This year in 7th and 8th grade science, Mrs. Kubik has been inviting speakers to come visit the classroom to give students exposure to careers in science. This year the students have heard from two behavioral scientists, a mechanical engineer, a bio-chemical engineer, and now a meteorologist! The speakers talk a little bit about their career, why they choose their career and different aspects of their job they both like and dislike. They also discuss their educational background and experiences that best prepared them for their current occupation.

The 8th graders just finished up a weather unit and were fortunate enough to have a local meteorologist to come and talk. He discussed severe weather with the students and gave them some fun weather facts, then allowed for some questions from the students. During this time the students asked him many questions about life behind the camera and how he got to where he is today working at 10/11 News.

It was a great experience for the kids and Mr. Anderson said he would be willing to come back again next year too!

Recently, Lincoln Christian has been blessed with the completion of a new band room. The idea was first conceived a number of years ago; however, the actual construction was only able to be begun in December of this year. The new facility has impacted the student body, as well as the music and band department, in a very real way. “We used to have to divide the Jr. High band into two separate classes, because they couldn’t all fit in the old music room,” said Mrs. Bond, band director. “Now we can have them all practice together, which really helps with class scheduling.”

High School Junior Joel Mohrman commented on the significance the new band room has had on his classroom experience. “It has been a great blessing to have the new facility! We now have more space, and even the move from one room to the other was helpful because it allowed us to clean and reorganize all of the band equipment. I’m sure the choir appreciates their newfound space, too. I remember hearing about this whole idea when I was back in seventh grade, and it’s cool that it has finally been completed!”

The band room has provided more than just space, however. “Another really awesome feature regarding the facility is its technological improvement.” Mrs. Bond commented. “We have a new system in there called ‘Smart Music’ which shows students the music they need to learn and, if they hit a wrong note, it shows them what they missed and even provides them with instructions on how to correct their mistake.”

“We are so thankful that God has provided this much needed space for us to use to His glory!” said Mrs. Bond. “It was really neat to see the Lincoln Christian family come together with their time, talents, and financial gifts to make this new band room a reality. It would not have been possible without their help!”

LESA WILLIAMS SAYS:

For all those who witnessed Levi Kroeker’s steady love for the Lord and experienced his consistent selfless service to others demonstrated on a daily basis, take up the banner and honor him by doing the same!

ANDY CLEMENTS SAYS:

Mr. Levi Kroeker was a blessing to our entire family for many years. He governed his life in a Christ-like manner that was an example to all who knew him. His face radiated the joy of the Lord each time I saw him; from back when I was a child at LCS Elementary on Normal Boulevard, clear up until last summer, which was the last time we met. He will be missed on earth, but will be welcomed into Heaven for eternity – Praise the Lord!

Andy Clements
LCS Class of 1993

BEN POWELL SAYS:

Mr. Kroeker was a man of unbelievable character. Looking back at my elementary years, I could always tell there was something different about the way He lived his everyday life. Now I know it was his love for Christ shining through. He had a huge heart for his students too. How many principles will come into every single classroom, sit on the kiddie chairs, and share his lunch with a group of students? He will be greatly missed on earth, but his heavenly reward for lives changed will be great.

GRETA BLOYD SAYS:

We started at Lincoln Christian when Tanner was in 2nd grade for a variety of reasons. We quickly realized that we didn’t want to be at any other school, and we wouldn’t dream of putting our kids anywhere else. Tanner & Kyler both love Lincoln Christian so much and are so grateful for the opportunity to go there. That is in large part because of the environment and love and family that Mr. Kroeker helped build.

When Tanner was in 6th grade, Mr. Kroeker made a “Memory Madness” award for him for being able to say all his verses at the end of the year. That’s one of our favorite memories. He was always so encouraging to the students and they loved and respected him. We parents knew the kids were in wonderful hands and we loved knowing many of them were learning the bible from such a humble, godly man who personified being a follower of Jesus Christ. Lincoln Christian is so blessed and grateful to have had him leading for 44 years. He will be greatly missed, but we rejoice that he is face to face with Jesus today!

