Pleasant Pheasants Meet Buffalo Check

Genealogy research seems to have taken over my life in past weeks! I have recently located a number of details about my grandparents and back even into the 1600's. I'm trying to achieve a balance between genealogy, work, and Stampin' Up.

Today I got to play with the Pleasant Pheasants stamp set. I have had a card taking shape in my head for the last week or so and today I was able to bring it to fruition.

I started by stamping the pheasants with Versamark onto an oversized matte of Tranquil Tide. I heat embossed with Gold Stampin' Emboss Powder and once it had cooled, I proceeded to tear the edge around the birds. I then used a stitched die from the Stitched Labels Framelits to add a line of stitching on the left side.

Next, I used Memento Tuxedo Black ink with the Buffalo Check stamp to create a matte on Tranquil Tide. I stamped three times to get a good strong pattern.

After trimming the matte down to size, I used a Gold Metallic Sharpie to draw lines extra lines on the plaid to jazz it up a notch.

An old brayer was used to apply Versamark to the Woodland Embossing Folder and, after using the Embossing Buddy on a 4.75 x 6" card front, I ran it through the Big Shot. Next, I heat embossed the card front using Gold Stampin' Emboss Powder.

I tied a length of the Black Glittered Organdy Ribbon around the plaid matte and then adhered the pheasant matte using both liquid adhesive (on the stitched side) and Dimensionals. The plaid matte was then adhered to the card front using Dimensionals.

The sentiment from the Sea of Textures stamp set was stamped with Versamark on Basic Black and then heat embossed in gold. It was adhered using Dimensionals.

Inside the card, a Thick Very Vanilla matte was stamped with the trees from Winter Woods and embossed with gold.

Roots of Nature 65th Birthday

For the last two weeks, in all my non-work hours, I have been working closely with my brother to create a slideshow for his partner's upcoming 65th birthday celebration. The show was finally completed and it turned out pretty darn good!

During one of the half days when we weren't working on the slideshow, I got time to sit down and create my birthday card for Simone.

At first, because she likes flowers so much, I thought that something floral was the way to go but then I got an idea from looking at a new Walmart recyclable bag!

I loved the way in which the colorful autumn leaves popped against the blue outline of the bag. More inspiration for my card came from both Denise Garrison's blog, where I discovered that I could use the Blends with one of our regular stamp pads without the stamped ink bleeding into the colors from the Blends, and from Connie Collins, when I decided to use some of her layering elements.

Showcasing some of the leaves from the Roots of Nature Bundle against a blue background like on the bag (representative of a sky) was my intent and I chose to use my new favorite blue, Blueberry Bushel. I used the Tufted Embossing Folder to emboss my matte.

Since I knew I would also be including some gold foil for my card elements, I decided to play up the glitz by also using a Gold Foil Matte. After cutting the matte, I used a Gold Metallic Sharpie to edge the foil so no white edges would show. I adhered the embossed matte to the gold with liquid adhesive and then to a 4.75 x 6" Blueberry Bushel card front using Dimensionals.

Using a die from the Stitched Labels Thinlits, I die cut a label from Gold Foil. On top of that I layered a #3 oval from the Stitched Shapes Framelits after heat embossing with gold a sentiment from the Painted Glass stamp set.

At this point, I had to decide on how many and what size and color leaves I would use. Using Soft Suede, I stamped several leaves, big and small, onto Thick Very Vanilla. After heat setting them, I used Mango Melody, Pumpkin Pie and Real Red Dark Blends to color the leaves.

I did not want the card stock border that would result from die cutting the leaves so I fussy cut the leaves and then used a Soft Suede Stampin' Write Marker to edge the leaves so that no "white" edges would show.

After playing with the design, I decided which leaves I would need. I then used dies from Bouquet Bunch and the Petals & More Thinlits to die cut various "greenery" from both Gold Foil and the Copper Glimmer paper found in the Joyous Noel Glimmer Paper pack. I added these into my design and snapped a pic with my phone for reference.

After deconstructing my design, I applied both Dimensionals and some Fast Fuse to the back of my sentiment label. I wrapped up some Copper Metallic Thread for both sides of my label and stuck it to the Fast Fuse.

Next, I laid the longest of my greenery pieces and glued them into place on the card front. The leaves were then adhered with Dimensionals. After adhering the label, I added more "greenery" until I was happy with the result.

To add a little more glitz, I used the same Blends to color some of the rhinestones and attached these to the card front as well.

For the inside, I heat embossed with Gold Stampin' Emboss Powder the three leaf cluster on Thick Very Vanilla. This was adhered to a Gold Foil matte and then adhered inside the card.

To hold the gift card for Simone, I embossed a small piece of Gold Foil using the Tufted Embossing Folder, scored, and then folded it in half. I used my 1" Circle Punch to punch a slot to enable the gift card to be pulled out easily and then used the Gold Sharpie to take care of the white edges. The sides were then secured with Tear & Tape.

Making this card for Simone brought me such a joy! Simone is a lovely person and I am glad my brother has her in his life.

