PBC Linear brings in a new solution to low profile tasks and applications: the Low Profile Uni-Guide. A economical expansion of the popular Uni-Guide family, the LP Uni-Guide allocates the performance advantages of the larger designs—self-lubricating, maintenance-free, easy assembly—into a compact, 24 mm profile for smooth, reliable and long-lasting linear motion in print/scan, food processing and machine tool applications.

The Uni-Guide family utilizes the proven plane bearing technology of Simplicity®, which allows the carriage to glide smoothly along the slide. The proprietary Frelon liner ensures safe travel over dirt, dust, grime and other particulates without damaging the rail or carriage. Maintenance-free and self-lubricating, the Uni-Guide products require no additional grease or oil and thrive in applications where contamination must be prevented: food processing, lab automation and medical equipment.

Comprised of a simple, two-piece rail and carriage assembly, Uni-Guide products facilitate quick system integration without the mounting components and alignment necessitated by other linear slide products. These competing products, such as re-circulating ball or polymer insert linear slides, use assemblies with multiple rails and components, and require painstaking alignment to ensure uniform parallelism across all assembled rails and carriages. The Uni-Guide family promotes ease of installation by machining two parallel rails in one profile. The one-piece carriage design also simplifies assembly by directly fitting onto the rail without fasteners—saving the end user on cost and reducing tolerance stack-up.

To ensure precision tolerances are maintained, the rail and carriage of the Low Profile Uni-Guide are machined by our patent pending SIMO® process. SIMO uses a synchronized tooling system to mill all critical edges concurrently—creating consistently tight tolerances that hold within ±0.001’’ (0.025 mm) for assured high accuracy travel.

SIMO® also produces specially angled edges along the LP Uni-Guide rail to support clean wash-down without chemical pooling. The angled edges also work with the overall design of the LP Uni-Guide to prevent any contamination from accumulating in the assembly. This makes the LP Uni-Guide a perfect design selection for food processing tasks.

Available with hand-brakes for quick manual adjustment and positioning, extended carriages for enhanced load dispersion and standard tap holes for mounting ease, the Low-Profile Uni-Guide is a versatile product that can be tailored to meet the customers’ needs.

Aerotech’s PRO LM series of high performance, cost-effective and versatile linear motor stages are offered in four different series with 38 different models in travels from 100 mm to 1.5 m. The PRO165LM, PRO225LM, PRO280LM, and PRO560LM make up the Aerotech PRO LM series of linear motor stages. They all feature a linear motion guide bearing system and high-performance brushless linear servomotor to make them the stage of choice in industrial applications such as laser machining, medical component manufacturing, and other applications requiring precise, smooth motion in a production environment.

Ultra-Smooth, Precise Motion
Aerotech’s high-power, cog-free linear motors drive the PRO LM series. The non-magnetic forcer coil provides high force with zero cogging for ultra-smooth velocity and position control. This zero-cogging design is ideal for applications requiring outstanding contour accuracy and smooth velocity profiling. Aerotech’s linear motor stages have zero backlash, no windup, and outstanding system responsiveness. The magnetic field of the linear motor is totally self-contained within the U-channel design, making these stages well-suited for high-performance applications that cannot tolerate the stray magnetic fields generated by flat motor magnet tracks.

Noncontact linear encoders with micron-level repeatabilities are standard on all PRO LM series stages. Either a line-driver output or amplified sine-wave output encoder is available. The optional HALAR factory calibration further increases the standard accuracy and repeatability.

Construction Features
Sealed linear motion guide bearings with integral wipers are incorporated to provide excellent payload capacity and long life. Both the metal waycover and tabletop are treated with a hardcoat that is scratch-resistant and provides outstanding protection in the harshest applications, while the tabletop utilizes stainless steel Helicoil™ inserts to protect mounting holes against thread wear. Several tabletop options are available for metric or English mounting, as well as for direct interface with our popular ADRS, ADRT, and AGR rotary stages. In addition, configurable cable management options are available for single- or multi-axis systems.

Han-Kwang (www.hankwangus.com) is proud to introduce a new Series PS, specifically the Model PS 3015, which is a short-gantry, two-dimensional flying-optic laser system that can handle 60″ wide x 120″ long workpieces. The short-gantry arrangement is designed to enhance the user’s vision on the machine, while the series’ more compact design facilitates a high level of regulation during the cutting process.

The Model PS 3015 is designed with a rapid single axis speed of 4724ipm, simultaneous 7900ipm speed in X-Y axis, driven by two servos on the gantry, and a maximum cutting speed of 1181ipm, with positioning accuracies much better compared with +/-0.004″ per 118″ of travel and repeatability to 0.001″. To maintain optimum productivity during processing, a dual shuttle pallet system is also onboard.

