Tennessee Titans - The Run Is Sending The Message

2020-10-21T12:49:00.001-07:00

The rushing from the titans is still a problem for defenses.

The power running from Henry is making defenders think about how to bring him down.

The stiff arm sent a message to the defenders around the league that Henry is not playing around when it comes to picking up yards. It is really tough being a defensive player these days. They didn't call that unnecessary roughness.

The 49ers are a surprise this year

2019-10-21T09:28:00.002-07:00

Are the 49ers for real? This is the real question that people are asking. They are starting to get the wins. They might just be better than a lot of the competition.

The defense for the 49ers is starting to really show up. Teams try to go for it on 4th down, and the 49ers defense has been able to come up big.

The running game for the 49ers has shown to be effective. They have multiple backs that can break out at any time. Establishing a solid running game can really wear down a defense and break their will. The niners have been doing this during the season.

The passing game for the 49ers has also been up to par. Jimmy G still seems to be having issues placing the ball from time to time, but he seems to be getting back on track.

The only big issue with the 49ers might be some strange play calling in certain situations. They seem to take chances when they don't need to do it. Inside the 10 yard line, they are making some play calls that might raise some eyebrows. Instead of running the ball, they do pass plays. Instead of running straight ahead, they try to get cute with runs that go side to side. Every play is not going to work, but sometimes, it might help to just keep it simple.

The niners are continuing to rack up wins. Sometimes, they win pretty and other times they win ugly. The main point is they are on a winning streak. Right now, you have to wonder who will knock them off. The Washington redskins stayed close pretty much the whole game.

The main point moving forward for the niners is staying healthy and keeping up the good work.

Niners win, but it was kind of sketchy

2015-11-09T09:02:00.000-08:00

Blaine Gabbert is the new starting quarterback. Just watching the game against the falcons revealed a lot.

The first thing that popped out was the lack of pressure that got to Gabbert. I was really racking my brain on how the offensive line was able to easily protect Gabbert, but they could not do the same for Kap.

The second thing that jumped out was the how easy Gabbert was able to complete passes to completely wide open tight ends in the red zone. It looked like Atlanta decided not to cover 2 tight ends in the red zone.

Gabbert got sacked on a blitz, but he looked really great overall for the day. I did notice that when Kap came in, he hit his receiver with ball and he dropped it. Gabbert should have had better numbers, but he also go some drops from the receivers.

The niners made sure to keep Gabbert in the game even after that massive hit. Kap came in and they immediately went to commercial to get him out of the game. It seems like he is getting the RGIII on his way out of town.

It will be interesting to see if they start Gabbert against the Seattle Seahawks defense. Will they let him get beat up or will they put Kap back in to take that punishment and solidify the decision to move on to Gabbert.

Just listening to the radio and reading some of the football websites makes me come away with the feeling like Kap is going to take the blame for this season.

I just hope he gets a chance to start again with another team. With some quarterbacks , they don't get another option after being removed as a starter.

After seeing all the stuff play out over the last couple of years, I am finally coming to the conclusion that it is not worth it to be invested in these football games anymore.

Gabbert will not fix the 49ers

2015-11-02T09:11:00.004-08:00

The 49ers never fixed the line when everybody knew it was a problem. This tells a lot. Now, the stories coming from the media are all negative on the qb. It looks like he will be taking the blame for the poor season.

It was really shocking to see how quick the tide can turn. The team was in the superbowl a few years ago and now they are probably the worst team in the nfl.

The trade deadline is coming up soon and it will be interesting to see if they ship out players like vernon davis. Watching the 49ers this season has really been tough.

One bright side is that you have to sit back and remember that you don't own the team. You don't have a financial interest and you should not have an emotional attachment. It is their team and they can do what they want with it. They really destroyed it from one year to the next.

Just imagine that you had a brand new mercedes s550 and then you decided to pour water into the gas tank and you sold off all the brand new rims for bald tires with no tread.

Now they are talking about Blaine Gabbert like he is Joe Montana or something. If the 49ers don't fix the offensive line ( just watch and see if that is the first move after putting in Gabbert ), Gabbert will be getting sacked a lot as well.

Kap or Gabbert - Does it really matter with a bad offensive line?