Last Minute In The Woods Buffalo Check Birthday

The last couple of weeks I have been tied up with a family project and have not had a chance to craft! However, my brother's birthday was arriving shortly and I had only about 30 minutes in which to create a card for him! Needless to say, this is NOT my best work but still a simple and fun card to make!

I started with my new favorite, the Buffalo Check background stamp. Using the Stamparatus, I inked the stamp with Shaded Spruce and stamped on a piece of Bermuda Bay. To get a very clear print, I stamped 2X.

Next, I took a ruler and my Blueberry Bushel Stampin' Write Marker and drew lines in the middle of the clear sections, both vertically and horizontally.

To draw the lines, I used the brush tip of the markers. I placed the stamped matte on a piece of scrap paper and made sure to start my lines off the paper so that I could start and maintain an even pressure on the marker all the way across the line.

I trimmed the stamped matte, reserving a strip of the plaid. After this, I used the now retired Distress Tool to distress the edges before gluing it to a Blueberry Bushel matte. I tied a length of the Braided Linen Trim around the matte, fraying the ends.

A standard card front was cut and then I used the Woodland Embossing Folder to emboss the front of it to add further interest to the card front. The stamped matte was adhered to the card front using Dimensionals.

I used the In The Woods Framelits to die cut the two trees from Shaded Spruce. After popping up the little branches of the smaller one, I used a Sponge Dauber to apply a little Frost White Shimmer Paint to the edges. The tree was then glued to the larger tree and then adhered to the card front using Dimensionals.

The sentiment, from the Hand Delivered stamp set, was stamped with Memento ink on a strip of Blueberry Bushel and flagged at one end using scissors. It was glued to the card front.

For inside the card, I glued the plaid strip I had saved from my stamped matte onto the bottom of a matte of Thick Whisper White before adhering it inside the card.

For a quick little card, I don't think it turned out too shabby! I know that my brother liked it so that's what counts.

Buffalo Check Country Home

My Buffalo Check stamp has arrived and it has quickly become my favorite! No matter what color you stamp it with, the check pattern just looks so pretty and is definitely on trend for this fall! Today's cards both use the Buffalo Check and Country Home stamp sets but have a different look and feel.

For my first card, I started by stamping both the milk can and the flowers with Memento ink on Thick Whisper White card stock. After it was dry, I used my Blends to color. I used the Light Sea Foam Blend to color around the colored image and then used the Color Lifter to blend out the color. I then used a sponge to sponge more Soft Sea Foam around the edges of the card stock.

I used the Stamparatus with Thick Whisper White and Gorgeous Grape to stamp the Buffalo Check background, stamping 2X to get good coverage.

The Tin Tile Embossing Folder was used to emboss a Highland Heather matte. This embossing folder is AMAZING! It gives a very crisp, embossed pattern that looks good as both a background and a decorative strip. It can be distressed with ink or paint and it is lovely for embossing foil sheets. You will definitely want to order this from the Holiday Catalog on Tuesday, September 5!

A strip of the Buffalo Check was glued to the card front and then the colored image was adhered on top using Dimensionals. A length of Granny Apple Green Textured Weave Ribbon was knotted around it. The matte was then adhered to a Granny Apple Green card front using a piece of fun foam.

The sentiment was stamped on Thick Whisper White using Gorgeous Grape and then die cut using an oval from the Stitched Shapes Framelits. It was adhered to the card front using Dimensionals.

For inside the card, the same flower image was stamped, offset, and colored on Thick Whisper White and then matted on Gorgeous Grape before being adhered inside the card.

For my second card, I used the Stamparatus to stamp Thick Whisper White with the Buffalo Check using Mango Melody. This matte was adhered to a standard Blackberry Bliss card front.

I stamped the watering can and flowers on Thick Whisper White using Memento and colored them with Blends. To correct accidental flecks of ink when taking the caps off a marker, I decided to add more flecks to add interest, after first masking the colored image with Post It Notes.

One of the Pearlized Doilies was cut in half and the matte side sponged with Blackberry Bliss ink. This was adhered to the back side of the colored image and then the matte was adhered to the card front using Dimensionals.

The sentiment was stamped on a strip of Blackberry Bliss using Versamark and then heat embossed using White Stampin' Emboss Powder. a line of cross stitches was added by using a die from the Stitched Labels Framelits. a thin strip of the copper Glimmer Paper from the Joyous Noel Glimmer Paper was adhered behind the strip before adhering both to the card front using a Foam Adhesive Strip.

A matte inside the card had a thin strip of the same Glimmer Paper adhered vertically to the right side and the edges sponged with Mango Melody before being glued inside the card.

Petal Promenade Wedding Wallet

My project today gave me great pleasure to make.

Over the years I have watched my niece, Nicole, grow into a beautiful young woman and today she takes the next step in her life to marry the man of her dreams!

I knew that I wanted something very special for Nicole and Brad and along came Trayce Bauer with a stunning wedding wallet and video tutorial!

