Kate Snow jumps to NBC

ABC News anchor Kate Snow is defecting to NBC News, where she will be a correspondent for “Dateline,” NBC announced Friday.

Since 2004, Snow has co-anchored the weekend edition of ABC’s “Good Morning America,” a position viewed as a steppingstone to an assignment on the weekday edition of the morning show. But when “GMA” configured its team late last year after the departure of Diane Sawyer, the job of news anchor went to Juju Chang.

“She’s the whole package,” “Dateline” executive producer David Corvo said of Snow in a statement. “She can cover breaking news, she can interview, she can write, and I’m happy she’ll be doing all that at ‘Dateline.’ ”

Snow joined ABC in 2003 from CNN and covered the 2004 and 2008 presidential campaigns for the network.

Eighties heart-throb and rehab recidivist Corey Haim had an enlarged heart, pulmonary congestion and water in his lungs when he collapsed and died early Wednesday, his mother told Access Hollywood.

The devastated mom said a Los Angeles County Coroner official called with the report after an autopsy was performed Thursday.

The news followed revelations that the admitted addict, 38, had prescriptions for Valium, Vicodin and a muscle relaxant in the Burbank apartment he shared with his mom.

“No final cause of death has yet been established. We still have outstanding tests we are waiting for,” Chief Coroner Investigator Craig Harvey said late Thursday.

Harvey declined to confirm any autopsy findings, but Haim’s agent told the News his client confided that he knew he had a heart condition.

“He told me he had a skip in his heart, nothing major,” Haim’s manager Mark Heaslip said.

Heaslip said it’s possible the heart condition played a role in Haim’s death and reiterated doubts that Haim was back in the grip of deadly addiction.

He said Haim had weaned himself from serious pill-popping and was working with a new addiction specialist.

He believes the four prescription bottles found in Haim’s apartment came from the new doctor.

A different source said three of the prescriptions were for the sedative Valium, the narcotic Vicodin and the muscle relaxant Soma.

The fourth prescription was the anti-psychotic drug haloperidol, according to TMZ.com.

“I truly hope it wasn’t an overdose,” Heaslip said. “But (Corey Haim) wasn’t a doctor. If someone is giving him the wrong prescriptions, it’s the doctor who should know better.”

He said Haim had seen the new doctor only once in recent weeks as part of a plan to stay healthy and sober for a string of leading film roles he’d accepted. Heaslip said Haim’s sobriety was a condition of their one and a half year working relationship, and the actor demanded sober sets to stay on the straight and narrow.

The Canadian-born actor starred in ’80’s hits “Lucas” and “The Lost Boys” but was known more recently for the A&E reality show “The Two Coreys” about his friendship with fellow former teen idol Corey Feldman.

Sources said Haim had been suffering flu-like symptoms in the days leading up to his untimely death.

He’d been running a fever of 99 to 101 degrees and complained of shortness of breath shortly before he dropped to his knees in his bedroom and became unresponsive, Heaslip said.

Haim’s mom Judy Haim worried that paramedics took too long to respond to the 911 call she placed at 12:53 a.m., Heaslip said.
She said it felt like responders took 20 minutes to arrive, he said. Officials refuted that claim.

“We were on scene with the first arriving paramedics within six minutes,” Los Angeles Fire Department Spokesman Steve Ruda told the News.

“She is very, very upset. They were extremely close,” Heaslip said, adding that Haim was helping her battle breast cancer.
“He supported her all the way through the chemo and radiation. He surprised her with a really nice wig. He really took good care of her,” the agent said.

Merlin Olsen, 69, a Hall of Fame defensive tackle with the Los Angeles Rams who became equally well known after his playing days as a football broadcaster, television actor and commercial pitchman, died March 11 at a hospital in Duarte, Calif., outside Los Angeles. He had mesothelioma, a rare form of cancer often related to exposure to asbestos.

Mr. Olsen was the anchor of the Rams’ defensive line known as the “Fearsome Foursome,” an intimidating front wall that captured the imagination of fans in the 1960s and helped make defensive play in football as exciting and innovative as the offense. After his playing career, he was a TV football analyst for 16 years, had leading roles in the wholesome frontier dramas “Little House on the Prairie” and “Father Murphy” and was the longtime spokesman for FTD florists.

In his 15 seasons with the Rams from 1962 to 1976, Mr. Olsen never missed a game and was named to 14 consecutive Pro Bowl teams, a record later matched by offensive lineman Bruce Matthews. He won the NFL’s most valuable player award in 1974 and was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1982, the first year he was eligible. His jersey number, 74, was retired by the Rams, and he still holds the all-time team record for tackles, with 915.

“He had as much to do as any other individual with glamorizing defensive football in the NFL,” his official biography at the Pro Football Hall of Fame states.

Mr. Olsen played left tackle in the Rams’ legendary front four, with David “Deacon” Jones at left end, Roosevelt “Rosey” Grier at right tackle and Lamar Lundy at right end. The “Fearsome Foursome” were together only four years (1963-66), but in that time they revolutionized defensive line play with “stunting” and “looping” techniques, in which they crossed paths or slanted across the line to rush the passer. Jones, who lined up to Mr. Olsen’s left, coined the term “sack” to describe tackling the opposing quarterback behind the line of scrimmage.

Joran van der Sloot Confession: Dutch Suspect Admits Dumping Body Of American Natalee Holloway In Aruba

Dutch suspect Joran van der Sloot has confessed to disposing the body of missing American student Natalee Holloway while on the Caribbean island of Aruba, a Dutch newspaper reported on Tuesday. He made the statements in front of an RTL television camera.

