TRUE! I only knew a few of the Bands on the Grammy’s, just the ones that manage to get recognition for always being in the news! Continuing on my journey through the Indie World of Music, and all that is on my PLAYLIST is Indie Music. Even Mrs Limey is tapping her fingers in the LimeyMobile. (I’ll convert her someday)

One that should be on your playlist is Geri-X. Bulgarian-born Geri X is a composer, a musician and a singer hard to put a label on. But once you hear the VOICE, with that sultry bluesy vibe, you may never return. Latest album is White Light from the Spring of 2014. I got the CD and some treats via the Kickstarter Pledge site, but you can get the music from iTunes, or Bandcamp, and while at Bandcamp, catch up on previous releases. Of course, there is also Reverbnation.

Grand Format has been Rockin in the Kitchener/Waterloo area for a few years, and their sound is getting better at every release, tighter and polished.

Of note this month was the release of the new video by Anyone’s Guess for the track HUNTER off their third album, March In The Dark. Released under Red Dragon Records (Spectra Music Group). Recent download for me was from the band Friends Of Emmet, based between Dublin, IRE and Los Angeles,CA, and a treat it was to listen to. After only three years, these lads have a tight sounding package that is making waves on both sides of the pond. I begged, pleaded, almost on my knees, and now it’s here. Bittersweet Machines is on available on BandCamp.

Bittersweet Machines is the solo project of singer/songwriter Matt Mocharnuk.

In December of 2012 Bittersweet Machines released the debut album, SOLITUDA. Produced by Mark McKee and Saul Johnson, the album was described by Heath Andrews as "Taking the pop song craft of bands like U2 and Duran Duran and combining it with the tones of groups such as Radiohead and Catherine Wheel". While Kevin Mathews sums it up with one word... "Eargasm!"

Many moons ago, I started following a Wise Musician by the name of Joe Gande, and found him EVERYWHERE, and wondered what’s the deal?

But the deal IS, another opportunity to make a random connection, that in turn will lead to finding New Music, and for the Artist, hopefully a new FAN.
And I have found some amazing Music with just random connections, mainly on Twitter (my fave), but also from Sites that most never hear about. Which brings me to this weekends random connection.
Saw some friend requests come in from Numubu in my email, and thought I’d check it out, and found “the Koniac Net”, and as I do, checked for other links, and found the Band everywhere! (Where have I been?) SO, a quick LISTEN to see what the music is like, and found that it was just my cup of tea. AND then there was the Bandcamp Link! SO, three clicks later, the Music is playing just for me.

The BAND is songwriter David Abraham, but as popularity is gaining, Band members had to be added for live gigs. PLUS being a runner up in a Global Showcase is no small feat with the number of bands that enter each year. SO, it will be well worth your time to listen to a few tracks. I can tell you anything, but in the end it is up to you. We all hear music in a different way, so try something different!

Sometimes you just stumble across something that catches your attention, and the HIGHS are that one for the coming Summer of music.

Just catching up on CMW tweets, and found this band featured, so I thought I would check them out, and I was hooked.

Rhythmic, harmonic, with Doug Haynes - Vocals and guitar, Karrie Douglas - Vocals and keyboards, Joel Harrower - Vocals and guitar, Kevin Ledlow – Drums, this Toronto Indie band may have a bright future ahead, as long as the support is there, plus it helps to get a Track featured in a Movie! Two weeks in, and Windsor Band Drop Dead Famous is now in the Regional Round for Windsor, Ontario in the Searchlight on CBCMusic.

No small feat, considering the number of entries in that Region. Nationally, 4500 has now been narrowed down to 215, with Windsor showing off their Top 10.

A fellow music lover reminded me the other day, just how fleeting the life of an Indie Band can be, and it got me thinking of the Bands we lost over the last little while, and the reasons WHY!

First band that comes to mind is ROADS, a cool band from Montreal, with a catchy sound with life lessons and some Political undertones. From 2006, originally named FLICKER, they signed with the Indie Label INDICA, and looked like the future was bright. Doing ALL the right things, reaching out on Social Media, professional videos, getting regular gigs in their local area, a winning solution. BUT, it appears, life got in the way.

Folks forget about LIFE when they talk about the Music game. Not everyone get's signed at 13 years old, with millions of dollars behind them, like “Lorde”, so everyday life and work can get in the way.

Just found the band that LOS was talking about, and six years on August Rising has disbanded, and why? Again, since I don't know the band, I assume LIFE got in the way of the dream! AND they had a cool sound! But without a strong Support structure, the dream must take a back seat.

The current band lineup, formed in 2012, consists of

Just completed a successful pledge campaign on Pozible, to raise funds to professionally record all their latest tracks, samples of which are on their ReverbNation page, the next quest is the World.
Well rehearsed and polished performance, it will hopefully be a short time before they reach their next goal.