Though I had wanted to do something in Turquoise and/or Rose Gold (their wedding colors), I settled instead for using some of the gorgeous Petal Promenade DSP. If you haven't yet bought this, run to my online store now and pick some up! It is stunning paper and will be essential for all your summer projects and weddings!

I won't recreate Trayce's great tutorial here . . . better for you to watch her video. Suffice to say that I created the initial wallet piece using Thick Whisper White card stock and then added Petal Promenade mattes that were cut 1/8" smaller than the sections in which they were adhered.

Other card details:

For the flap of the wallet card, the corners were rounded using the Detailed Trio Punch. The DSP matte also had the corners rounded.
For the inside piece where the sentiment was stamped, a piece of Gold Foil, 1/8" smaller than the section to which it was adhered, was topped with another piece of Thick Whisper White, the corners which had been punched with the Detailed Trio Punch to let the Gold Foil show through.
The stamp set for both the sentiment on the belly band and inside the card were from the now retired Falling For You stamp set but there are many other current stamp sets you could use.
The belly band measured 2 x 11" and was cut from Blackberry Bliss. Using the Tufted Embossing Folder gave it a touch of elegance. The band was spritzed with water and then embossed at one end. The band was removed and the other end placed inside, carefully lining up with the previous embossed pattern, and then embossed again. It was folded around the completed wallet and adhered using Tear & Tape, leaving a little "give" to allow the belly band to be easily removed and replaced.
The front sentiment was stamped with Blackberry Bliss on Thick Whisper White and then die cut using the #3 circle in the Stitched Shapes Thinlits. The #7 scalloped circle from the Layering Circles Framelits was used to die cut a matte from Gold Foil. The two were adhered using liquid adhesive. (See my Numbered Dies Sets.)
Fast Fuse was applied to the back of the sentiment circle and then a nest of Rose Metallic Thread was adhered. Also adhered to the back were Mossy Meadow die cut leaves (Petals & More Thinlits) and Gold Glimmer leaves (Leaf Punch). The circle was then adhered over top of the belly band, at the front of the wallet, using Dimensionals.

Please don't think I'm cheap—I only had some $20 bills on hand to photograph this card! :)

The pictures of this card really don't do it justice! The DSP is just so rich and glamourous and the wallet is very sturdy and substantial. It will be a joy to present to Nicole and Brad!

Ever since I spotted the Galvanized Metallic Paper in the Holiday Catalog, I have been dying to make a masculine card with it!

I started by cutting a strip of the Galvanized paper and after spritzing it with water, ran it through the Big Shot in the new Corrugated Embossing Folder. Sweet! (However, I had the piece turned the wrong way in the embossing folder and had to do it again :( Oh well, I had a practice piece!)

After it dried, I used sponges to apply Balmy Blue, Blueberry Bushel and Cajun Craze to the corrugated piece to make it look like slightly discolored, rusty metal.

Next, I embossed a Cajun Craze matte with the Scattered Sequins Embossing Folder but turned it to the debossed side. It provided a surprisingly pleasing contrast to the embossed metal.

I adhered the metal strip to the matte with Dimensionals and then wound some of the Copper trim around the matte, securing it at the back with Fast Fuse. This matte was then adhered to a Blueberry Bushel card front using Dimensionals.

Next, from the Rooted in Nature Bundle I stamped eight small leaves on Blueberry Bushel using matching ink, and three larger leaves on Cajun Craze. These were die cut and then the edges were sponged with contrasting inks.

I used the 1" Circle Punch to create a base from Blueberry Bushel and then glued the small blue leaves to it. The Cajun Craze leaves were added under it and a Clear Faceted Gem was added to the centre. It was adhered to the card front with Dimensionals.

The sentiment, from the Abstract Impressions stamp set, was stamped with Versamark on Blueberry Bushel and then heat embossed 2X using Copper Stampin' Emboss Powder. The strip was trimmed and then adhered to the card front.

On a Thick Whisper White matte, three larger leaves were stamped in Cajun Craze and then two smaller leaves were stamped in Blueberry Bushel on matching card stock and die cut. These were glued in place over the stamped leaves with the excess trimmed off with scissors. The matte was adhered inside the card.

Part Two: Edge Stamping With Blended Seasons

Today's card post is Part Two of using Jennifer McGuire's Edge Stamping Technique with the Blended Seasons Bundle. Here is Part One in case you missed it.

Though today's card uses a number of the same elements as the card from Part One, the feel of this card is punchier and more dynamic because the colors I have chosen are complementary colors ie. they are opposite each other on the color wheel. Part One's card used analogous colors or colors that are side-by-side on the color wheel. This leaves the viewer with a much mellower or comfortable feeling.

In Part One, I described how Jennifer's technique was used to stamp the leaf clusters. I colored those leaves using Watercolor Pencils and blended them with the Wink of Stella pen.

For today's card, I used the Poppy Parade Blends to color the leaves. I simply colored each leaf with the lighter color, then outlined the markings on the leaf with the darker marker. To blend everything together, I again used the lighter marker over the whole leaf. I repeated this process for each leaf. The colored leaves were then matted with a thin, Basic Black matte.

