It’s been a long time since the developers made so many changes in Ubuntu: With Karmic Koala, they have unleashed a whole host of innovations on Ubuntu users.

While recent Ubuntu releases have been more about careful enhancement and distribution maintenance, the current version 9.10 offers a new look as well as a whole range of new technical features – the developers have restructured the distribution’s standard filesystem, boot system and hardware maintenance, and they have introduced new software. Not everything is completely new; many changes were introduced into Ubuntu as part of a gradual development process and have now reached the maturity required for general use.

Changes start at the filesystem level: Ubuntu 9.10 now installs itself on Ext4 by default; in previous versions, users still had to access the text-based installer on the Alternate Installation CD and partition manually to use the Ext3 successor. A tip for those who like to experiment: While Btrfs is available in Ubuntu 9.10, it hasn’t yet made it into the installer – if you want to play around with the “next generation filesystem” for Linux, you have to install it manually.

With the switch to Ext4, the Ubuntu developers also updated the default boot manager, which is now Grub2. The new boot manager in Ubuntu 9.10 is visually the same, but offers several extended features: For instance, it can start the Linux kernel not only from Ext4, but also from LVM and RAID partitions. However, the installation of the latter two is still not supported in the graphic installation wizard of the standard desktop CD, and has to be done via the text-based installer on the Alternate CD.

I received a comment on my post “How to play YouTube Video in Ubuntu 9.04?” from jaleshd@gmail.com on August 26, 2009.

The Comment was -
when i click on a video to view it, it says -’could not open location. you may not have permission to open the file. ‘

Then I had doubt it could be due to the wireless network, because now a days most of the people started using Laptops rather than using a Desktop PC. Most of the laptops have In-build wireless, which makes people easy to access network where ever they go.

I had never received such a error because I was using wired Internet connection.

Then I started Google, relating to that of wireless network and then found it is a bug and it has been resolved.

just refer : https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/totem/+bug/323649

How did the problem solved ?

Download Patch to totem-plugins-2.26.1-0ubuntu5/youtube.py (565 bytes, text/plain) to desktop.

Copied the patch to /usr/lib/totem/plugins/youtube

$ cd /usr/lib/totem/plugins/youtube

$ sudo cp /home/user/Desktop/totem_plugins_youtube.py.patch .

Then patch the file youtube.py with totem_plugins_youtube.py.patch

$ sudo patch /usr/lib/totem/plugins/youtube/youtube.py totem_plugins_youtube.py.patch

Thus the patch fixes the error
”Could not open location; you might not have permission to open the file.” .

Now it works fine.

GNU is developed by the GNU Project and the development of GNU was initiated by Richard Stallman and then publicly announced as GNU operating system on September 27, 1983, which was the original focus of the Free Software Foundation (FSF).

The goal was to bring a free software operating system into existence.

What is the motive behind this?

Swami Vivekananda words on Importance of Education and Role of youth in Developing INDIA.
“Education, education, education alone! Traveling through many cities of Europe and observing in them the comforts and education of even the poor people, there was brought to my mind the state of our own poor people, and I used to shed tears. What made the difference? Education was the answer I got “.

And he has also said

“My faith is in the younger generation, out of them will come my workers. They will work out the whole problem”

So it is we, youth who can do something for the nation.

Why should I forward this mail?

1. We may not have time to train or teach people we may not have money to donate.But, we can certainly create awareness, by spreading the news, about free educational resources.
2. You will become gentle person as you are sending the most valuable mail.
3. You will reach your goals so early because you are helping others reaching their goals.
4. You are putting efforts in developing the nation, As nation development always depends on quality of education we get.
5. You will be liked by everyone as everyone likes those who help others.

So, send all Educational information to all your friends.

Add new links if you have any and Please forward this to everyone and join the awareness creation camp.
Even one out of 1000 gets benefit we will have 10 lack people like APJ Abdul Kalam. Then see the future of INDIA.

Regards

There are a lot of tutorials out on “t3h 1nt3rw3bZ” that show various different filter effects in GIMP and specifically how to do cartoon-like effects. That said, none of the ones that I came across on my search, nay trek, bore visually pleasing fruit … at least not for me.

So, as I usually do when I’m waisting time when I should be marking student assignments or more importantly, spending time with my wife and new daughter, I decided to start playing in GIMP and after many failed attempts I came across what I deemed to be a sort of graphic art-like effect; it’s not necessarily cartoon-like, but it is cartoony and I liked the effect and decided to write it down.

Of course I realized that I would probably lose the sheet of paper I wrote these set of steps down onto and so decided that I would use Linus Torvalds’ philosophy which is:

“Only wimps use tape backup: real men just upload their important stuff on ftp, and let the rest of the world mirror it “

This isn’t FTP, but it’s the same idea no doubt.

One of my friend was unable to mount a 250 GB external hard disk and the disk which has NTFS file system.

With help of my friend google, I found a driver called NTFS-3G which supports read/write NTFS driver for Linux, Mac OS X, FreeBSD, NetBSD, OpenSolaris, QNX, Haiku, and other operating systems.

it provides safe and fast handling of the Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, Windows 2000, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008 and Windows 7 file systems.

The ntfs-3g packages comes pre-installed with the newest versions of Ubuntu, but you still need to install ntfs-config

sudo apt-get install ntfs-config (or) ntfs-3g

sudo mkdir /media/sdb1

sudo mount -t ntfs-3g /dev/sdb1 /media/sdb1

ls -la /media/sdb1

that’s it.

Now you can start 250 GB external hard disk and the disk which has NTFS file system.
