In many places where you need to input your password to gain access, authorize or confirm a transaction, whenever you type passwords into the input text box, the characters automatically turns into asterisks or bullets. This is to protect your password from straying eyes.

However, in situations that require you to know what lies behind those asterisks, we’ve got a simple trick to reveal the passwords on your web browsers.

These hidden passwords are disguised with the help of simple HTML and CSS. So just changing the value of something specific will easily reveal what’s behind those bullets or astericks. We’ll show you how this is done in Google Chrome and Firefox.

Google Chrome

In any website which contains your saved password, right click on thepassword box and click on Inspect element.

You’ll now notice the bottom quarter of your screen filled with codes. You only need to focus on the highlighted (in blue) part to reveal the password.

Look for type="password" and double click on it. Replace the word ‘password’ with ‘text‘.

It should now look like type="text". Hit Enter.

After you’ve changed that, the text behind the asterisks or bullets will be revealed.

Mozilla Firefox

To reveal the password in Firefox, first, right click the password box and selectInspect Element.

A dark grey bar will appear at the bottom of the browser; click on the Markup Panel or hit Alt + M.

It will reveal a few lines of codes; the line you want to focus at is thehighlighted line.

Again, look for type="password" and double click on it. Replace the word ‘password’ with ‘text‘ so it looks like type="text". Then hit Enter.

The password masked behind the asterisks or bullets will now be revealed.

Upgrade Windows 10 from Windows 7 , 8 & 8.1

To upgrade from Windows 7/8 to Windows 10 there is a very small list of must-haves and a few recommended items (which we’ll cover in the next section Pre-Upgrade Housekeeping). Let’s take a look at what you need before proceeding and then highlight some best practices.

An Activated Copy of Windows

The most important thing is that your current version of Windows is properly activated. Although Microsoft alluded to the idea that Windows 10 would be a sweeping upgrade that would even install on pirated and/or unactivated copies of Windows that plan never came to fruition and you most certainly need an activated copy under the current deployment model.

To check if your copy of Windows 8 is activated, press Windows Key + W to pull up the Setting search and type in “activated” to access the “See if Windows Is Activated” menu. Alternatively, you can look under Control Panel -> System to see the status of the machine.

To check if your copy of Windows 7 is activated you can click on Start Button, right click on “Computer”, and select properties. The resulting status menu will show if your copy of Windows is activated.

The Appropriate Windows 10 Update Tool

Although the Windows 10 update tool is pretty straight forward you need the right version for your hardware. The first step is determining if you are running a 32-bit machine or a 64-bit machine. While you can read about the nuances of of each in our article HTG Explains: What’s The Difference Between 32-bit and 64-Bit Windows 7 you can check what version of Windows you are currently running by simply looking in the same place in both Windows 7 and Windows 8 that we highlighted in the previous section on checking your Windows activation. The same panel/menu that tells you if your computer is activated also tells you your “System type”.

In Windows 7 it will simply tell you that it is a 64-bit or 32-bit operating system but in Windows 8 it will actually (and helpfully) both tell you if you’re running Windows 32-bit or Windows 64-bit as well as what the actual architecture of the underlying hardware is and if it supports 64-bit computing. (e.g. you have Windows 8 32-bit installed but the hardware actually supports 64-bit). There’s a huge catch here though: you can’t upgrade an installation of Windows from 32-bit to 64-bit even if the hardware supports it; you have to do a clean install.

With that in mind, whatever bit-version of Windows you are running on your about-to-be-upgraded machine that is the version of the download tool you need to download if you wish to do an in-place upgrade and not a clean wipe.

You can find the download tool here. Select the correct version, 32 or 64-bit, to match your current Windows installation.

Running the Upgrade Installer

When you’re ready to upgrade run the installer tool, labeled MediaCreationTool, to get started.

You’ll first be prompted to upgrade the PC or create installation media for another PC. Select “Upgrade this PC now” to begin the upgrade process and click “Next”. This begins the download process which is a long or short affair dependent entirely upon your Internet connection speed. We zoomed to 100 percent in a matter of minutes on a speedy cable connection, but if you’re on a slow connection you might be watching the meter for some time.

