left;" trbidi="on">

There's so many things you can do with this cascading loops technique. You can make flowers with it, you can make leaves and many more. Here I'm just showing you the basics of how to make cascading loops flower.

I've made a video of how to make each cascading loops petal for you to use to make flowers with. It's very easy to do. You can use a quilling comb or a hair comb. Do check out the video below.

The above photo show the different sizes of the cascading loops that you can make depending on the length of the quilling strip. The longer the quilling strip, the longer set of cascading loops you will be able to make. :) Hope this tutorial helps give you a better understanding of how to make the cascading loops flower. :) All the best!! :)

I received this order last year but only now do I get to complete it for my customer. This design might look familiar to some, and it's because it's an old design I did last year. You can view the design at the link --> HERE. The old design had the wordings "I MISS U SO MUCH" on the card and for this one, my customer just asked me to replace the MISS with LOVE. She requested this card for her anniversary and Valentine's day occasion :).

I gotta say that this is one of my favourite designs to make. One reason is because of the wordings. I love the effect it gives to the card. Simple as it may seem, it's not that simple to make. It's worth the trouble though :).

I've been wanting to try to do this design in a different colour combination but didn't have the chance to do it yet. Hopefully I'll get a colour combination I really like and do it sometime this year ;)

This is another version of the tiny loops flower, but it is made using the quilling comb. As you can see, when using a quilling comb, the flower becomes a bit bigger than the flower made using a hair comb. And the tiny loops inside it becomes a bit bigger as well. So, in other words, the bigger the gap between each pin, the bigger the loops will be.

Here's a video tutorial I made to show you how I made each petal of the tiny loops flower using the quilling comb. :) Check it out!

As you can see from the video, I used only 1 strip of quilling paper to make the tiny loops petal and then wrapped around it half a strip of the quilling paper to secure the shape of the petal.

Once all the petals are made, you can join them together to form a flower. The quilled tight coil is just a sample of how you can decorate the flower to make it look more complete. But of course there are many other ways to decorate the middle part of the flower to make it look beautiful. I'm just showing the simple basics of how you can decorate it :).

The above photo shows how you can make the petal look a little different by pinching both ends of the petal to get the marquise shape petal. If you compare the shape of this petal with the petal made using the hair comb, this petal is a lot slimmer than the one made using the hair comb right? It looks a bit longer and slimmer to me :). So each one is special in it's own way. The quilling comb makes a different effect and so does the hair comb. Up to us to choose which we prefer the best :). So for those who owns a quilling comb, you can also give this technique a try! All the best!!

This video tutorial shows how to make each petal of this flower. This is my first video by the way. I've never made one before in my life. I'm so happy that I finally get to do it this year. Hopefully I will be able to make more and more video tutorials for my readers this year ;).

I used one quilling strip to make the multiple loops petal and then wrapped around it half a strip of quilling paper to secure the shape of the petal.

After making 5 petals, you can join the petals like the ones you see above by gluing them together using white glue or polystyrene glue to make them look like the shape of a flower. Then you can add a small quilled tight circle in the middle of the flower to make it look more complete.

If you don't like the tear drop shape of the petal, you can pinch both ends of the petal to get a marquise shape petal.

So many of my readers have asked me to make this tutorial for such a long long time now but I never got the chance to do so earlier. I'm so happy now that I finally got the chance to share with my readers how I make these flowers. So this is the basic of how you can make this type of paper flower using quilling strips and a hair comb. Do give it a try! All the best!! ;)

This is the same flower like the pink flower photo at the top with loops inside twisted using a slotted quilling tool.

I did it!!! Finally I am now able to make flowers using the husking technique! I combined it with the combing technique as well. That was how I started it out in the beginning. It helped me get the same size of petals for each flower. You could see the cascading loops in the middle part of the petal which is the start of the husking technique that I did. :)

I always thought to myself that I could never do a flower like this because it looks so complicated to make. But now, it's no more a problem for me to do it, thanks to the quilling comb :). Now I'm so excited to do more of this technique. But I'm new at it and still need to practice to make it perfect :).