With the coloring finished, I set about to embellish my card. I embossed a piece of Granny Apple Green card stock using the Basket Weave Embossing Folder. I spritzed the card stock front and back with water first and then ran it through and back the Big Shot a couple of times to achieve a very deep embossing.

Next, I die cut the piece with the middle size of the stitched die from the Blended Seasons Bundle. I wasn't sure that the die cut would be successful because of the deep embossing of the Basket Weave embossing folder but I was absolutely amazed at the stitched detail, even on top of the embossing!
I adhered the shape to the colored leaves matte using Dimensionals.

I cut a length of the Gold Metallic Edge Ribbon and used my Dark Poppy Parade Blend to color it, both front and back. It took no time at all and dried almost instantly. I tied the ribbon around the middle of the matte and then adhered the matte to a 4.75 x 6" Granny Apple Green card front using Dimensionals.

The sentiment, from the Enjoy Life stamp set, was stamped on Basic Black with Versamark (I made sure to use my Embossing Buddy before stamping to avoid any stray embossing powder.) and then heat embossed with White Stampin' Emboss Powder. I trimmed it down with a pair of scissors and then it was adhered with Dimensionals.

As a final touch for the front of the card, I used a die from the Petals & More Thinlits to die cut some leaves from the now retired Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer paper. I used Glue Dots to attach this under the ribbon.

For the matte inside the card, I simply matted a piece of Thick Whisper White with Basic Black card stock and then used liquid adhesive to glue three leaves, die cut from Poppy Parade card stock, to the matte before adhering it inside the card.

Today's project is actually in two parts; I used Jennifer McGuire's wonderful Edge Stamping Trick to create two cards. One I will detail today, the other you will get to read about in tomorrow's post.

I had planned to snap photos of my use of the Stamparatus for this technique but realized, when I was coloring, that I hadn't! I plan to use this technique in the near future so I will try to remember to do it then.

Before trying this technique with the Stamparatus, you will need to watch Jennifer's video. She uses the MISTI for her stamp positioning tool and it is slightly larger than our Stamparatus.The technique is still possible though, due to the open sides of our Stamparatus, paper can easily extend out the side allowing for more flexibility when stamping.

To begin, I positioned two, 4 x 5.25" mattes of Thick Whisper White into the Stamparatus. I used the tool so that it opened toward the left. Both mattes were butted up against the hinge (left) side and against the bottom hinge. This left the top matte extending out the top slightly.

I added a magnet and then positioned my leaf cluster stamp so that it overlapped the corners of both mattes on the right side of the Stamparatus. Because the stamp would be offset, I used the piece of Stampin' Up Grid Paper that I had laminated, under the mattes so that I could easily clean up after stamping.

The stamp was inked with Stazon and then I stamped both mattes at the same time. I then removed the magnet, turned each matte around 180 degrees and replaced them in the Stamparatus and stamped again. This allowed me to stamp the two opposing corners of each matte.

I then removed the stamp, cleaned it, repositioned both my mattes and stamp to allow me to stamp the remaining two corners of each matte in the same manner.

When I was finished, I had two identical mattes, stamped in all four corners with leaf clusters. Though I only created two stamped mattes, this could easily be done for several cards at a time. Remember this when it comes time to create your Christmas cards!

I set one of the mattes aside for my second card. Once the ink was dry, I used Watercolor Pencils to add color to the leaves and used Wink of Stella to blend them. To do this I would take one pencil crayon and scribble (hard) in various areas of the leaf. This was repeated with all the colors I wanted to use. I then used the Wink of Stella to color over the colors, blending them together and giving them a wonderful sparkle! I so wish that you could see the lovely sparkle that Wink of Stella provides—it is magical!

After my leaves were colored, I stamped the sentiment on Merry Merlot and die cut it using the #3 oval in the Stitched Shapes Framelits. I used the #5 scalloped oval from the Layering Ovals to cut a matte from Copper Foil. (See my Numbered Die Sets.) While I was at it, I cut three copper leaves and a matte to go behind the colored leaves. The last die cut used the middle size of the stitched shapes from the Blended Seasons Bundle to cut a stitched shape from Merry Merlot.

Both liquid adhesive and Dimensionals were used to assemble the sentiment and mattes. Before adhering the colored leaves matte to the copper one, I used a Basic Black Stampin' Write Marker to run around the edge of the matte to mimic a very thin black matte. This made the matte "pop" more from the on top of the copper one. A length of the Copper Trim was added behind the matte before adhering to the card front.

Dimensionals were used to adhere the mattes to a 4.75 x 6" Merry Merlot card front and then the die cut leaves were adhered using a little bit of Glossy Accents.

For the matte inside the card, The Stamparatus was used in stamping the leaf cluster, repeatedly, on the Thick Whisper White matte. To do this, I inked up areas of the stamp with sponge daubers, and stamped, repeating the process to get the multicolored effect on the leaves. The edges of the matte were also sponged with inks before adhering inside the card.