2015-10-08T13:04:00.001-07:00

The 49ers offense has been horrible. Did you really expect anything different? Now, all the talk is about benching quarterback Colin Kaepernick. You can turn on any talk show or pull up any website and see everybody saying that he needs to be benched. He is not playing great, but all the commentators are ignoring the big elephant in the room....The offensive line. They are not blocking and people are just looking right past this important part of the offensive game plan.

Colin is not delivering the ball to the right receivers at the right time. He is playing the quarterback position under duress every down. The defenders are piling into the box before the snap on just about every play. They know the weakness on the offensive line and they don't even feel threatened about showing that they are coming.

The niners organization seems to not care about the current starting quarterback. You don't hear them talking about bringing in new offensive lineman. You don't even hear them talking about shuffling any line players around. They are trying out other position players, but it doesn't really matter. The niners org should be concerned about letting their starting qb take the number of sacks that he is getting from week to week.

There has been a lot of change during the offseason and now it seems like all the blame is landing on the shoulders of number 7. It will be really interesting to see if they pull the plug on Kaepernick starting and turn the ball over to Gabbert. The real kicker would seeing them change the offensive line after sitting down Kap. I hope that Kap can do something to turn this around, but it just seems like the media campaign and the poor blocking up front are going to be hard to contain. It is also funny that I cannot remember a time during the Alex Smith years that they ever talked about benching him, cutting him or trading him and he was a complete disaster. It just goes to show how quick the tide can change in the nfl. Kap took the niners to a superbowl and now they are talking about taking the starting qb job. Wow. Kap really needs to focus and make every pass count in the coming weeks.

Keeping the bright side of things

2015-09-30T15:46:00.002-07:00

The niners are not playing their greatest football right now, but at least we are in football season. The days of waiting for the weekends to be filled up with games are now gone. So even if the 49ers are going to be losing lots of games this year because of all the departures, it is still better than nothing.

The saturdays and sundays of college football and professional football will still have some upsides and downsides even if your favorite team is taking it on the chin. The other games don't matter as much, but you still have some exciting games to look forward to.

The Horror

2015-09-29T10:14:00.001-07:00

The 49ers don't look like they are trying to win anything any time soon. The last two weeks the games have just been too tough to watch completely. The secondary is soft. The offense cannot seem to block or throw the ball down the field. It is really like the wheels are falling off.

Was this all to be expected? The change from Jim Harbaugh and all the players retiring and leaving seems like it was too much in one offseason. Will the 49ers be able to turn this thing around before it is too late?

The conversations on the talk shows will soon start turning for who to blame. It looks like they are starting to point at number 7. Turning the ball over 4 times in one game is just not the business.

Why don't the 49ers front office address the problem that everyone can see? The right side of the line needs to be replaced with people that can protect. Until that wide open hole is plugged, it seems like nothing is going to turn into success.

With all the receiver and tight end talent, you would think the niners could get the ball to their playmakers, but it does not seem to be the case.

When the games start getting out of hand early, the simple solution is to turn the channel and not keep watching the horror. By half time the last two weeks the games have been over. Let's hope we don't have to keep on turning netflix at half time for the rest of the year.

Getting Ready for the Season

49ers Questions Rolling into the NFL Regular Season

2015-08-29T10:23:00.004-07:00

The 49ers defensive line looks pretty good, but it is only preseason. The team is still running into trouble with the off the field issues.

Will the 49ers be able to rise to the top of the nfc west or are they going to completely fall apart? The nfl regular season is fast approaching and the 49ers offense has not looked that great. The 49ers offense has added a new receiver in Torry Smith, but the question will be if Colin Kaepernick can get the ball to him. The other big question for the niner offense is the offensive line. They have had big changes and they need to protect and give time to Colin K.

On the defensive side of the ball, the niners secondary looks weak. The deep threat problem has been there for years and only time will tell if they are going to be able to tighten that up. The linebackers have changed dramatically over the last year. The pro bowl big names are gone and now there is a new group coming on to the field. Will they be able to stop the run? Will they be able to pressure the pocket?

The new 49ers have a lot of questions to answer going into the season. The bright spot so far in the preseason is the rugby player turned kick returner. Jarrod Hayne has been exciting to watch. The only question is going to be if he can keep up the high level of play that has been displayed in the preseason. The regular season kickoff teams are going to be much more intense.