When it finally finishes downloading and unpacking the installation media you’ll be prompted to accept the terms of the license agreement. Click “Accept” and the installer will do a final update check before kicking you over to the final confirmation page.

By default the installer will select the largest “what to keep” selection it can. If you want to make changes to what it is keeping click the small “Change what to keep” link as seen in the screenshot above. You’ll be prompted to select to select which kind of installation you want.

Here in this section you’ll select to keep personal files and apps, personal files only, or nothing at all and your apps, files, and settings will be deleted.

Uninstall Windows 8, 8.1 & 10 Store Apps

Windows 8 is basically focused on Modern (Metro) Apps or Windows Store apps and comes with some pre-installed Modern Apps in order to make the users get started with Windows 8. However, there are some folks, who may not have use for Modern Apps and may want to uninstall them. While one can uninstall Windows 8 apps, there is no easy way to completely remove them from your disk.

In this article, I’ll share the way to completely remove all the Windows Store apps from Windows 8.

Please note that, when you uninstall a Windows Store App from usual options, the app is removed temporarily and goes to a staged condition discussed later in this article. Thus, when you create a new user account on Windows 8, it will again have all the pre-installed apps, since the default Windows Store Apps are not removed completely from the system.

To completely remove and erase all default pre-installed apps, you must be signed in as Administrator of you Windows Account – and you need to remove it in two places:

Remove the provisioned package
Remove the “installed” package from the administrator account.

Before you proceed, create a system restore point first.

1. Firstly, you will have to open an elevated PowerShell prompt. Press Windows Key + Q, and in the search box, typepowershell. From results, pick the Windows PowerShell. Right-click on it, select Run as administrator from bottom options.

2. In the Windows PowerShell window, type following command to enlist all the apps pre-installed on your Windows 8.

Get-AppxPackage -AllUsers

Command to remove all the Modern Apps from your system account

3. Run the following command to remove all Windows Store Apps:

Get-AppXProvisionedPackage -online | Remove-AppxProvisionedPackage -online

That’s it! Now whenever you create a new user account on your Windows 8, there will no be no pre-installed Modern apps on that account as well.

Whenever we uninstall a Windows Store App, its status in PowerShell window is displayed as Staged. That means, the app still lies in Windows. In other words, the application is prepared to get automatic installation when a new user account is created.

4. If you’d like to remove all Modern Apps for the current account only, use following command:

Get-AppXPackage | Remove-AppxPackage

5. In case you want to remove all Modern Apps for a specific user then add the -User part in above command, so it is:

Get-AppXPackage -User | Remove-AppxPackage

6. Finally, let us know the command to remove all Modern Apps from all the account on your Windows 8:

Get-AppxPackage -AllUsers | Remove-AppxPackage

In Windows 10, you should use: Get-AppXPackage -User | Remove-AppxPackage.

That’s it! The apps will now be completely uninstalled and erased from your system!

Shape of normal distribution when standard deviation is ZERO

When standard deviation is zero, you will not have a curve with a shape, but just the middle line that represents the mean/median/mode
For any distribution, the smallest possible value for the standard deviation is zero. From the definition of the normal distribution centered at 0, , we can't just set , because we can not divide by zero.

Instead, we should examine what happens as . We know that is fundamentally related to what people interpret as the 'width' of the distribution. So, as know that the 'width' of the distribution will get narrower. The area under the distribution always has to integrate to zero, so the 'height' of the distribution will get taller to compensate for decreasing 'width.'

Taking this to its logic conclusion, we have a distribution function that is zero everywhere except that the center (in the above example, at x=0) and at x=0 is..... well.... that is kind of the rub. Infinity isn't really a number that it makes sense for a function to have as a value. We want to say the distribution has a value of infinity at the point it was originally centered around. This is not strictly correct, but it is correct enough to be the useful way to think about it in applications like physics and signals processing.

A statistical measure of the dispersion of data points in a data series around the mean. It is calculated as follows:

The coefficient of variation represents the ratio of the standard deviation to the mean, and it is a useful statistic for comparing the degree of variation from one data series to another, even if the means are drastically different from each other.