I love how the Copper Foil pairs with the Merry Merlot!

When I decided to purchase the Stitched Seasons Bundle, I knew that I would create a card using Jennifer McGuire's Stacked Die Cutting Technique. The three stitched dies lend themselves perfectly toward this technique!

I also wanted to revisit the Stamping With Water Technique that I used in my Timeless Textures Thank You post and thought that the Tropical Chic set would be perfect for this.

After visiting my Color Schemes Pinterest Board I chose the following for my tropical color scheme:

I decided to use a 4.75 x 6" card size to accommodate the largest stitched die so I began by cutting a Shaded Spruce card base and then three 4.75 x 6" mattes–Watercolor paper, Bermuda Bay, and Pacific Point.

Before I could die cut the mattes, I had to do the Stamping With Water Technique on the Watercolor paper. I grabbed a sponge and my Granny Apple Green stamp pad and went to town applying color to the matte. I gave it two coats so there was a good deep color. Next, I covered the whole thing with Shaded Spruce, again using lots of ink.

After giving it a few minutes to completely dry I chose the large leaf from the Tropical Chic stamp set and after mounting it on a block, I spritzed the stamp with water being sure it was covered with a fine mist but not too much water to destroy the detail in the stamp.

I placed the stamp on the inked matte and held it in place firmly for about 15-20 seconds. I found that the new ink formulation seems to require a longer time to remove the top layer of ink with the water-spritzed stamp. I repeated the process several more times, focussing on the edges of the matte. I switched out to the palm leaf and continued until I was happy with the result.

While waiting for the matte to dry, I laid out my three stitched dies on a clear plate on top of the Magnetic Platform. After positioning them, I used Purple Tape to hold the dies in position and then removed them from the plate.

I used my heat tool to finish drying the inked matte and then laid all three of the dies over the matte on the Magnetic Platform and ran it through the Big Shot. Because I was cutting with all three dies at the same time, I ended up with a large opening in my matte and two stitched frames as well as a small stitched shape!

After carefully removing the largest stitched die from the taped together dies, I next die cut the Bermuda Bay matte. To be sure I die cut in the proper place, I placed the inked die cut matte over top and placed my dies in the opening. I then carefully removed the inked matte before running the Bermuda Bay matte through the Big Shot.

Lastly, I used the one remaining die to die cut the Pacific Point matte, using the Bermuda Bay matte as a guide to line up the position of the die. I set aside the extra frames and shapes, that resulted, for use in future projects.

For the sentiment, I cut a 3.5 x 4" piece of Thick Whisper White and stamped the sentiment from the Cake Soiree Stamp Set using Shaded Spruce and then adhered it behind the Pacific Point matte using Foam Adhesive Strips and also adhered it to the card front. I then used Dimensionals to attach both the Bermuda Bay and the inked matte to the card front. So much dimension!

I stamped flowers in Bermuda Bay and Pacific Point and the large leaf was stamped with Pacific Point on Bermuda Bay. These stamped images were all die cut; as well, two palm leaves were die cut from Granny Apple Green. Crystal Effects and Dimensionals were used to adhere the die cuts in a cluster on the card front. As I was sending the card in a large, padded envelope, I did not worry that the palm leaves extended past the card front a little bit.

Rhinestones were added to the flower centres and a few of the clear circles from the now retired Glitter & Clear Epoxy Shapes were scattered around to resemble water droplets on the leaves.

The largest stitched die was used to die cut a piece of Thick Whisper White. Flowers were stamped as well as the sentiment from the Blended Seasons stamp set and then the shape was adhered inside to complete the card.

Holiday Catalog 2018 Sneak Preview: Winter Woods Christmas

Whoopee! UPS delivered my pre-order before 7:30 this morning and since I had the day off, you know what I was doing . . . cleaning . . . NOT!

For my first Christmas card of the season, I picked to work with the Winter Woods. What is it about trees that we all seem to love?

I loved the stark quality of the bare branched trees and I stamped them on a piece of Soft Suede. This was matted with Basic Black card stock and then the sentiment was also stamped and die cut using the #3 oval in the Stitched Shapes Framelits. (See my Numbered Die Sets.) It was also matted with Basic Black using the #6 oval from the Layering Ovals Framelits.

A Real Red matte was embossed with the always elegant Tufted Embossing Folder. It was adhered to a craft foam matte for stability and then to a 5 x7" Soft Suede card base.

I placed some Fast Fuse on the back of the trees matte and then layered on a piece of the exquisite Black Glittered Organdy Ribbon. I'll definitely be purchasing more of that! The matte was adhered to the card front using Dimensionals with the sentiment layered on top of that.

A sprinkling of the now retired Black Rhinestones was added for some extra glitz.

A Very Vanilla matte was added inside with a stamping of the same trees, but they were stamped off three times.

Sponging And The Tropical Chic Bundle

Sitting down to play in my craft room today I was drawn, once again, to work with the Tropical Chic Bundle. I was inspired by a card designed by Vicki Papaioannou.

