One of the key factors for success in using WordPress as a blog or static website, is that you have to change the permalinks settings. It takes about one minute to do and it makes your urls search engine friendly. The default installation of WordPress uses urls like www.example.com/?p=1234 to point to your individual blog articles, pages, and posts. While this works fine for modern search engines, changing the default so that your links look like www.example.com/category/title-of-post has a few additional benefits, the primary advantage being….

Your post title and category names are represented in your URLs or permalinks, the words that you use for your categories and titles automatically become keywords that the search engines can index every time someone links to you

How do you do it?

WordPress makes it easy for you to change your URLs, a.k.a. permalinks.

Log into your WordPress blog.

Click “Options”. It’s near the top of the screen.

Scroll down to the “Common options” section and select “Custom, specify below”. In the box below, type “/%category%/%postname%/” without the opening and closing inverted commas (quotes). Click “Update Permalink Structure”.

Making this change will greatly enhance the user experience with your website and make it more search engine friendly.

It has great potential for generating traffic, and if used with a good, popular affiliate product, or even for promoting any product at all, it has the potential to generate some fast cash for you.

There is a not well known trick you can use to generate traffic.

I’ve been using this method for just under a year now on Squidoo, and the same principal works for HubPages too, so I started using it there too. This method may be the kind of information that will take your Squidoo Lenses and Hub pages to the next level of income and traffic generation.

This traffic generating principal is based around tag pages, which are used by both sites. You can see tag on every page on both sites, so go and take a look at what they are. Tag pages are a listing of all HubPages hubs / Squidoo lenses that use that tag or keyword.

You may know the term tag more commonly used as a keyword, or search term, these are used to describe what a hub or lens is all about. After having tested this successfully on Squidoo, this was then tested several weeks later on HubPages, and in each scenario, substantial traffic was generated for the respective hub or lens, which in turn generated revenue for my affiliate product.

Tag pages on HubPages and Squidoo can be quite highly ranked with Google, in fact some are even Google Page Rank 6, and can also appear on the front page of Google for that keyword. Adding those pages which are found on the tag pages to your lens or hub greatly increases your exposure, and gives you a good chance of also being shown on those tag pages so you can generate some good traffic quite quickly.

You can quickly implement this on your Squidoo lenses or HubPages hub, and is a good little trick that you can use to generate extra traffic for free. If you can get your page on the first page for that tag page, then you have a good chance of generating extra traffic and revenue for your product. If there aren’t too many pages for your tag, then you have an even greater chance of success, so get started today!

Want to know the full details? There’s more! Want to increase the effectiveness of your Squidoo Lens or Hubpages Hub? Then visit Squidoo Tips and Hubpages Tips to learn the full details of this powerful yet simple traffic tip.

When people set up their website, they usually just use any old category in WordPress. Many just use the uncategorized initial setup that WordPress comes with. This is a big mistake. I have found that if you plan your categories and create them beforehand thoroughly, you will benefit from more natural search traffic. If your categories are clearly defined it also helps the visitor find what they want.

By adding categories to your blog that are relevant, they can arrange and clean up everything. If you want both search engines and visitors to be able to navigate your site intuitively, having your content correctly organized is critical. Organization is the name of the game, so get rid of clutter and make it a point to streamline your information. Using the permalink function in WordPress will allow the category to show up in the full URL for every post that you add to your site. This will enhance your SEO efforts, and people who visit your posts will be immediately told what your post is about within the web address.

If you are trying to get ranked for a particular keyword, be sure to make your category title the keyword. because of how WordPress is structured this will put your keyword into the url of every post and page in that category.

Everyone who has a website needs a program to drive traffic to it. If no one ever sees your website, it might as well not exist. The following internet marketing system steps provide a systematic blueprint on how you can drive traffic to your website in as little as 24 hours. All of the techniques listed are free.

Are you familiar with the TV show, “24″, starring Keiffer Sutherland as Agent Jack Bauer? The show is premised on showing what happens in one day, one hour at a time. Well, I am not Jack Bauer, so I can’t promise you traffic in an hour. But, my name is Jack and I can promise you some in 24!

Introducing, Jack’s 24 Hour Traffic Plan !

This method will start getting you traffic in 24 hours. First, be absolutely sure that you have an opt in form (email sign up) prominently displayed in your sidebar and your promotional giveaway, above the fold. Some of this I might have duplicated in previous posts, but it will not hurt to list them again. if you have any questions about any particular step, please leave a comment and I will try to answer them.

Jack’s 24 Hour Traffic Plan

1.Choose a targeted buyer keyword phrase (Google keyword tool)

2. Submit website to social bookmarking websites (www.onlywire.com & www.socialmarking.com). I use Onlywire. It will take you a couple of hours to sign up for all the services and set up the accounts. I suggest you download Roboform (its free), to fill in all the forms to join these sites.