Simple husking technique combined with cascading loops, but the colour of paper I used for this flower is a mix of two types of blue.

This is the same flower like the blue flower photo at the top with loops inside twisted using a slotted quilling tool.

An idea sparked by one of my student, Remy gave me the idea of how I could do the husking flower with two different colour paper. I did try making one in the beginning but it didn't turn out nice. I showed it to him and after much discussion about it, he asked me why not I apply the technique I did for the two toned cascading loops for this flower. And that's how it started!! Just like that! I immediately tried it out and tadaaaa!! Here it is! In my favourite colour too! Love it!! Thanks Remy!! :)

This is what is called the Royal flower. A good friend of mine Asma' Ahmad Bahari, invented this twisted loop technique for her husking flowers long ago. I've always wanted to do it but never believed that I could. Until now.....I'm so super excited about it. You can view her Royal Flower technique at her blog called Simple Ryhme. She also did a tutorial on how to make it :).

This is one of my favourites! Love the shape of the flower and the twisted loops inside it. ;). Will definitely practice more and hopefully will come up with new card designs using this technique :).

I never actually conducted any formal quilling classes before. I never was much interested in conducting one either. Never really had the time to actually do it seriously. But whenever anyone is interested to learn about quiling from me, I'm more than ready to teach them, informally that is. And this is one of the examples of me teaching a couple of my "informal students" at a local supermarket hihi! This just goes to show that if you are really interested to learn, you can learn it just about anywhere you like.

As long as you have the passion, you have the positive attitude, you can do anything your heart desires. And these two students have all that. It's a blessing for me to teach people who are passionate in what they do. :)

Fauzan is a Bachelor of Science in Biology Conservation graduate and currently loves to make handmade pop up cards in his spare time. He now loves to apply quilling on his cards as well. Although he is still new at it, he has his own style of making cards that is in my opinion pretty fun and cool :).

Remy is a chemical engineer student who is in his final year and currently on his semester break. His best buddy Fauzan has managed to influence him a bit on quilling and now he is very much interested in it. A fast learner and very enthusiastic I must say, just like his best buddy :).

I really had a great time teaching them today all kinds of techniques in quilling. Randomly teaching them the basics on how to create quilled flowers, leaves, stalks, and etc. Remy has even sparked a pretty good idea for me to try out tonight. A new kind of flower using the husking technique! Thanks Remy for the idea! I can't wait to do it :).

Sometimes, your own students can inspire you and push you to go further. You'll be surprised at the end of the day on the impact they can give you. I've definitely been inspired by these two and I hope I have inspired them as well to quill with a lot of passion :).

Yay! I got 2 mini paper shredders now. One small one, one big one. I just bought that big one recently from TAMU JAJA KRAF. You can check out the link to the blog HERE if you are interested to purchase one yourself :). You can contact the owner of the blog and request for preorders of the paper shredder.

I just love this big size paper shredder because I can shred one piece of A4 paper through it, without having to cut the paper in half like I used to with the small mini paper shredder. This saves me a lot of time and energy as well.

I thought of buying a new one just in case something happens to the small mini paper shredder, at least I'll have a spare for me to make my quilling paper. It's not easy to find a supplier who sells this shredder anyways, so when I saw the advertisement, I just quickly bought one without any hesitations. I love it so much! :)

I've been playing around with my quilling comb lately and came up with an idea to do a different kind of leaf design yesterday. There are 5 different colours of green shredded quilling strips in one leaf. I've combined many different colours in one shape before so it's nothing new. But.......

I love how the tiny loops inside the leaf looks, arranged one on top of the other. Unlike the looping style I've done before where the loops were arranged side by side. Just like the flower I made for this card. You can see the difference there right? The way the loops are arranged are bit different from the leaf. Although this technique is a bit difficult to do but the final part is easier to pull out of the quilling comb itself. So I like this technique better just because of that.

Hope to make other designs with this technique if I have the time. I can only experiment during my spare time now these days. Don't have much time to play! But when I do, it's great fun! :).