FAGAN FAMILY SAYS:

Most people hope to have the level of impact Levi did. An incredible man of God who taught our family and many others so much…by living a simple life committed to Christ. That’s the greatest lesson of all.

Bless you all for sharing your husband/father/grandfather with us. We praise God for Levi. May the Lord fill the empty spaces of your heart and lives with His peace and presence.

Hugs and Blessings,
The Fagans

PHIL BOEHR SAYS:

Marlis has chosen some wonderful hymns for us to sing at Levi’s funeral on Wednesday. They speak of God’s faithfulness andgrace. “Great is Thy Faithfulness” is one of the hymns. Levi lived trusting God’s faithfulness and has himself become an example of faithfulness both personally and to the task that God had given him at Lincoln Christian School.

In another hymn chosen for the service “When We All Get to Heaven”, one verse says: “Let us then be true and faithful – trusting, serving every day….” The other word that personified my dear brother Levi was “servant”. Life for him was not about Levi, but about serving others, no matter how small the task. He was great in the little things – a true evidence of God’s work of grace in His life.

I’ll miss you, Levi. You’ve touched my life for eternity, and your legacy lives on in me and my family.

Serving Him until He comes again,
Phil Boehr

MELODY KUGEL SAYS:

Mr. Kroeker’s life impacted thousands in the light of eternity! Now that is worth celebrating!

Thank you Mr. Kroeker for modeling Christ-likeness!

EARL AND MARILYN MCCLINTOCK SAY:

We have known Mr. Kroeker since 1974 when our daughter, Edie enrolled in the 7th grade (and then Tim entered kindergarten the following year). It was obvious to us from the start that Mr. Kroeker was a very godly man. He set such a good example for us all, and like the apostle Paul, he could have said, “follow me as I follow Christ”.

To be sure, he will be missed, but his legacy of being a caring and thoughtful teacher/ man lives on. Can you just imagine the reunion going on right now with those who went before him, and the Lord in the center of it all? Gives me goosebumps!

God be with you, Marlis. Our prayers are with you.

CORY FREE SAYS:

For most of my schooling, Mr. Kroeker was the only principal I ever knew. Consequently, he became the standard by which I measured all educational authority. His upright, steadfast, gentle and approachable method of educating have inspired me greatly as a teacher.

I’ll never forget sitting across from Mr. Kroeker at my first committee meeting thinking, “How in the world will I ever be able to address him by anything other than “Mr. Kroeker” and how in the world will I be able to sit at the same table of leadership with the man who has guided Lincoln Christian School for over four decades? What could I possibly have to say that would be of any interest or even value to this man?” Yet, always the great educator and gentleman, Mr. Kroeker would listen intently on those rare occasions when I did dare to venture an idea in his presence and for that (among many other things) I am very grateful.

My prayers are with Marlis and her family for even though we all know that to be present with the Lord is greater than sitting on any throne on earth, I can’t imagine loosing a family member who was so inspirational to so many. My guess is that all of these accolades are a double-edged sword. I pray that they are more so the edge that helps with your healing.

May you find God ‘s love even in this time of great loss. I sincerely thank you so much for lending your husband and father who guided and directed even the most ornery of children who, perhaps all too often, found himself sitting outside the office of one of the kindest and best paddle-equipped principals I’ll ever know.

His peace,
Cory Free

JASON HARMS SAYS:

When looking at Facebook these last few days its really amazing to see how there are so many comments from LCS alumni regarding how Mr Kroeker left a lasting impact on their lives. I’de guess that most principals never get to know and care for their students the way that Mr. Kroeker did. I’m thankful I got to be lead and taught by him.

ANITA ROHLFS SAYS:

The Power of Promise
Anita Rohlfs/January 2012

As I talked with my students that Tuesday morning, I knew they were supposed to have a test the next time they had class with Mr. Kroeker. “Remind me what you were learning about today in Bible?” I asked them. Their response jogged my memory.