3. Ping your website using www.PingOmatic.com. You need to not only ping the main page of your site, but also the page that contains your free offer and opt in form. You can ping about every 3 days if you like. You can also sign up for pingler.com, which will automatically ping up to 25 urls every 3 days for $3 a month.

4. Create a blog on www.blogger.com. Make sure your keyword is in the name of your blog. (If you used WordPress as I suggested to create your website, then you will now have 2 blogs. That’s a good thing. But do not duplicate posts, at least at first. If you do want the hassle of duplicate posts, then skip this step.)

5. Submit the RSS (Real Simple Syndication) feed of your Blogger blog to www.FeedAgg.com and www.FeedBase.net. You can burn your feed at www.feedburner.com. Be sure to add the code they request for both of these sites on your Blogger blog. Do the same for any other blogs you have.

6. Ping your Blogger blog.

7. Write a press release on your website. Submit it to; www.free-press-release.com, www.i-newswire.com, www.pressreleasespider.com, and www.pr-log.com. Make sure you follow the guidelines for each site. Be sure the name of your website (keyword phrase) in your press release title.

8. Write an article on your business or website and submit it too www.Zimbio.com and www.Squidoo.com.

9. Create a short video on your business or website and submit it to www.YouTube.com, www.Revver.com, and www.RealPeopleRealStuff.com. To create a video, first go to www.Stock.xchng.com to find some free, royalty free pictures to use in your video. Next go to Audacity and download their free audio software. Use Audacity to record your article as an MP3 file (this will be the audio for your video). Next, open up the Windows Moviemaker software on your computer. Import your pictures and audio file. Submit the finished video to the previously listed sites. Be sure to include your keyword phrase in the tile of the video and your website url in the very first sentence of your video description.

10. Create a short 2 or 3 sentence classified advertisement about your business and the free product, report, etc. you are giving away. Then, submit the ad to craigslist.org, backpage.com, and Oodle.com. Again, be sure to include the keyword phrase in the title of the ad.

11. Go to FindBlogs.com. Find and join 3 forums in your niche. Add your website address into the signature block in your profile. Then find the welcome area and post a hello that you have joined the form. After your post is posted, Ping the post. When you revisit these forums make comments and posts. These will increase your visibility. Be sure to Ping your posts every time you make one.

12. Create a podcast radio show about your business at www.BlogTalkRadio.com.

13. Create a www.Twitter.com account. Be sure to include your keyword or phrase in your user name. Search Twitter and sign up to follow others in your niche.

14. Go to www.Selfpromotion.com and create an account. Selfpromotion.com submits to dozens of directories and will get your site listed quick.

All of these steps will take you about 4-6 hours of work, maybe more if you are unfamiliar with the internet. When you are done, mark down the time you finished all of them. Wait 24 hours, and then go check your traffic numbers at Statcounter. I guarantee that you will have had visitors to your site!

Do you want to build up the backlinks to your site too? More backlinks, means higher rankings, which translates into more traffic. Keep on posting on your blog (make sure the posts have a link back to your website), pinging the posts, and be sure to bookmark those posts via the social bookmarking service you decided to use. After 30 days, go to www.backlinkwatch.com. They have a free service that will list for you all of the links that have been indexed.

The fact of the matter is that the internet is simply getting more
and more powerful everyday and thus occupying more and more of
people’s attention.

What does this mean?

It means that more of your potential and existing customers are
turning to the internet with their time as well as using it to find
more information about you and your local business.

If you haven’t already heard some of these statistics about internet
usage and it’s importance to local business, see this:

-According to Nielsen, 82% of U.S. consumers are searching online to
find local services.
-1,000,000 local searches take place on online search engines and
directories every month, and this number will grow by 50% every
year.
-According to ComScore, 82% of local searchers follow up offline via
an in-store visit, a phone call, or a purchase and of this group 61%
end up making a purchase.
-According to the Kelsey Group, a major media and advisory firm,
local online advertising spending is expected to more than double
from $15.2 billion in 2009 to $36.7 billion in 2012 as traditional
media spending declines.

Thus, for local business, it’s crucial to embrace online advertising
in order to attract new customers and preserve existing customers.

With the surging popularity of smartphones, tablet computers,
netbooks, etc, it’s becoming even more evident that any business
that seeks to thrive needs to have a web strategy for marketing
themselves.

By not utilizing any internet marketing, you not only miss out on a
golden opportunity to further grow your business but could also find
yourself behind the competition that is already operating an
effective web.

Don’t throw away a chance to see real significant results in your
local business.

Here is a little tip for you on driving no cost extra traffic to your website and building your email list.

How? Free ebooks. Here is how it works. If you have been writing articles to promote your website and build links (like you should have), you probably have amassed a decent amount of material over time. Take those articles and combine them into an ebook. The ebook;

Only has to be 7 to 8 pages long.

Put your website address on the first page.