It's been a year since I last did a giveaway at my blog and this year I would like to start it again but it won't be like the blog giveaway I did in 2010. Although I will be doing it every month but I will only pick 2 winners per giveaway so that I will have ample time to prepare the stuff to be given away each month.

For January, I have these 2 cute little quilled lovebirds cards to be given away to 2 lucky winners. I can't wait to see who will be winning these two cards at the end of this month! ;)

OK! Now, let's check out how you can win these cards :).

1. Anyone can join this giveaway. Blogger, facebooker, twitters.....practically anyone from all over the world. :)

2. Just make a post about this giveaway at your blog or at your facebook or at your twitter. If you don't have a blog or facebook or twitter account, then just write your details at the comment box.

3. Write this details at the comment box :

    - Your full name
    - Your email address
    - The link to your post (if any)

The deadline for this giveaway is on 30th of January 2012. Winners of this giveaway will be picked randomly. I will be making an announcement on 31st of January 2012 to declare the winners.

After my first try at combing two different colours of scrap quilling strips in my previous flower design, I got another idea of combing 5 different colours of scrap quilling strips in one flower. The idea came about when I was packing my multicolour shredded quilling paper. I have 5 different colour packs and I made 5 different coloured flowers using colours from each pack. I even made a flower from the multicolour green quilling strip pack! haha! First time ever making a flower using different shades green colour.

The shape of the petals are a bit different from the previous flower design. I made the marquise shape instead of the teardrop shape. I like both shapes the same. No favourites. :) Each shape is special in it's own way.

I don't like to throw the good scraps of quilling strips away each time I shred paper. So I keep them in case I have ideas for future projects. The scraps of quilling strips can still be used but they had to be processed first. I had to sort them out one by one and cut out the ends that were not usable and used the good parts of the quilling strips in order to make these flowers you see above.

I just got the idea of how to do it this afternoon and kept on making them because I loved how they looked. Each flower has 2 different colour of quilling paper. Each colour paper were cut the same length and were joined together piece by piece. Although it took a little extra time for me to join each piece of the short quilling strips together to get one long strip of quilling paper, I didn't mind it at all. It was all worth the trouble.

So, after I formed a long strip of quiling paper, I used the combing technique to create these flowers.

The best part of this little project was that I felt good being able to finally reuse the scraps of quilling strips. ;) Waste not, want not ;)

Yesterday I received a lovely email from Miss Jennifer Tigges who is the owner of the blog "A Letter A Day Keeps The Sadness Away". She approached me with her idea about sending a letter a day for an entire year. I was really fascinated by her idea and to my surprise she asked if I was willing to donate some of my cards for her project. It doesn't matter how many cards I want to donate....it can be just one, or two or three or how many my heart desires. And so I immediately said yes :).

In return for the donation, she will write about my handmade cards at her blog and she will write about me as well to those who will be receiving my handmade cards. I have no idea who will be receiving them, but I hope whoever they may be, it will bring much joy and happiness to the person receiving it. To be able to put a smile on someone's face is something that money can't buy. ;)

I do have some collection of cards that I have put aside simply for giveaways. So this is just another good channel for me to give other than doing blog giveaways. I love participating in this type of project and it makes me happy to be able to donate my handmade cards for a good cause. So, if you are a cardmaker yourself and would like to donate some cards to Jennifer, you can do so by contacting her at her email address: jtigges@mac.com :). Do visit her blog too if you wish to find out more about her project ----> A Letter A Day Keeps The Sadness Away

Thank you everyone for stopping by! ;)

I'm going to start the new year by entering a blog giveaway! hihi! Before I start doing one myself for my card blog, I thought this would be a good idea for me to start off the new year by taking this opportunity to try my luck at winning these lovely goodies from Really Reasonable Ribbon.

All those ribbons, pearl dots etc looks so yummy and the most yummy of is definitely the Scor-Buddy!!! Gosh! I've been wanting to get me one of those for quite sometime now. It's great for scoring cards and there are lots of things you can do with it. I just want it so bad since last year but never got a chance to win it whenever I entered a giveaway that offers such product. Hopefully I'll get lucky this time, who knows but if not, at least I gave it a try ;).

