Final presentation!

2011-11-29T15:19:00.001+01:00

Yesterday we presented our solution, Million to Alelion Batteries, SolidEngineer, SIDA and lots of other interested people! We got some really great feedback and we have already received some probes in possible financing for continued work.

The focus now is on finishing the report that is to be handed in on december the 8th and on the presentation for our peers at KTH. After that we will have to decide what the next step for the group is, should we give the project to KTH to use as a case for future master or bachelor thesis projects or should we keep working on it to distribute Million in Tanzania? There are many options but we need to find the one that all the members of million are interested in.

Rehearsal 1

2011-11-24T17:27:00.006+01:00

Now its getting even closer..

Today we had our first rehearsal before the final presentation at Monday.

This will be awesome!

The end is near!

2011-11-21T16:10:00.001+01:00

There is just one week to go until the first of the two final presentations and this week everything is supposed to happen. This means a lot of work but also a lot of fun as everyone is pushing in the same direction.

The reason behind the two final presentations is that one of them is for sponsors, organizations and other intresents and thus focused on the product and the business case behind it while the other one is for school purposes, which means that it will focus more on the process - how we have worked and how that has worked.

To really focus during these final days we have taken up a great tradition of coffee, candy and hopefully a lion-bar or two.

2011-11-18T21:32:00.002+01:00

Even though its friday night the project dosent rest! Everybody is doing there part, and this is how the CAD-master (sry team, hade to put that in) is doing it. Have a Weekend people!

Presentation

2011-11-17T16:43:00.002+01:00

Today many of us ate our first gingerbread this year. Mmm. This afternoon we had a swedish "fika" and talked about the following days before the final presentation. Right now we are pretty stressed but very excited to present our final product! If you are interested, please visit the final presentation here at KTH the 28 of November.

Vitamin boost!

2011-11-14T14:31:00.003+01:00

Two weeks left to the final presentation and today we received a gift from Vitamin Well; 2 trays of beverage. Thank you!!

Seeing is believing!

Feedback

2011-11-10T15:40:00.007+01:00

Thank you for your Contribution!

The feedback is now gathered, and we appreciate all time you all have spent on helping us analyze our distribution and businessplan!

Market/BP-group celebrates your effort with a chocolate cupcake :)

Packing it up

2011-11-03T16:37:00.002+01:00

Its a tough job creating a wind mill that will work properly in Tanzania but our project does not stop at creating a wind mill, we need to create a device that can be packed efficiently so that freight, storage and manufacturing won't be hindered. We think we have come up with a solution that will really minimize the size of the package but hope that there are still some ways of making it even slimmer.

Business case

2011-11-03T09:51:00.012+01:00

After SGM4 the final presentation is now getting closer......

At SGM4 the first prototype (for testing) was presented by the Construction group, and the Market/Business Case group (Caroline, Lina, Valli) presented the businessplan of Million, and the plan of distribution. For building the Business Plan and organize the distribution M/BC group has spent a couple of weeks inside a small room with a lots of colourful post-its, pens and coffe. And a big whiteboard.

After the presentation, the final analyse of the case now is up and going. To help us to streamline our thoughts, a survey has beed made and sent to our focus group.

Do you have som experience of Tanzania and want to help us evaluate our BP? Please send an e-mail to Caroline Eriksson at caeriks@kth.se!

Next: Analyse of risks and moviemaking. - Back to work!

Live from Steering Committee Meeting 4

2011-10-31T14:02:00.004+01:00

We are now at SCM 4 getting some great feedback from Torbjörn and Dag from Alelion Batteries. Torbjörn is the CEO and Dag is the CTO so they have a lot of knowledge and we have a lot to learn. Our supervisors Anders and Jens (KTH) are also here to help us get further.

The plan is to have a discussion to get some feedback on what we have accopmlished this far and what we need to focus on further on. There is one month to go and it already feels like we are getting close to the finish line!

2011-10-28T16:40:00.005+02:00

Friday, friday, gotta get down on friday..

An ordinary friday evening: The construction group is working shift in the cole mine.

Manual workshop

2011-10-24T15:12:00.007+02:00

Today Karolina, Amy and Anna had planned a workshop for the manual. The day began with home made cookies (yummie!) and coffee (typical swedish "Fika"). We were divided into small groups were we brainstormed around symbols (are African symbols different from Swedish? How do Tanzanians read papers? From top and down or the other way?), tried to figure out the disposition of the manual and solved other sorts of development problems. I think the workshop ended up with some great results!! Bellow you can see some pictures from the workshop:

Exams

2011-10-18T09:45:00.003+02:00

This week is exam-week at KTH so there is not much happening in the project. The group is instead focused on interesting courses such as Advanced Prototyping, Service Design and Negotiations.