The laser system from Han-Kwang has a Panasonic CO2 laser resonator in 2.5KW, 4KW and 6KW versions, and a patented beam radius control that optimizes the beam diameter for several thickness variations and material substrates, leading to enhanced part quality.

It also features a plasma monitoring unit that constantly tracks cut errors to reduce out-of-tolerance conditions during the cutting cycle, as well as a built-in lens crack sensor that monitors the state of lens contamination. Instant alerts are also sent through the onboard Siemens CNC to provide users and maintenance personnel immediate alarm notifications.

All machine laser cutting operations and mechanical movements are controlled by the powerful SINUMERIK 840D CNC from Siemens. An optional rotary axis is also available for tube cutting up to 12″ OD with the laser system.

Exlar Corporation (www.exlar.com) is proud to introduce its latest linear actuators for the six degree-of-freedom motion bases in a South Korean museum theater for four-dimensional (4D) entertainment.

South Korea’s Gridspace Corporation chose the I-Series actuators from Exlar over ball screw actuators for the demanding application in order to meet several motion simulation requirements. These motion bases require servo control for smooth and precise positioning, accuracy and repeatability, as well as overall long life. The I-Series actuator provides machine users the flexibility to mount any motor into the actuator.

Exlar’s I Series Linear actuators feature many benefits. These include multiple stroke lengths, high cycle rates, wide variety of mounting styles, repeatable and accurate positioning, less noise compared to other motion technologies and millions of cycles without maintenance and re-lubrication. The series also has roller screws that offer up to 15 times longer life compared to ball screws. The actuators also use up less energy compared to fluid power with electric actuation.

The roller screw technology from Exlar was selected over alternative solutions and it can deliver the strict requirements needed for a successful simulator applications.

EPCOR Utilities Inc. (www.epcor.ca) has resolved an expensive, high-maintenance problem that involves pump wear during the de-chlorination process in water treatment plants located at Edmonton.

The EL Smith Water Treatment Plant can produce up to 400 million liters of drinking water per day. In order to conform to new environmental regulations, the site has installed a de-chlorination process that involves injection of sodium bisulphate into the residual water, which is returned to the river following the treatment process.

The process of de-chlorination improves the plant’s environmental performance, and EPCOR was eager to introduce similar process at its Rossdale Plant, which has a 280 ML/D drinking water treatment capacity.

However, the Canadian plant is using a series of pumps that require considerable maintenance because of excessive wear on its soft rubber internal parts.

Several process specialists from Stantec have proposed to replace the pumps with control valves by using CVA electric control valve actuator from Rotork. The device has a fail-to-position capability and manual override for the de-chlorination chemical injection control.

Therefore, EPCOR has proceeded with a pilot plant located at EL Smith to test the CVA operated control valves and their response in the designed operating range.

The Bauman 24000SB Series valves at EL Smith have been mounted with three Rotork model CVL-500 linear actuators. One actuator, which is operating in the main plant, is replacing a pump placed beside an existing unit.

Two other valves are also mounted in a test loop with the same split range configuration to handle flows that range from 0.0138 liters/minute to 30.6523 liters/minute.

Both valves will have Cv of 0.1 and 2.5, respectively. These CVA actuators are programmed to adjust the position of the valve in response to flow meter data gathered from the residual water flow line.

Nook Industries (www.nookindustries.com) is proud to introduce the new NIA ACME and Ball Screw Series Linear Actuators that provide compact size configuration and improved IP65 protection options against solid (airborne, dust particles, etc.) and liquid (water spray, rain, etc.) elements. The product is a cost-efficient series designed for light-duty outdoor/indoor applications, including aggregate/agriculture (packaging, dampers in rock quarries, etc.), amongst others.

All of the series are designed to deliver International Protection (IP) rating against levels of water/dust intrusion as an optional enhanced IP65 and standard IP54 protection class. The high-IP ratings were achieved through the use of several design elements, which include powder metallurgy gears, steel extension tube and aluminum alloy housing.

The new series features a standard 110/115/230 VAC single-phase split capacitive motor, delivering a 25-percent duty cycle, as well as an external capacitor. Other standard performance characteristics for ACME and Ball Screw versions include stroke lengths from 4in to 24in, working temperature of -26°C to +65°C, dynamic load capacity of 1,500lbs and less, overload protection by clutch, and self-locking. Adjustable limit switches and optional potentiometer feedback are also available to extend the added-value for unique applications on the two versions.

Nook Industries also offers its ND8 Ball Screw Series as a 12/24V DC Motor option that can deliver similar key design variables with the addition of stroke length of 100mm to 600mm and 65mm/sec maximum speed, with no back driving.