Hello dear readers!

I hope it's not too late for me to wish Happy New Year 2012 to all my readers! Today is the first day of a brand new year for all of us and I would like to take this opportunity to extend my gratitude for all your continuous support for this blog throughout 2011 and for still sticking around with us for 2012 :).

Although I didn't blog as much in 2011 compared to 2010, for me 2011 was an awesome year for me nonetheless. A lot has been achieved by Lin Handmade Greeting Cards and I think I've learned so much last year personally. But there is so much more to improve creatively and in business.

For this new year, I've so many things planned and hopefully be able to carry out each plan that I have made for this blog. One of it is to bring back one of my most favourite activity which is "Blog Giveaways". It probably won't be as big as I did in 2010. It will just be a small one that I do each month for my dear loyal readers. I'll blog about it soon enough :).

A lot of people are still not aware that I no longer take personalised card orders. Yes, it's true. I'm taking a break from taking personalised card orders for a while. Not sure for how long. Perhaps until I am ready to do it again. Truly sorry to disappoint those who are interested in personalised cards from me. I hope you understand.

I want to concentrate on other new projects for this new year and taking out personalised orders from my work list is a must to make the new projects successful. I hope to be able to make ready made cards instead and hopefully that will be something that you will like. :) Hopefully ;).

Here I would like to apologize to those who's emails or messages in Facebook or in blog I did not reply or replied so late. Surely it was not intentional. Truly sorry. Due to technical problems sometimes these things happened and your messages did not get to me or was not replied as fast as you hope I would. Hopefully this year, I will be able to avoid such problems and things will run smoothly for all of us.

Lastly, I do hope to get your continuous support and positive feedback so that I can improve for the better. Again, I wish everyone a very happy new year and all the best!! ;)

HB097

5th of January 1984.....it's a special date for my dear customer's husband :). Alhamdulillah I managed to get this card order done on time and also a paper beaded bookmark as well for my dear customer. I wasn't so sure I was able to make them at first. I haven't been in the best of health lately.

Pretty excited about designing this card for my customer who requested this birthday card for her dear husband. She wanted something simple and elegant looking, nothing too crowded. White background with some colours of my choice to be added. Sometimes doing a simple design can be complicated for my brain to handle hahaha. I over think the design sometimes and cannot decide how to make it simple. In the end I decided to play with ribbons and some bling bling. ;)

I guess this is the first time for me to use the glitter foam on my card. First time for me as well to draw a number, a big number on the glitter foam and cut it out by hand. It was an interesting experience to do that. I've only use glitter foams to make heart shapes before but never something like this.

This is the first time for me as well to make a cover for the birthday card. This was a request from my customer who wanted something similar to this. I didn't know how to do it at first. I just did what I thought was right and although I didn't have a pretty nice lacey type of paper to use for this purpose, I designed one myself using a bit thinner paper, pearly white metallic paper.....and decorated it with the same type of paper in shapes of hearts. The hearts were cut using a craft punch. Two sizes...one small one, one big one. All scattered around the front and I added some silver glitter dots on it too. Lastly I added a shiny ribbon to wrap up the card with. The envelope is made from a shiny silver paper. Love it! :)

Inside the card there is a pop up of a photo of her husband and his mother, plus some wordings she asked me to add in the card. I am not allowed to upload the photo here so, I'm sorry I couldn't share it with everyone that part of the card. I have to respect her privacy :).

BM020

Ok! Here's the bookmark! My customer was interested in my paper beaded bookmarks that has names engraved on it. So I was asked to engrave her husband's name....and since the card is black and white in colour, I decided to make the bookmark in the same colour combination.