A coefficient of variation (CV) can be calculated and interpreted in two different settings: analyzing a single variable and interpreting a model. The standard formulation of the CV, the ratio of the standard deviation to the mean, applies in the single variable setting. In the modeling setting, the CV is calculated as the ratio of the root mean squared error (RMSE) to the mean of the dependent variable. In both settings, the CV is often presented as the given ratio multiplied by 100. The CV for a single variable aims to describe the dispersion of the variable in a way that does not depend on the variable's measurement unit. The higher the CV, the greater the dispersion in the variable. The CV for a model aims to describe the model fit in terms of the relative sizes of the squared residuals and outcome values. The lower the CV, the smaller the residuals relative to the predicted value. This is suggestive of a good model fit.

Advantages

The advantage of the CV is that it is unitless. This allows CVs to be compared to each other in ways that other measures, like standard deviations or root mean squared residuals, cannot be.

In the variable CV setting: The standard deviations of two variables, while both measure dispersion in their respective variables, cannot be compared to each other in a meaningful way to determine which variable has greater dispersion because they may vary greatly in their units and the means about which they occur. The standard deviation and mean of a variable are expressed in the same units, so taking the ratio of these two allows the units to cancel. This ratio can then be compared to other such ratios in a meaningful way: between two variables (that meet the assumptions outlined below), the variable with the smaller CV is less dispersed than the variable with the larger CV.

In the model CV setting: Similarly, the RMSE of two models both measure the magnitude of the residuals, but they cannot be compared to each other in a meaningful way to determine which model provides better predictions of an outcome. The model RMSE and mean of the predicted variable are expressed in the same units, so taking the ratio of these two allows the units to cancel. This ratio can then be compared to other such ratios in a meaningful way: between two models (where the outcome variable meets the assumptions outlined below), the model with the smaller CV has predicted values that are closer to the actual values. It is interesting to note the differences between a model's CV and R-squared values. Both are unitless measures that are indicative of model fit, but they define model fit in two different ways: CV evaluates the relative closeness of the predictions to the actual values while R-squared evaluates how much of the variability in the actual values is explained by the model.

If a high proportion of data points lie far from the mean value, then the standard deviation is large. An experiment that yields data with a high standard deviation is said to have low precision.

The following quantities/equations are quantitative measures of precision.

The equations provide precision measures for a limited number of repetitive measurements, i.e. between 2 and 20. The equation at the end is the true standard deviation for any number of repeat measurements.

Standard Deviation

The standard deviation, s, is a statistical measure of the precision for a series of repetitive measurements. The advantage of using s to quote uncertainty in a result is that it has the same units as the experimental data. Under a normal distribution, ± one standard deviation encompasses 68% of the measurements and ± two standard deviations encompasses 96% of the measurements. It is calculated from:

The quantity (xi - ) is called the "residual" or the "deviation from the mean" for each measurement. The quantity (N - 1) is called the "degrees of freedom" for the measurement.

Relative standard Deviation

The relative standard deviation (RSD) is useful for comparing the uncertainty between different measurements of varying absolute magnitude. The RSD is calculated from the standard deviation, s, and is commonly expressed as parts per thousand (ppt) or percentage (%):

You become what you think about or in other words: what you focus on grows in your life and from what you take your focus away from diminishes. This is also the message of the law of attraction, recently very popular by the movie and book “The Secret”.

It means that the mind is directing our life in the way we manifest the life around us by the thoughts and directions we take with our mind. Since everything we created around us is first created in the mind, it is the tool or the interface between our self and the material world.

Another quote of Buddha with a similar message here is “He is able who thinks he is able”. This also shows the creative power of the mind and if we are able to consciously use it in that way – avoiding negative thoughts and utilizing empowering thoughts – we use it in a supportive manner.

2. “All wrong-doing arises because of mind. If mind is transformed can wrong-doing remain?”[Tweet this!]

This is the core of personal development. It points towards the need to train and develop the mind and to free it from limits and negativity.

The other quote “The mind is the source of happiness and unhappiness.” makes the same point with the special notion ofhappiness. The mind used correctly – i.e. constructive, empowering, solution- and action-oriented, positive, truth-seeking – can create happiness. But used poorly – i.e. blaming, egocentric, negative, blinded by ambition or separation – it will create unhappiness for us. Training the mind is the key here.