I had been sitting in the back of the classroom overhearing Mr. Levi Kroeker—man of The Word, man of his word—define the word “covenant” to a group of twelve year olds who live in a world where promises are broken more than kept. “A covenant is a promise that should never, never, never be broken.” I remembered now: Genesis, Noah, the flood, the rainbow…God’s promises to us and us keeping our promises! That’s what I had heard Mr. Kroeker teach just a few hours before we would get the news that he had been taken to the hospital and was in critical condition.

I was humbled to be the one who got to communicate Mr. Kroeker’s earthly condition to a group of sixth graders who considered him to be nearly immortal. Three mornings a week, he drove ever-so-slowly into the parking lot and walked into the doors of Lincoln Christian School. He walked into our classroom, removed his Bible from his briefcase, opened it up, and said, “Let’s pray.” And then The Word would come alive!

That Tuesday afternoon we sat on our desks and talked. “OK. It’s like this. If Mr. Kroeker is a walking miracle in these halls again in a few days, that’s great! And if Mr. Kroeker is walking gold streets in heaven, that’s great! Mr. Kroeker would want us to trust the promise of God’s best plan.”

So we did! For the next two days, we asked God for His best plan. We went to the promises of Psalms for encouragement; we talked matter-of-factly that the most important way to honor Mr. Kroeker’s legacy of faith was to be confident in our own salvation through Jesus; and we grew up a little, knowing that we were the special group that God asked to walk through these circumstances.
And Friday afternoon, we got to share the moment of realization that God’s best plan had been fulfilled: Mr. Kroeker was, in fact, in the presence of his Savior Jesus, walking those streets of gold, and worshipping the God who promises heaven!

“Thank You, Mr. Kroeker!” the sixth graders had said that Tuesday morning as he zipped up his coat, grabbed his briefcase, and walked out the doors of Lincoln Christian School for the last time. Thank you, Lord, for Mr. Kroeker who spent his final conscious hours teaching us a lesson that encompassed who he really was: He was a man who stood powerfully on the promises of God, and he always, always, always kept his.

KEITH MILES SAYS:

Levi Kroeker was a man after God’s own heart filled with humility and integrity. As stunning as his passing is, it is amazing to think of the thousands of lives that he impacted for Christ throughout his life, and his Godly influence reaches even beyond LCS, as the lives he has touched have impacted others and spread the Gospel. He was a man of integrity and a true servant. Those future students at LCS will never know him, but that will see and experience evidence of his influence throughout the halls of LCS.

OLIVIA SMITH SAYS:

The Gift of Life

It’s really amazing how God works. The gift of life is amazing and can change in seconds or throughout years. But when life does change in seconds it’s important to remember that God gives us the gift of life and he can take it away when He wants to.

In life God sends people that you can really admire He uses everyone in your life for a purpose. Differences can be good and Mr. Kroeker made a good difference in my life. He made a difference in lots of people life (good differences.) On earth when you lose the gift of life if you are a believer you gain a better gift. A gift that Mr. Kroeker is enjoying up in Heaven. So when we are all grieving over Mr. Kroeker and the wonderful things he has done. We know that because he lost a gift he gained a better one.

SARA BRIGGS SAYS:

My family arrived in Lincoln, NE, from VA in 1981. One of the first persons we met was the man who would be principal for our children who would attend Lincoln Christian School for the next six years before we moved to NC. His quiet presence was one of meekness, marked by humility. Yet he exhibited remarkable leadership guided by love and wisdom, and this was met with respect from those who entrusted our children to his care in Christian Education. We are grateful for those foundational years he oversaw in our three children’s education, for his care and nurture and fingerprints on all our lives. What a godly man who poured out his life for countless others! Our love and blessings to his family in their loss of a great man. We wish we could join you in Lincoln for the great celebration of his life here on earth, but we will do so from afar.