Jacksonville Jaguars vs Detroit Lions

2015-08-29T07:07:00.000-07:00

The preseason nfl football game between the Detroit Lions and the Jacksonville Jaguars last night was entertaining.

Jacksonville jags made the right decision with Blake Bortles. The jacksonville quarterback was accurate on his passes and he had no problem tucking the ball and running for first downs. The one issue for Jacksonville is going to be the pass protection. There were a couple of plays that showed the tackle could be suspect. He got knocked back and exposed his quarterback. They might need to look for other solutions. During the regular season, teams will explore this potential weakness from the left side of the offensive line.

The Jacksonville Jags wideouts and tight ends were running open down the middle of the field and on the sidelines. They caught the ball when they were open and marched right down the field on Detroit.

The jaguars chewed up the nfl game clock with long, sustained drives. If this is how they are going to play during the nfl regular season schedule, they are going to be a team to watch.

The Detroit Lions also looked good during the preseason game with Jacksonville, but the secondary did look like it had holes in it. The corners and safeties in the defensive backfield are going to need to tighten up. The Detroit Lions pass rush also didn't seem to be effective in getting at the quarterback. People will start talking about the departure of Suh if this doesn't turn around during the regular season.

The Detroit Lions offense showed its power. Matt Stafford is solid at quarterback. They just need to make sure that he stays healthy. They were not playing all of its starters because this was a preseason game and they didn't really have anything to prove. The new rookie running back showed a peek of how fast and easy he could evade defenders. When all of the starting pieces of the Detroit Lions are on the field at the same time, they should be able to put up some big points on defenses.

49ers Surprise?

2015-08-09T08:25:00.002-07:00

Are the 49ers going to be really bad this year? I am just wondering because of all the turnover. They don't have the same head coach. They have had a lot of players retire or get released due to injury and other issues. There is just a lot of turnover that they will have to overcome.

The other teams in the division seem to have more stability. Seattle is coming off of a super bowl appearance. Arizona is coming on strong and the St. Louis Rams have made some improvements through trades and the draft. It just seems like the 49ers are moving in the wrong direction.

The one thing that we have to remember is that the games still have to be played. They still have to get on the field and play. It is just hard to look at the constant flow of information about the 49ers from the offseason and believe that they really have a chance in this division.

NFL Preseason 2015

2015-08-09T08:01:00.000-07:00

The nfl preseason kicks off today. It seems like it has been a long time since football has been played, and it feels good to see that it is finally back.

The 49ers have had bad news after more bad news. Just a few days ago, they released the pass rusher and defender Aldon Smith. The legal issues kept on happening and you knew it was just a matter of time before they got rid of him.

Now, the 49ers have to start this season with one more player gone from last year. It seems like they decided to just clean house. You could almost imagine on of those cheesy tv commercials from back in the 80's with a spokesman talking about everything must go.

Super Bowl Dumbest Play Ever

2015-02-06T15:31:00.001-08:00

What is wrong with the seattle staff? You are in the red zone and you have a great running back. You get inside 10 yard line, but you let the clock run down and you don't run the ball.

Seattle had a 10 point lead in the second half and they let it just evaporate. They run the 2 minute drill to perfection and on the 1 yard line, they want to throw a slant?

It just did not make sense. It was so clear that seattle was going to win the game. They just made a great catch to get into the red zone. Lynch ran the ball successfully to get them to the 1 yard line. Go back and look at the final drive again. It will make you shake your head. I am not even a seattle seahawks fan, and it just didn't feel right.

Did pete carroll out think himself? This game ending should have been like basic math. You know what one plus one equals. It is like getting that question and then saying 5. Why would they go away from something that worked all game?

The season is over, but to end it on the one yard line has to sting for the seahawks fans. Can you imagine having a great season and cheering in your favorite teams jersey to see it fall apart at the end?

Do you think the seahawks just gave that game away to the patriots at the end?

Lowering Expectations

2014-10-22T14:25:00.002-07:00

I just had a feeling that the niners wouldn't show up for the denver game. All the media talked about was Peyton breaking the record and wouldn't you know it, he start lighting it up as soon as the game starts. As soon as he did that trot on to the field, it was already over. No pass rush. No coverage in the secondary. The performance from the niners early was just sorry.