On the last page, have an ad directing the viewer back to your website where they can download another, different free ebook.

Then, convert the ebook to a pdf. There are several free services online to do this. I use www.zamzar.com. You can also download the OpenOffice software for free and their word processor has a built in pdf converter.Upload the ebook onto the following two sites;

www.getfreeebooks.com

www.free-ebooks.net

These two sites have about 95% of the free ebook traffic.

There you go. A quick, free, and easy way to take advantage of material you have already written and convert it into traffic to your website.

Nearly all website owners know that back linking is the secret to increasing the online exposure of a website and also the amount of traffic that the website attracts. There are many methods that can help you to optimize links to increase the search engine ranking of a site. One of the methods is called the link wheel. The following is a summary of what a link wheel is, the various techniques you can use to create a link wheel, what they can do for your site, and most importantly, how the search engines perceive this technique.

What is a link wheel?

A link wheel is essentially a combination of links from highly ranked websites that ultimately link back to your website. It is created by using Web 2.0 sites such as Hubpages, a Squidoo lens, etc., along with other mediums that generate “do follow” links

The idea behind the development of a link wheel is very easy; you are gathering a group of links from a pool of websites that have a high rank. The higher amount of links back to your website, the higher your rank will be on search engines.

How to build a link wheel

First, begin by building a Squidoo Lens about your site and be sure it has a link back to your website. Signing up for Squidoo is very easy. You can start adding articles to your page straight away.

The next step is to create a valuable article regarding your niches that readers will find attractive. You can add this article to directories like www.ezine.com and www.goarticles.com. Link these articles back to your Squidoo Lens. You can add your link in the resource box of the article.

Next, go to Hubpages.com, sign up for a Hugpages account, and write a Hubpage regarding the topic of your website and link it back to the articles that you posted in the article directories.

Are you catching on now? All you are doing is just interlinking articles that you have posted to the different websites that are highly ranked. Next, make a Google Knol about your niche and link it back to your Hubpage.

Finally, link to your Google Knol with a Blogger blog. A single page blog should do just fine. As a matter of fact, you can us a single blog for several link wheels.

At this point, you can;

Continue building the link wheel

Leave it open by not linking to any other site

Close it by linking back to your website

If you link back to your website, you will have come full circle. You started with your website and ended up there at the end of the wheel. Regardless of whether you leave the link wheel open or closed, you will see a rise in the ranking of your site in just a week or two.

Facts about link wheels

Most website owners wonder if link wheels actually produce results nowadays with Google looking down upon people who are trying to tamper with its algorithm. The link wheel technique still works but aside from making your own content and interlinking it, you should try to add some links from related websites so that it does not become apparent that you are attempting to cheat Google into giving your site a higher rank. When developed well with self made and third-party high ranking sites, link wheels are a strong SEO method that can boost the search engine ranking of your site and increase the amount of traffic it receives.

The Dos and Don’ts of link wheels

If you want a link wheel to do positive things for your website, then you must know about the things you should do, and what to avoid at all costs. Below are some dos and don’ts that will greatly benefit you.

Do

Do use an assortment of content, the more articles you use the better your success will be with using the power of your link wheel, so get creative, and add a variety of content.

Do link your site with other sites that have a main page that clearly displays the link pages. A site with links that are not easy to spot will not help you in gaining the attention that your site requires.

Do add sites in your link wheel that are in the same niche as your site.

Do make note of your links by using an excel sheet or a link wheel creation program because you need to keep track of the link exchanges that you have asked for as well as the website url and the contact information of the webmaster.

Dont’s

Do not compromise on the quality of your content. If you are spinning your material, ensure that each spun version is at least 35% different from the other versions.

Do not use link fields, which are pages without any articles.

What does Google think about link wheels?

Google does not like to be spammed or cheated, so yes there have been sites that were penalized for using the old link wheel building technique where people were blasting a single article to over a dozen websites. Google will not find fault with you if your content is diverse and not duplicated.

I use WordPress for almost every website I build. And why not? WordPress does everything for you. It is free, it is open source (meaning some very smart people are continually trying to upgrade) which benefits you. And it is very easily altered so that it supports search optimization.

Two things when you are ready to install WordPress.

Be sure that you select a good hosting provider. Your host must carry PHP version 4.3 or higher and MySQL version 4.0 or higher in order for for the WordPress databases to run smoothly. WordPress recommends Apache or Litespeed as the “most robust” server for running WordPress, but any server that supports PHP and MySQL will do.

Make sure they have Cpanel. Cpanel is a Linux web hosting account management tool that can be used to easily add domain names to your account, check for errors on your server and monitor disk space and bandwidth usage. I recommend finding a blog hosting software package that includes Cpanel.

I personally use several different hosting servers; Godaddy, Startlogic, and IxWebhosting. My clients use many different ones. The one that I would certainly NOT recommend is Blue Host.