The quote may also point to a transformation by awakening directly, where the mind becomes the servant of the self and not the creator of a self-image (the concept of the ego) as a replacement for the true self.

3. “Thousands of candles can be lit from a single candle, and the life of the candle will not be shortened. Happiness never decreases by being shared.” [Tweet this!]

This points to the abundant nature of reality. The abundance mentality says there is enough for everyone, we only have to realize and live by it. It is the opposite of a scarcity mentality, where you have the belief that you always have to fight for your part in a limited world.

4. “Do not dwell in the past, do not dream of the future, concentrate the mind on the present moment.” [Tweet this!]

The essence of living in the present moment, the Now, is focusing the mind here and take attention away from thinking about past or future. The present moment is all there ever is to experience life directly. Past and future are only concepts of our mind and therefore are good for learning from the past or conceptual planning when it is useful, but after this there is no need for them. Especially not to dwell in them and get stuck there in the mind by constant thinking loops.

5. “However many holy words you read, however many you speak, what good will they do you If you do not act on upon them?” [Tweet this!]

Action is what counts. It means to be action-oriented and to actually do what we think, to prove what we believe by applying it in reality. Only if we “walk our talk” we are authentic and truthful to ourselves.

To apply yourself and your ideas in reality is like a proof-test for what we think is right and will work. If there is no action and therefore no testing in reality, the words or ideas themselves are of no real sustainable value.

Another quote for this message is “A dog is not considered a good dog because he is a good barker. A man is not considered a good man because he is a good talker.”

6. “Even death is not to be feared by one who has lived wisely.” [Tweet this!]

This is the essence of Carpe Diem – to seize the day fully means living wisely. It means to live to the highest truth we know and to rise to our highest values and capabilities.

Living wisely also means not to believe every thought that comes, but to live more from the space between thoughts, from our essence.

7. “Peace comes from within. Do not seek it without.” [Tweet this!]

The so-called Inside-Out approach means to look within oneself to find the inspiration and power to act from this place. It means not to look to the outside world for liberation or happiness, but to take the responsibility for oneself and become that what we are seeking.

His second quote here “No one saves us but ourselves. No one can and no one may. We ourselves must walk the path.” talks directly about this responsibility, response-ability we have inside.

8. “In the sky, there is no distinction of east and west; people create distinctions out of their own minds and then believe them to be true.” [Tweet this!]

Any perspective we have on anything is only a relative truth. There are always both (or more) sides of any story. An objective perspective or an absolute truth is very hard or maybe impossible to see. But to be aware of this and to be interested to see another perspective from another person can be very mind-opening and valuable.

The matter of perspective (also described in the 7 habits of highly effective people) is a very powerful one and it is the core of most (if not all?) conflicts between people. One things one is right as long one stays in one’s own single perspective – needless to say, the other person has the same reality.

There is a similar quote by The Buddha that fits in here: “In seperateness lies the world’s great misery, in compassion lies the world’s true strength” which shows that if we become able to dissolve the separate perspective to a perspective of oneness with all other, we hold the key to end conflicts and to find solution and agreements suitable for everybody.

9. “If we could see the miracle of a single flower clearly, our whole life would change.” [Tweet this!]

This quote is perhaps the most difficult one to really understand. In the first place, it is not about the beautiful nature of the flower or beauty itself. What Buddha is talking about – in my humble opinion – is to see and get in touch with the life in a flower directly, without any interference by our mind by mental concepts and thoughts of the flower.

Eckhart Tolle in “A New Earth” talks about the flowering of human consciousness, maybe you want to take a look …

10. “The only real failure in life is not to be true to the best one knows.”

If we are not authentic and truthful to ourselves, we build a wall around us that eventually we have to tear down again. It is then literally a resistance to the reality and our own nature where we can hide some time, but life has a way to show us our own faults in the end.

To be true to the best one knows means to come from our own best knowledge and not buy into something outside ourselves blindly, always asking: is this really true to what I know?

In resonance with this quote also is the final one by The Buddha:

“There are only two mistakes one can make along the road to truth; not going all the way, and not starting.”