The niners couldn't seem to do anything right at the start of the game. The blocking was not there. Three and outs giving the ball back to Manning only made it worse. Sometimes it just seems like the niners take the day off.

Something really smells funny about this year. I thought the niners would be doing better than last year, but it seems like they are taking a step backwards.

They get all of these new players, but they can't seem to move the ball or score. The protection for Colin is not there and they still have a hard time just getting a stinking play in without calling a timeout.

After the start of the game, I figured out quickly that the game was going to line up with the whole story line of Manning and breaking the touchdown record. I knew they probably had all the footage and special crap for the halftime show. After a seeing a couple of series, I had enough and turned the channel.

The niner defense is just not as strong as in the past. They might be selling the idea of playoffs and superbowl, but I am not buying it. They lose games and they don't even look competitive.

It is just like the times when they would head up to Seattle and get roasted. Something is just not right. I have also noticed something different about the games in general in the nfl these days. Teams will get a big lead at the beginning of a game and then some how the team from behind finds a way to creep back into the game until the final minutes. Whatever happened to teams locking down wins?

It is still early in the season, but the niners just don't look like world beaters. The tough defense of the past is just gone.

Part of the reason is the changes to the rules in the league. Defense can't come up and make plays. They call just about anything trying to break up a receiver from the ball. The big hits are just not allowed. You can't hit the quarterback without getting a penalty.

I guess I have to take it down a notch when it comes to watching football. It is just entertainment after all.

Desean Jackson - The Redskins

2014-04-02T14:51:00.001-07:00

Desean picked the Redskins. I don't really know about that pick. He is probably still thinking about going up against the Eagles a couple of times per year.

I really would have liked to see him back in Cali with the niners though. He would have been a great compliment to the other 49er wideouts.

At least he landed somewhere. The Eagles really did him dirty. I think that they just didn't want to pay him. It is funny how they always show those big contract numbers at the start, but it doesn't seem like players ever really hang around enough to get all the money. They get cut before the real money kicks in.

I am really hoping that the Eagles fall on their faces. They might still pick up a receiver in the draft, but I hope they fail.

I never really liked the eagles. I did root for them when they had Donovan McNabb and T.O. They were exciting to watch. They kept Riley Cooper after that racial rant video and that spoke volumes about what is okay in philly. The really funny part was hearing all disparaging remarks about Desean while they just ignored Riley Cooper. Message received loud and clear.

I hope Desean Jackson lights it up against the Eagles every time they play each other.

DeSean Jackson > Riley Cooper

2014-03-28T13:03:00.001-07:00

The Eagles released Desean Jackson, but they kept Riley Cooper? Hmmm.

So Riley gets a multi year extension and Desean gets his walking papers.

Niners should upgrade the kick return and punt return game

2014-03-27T11:56:00.000-07:00

I was really hoping that the niners could land Desean Jackson. He would be able to fill so many different holes.

The kick return game for the niners seemed to fall flat last year. LaMichael James didn't seem to really shine in that position last year. Maybe he will get a better feel for it this year, but I would love to see Desean Jackson in the red and gold.

He could open the offense. Desean is super speedy and it would cause real problems for 49er opponents. The niners need to upgrade at the receiver position.

Seattle upped the ante with getting Percy Harvin and they are already scary good on the offensive side of the ball. Remember that Harvin didn't play in hardly any games during the last season. A healthy Percy Harvin is going to be problems for NFC West teams and teams that have to play Seattle.

The niners have some good options for Colin Kaepernick, but it never hurts to add more. Getting Desean Jackson on the field at the same time with Boldin, Crabtree and Davis would be a problem for defenses around the league.

I would really like to see Desean returning kicks. These NFL games are coming down to extra points and field goals. Better field position will lead to more points.

The niners should really do what they can to land Desean Jackson

Seattle Defense and Peyton Manning

2014-01-27T11:40:00.000-08:00

What about the pass rush?

What about the Legion of Boom?

Peyton Manning is not mobile, but he can deliver the ball.

Richard Sherman and the Legion of Boom will have their hands filled with the Denver Broncos Receivers and Tight ends.

Seattle is going to need to keep Peyton off the field.

Who will win the Superbowl?

2014-01-25T13:38:00.000-08:00

I don't really even care this year.