I started by cutting a square of Watercolor paper slightly bigger than the square die found in the Tropical Thinlits Dies. I chose to work with Watercolor paper instead of Whisper White because I find it more forgiving when sponging.

Granny Apple Green was sponged over the whole piece and then I sponged wide edges with Garden Green, followed by some Crumb Cake.

The watercolor paper was die cut using the square die with the palm leaves. It should be noted that this die does not cut the square edge around the piece itself; this was die cut using the #9 square from the Layering Squares Framelits. (See my Numbered Die Sets.) Due to the sponging of the piece prior to die cutting, the resulting leaves had a very dimensional look, possessing both shadows and highlights and gradations of color.

A 4.75 x 6" Crumb Cake card front was cut and I used sponges with both Crumb Cake and Soft Suede to ink it after carefully masking off the back of the card base using Post It Notes.

Granny Apple Green was selected for the matte and was embossed using the Layered Leaves Embossing Folder. (This embossing folder makes a great tie in with the Tropical Chic Bundle!) The edges of the matte were sponged with both Granny Apple Green and Garden Green. It was adhered to the card front using a piece of fun foam to provide even dimension across the card.

Next, I cut a Crumb Cake matte to go behind the green die cut. The the die cut was glued on top using liquid adhesive. The completed matte was adhered to the card front using Dimensionals.

I used sponges to color two more pieces of Watercolor paper and then on one, stamped the sentiment using Versamark. This was heat embossed using Gold Stampin' Emboss Powder and then die cut using the outline die for the palm branch. The other piece was used to die cut a palm branch and large palm leaf. All die cuts were sponged with Garden Green and a touch of Soft Suede inks.

The sentiment and two other die cuts were adhered to the card front using Dimensionals. For a little added interest, some of the now retired Glitter & Clear Epoxy Shapes were adhered.

For inside the card, I used another piece of Watercolor paper and stamped it repeatedly with the palm branch stamp using Garden Green. I then added a few stamps of the same branch using Granny Apple Green. The edges were sponged with both Granny Apple Green and Garden Green before adhering the matte using liquid adhesive.

I was able to crack open the Tropical Escape DSP for an anniversary card for my husband.

After embossing a Thick Whisper White matte with the Tufted Embossing Folder I adhered it to a thin Shaded Spruce matte.

Another matte was cut from the Tropical Escape DSP and it was adhered to a 4.75 x 6" Granny Apple Green card base. The tufted matte was adhered to the card front using Dimensionals.

The palm leaves were die cut from Granny Apple Green and Shaded Spruce. The flowers were stamped with Calypso Coral and die cut.

I stamped the sentiment, from the Abstract Impressions Stamp Set, with Versamark on Shaded Spruce and heat embossed with White Stampin' Emboss Powder. It was die cut using the #3 circle from the Stitched Shapes Framelits. (See Numbered Die Sets.) The leaves and flowers were clustered around the sentiment and all were adhered using Dimensionals.

A Whisper White matte was stamped with Shaded Spruce, stamped off, and then adhered to the inside of the card.

Yesterday I shared a wreath card with you, built using wreath builder templates. The card I have for you today was intended to be another wreath but my stamping got a little out of hand and turned into DSP!

Like yesterday, I started with a 4 x 4" piece of Thick Whisper White and my Gina K. Designs Wreath Builder Templates. Because I already had these, I didn't feel the need to recreate my own. If you need your own templates, check out my Tropical Chic Wreath Card for links to tutorials for creating your own templates.

I taped the 4 x 4" template into my Stamparatus using Washi Tape and then set in my Whisper White. I used the flower from Colorful Seasons to stamp with Gorgeous Grape to form the initial wreath shape, placing my stamp at a corner, about 1/2" from each side. I then used stamps from the Love What You Do stamp set to fill in the rest of the design using both Bermuda Bay and Shaded Spruce.

The sentiment, from the stamp set that comes in the Darling Label Punch Box, was stamped on Shaded Spruce and heat embossed with White Stampin' Emboss Powder. It was then die cut using the #5 circle from Layering Circles Framelits and a matte was cut using the #5 scalloped circle. (Be sure to check out my Numbered Die Sets.)

The stamped piece was mounted on a thin Shaded Spruce matte. I decided then to add in some actual die cut pieces so used both Sweet Cake Framelits and Petals & More Thinlits with Bermuda Bay and Silver Glimmer. These pieces were arranged on top and then glued before adding the sentiment with Dimensionals.

A 4.75 x 6" card base was cut from Shaded Spruce and a matte from Gorgeous Grape. The matte was embossed using the new Subtles Embossing Folder. This is a wonderful folder for adding just a hint of texture but its use can take a card from "ok" to "WOW!" You'll definitely want to add it to your collection!

Before adhering the matte to the card front, and for a little more glitz, a length of silver ribbon, from the now retired Glitter Ribbon Combo Pack, was tied in a bow around the matte.The matte was then adhered to the card front with Dimensionals and the stamped piece on top.

A Whisper White matte was stamped with a few branches and flowers and then sponged with a little Highland Heather before adhering inside the card.