Aimee has toured the world with the likes of Pat Benatar and Steel Panther, played venues including The Key Club, The Viper Room (US), The Forum, The Corner Hotel (Melbourne), The Basement, ANZ Stadium (Sydney) and has just recently been selected to support P!NK at AllPhones Arena, Sydney in September 2013 - all as an independent, self-managed artist.

The 23 year old Melbourne born, Sydney based musician has recently been chosen as a finalist in the International Songwriting Competition for her song Control, and was asked to write Equestrian Australia's 2012 London Olympics theme song, 'Dreams'.

After just returning from a month long whirlwind trip to the USA (playing shows in LA (The Whisky a Go Go), New York and five shows at Austin's South by Southwest festival) she joined her live band to play an East Coast Australian tour before being invited to play at the State Theatre on May 18th.

If you are in my age group, and if you know me, then you know the group I’m talking about, my Australian mate, Phil Crossie has some delicious SMOOTH Pop sounds, just waiting for you, and the songs are truly delicious.

Just the guitar work alone is a pleasure to listen to, but Phil has a unique vocal style that should please any ear. Phil plays all instruments and most of the vocals, with an added back up singer on the track Roller Coaster (bandcamp link).

It was Les Serran’s birthday, and guess what? The BAND justs wants to ROCK!

And ROCK they did!

Some background on the band:-

“Step Echo is a Hard Rock Band based in the Niagara Region. The Band recently released Jagged a full length album featuring 11 songs. The album was recorded in the bands own studios (Fecal Noir) during the latter half of 2010 and was engineered, produced, and mastered by Corey Mcfadyen.
Step Echo was nominated for song of the Year with Jagged in 2011 Niagara Music awards and was also named Indie band of the year by Image FM.
EMI Released Crazy on a compilation record in 2012. [MOA Season 1]
On their first album alone the band has managed to produce 3 HD videos with a 4th one to be released in Mid March. [subscribe to Step Echo on youtube]
Step Echo's sound is Influenced heavily by Canadian rock. Powering riffs fuel an onslaught of melodic vocals that are cored by bass driven heavy rock drumming. The band is now in the process of putting together its second album while continuing to refine their sound. ”

Bio:-Gar Reid of ECLECTICUS has headed various bands since he was 17 years old. His love of performing live and making great music are the result of thousands of hours spent writing, mixing and producing in and out of the studio.

In 2008, Gar met lead guitarist, Del Rose, by happenstance at a local watering hole and began a conversation that led to a realization that both had something special to bring to the musical table. Gar met Tiina a few months later and discovered that there was an instant chemistry writing songs. This led to the birth of ECLECTICUS.

Since February 2011, ECLECTICUS has a new rockin’ addition to the band – Cole Blinov on bass.

Together, Gar’s original voice dominates the story being told, Del’s guitar playing has a virtuosity rarely heard these days, Cole’s funky bass sound adds dimension and the lyrical and melodic stylings of Tiina and Gar complete the landscape. Rock, Uptempo Funk, R&B, Electronica, Eastern Music and Rap are the backbone for this distinct and eclectic-sounding band. Their influences include Frank Zappa, Tom Waits, Elvis Costello, Jeff Beck, St. Germain, Pink Floyd, Enigma, Eric Clapton, Peter Gabriel, Tom Petty, Maceo Parker and Stevie Wonder to name a few.

ECLECTICUS, recently signed with uPlaya Records, has created an album of many flavours which can please most musical tastes! Their debut album – Eclecticus I – has been awarded 12 Platinum Auddies and two Gold Auddies.

ECLECTICUS released their second album "Hole-Hearted" April 26, 2012, on iTunes.

The music on this upcoming album has been written in the last 3 years and composed entirely by members of the current lineup of the band.

Here, Les utilizes his Chapman Stick in 3 songs, Constantin is experimenting with new sounds on his guitar, Iggy flexed his composition muscle extensively and Kyree wrote all the lyrics (only one translation from Slavic languages this time).

The recording was funded in part by our fans who donated almost $2800.

Biography from Power Of Prog:- "Half Past Four is a unique and innovative art-rock band. Crafting original, fresh soundscapes from their headquarters in Toronto, Canada, Half Past Four offers exquisite musical novelty and experimentation to true musical connoisseurs and rock-party goers alike. Drawing its inspiration from unique heritage of King Crimson, Frank Zappa, Jethro Tull and many other progressive, kraut, art and math-rock bands, Half Past Four takes pride and pleasure in taking art-rock a little further and planting its seeds in the harsh soil of contemporary popular culture.

The current version of the group exists since early 2005. Its debut has been celebrated by an opening concert at the Opera House and ensuing kaleidoscope of performances and projects thereafter. A well-received demo recording of 2006, followed by scoring the Billy Zane "Zomedy" horror movie "The Mad" and playing many cool venues with lots of great new bands resulted in recording their first full album entitled "Rabbit in the Vestibule".
