I recommend that you generate the rewrite yourself, rather than use an article spinner or other rewriting software. One of the goals of rewriting PLR is to make it uniquely yours. You want to make it your style and your voice, and you want to speak to your target audience. An article spinner can’t do any of that for you.

Before you start, decide how you are going to use the article and for what purpose. Is it going to be a blog post or website article, a newsletter column, part of an ecourse, the basis for a webinar or for some other purpose? (See the post, How to Use PLR Content for more ideas.)

When the content is for a more limited audience (your mailing list, an offline newsletter, a webinar) or isn’t being optimized for search engines, you may only need to a few changes. Most importantly, wherever possible make changes so the article pertains to and interests your readers. Rather than being a generic article, turn it into information that specifically addresses your readers. If you purchased content about using mailing lists to market to customers and your audience is pet owners, change or add examples so they pertain to dogs and cats, rather than leave in examples about organizing a home. Perhaps all you’ll need to do is change the title, add a paragraph or two and make a few minor edits to make it more like your own writing style.

For content that will be published online and that you want to optimize for the search engines you’ll want to be more methodical in your approach and make more changes. Decide what keywords you want to use and use them appropriately in the title and content. For SEO purposes you may also want to make the article more unique than you otherwise would. Also keep other on-page SEO techniques in mind as you edit.

Other ways to make the article more unique are by rearranging the information, cutting out some parts, or combining two articles into one. If it’s a how-to article you can add pictures or screenshots to illustrate the steps.

And of course you can completely rewrite the whole article to produce a completely unique version. The way I go about doing that is to take one paragraph at a time and reword the whole paragraph. Then I look for ways to rearrange the text and add examples or illustrations. Often I then put the article aside for a couple hours or overnight and come back to read it with a fresh mind to make sure it reads well and makes sense.

Rewriting can be as minimal or as extensive as you choose. Keep your readers in mind and make at least a few changes to add value to the content.

These are the commonly used terms and their commonly accepted definitions. But each service has its own terms of use and often sells different types of rights, so before you purchase any content be sure to read and understand not only the service’s terms of use, but the license specific to the package you are purchasing. Often you will also receive a copy of the license along with the content.

Private Label Rights. When you purchase content with “private label rights” you can edit and rewrite the content, including changing the title, adding or removing text, and changing the order. Usually you can add your name on as author and give it away or sell it. You cannot transfer private label rights to anyone else – you cannot give them permission to use or distribute the content.

For the most part, the content that is recommended here at Linda Stacy Recommends PLR falls into this category. However, you may find some resale rights content offered at the site, or get referred to a resale rights service by the recommended services.

Private label rights is often used as a generic term encompassing all these types of rights, so content advertised as PLR may also include other rights.

Unrestricted Private Label Rights. When you are granted unrestricted PLR, in addition to all the private label rights you have, you can also pass the rights on to others.

Resell or Resale Rights. Resell rights means you can resell the content and keep all of the profit, but you cannot change the content, add your name to it, or pass the rights on to others.

Master Resale Rights. With master resale rights, you can resell the content for profit and also pass private label rights on to others, but no one can make changes to the content.

Here are some tips for finding the best sources for professional PLR articles.

1. You get what you pay for. Good PLR articles generally cost about $1 each and special reports and ebooks can start at about $15 and go upwards from there. When comparing sources be sure to understand what you get with each package. Some may be just the special report while others may include more than one report, a sales page, articles, or marketing materials such as autoresponder messages.
2. Check the quality of the writing. First impressions may be one clue to the quality of the content. If the sales page is poorly written and full of spelling and grammar errors, it’s probably a good indication that the content might be too. (And I’m talking text here; site design is just aesthetics.) Many PLR services will offer a free report or an introductory package; use them to evaluate the quality of the writing.
3. Check the validity of the information. If you are purchasing content that isn’t your area of expertise, take the time to research the information in an article or two before you use them. Is the information and advice accurate?
4. Select a service that limits the number of times they sell each package. By limiting licenses there’s less chance your readers will see the same articles over and over again.
5. When buying a membership, be sure the monthly content pertains to your niche. If you have a food and recipe site and the majority of the articles will be about car repair, acne cures, and solar energy you’ll end up with more expensive articles and a hard drive full of article you can’t make use of.
6. Only buy what you can use. I’ve learned the hard way that no matter how good the deal is, if I don’t have an immediate use for the content it often ends up unused and taking up storage space on my hard drive. If you don’t have an immediate plan for how you’ll use PLR content, don’t buy it.
Be sure to understand the usage rules before you join. Some questions to consider are:
• Can you completely modify the content? It’s one of the big benefits of using PLR – you can edit it to make it unique and targeted. You don’t want to be restricted in how you can modify it.
• What are the rules regarding how you can use the content? Are you restricted to selling it or can you give it away? Can you combine several pieces of content into an ebook? Can you place the content in your own membership site? Understand that unless a special license to do so is purchased, PLR services restrict you from redistributing the PLR rights (you can’t give anyone else the usage rights). Also quality sources don’t allow you to submit the articles to article directories like EzineArticles (and that practice is also against most article directory rules.)
• For membership sites, can you continue to use the content after canceling. (It’s not common, but it happened to me. A membership I belonged to several years ago required that I pay an additional one-time fee to continue to use the content I acquired while a member. This is not the case with any source I recommend.)

Like anything else, one of the best ways to find a good resource is to get a recommendation from a friend or other business owner you trust. But if you can’t find someone to recommend a resource for you, using these tips will help you make a better choice.

   Often the most difficult part of writing is getting started. PLR articles are a shortcut to starting the writing process and can save you a lot of valuable time. When you are particularly pressed for time you can make a few changes and within a minute or two have an article or report ready to publish. When you have a little more time you can rework the entire piece. Either way, it’s much easier to have content to start from instead of having to start from scratch. If nothing else, PLR content provides an idea and an outline to get you off and running.
2. A Website in a Box

First and foremost – just use it. Don’t become like many of us who buy PLR and store it for use later on. My recommendation is that if you don’t have a use for it right now, don’t buy it. And when you do buy it, use it as soon as possible.

While you can use PLR as is, I think it’s a good idea to rewrite it to make it in your own voice and a bit unique. But there’s nothing wrong with using it “right out of the box” and I’ve done so myself on occasion, when I need a bit of content quick and I just don’t have time to rewrite it.

A word about “duplicate content.” If you’ve spent any time reading about PLR you’ve surely been “warned” about search engine “duplicate content penalties.” I’ll get into that whole issue later on, and for now I’ll just say that there’s a whole lot of misinformation out there on the subject. I strongly urge you not to fill an entire website full of PLR and other freely distributed content, but I’m certain a few instances of unedited PLR is not a problem.

So back to the topic at hand. Here are some ways to use PLR articles and PLR ebooks and special reports. NOTE: All PLR sources have rules about how the content can be used so be sure to read, understand and follow those rules before putting any of these tips to use.

• Simply use PLR articles as content for your website or as blog posts. Ebooks and special reports can be broken up into articles for the same purpose.
• Use the articles or ebook as content for your mailing list or as an ecourse.
• Combine articles and special reports into an ebook that you sell or give away to email subscribers, or as a bonus for products you sell.
• Use the articles or ebooks as the basis for a teleseminar or webinar.
• Breakup the PLR into information snippets to post on social media sites like Twitter and Facebook
• Use bits of the articles as a tip of the day.
• Build a Squidoo lens.
• Make a video or audio course to sell or give away.
• Start a membership site around a specific topic.
• Create a printed newsletter to send to distribute to customers or potential customers.
• Start a coaching program.
