This update also contains a bugfix for FS#508 (Debian install asking for root password) and a few improvements here and there.

About Portable-VirtualBox, I'm still waiting for a stable (and working) release of Portable VirtualBox 4.1.X.

Let's hope that it will be available soon. You can still install the real VirtualBox 4.1.X on your machine if you want to use it with LiLi.

I'm dedicating this release to Inès, the cute new born child of my friends Olivier and Alexia.

Mint, the most popular Linux

Mint 12 is out for a few days and if we trust DistroWatch rankings, it is the most popular Linux distribution.

Ubuntu is very close second.

Mint 12 is what Linux should be : nice and easy to use. Try it now as a Live USB using LiLi to see by yourself.

Fedora 16

Mint Debian, Sabayon ....

As you may have noticed, Fedora 16 codename "Verne" is available for a few days now.

LiLi 2.8.7 fully supports Fedora 16. Good news is that they fixed persistence (there was a very stupid bug in Fedora 15).

In my opinion, Fedora seems to be one of the most stable Linux distribution out there. I have done very few modifications to LiLi's code to support new Fedora versions since Fedora 12 !!! I can't say the same thing for Ubuntu or Debian.

You will have to re-download LiLi if you want to make Fedora 16 Live USB. As a side note, I think I will stop using the auto-update feature of LiLi in next major version since most updates also need a code update (= new binaries).

For Notebook users : please note that I fixed the bug of unusable keyboard arrows to move the interface.

Quite a long time since my last update but I have a lot of things going on lately so I'm sorry for that.

I strongly recommend to download LiLi again and reinstall it for this update because I've made a few changes to the code also.

This is a short changelog :

Enhanced support for VMware vSphere ESXi 5.0 (more on that one below)
Complete recode of recognition for Ubuntu variants
Only netbook users will be able to move the interface using keyboard (this was annoying for other users)
For some commercial/proprietary systems you will be able to download ISO from website directly (no mirrors)
A few other minor enhancements/bug fixes

About vSphere ESXi 5.0 support

My main job is as a Virtualization/SAN Engineer so this is why I wanted to have an enhanced support for ESXi hypervisor.

Beginning with vSphere 5, you will be able to select between two install modes at boot : Scripted or Interactive.

Plus, Kickstart file has been updated to offer more options and examples (thanks to William Lam and Tuan Duong)

In a nutshell, LiLi is the perfect tool to install ESXi from USB.

Mandriva support at last !

This update is a big one. And there is more !

This is exclusive : Mandriva 2011 is supported with persistence ! I don't think that there is any other Live USB creator with this feature :-D

I also fixed a few bugs with OpenSUSE so now it should work fine on most systems (same for Gnome 3 based on OpenSUSE).

VMware vSphere Hypervisor (ESXi) 5.0 is working well and you can even virtualize it in VirtualBox !

Please download LiLi again if you have version 2.8.4 installed or some of the new Linux supported will not work.

The other projects

I have been quite busy these last few weeks because I publicly released a few other softwares of mine on a brand new website.

PeekMon : a very versatile tool for monitoring your servers
ESXi Configuration backup : backups all your ESXi Hypervisors configuration files
iSCSI AutoConf : creates iSCSI configuration on ESXi very easily and following best practices

The last two ones are for VMware vSphere virtualization infrastructures and will only be useful if you are a SAN/Virtualization engineer.

All these tools are free and open-source, just like LinuxLive USB Creator :-D