Next week will start off with a workshop on how the manual for M

illion should look. We are looking for an IKEA -style manual without any text so that it can be understood everywhere and by everyone. The real challenge, as we se it, is to make sure the symbols we use in Sweden are the same used in Tanzania so we have been looking in to that and will keep doing so for some time to come.

We don't want this to happen!

Greetings from the Construction Group

2011-10-13T11:21:00.017+02:00

Savionius, Lenz, Halfpipes...

The construction of airfoils to the wind turbine is started and the electric components to the generator is being assembled.

Below is some pictures from the construction of airfoils.

Simon and Magnus is drawing the base of the Lenz wings from templates, cutting the shapes and drilling the holes.

The construction group would like to thank Thomas Östberg in the workshop for being helpful and giving tips and tricks.

Presentation at Solid Engineering customer forum

2011-10-13T10:52:00.005+02:00

Yesterday we got the opportunity to present at the Museum of Photography here in Stockholm together with our sister project, Bright Future.

The reason for the presentation was that we have received a sponsorship by SolidEngineer! They are working with Solid Works, a 3D CAD/CAM with great functions for this project as there are many functions for sustainability management and other things we really need to consider in our work.

Solid Engineer had rolled out the red carpet for us!

The presentation was a success and we met some really interesting people afterwards who gave us some good feedback. We tried and a 3D-mouse from 3D Connexion that would really make it a lot easier to use solid Works and after having talked to their representative for a while they decided to give one to the project, awesome!

Katarina with the Space Navigator

To sum up, it was a really interesting night. It was a lot of fun to present the project in public and we got really motivated to talk more about million and LionLight so if any of you readers out there know about someone, somewhere who might be interested in hearing about our project, please do not hesitate to contact us in the comments bellow! Also, a big thank you to Solid Engineer for inviting us!

It's raining outside but here the sun is always shining!

2011-10-06T13:15:00.005+02:00

The autumn has arrived and it's raining outside our windows. Right now people are having lunch, some of us are sitting in the kitchen and some here in the HK room.

Today we had a silent minute during our meeting, due to the death of Steve Jobs. He was an amazing person who changed a lot in the world. I think everyone can agree that he made the world a little better place.

The construction group have developed a few wing profiles in CAD of our concept Million this week and this afternoon they will continue designing a few more profiles. They have also started purchasing some materials. Business case will continue do develop the business model and document group the report. Right now most people are sitting by their computers and writing about or designing Million.

Also we have set the date for an after work! 24th of October the streets of Stockholm will not be safe. Watch out!

Meeting with Alelion canceled

2011-10-03T11:18:00.003+02:00

Today we were suppose to have a meeting with Alelion but due to a broken SJ train Alelion could not attend the meeting (they are stationed in Gothenburg). So it was canceled.. :(

So instead we continue working as usual! The requirement specification is almost done and the QFD is still in progress. The construction team continues to work with wing profiles and from time to time they enter the HK-office and demonstrate weird things that we are suppose to use for testing. Looks very interesting and everyone is excited to hear what is is :)

To be continued..

Everyone except Business Case

2011-09-30T08:22:00.007+02:00

We took some pictures of team LionLight but couldn't find the business case team at the moment. That will be a cliffhanger until the next post..

This is the group that has responsibility over Technical Specifications and the manual; BjörnE, Anna and Karolina.

This is the document group, Amy and Christian. Heidi is missing (that will also be a cliffhanger until next time)

These guys work with construction! Jonas, Goran, Simon, KF and Magnus.

An awesome team, don't you think?!!

Coming up!

2011-09-29T16:29:00.002+02:00

A few weeks ago we had a meeting with SolidEngineer and it turns out they want to sponsor us with a few licenses in Solid Works. Yay! On October 12 we are going to Fotografiska and present our projects during the customer community that Solid Engineer is having. We are really looking forward doing that!

Rhetoric

2011-09-29T13:01:00.003+02:00

Today we had an amazing lecture about rhetoric, given by Johan Falkman (www.falkman.se). Personally this was my first lecture in rhetoric and I'm already looking forward our final presentation. It's going to be awsome!!

Hard working engineers taking a nap before noon..

2011-09-26T11:38:00.004+02:00

At 11:30 am, our top two engineers were already worn out and had to take a nap together..

A source of inspiration!

2011-09-26T10:10:00.003+02:00

An amazing story about William Kamkwamba, a young Malawian inventor who built an electricity-producing windmill from spare parts and scrap!

We have liftoff!

2011-09-20T21:36:00.002+02:00

Nytt bord i HK rummet :-)

2011-09-19T15:31:00.004+02:00

Nu har vi fixat ett höj- och sänkbart bord i vårt HK rum. Detta tack vare vår gruppmedlem Björn-Emil och hans starka drivkraft till att förbättra den kreativa miljön! :-)