Today I enjoyed a wonderful day off playing in my craft room!

Inspired by a post by Jennifer McGuire in my email this morning, I decided to do some wreath making. In making my wreath, I used the Gina K. Designs Wreath Builder Templates. Since I already had these, I decided to not reinvent the wheel by creating my own but there are several tutorials for doing just that. There is one by Narelle, Pixie's Crafty Workshop, and Jane Allmark. All the templates are designed to work with a stamp positioner such as the MISTI or the Stamparatus.

I began by cutting a 4" square of Thick Whisper White and positioned it within my template inside my Stamparatus. I chose the little palm leaf from the Tropical Chic stamp set. A positioned the stamp in the corner of my paper and stamped it in Granny Apple Green. I rotated two places, and stamped again. I repeated this until I had four stamped palms.

After cleaning my stamp, I positioned my paper so that the stamp would now stamp between the existing palm leaves and this time used Garden Green ink.

I liked this wreath as sis but decided that some flowers would b a nice addition. Unfortunately, the flower in Tropical Chic was much too big so I settled on the tiny flower grouping from the Love What You Do stamp set. I positioned them to fall between the palm leaves and stamped them using Calypso Coral. I die cut a circle in the middle of the wreath using one of the Layering Circle Dies but then decided to place a die cut instead of stamping in the centre of the wreath.

I stamped the sentiment from the Darling Label Punch Box using Granny Apple Green on Thick Whisper White and die cut it using the #2 circle die from the Stitched Shapes Framelits. To matte this circle, I used the #5 scalloped circle from the Layering Circles Dies to die cut from Garden Green.

The 4 x 4" wreath was matted with Garden Green. The matted sentiment was adhered to its centre using Dimensionals.

I cut a matte from the Tropical Chic DSP and adhered it to a Garden Green card front. I used a sponge to color the backs of two of the Pearlized Doilies using Calypso Coral. After snipping each in half, I adhered them with a bit of Fast Fuse to the front of the matte and then adhered the wreath on top using Dimensionals.

On a Whisper White matte for the inside, I stamped some palm leaves and then sponged the edges with Calypso Coral before adhering the matte to complete the card.

Though the palm leaves are stamped, not die cut, I think they look almost 3D! Anyway, I like how this turned out. I hope you will give wreath building a play!

Home Life For A New Home

Last year, when my daughter started talking about buying a house, I purchased the Home Life Bundle, just waiting for the moment when I could create a card to celebrate their purchase. Finally, they found the perfect house this spring and they moved in on the 14th!

Because I was using a retired product, I decided to update it by using new Stampin' Up colors.

I started by using the house die framelit to die cut the house. I kept both the house piece and the negative of the cut and placed them in my Stamparatus, placing the magnets on the negative piece. By doing this, I was easily able to line up the three separate house stamps on the house die cut.

Each stamp was positioned on a separate side or plate of the Stamparatus, allowing me to easily stamp the three different stamps, one after the other. However, they do take some lining up so it is best to stamp and then line up the next stamp on another side of the Stamparatus. The house is held in place by the "frame" created with the negative space from the house die.

I stamped on Thick Whisper White, using Blueberry Bushel, Granny Apple Green, and Lovely Lipstick. I stamped a second time on another piece using the Blueberry Bushel so that I could die cut some of the flowers to pop up on the house.

After removing the stamps, I used the Stamparatus again to stamp first the banner and then the sentiment on the banner using Lovely Lipstick. This was then die cut using the matching die.

A Granny Apple Green matte was cut and then embossed using the Tufted Embossing Folder. It was adhered to a very thin Blueberry Bushel matte. This was then adhered with Dimensionals to a 4.75 x 6" Granny Apple Green card front.

The flowers on the house were die cut and popped up on the house using Dimensionals and then the house itself was adhered to the card front using Dimensionals. The sentiment was adhered over top of the house.

A sentiment for inside the card was stamped on Thick Whisper White using Lovely Lipstick and then the edges were sponged with the same ink. The matte was then adhered with liquid adhesive.

The flower pot was die cut from Blueberry Bushel and sponged and detailed using both Night of Navy ink and the matching marker. The flowers were die cut from Whisper White and colored using markers and then glued behind the pot. The pot was then adhered inside the card to complete it.

I hope my daughter likes it! I'm planning to mail it to her so that it will be the first mail she gets at the new house!

Have you tried embossing using the new Big Shot Embossing Mats?

Some of the new dies from Stampin' Up are made only for embossing, like some of the leaves in the Nature's Roots Framelits Dies, but you can emboss with regular cutting dies as well. Talk about increasing the versatility of your dies and getting more bang for your buck!

Stampin' Up has a video that details how to use the Big Shot Embossing Mats. The video explains how to create the proper "sandwich" for embossing with dies.

I found the Stampin' Up recommended sandwich a little cumbersome because it involves placing the die face up with the paper to be embossed on top. To me, this annoys me because I can't see where my die is! Luckily I found a video by Rachel Tessman where she shows how she flips the sandwich so that the die is placed on top of the paper with the cutting side down.