She also requested that I added her name on the bookmark. I just didn't know how or where on the bookmark that I can add her name. Didn't want to put her name behind the bookmark....didn't think it would look nice that way. Luckily I thought of the alphabet beads I have available in my collection and added the words, "LOVE" and "RIFFA" to the ribbons. So when you look at the bookmark, it will look like "Eswar love Riffa" or "Riffa love Eswar". Love it! :) Happy that my customer liked the idea too. So problem is solved! Yay!! :)

I thought of only making one card design for Christmas this year but I just couldn't help myself but make another one for a dear friend of mine. I made the quilled Malaysian flowers a while back when I was so crazy about making Malaysian flowers hihihihi. I made a bunch of these Malaysian flowers in red colour and I thought why not use them for this Christmas card design and so I did.

I loved the design of the Malaysian flower card I made before and I wanted to give it to my dear friend but the colours doesn't suit the occasion. So I made this new one instead and the colours are perfect for Christmas.

The card does not have a pop up inside. Just a plain white paper inserted inside for me to write in special wishes for my dear friend. I love using the corner punch to punch out the corners of the paper inside. Love the look so much :).

I haven't posted the Christmas cards I've made .....gosh I hope it will be able to arrive on time. I'm always late!! :S Yikes!!

I'm not sure how many times I've done this design. So many many many times hihihihi....in so many different colours too. This time I'm doing it in two other different colours. One in brown and the other in purple. Love both cards as the paper is metallic....shines when it hits the light :).

Usually this design comes with a pop up inside but for this two I didn't make any. Just a paper inserted inside the card for writing in special wishes. It's been a while as well for me to make quilled hearts. Combining few colours in one heart. Used to love doing that a lot last year. :)

These two cards are actually for a dear aunt of mine who ordered these birthday cards for her dear sons. Hope she likes it :).

This design is actually a design I've made before but the original one was in a different combination of colours. You can view the old design here --> HB076. I made that design last year. I received an order to make the exact same design except I was asked to change the colours according to my customer's preference and I kinda like the colours too :). It's from a red card to a blue card.

I changed the pop up inside a bit as well. The original one was made with the weaving part a lot longer and this one I shortened it a bit. Perhaps you can spot the difference if you look closely :).

It's nice sometimes to revisit the old designs and get the chance to do it again. Brings back the memories of the earlier times when I started learning how to quill and this technique was the easiest ones to do for me at the time. ;)

I've been enjoying making quilled flowers pretty much lately, making lots and lots of them without any reasons...I just love making them during my spare time. Just yesterday I thought of making these flowers and I don't know what to call it but I love making it! hihi! I got the idea of doing this type of flower after I tried my hand at making the beehive flower recently. You see, instead of inserting the twisted strip of paper inside the petal, I decided to insert a quilled teardrop inside it. Super easy! Perhaps there are other quilling designers out there who have done this kind of design before, I'm not really sure but this is something I thought of when making those beehive flowers. I just wanted to insert whatever I can inside the flower and the easiest for me to do at the time was to insert the quilled teardrop :).

You can insert a quilled marquis or a tight quilled coil or a loose quilled coil or whatever you think is nice inside the petal. The other difference is that I made the petal extra thick compared to the beehive petal. You can see the difference in thickness and in size as well. These flowers are a lot less smaller than the beehive flowers I made.

The flower kinda looks like there is a flower within a flower hihihi. Noticed that? I love it. I made the petals using the quilling comb. This way I can decide what size I wish to make for the petals. You can see the difference in size for the two flowers I made at the photo at the top. Those who own a quilling comb can give this technique a try. Just try it, it's super easy! ;)

It's a new quilling technique called "The Beehive" which I found out from my fellow quilling blogger friend Pritesh Ananth Krishnan from Quilling Me Softly. She shared the video tutorial on her Facebook. I checked it out and I'm so loving it now! Yes! It's actually a new technique of quilling invented by Miss Susan from Susan Quilling Cards. Do check out her blog at the link for more designs of Beehive quilling technique that she shares at her blog. They are all so beautiful! It's just so inspiring to see all her artwork. I just had to give it a try myself last night and it worked! Pritesh's video tutorial was easy to follow. Check out her video below.