The statements by van der Sloot follow a similar confession more than two years ago during an undercover operation by Dutch crime reporter Peter R. de Vries, which prosecutors said did not constitute new legal evidence.

‘De Telegraaf’ newspaper reported that – in the new confession – Van der Sloot said he is still scared of being prosecuted and admitted to disposing Holloway’s body in a marsh on Aruba. The report said the chief prosecutor on Aruba confirmed the story, but said Van der Sloot could be attempting to give multiple false versions to hide the truth.

Chief prosecutor Peter Blanken told ‘De Telegraaf’ that the confession resulted in a new investigation into the disappearance of Holloway, but eventually concluded without results. “It became clear that this statement is hold together by lies and fantasy,” Blanken said. “Times are wrong and named witnesses have denied.”

Blanken also said that, if Holloway’s body was disposed in the marsh, it would probably never be recovered. “If she was left there, the chances of finding her are extremely small,” Blanken said. “After several days, nothing would have been found except bones and maybe a plastic shoe.”

Natalee Holloway went missing on May 30, 2005 during a high school graduation trip to Aruba. The case received international media attention, but her body was never found.

Groundhog Day 2010 – Did The Groundhog See His Shadow? Staten Island Chuck Answering!!

Groundhog Day 2010 is full of surprise. Previously, many people still confused to ask did the groundhog see his shadow. However, after I surfed on the net for a second, finally I found that Staten Island Chuck answering for this question. Like that reported in NY1.com, there are two different opinions about it.

Firstly, it’s believed that the winter will be over soon because Staten Island Chuck says that Chuck did not see his shadow although in fact, the weather is more cold in the Groundhog Day 2010. It’s not really like the spring is around the corner.

While for the second opinion, Chuck friend in Pennsylvania, Punxatawney Phil did see his shadow, which means, the winter will be much longer up to six weeks forward.

The Miss America Contest 2010 has announced and Miss America 2010 winner is Miss Virginia, Caressa Cameron taking out the prize. Miss Virginia Caressa Cameron wins a $50,000 scholarship winning out amongst 53 other contestants. Caressa Cameron is a 22 year old hailing from Fredericksburg, Va. The contest starting with all 50 states plus the District of Columbia, Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico, coming out on stage, to the Black Eyed Peas hit “I got a Feeling.”

The first runner up who wins $25,000 was Miss California, Kristy Cavinder. The girls went through the Swimsuit, Evening Gown, talent and final interviews to win the crowns.

Last years competition actually had the runner up having more attention than the winner. As Miss California Carrie Prejean, answered a question by celebrity blogger Perez Hilton on gay marriage. And with her answer and after competition antics grabbed her infamy.

The competition is not the one that leads to the contestants competing for Miss Universe, that is the Miss USA Pageant.

Mario Lopez played host to the Miss America 2010 pageant finale. And judges included Miss America 2001 Katie Harman, Shawn Johnson Olympic Gold Medalist, musician Dave Koz, Vivica A Fox an actress, and radio commentator Rush Limbaugh, there was also Brooke White former contestant of American Idol.

The first Miss America pageant was in 1921, so it has come a long way since it’s beginnings, it was also held in Las Vegas.

Codswallop, primarily a British English term meaning “nonsense”, is an interjection of uncertain origin.

Popular etymology claims an ancient and vernacular origin for the word citation needed, with cod being interpreted from Germanic word for “bag” and later a Middle English term for the male genitals (as in codpiece). The wallop component can be referred to separately: Merriam-Webster gives it as the Middle English “walopen”, meaning to gallop.

Another popular etymology places the word’s origins in the brewing industry. In 1876, British soft drink maker Hiram Codd designed and patented a bottle designed specifically for fizzy drinks. Though his Codd-neck bottle was a success in the fizzy drink industry, alcohol drinkers disparaged Codd’s invention, often saying it was only good for “wallop” (a slang term for beer in the late-19th century). The term soon became “Codd’s Wallop” and was eventually used for anything of low-quality or rubbish.

Yet another theory has to do with cod. When cod was landed it went into the sheds for cleaning & preparation. The cold & wet waste trimmings from what were large fish would hit the ground with a distinctive sound, “wallop”. By association, the word codswallop became used for any significant amount of sloppy rubbish & from there, for significant spoken/written rubbish.[citation needed]

In 2009 British animation team The Brothers McLeod were nominated in the Short Animation category of the BAFTA Film Awards for their film entitled Codswallop.

At the age of thirty eight Kurt Warner has been playing the NFL for the last twelve seasons, but has decided to back away from the game he loves so much.

Kurt Warner suffered some injuries this season, which made it a tough one for the Cardinals quarterback.

Kurt Warner reportedly knew in his last game, the payoff against the New Orleans Saints that it would be his last.

Kurt Warner has not revealed any plans for his future, but has mentioned going down the path the lord wants him, following his religious beliefs.

Bank of America website down?

You’re not alone. In fact, people have been having problems with the Bank of America website all day, raising fears Bank of America website down may have been the victim of a cyber attack.

The timing has made the problem even greater, as thousands try to log in to Bank of America website to check their accounts before the end of the month (Monday is Feb. 1) and pay end-of-the-month bills.

Business Insider notes that the company’s Twitter account has downplayed the issue, insisting the site works but is only having problems for some people.

That account, @BofA_Help, has been assuring people via replies that its tech team is hard at work to address the problem.

Some bloggers are already weighing in with their disgust. One blog even claims Bank of America is having an “online PR crisis” by not properly relaying information and informing consumers.

This isn’t the first time Bank of America website has gone down. It happened in September 2008, April 2007, and back in February 2001.