The Niner Seahawks game just was over the top.

The refs got into that game early and they never let up.

Russell Wilson is a great qb, but he just doesn't seem like the Russell Wilson from last year.

He might show up big in the Superbowl.

Is Peyton Manning going to walk away from the game if Denver wins the Superbowl?

It will be an interesting match up between the Broncos offense and the Seahawks D.

Who do I think will win?

This year I could care less.

I have no problem with Lynch ( Oakland ) , Richard Sherman and Russell Wilson getting a ring.

Manning has been playing off the charts the whole year.

I just don't know what the deal is with the niners.

Wildcard Weekend Day 2

2014-01-06T13:14:00.005-08:00

Did you really pay attention to the AFC Wildcard game on Sunday? I really didn't care who won that one. The Bengals ended up losing to the San Diego Chargers.

I just noticed that the games were much closer this wild card weekend. The Bengals turned the ball over too many times. In the playoffs, you don't get a chance to make too many mistakes.

Phillip Rivers is a good quarterback and if you give him enough chances, he will get the job done. The Bengals are a good young team, but they have been saying that for years. If you start listening online, more people are starting to question if Andy Dalton can win in the playoffs. They are also starting to talk about Marvin Lewis.

The 49ers and the Packers was a good game, but again, this game should not have been this close. Seems like most of the playoff games are coming down to the end of regulation.

The 49ers were dominant in the first quarter, but they kept settling for field goals. I don't know what the 49er play callers have against running the ball inside the redzone. It made no sense to throw that many passes down there. The score could have easily been 21-0 in the first half.

The Packers were not able to move the ball early, but they got it rolling when they were allowed to grab and hold like they worked for the wwe. Eddie Lacy started slow, but kept on picking up steam. He looked like he was ready to break a big run at some point. The weather played a big part in this game. Players were dropping due to injury. I don't know how many Packer starters went down.

The amount of no calls in this game was just amazing. Aaron Rodgers was able to complete a pass after one of his offensive linemen put a choke hold on a 49er defender that had him in the grasp. I guess the refs were looking at their shoes when the play was happening. It turned into a big play that resulted in a touchdown.

The Packers seem to have a real problem dealing with Colin Kaepernick. He was able to break contain on a number of plays that resulted in big yards and first downs. The last drive was really a back breaker for the Green Bay Packers. Green Bay really had a chance to end the 49er comeback, one of the defensive backs just couldn't hold on to an interception.

The Niners milked the clock and put up a game winning field goal to escape all the holding and no calls to leave the frozen tundra with a victory.

Wildcard Weekend Day 1

2014-01-04T20:52:00.001-08:00

How did the Kansas City Chiefs lose the game? It made absolutely no sense. They had a huge lead. Somebody should get fired for that one. To be that far ahead and lose in the last few minutes is just crazy.

I am not a big Alex Smith fan, but today he did his job. He probably played the best game of his career today. It must really sting to play that well and still get an L.

There is really something funny going on with some of these nfl games. In the past, a team would get a lead and put a team away. Now, it seems like teams don't want to use the instinct to lock games down. It is really strange.

The New Orleans Saints beat the Philly Eagles. I didn't really care who won this game. It was some good entertainment. This was another baffling game. The Eagles seemed like decided not to use their best option on offense ( DESEAN JACKSON ). Sure the run game is good, but you need to get the ball into your play makers hands.

The Saints really had a chance to put this game away, but they let the Eagles make a real game of it. Turnovers did play a role in it. The Saints really used some good time management close to the end of the game. I saw the last play that the Eagles scored on and it just looked like the line was unbalanced, like the Saints wanted them to score with enough time left for them to come back. The Saints proceeded to march down the field and drain the clock to kick the winning field goal. The running game for the Saints showed up at the right time.

Can't wait for the second day of wildcard weekend.

Niners beat the Bucs

2013-12-15T21:27:00.000-08:00

the 49ers played the Tampa Bay bucs. They beat the bucs, but the game got a little strange a few minutes before the half. The niner defense had tampa bay locked down for the better part of the 2nd quarter. Then with just a few minutes left, the 49er defense seems to go into a prevent type defense that allowed tampa to score. It just didn't make sense. They had gotten good pressure during most of the first half and then right before the half, it just broke down. That series was just really strange.