When I first gave it a try I find that it was kinda tricky at first to put the quilled yellow part inside the orange quilled petal. Gotta be careful so that it doesn't get pinched so bad when I try to squeeze it all inside the petal. The twisted yellow paper was done just by using the slotted quilling tool. But I have to say it's so fun to make this flower. Definitely can be very addictive too! hihi!

The length of the quilling paper that I used for the petal is 29.8cm and the same goes for the twisted yellow paper inside the petal. I haven't tried to make them in smaller sizes though. Will try to make the petals smaller and see how it turns out. Because the one I made here is pretty big in size as you can see from the photo above where I placed the flower on my hand. :)

I haven't the time to make a card using this flower yet. No time to do so right now. I just love making different types of flowers lately but not so much in the mood of making the cards....hehehe *so lazy*.....just enjoy the process of making the flowers.....lots and lots of flowers. ;) Hope you'll give it a try too this coming weekend!! It's fun!! :D

Pink, pink pink everywhere......different shades of pink on one card. But one of the flowers here, the colour looks like peach, when actually it's cyber pink... lighting problem :(. I'm experimenting with another type of leaf pattern that I've tried to turn into flowers. It's similar to the flowers I made yesterday but has a slight twist to it.

Remember the quilling blog hop I did early this month? Have a look at the link HERE. Look at the leaves. It's the same technique I used for the petals of this flower. The only difference is that I squeeze the middle part of the petal close together so that it looks like a petal. It can look like a leaf as well, if you use green colour quilling strips :).

Basically, there are a lot of quilled patterns out there that we often use to make leaves but we can also use them for making flowers. All we have to do is just change the colours.....colours that are suitable for flowers. This is just the basic pattern, but I know there are a lot more that we can do with it to make it different. All up to our creativity :).

This flower is made using the combing technique. And like the recent Christmas flower, I used the flat hair comb to make this flower too. All because I love the small loops I get when using the hair comb. But of course you can also use the quilling comb to make these flowers too. How I made these flowers is just like the flowers I made for the Christmas card. Same technique except the part when I want to fold it in half, I fold it the other way around. Kinda complicated to explain it here. But I will make a tutorial about how to do it one day. It's difficult to take photos of it while quilling it though that's why I haven't made it yet. Must get someone to take photos of it for me while I'm combing the quilling strips hihihihi. :D

I also tried to do the Royal flower using the same flower from the card above. I just took the slotted tool and twisted the loops inside each petal and this is how it turned out. Not as nice as the original Royal flower though. I still prefer the original one that looks soooooo beautiful. You can make the Royal flower using the husking technique. That is another quilling technique that I have yet to try. I must try it someday! hihi! You can see the tutorial on how to make the Royal flower at Simple Ryhme's blog link HERE. :)

At first I wanted to do the Christmas flowers (Poinsettia) for my Christmas cards this year but the flowers I made ended up looking like this in the end haha! Doesn't look much like the Poinsettia at all :D.

I have seen so many card designers using this technique to make quilled leaves. Have a look at Suganthi's blog HERE and Anastasia's blog HERE for more photos of this type of quilling technique that they used to make quilled leaves. They are all so beautiful!

But instead of making leaves with this technique, I used it to make flowers instead. I love how it looks :). I used a small flat hair comb to make each petal for the flowers. You can also use a quilling comb for this technique. If you use a hair comb, the loops will be smaller in size compared to the quilling comb. I guess it depends on the size of the gaps between each teeth of the comb and also the size of the teeth as well. The smaller the gap or teeth, the smaller the loops will be. You can view how to make these flowers at the video tutorial below:
I love the ribbon as well. If I'm not mistaken I bought the ribbon about 4 or 5 years ago.....way back when I was staying in KL. Didn't buy a lot of it.....just one meter coz it was pretty expensive....couldn't afford to buy a lot of it at the time. But I decided to use it today for this card coz it's for someone special. I made this card for a special friend of mine. In fact I'll be making another one soon for another special person in my heart. These two ladies have been supporting me and motivating me in my love for card making all these years and I thought of making this card for them this Christmas. Thinking of making a pop up inside the card as well..hope to be able to get it done on time and posted. Don't want it to arrive to them so late. ;)