Rachel's method will be used with my card today.

I started by cutting a standard card base from Pacific Point and I also cut a matte of the same color. While I had my trimmer handy, I also cut a piece of the gorgeous Garden Impressions DSP and a thin Calypso Coral matte.

Next, I took my Pacific Point matte and the large flowered die from the Springtime Impressions Thinlits. My Big Shot sandwich was like this:

Now, because every Big Shot is a little different, I found that part of my embossing was very well defined and part wasn't so I made sure to reposition my die on top of my card stock and then turned the whole sandwich 180 degrees around (not over) before rolling it through my Big Shot.

After running it through this second time, my embossing looked great all over! When I emboss again in the future, I will run through, turn 180 degrees and run it through again just to be sure everything is good!

After embossing, I adhered the matte to the card front using liquid adhesive. The DSP was also matted on the Calypso Coral. A faux bow was added (run a strip of Tear & Tape and top with a length of ribbon and then attach a bow on top with a Glue Dot) using the now retired Shimmer Ribbon Combo Pack. The matte was then adhered to the card front using Dimensionals.

The sentiment, from the Abstract Impressions Stamp Set, was stamped on Calypso Coral with Pacific Point and then cut with the Tailored Tag Punch. It was attached with Dimensionals.

Three tiny flowers were die cut from Pacific Point and adhered using liquid adhesive. Rhinestones were added to their centres to complete the card.

I hope you will try embossing with your dies—it opens up even more possibilities for card making!

Follow Your Dreams Joy Fold Card

For this joy fold card, I started with a standard card base in Early Espresso but then trimmed the front piece to 2.125 x 5.5".

The little card on top, also Early Espresso, is 4 x 5.5" folded in half. The front flap and inside back section of the main card was topped with Wood Textures DSP.

For the little card, a piece of Wood Textures DSP was cut in strips and each sponged with Early Espresso and then adhered to the card front. Very Vanilla mattes ,for the inside, were sponged with Soft Suede and the sentiment stamped and embossed with gold as well as Early Espreso.

The dreamcatcher was stamped with Versamark on Early Espresso and heat embossed with gold and then die cut. A ring of Early Espresso was die cut to lay over top of the dreamcatcher and then finally a smaller dreamcatcher was die cut from Gold Foil and adhered on top.

The smaller card was adhered to the card front with the dreamcatcher adhered on top with Dimensionals. The word "dream" was cut out 4X from Early Espresso and once from Gold Foil. They were stacked and adhered and then glued to the front left of the card.

A smaller feather was die cut from foil and adhered to the inside to complete the card.

Sea of Textures Double Easel

Has this ever happened to you?

For days, maybe even weeks, you have been combing Pinterest, pinning cards that utilize a particular stamp set in amazing ways. You order the set and sit down to create a masterpiece only to end up with a card that looks like . . . well, you know.

For me, the stamp set/bundle in question was Sea of Textures. I sat down with it a number of times after receiving it only to be disappointed in my results.

Finally, today I created a card that I deemed worthy of showing. In designing this card, I decided to create my design using a fancy fold Double Easel card. Patty Bennett has a wonderful tutorial and measurements for this card fold.

I started by cutting a 4.25 x 11" vertical card base from Mint Macaron, scored at 5.5". The Tranquil Tide matte to go on top was cut at 4 x 10.25" and scored at both 2.5" and 5". Two sheets of Tranquil Textures DSP was cut to fit the matte in dimensions of 3.75 x 5" and two different patterns at 3.75 x 2.25".

I used Tranquil Tide to stamp the octopus on Thick Whisper White. I also stamped the sentiment on Tranquil Tide card stock using Versamark and heat embossed it using Silver Stampin' Emboss Powder.

The octopus was die cut using the coordinating dies and then sentiment was die cut using the #2 oval from the Stitched Shapes Framelits. The #4 oval from the Layering Ovals was used to die cut a Mint Macaron matte. The net was die cut from Silver Glimmer paper after removing the backing. (This was a very difficult cut. I had to repeatedly run the die through the Big Shot and turn the panels around and run it through again. However, I am pleased that it finally worked as I needed that sparkly bit!)

I used Wink of Stella on my Octopus to add some fun shimmer. The now retired Distressing Tool was used on both the Mint Macaron matte for the sentiment and the card base itself. The mattes and DSP were adhered to the card base using liquid adhesive.

Fast Fuse was used to lay down a patch of adhesive for the net and then both the Octopus and sentiment were adhered using Dimensionals.

On a matte of Very Vanilla, I repeatedly stamped the seaweed in Tranquil Tide and then used Night of Navy, stamped off, to stamp the octopus offset. I used Mint Macaron to stamp the netting around the card and then used both Mint Macaron and Night of Navy to ink the edges of the matte before adhering it inside the card.

Check out the shimmer on the octopus!

Whew! It was a lot of work (counting the cards that didn't work out) but I'm so pleased with the results! I also really like the color combo in this card. Feel free to save the color combo for your own projects.