The niners offense put up points, but it seems like they are not really on the same page. They have drives that just stall for no reason. They can't seem to get the plays called without wasting time outs and they leave a lot of points on the scoreboard. They should really be putting up more points. Better teams are not going to let them get away with making field goals or not converting.

There are only a few weeks left in the season and hopefully the niners will make it into the playoffs. The niners are not looking as dominant as they did last year at this time. I don't know if the superbowl is realistic. Will they suddenly start clicking? Who knows.

Auburn beats Alabama

2013-12-01T10:13:00.001-08:00

Alabama lost to Auburn. How did this happen? Bama had a lot of great top picks, but they managed to lose the game on a field goal attempt.

The Crimson Tide will have to think about this game for a long time. Auburn would not go away. Why didn't the Crimson Tide just keep running the ball with all of their great running backs?

Special teams really played a big role in this game. Auburn punted the ball really well trapping Alabama inside the 5 yard line. Bama still found a way to drive down the field.

This game should have been over at half time. Bama built a good lead, and you would think that they would have just turned to the running game to milk the clock. It didn't work out that way. Auburn fought back and found a way to win.

The special teams really broke down on that last play. They were probably not even considering the missed and short field goal scenario. What about those two Alabama players that had a chance to stop the Auburn player running back the ball? The sideline was right there, but they could not manage to get him out of bounds. This was really a fantastic last play that will be remembered for a long time.

Drew Brees Hit

2013-11-20T11:54:00.001-08:00

The nfl is going soft. Now, just hitting the quarterback for a sack is getting a flag. I don't see how a defender can play defense anymore. Where can they hit an offensive player without getting a penalty?

The game is moving fast and the players don't have a chance to slow down like the slow motion video to make sure they hit a player in a very small window. All a player has to do is crouch down just a little and the defensive player will get a penalty. I understand the nfl wanting to get better at player safety, but this is getting to the point where the fines and the penalties are really changing the game.

On top of getting a penalty, the defensive players are getting hit with big money fines. The sad part is that the defenders are going to start changing the way they play and the offense will take off. People are going to hold up on making tackles and the end result is going to be simple. The defenders that don't make plays will get cut.

So in effect, the defensive players that are doing their jobs are going to get a paycut for playing defense. There are plenty of offensive players that cut block and do crackback blocks. They don't get hit with penalties.

Soon the nfl will be a flag football league.

College Football - Alabama Crimson Tide 2013

2013-10-22T10:16:00.001-07:00

The Crimson Tide is rolling on the way to another college football national championship. What is the key to the big wins for Alabama? Nick Saban made sure to create a schedule that put the team in the right position at the right time. Alabama is also stacked with talent that a lot of other teams just cannot match.

There are some teams that might give Alabama a tough time, but they have to make it through their own schedules without getting a loss and that is going to be tough. The Oregon Ducks look like a competitor that might provide challenges to Bama, but people automatically discount any team that is not in the SEC.

Last year the Texas A&M Aggies and Johnny Manziel were the only team to hand Alabama a loss. This year they gave Alabama all that they could handle, but they lost the game. Johnny football is a great football player, but he alone could not beat the tide. Alabama is just too deep all over the field for most teams to be able to compete.

The Florida State Seminoles are rising in the polls. They are still unbeaten and the program is on the rise again. The problem with the SEC is that there are a lot of good teams and they will beat each other up during the season and not get a chance to play for the championship. The scheduling is going to make a big difference. Take the time to look at the Alabama schedule and you will see that Nick Saban did his job before the season started.

The only real test Alabama had was Texas A&M at the beginning of the season. They got over that hump and then rolled over a bunch of teams that really didn't have a chance to beat Alabama without some big breakdowns or injuries. Nick Saban learned a lesson last year from the scheduling of LSU and Texas A&M back to back. They got him once, but not again.

Alabama has a few games left in the season that might present a problem. LSU and Auburn are those special kind of games where your record doesn't matter. These teams don't like each other. The main difference is that Alabama is stacked and they will be rested by the time they play these teams. Bama gets to tune up a lot of those other teams that have no business being on their schedule.

Are you ready to pencil in Alabama into the title game? I think that they will get there. Will they roll over who ever shows up?
