed across the four white walls illuminated by dim lights, Captain Eagle flying first with Sir Dog and Buddy Mole following closely, one before the other, in rhythmic little hops. Around and around the walls they went, until the girl looked through the windows and saw only clouds, the moon nowhere to be found. Yet she remembered the words of Sir Dog and allowed the animals a quick rest as she fetched a piece of paper, a pair of scissors and some tape and cut a circle of paper and sticked the tape on its back and placed it on the wall.

“There”, she said. “Now I’m sure they’ll really-see-it; I mean, they just have to reach over.”
