The blood donation camp will be held for four days from 7th September 2011  to 10 th  September 2011  from 10 AM to 3 PM at SRM University, Kattankulathur. Around 1500 voluteers are expected to donate blood.

The success of the camp depends on the motivation of students by our Lion members.
Please participate in the camp & make the project a great success.
TOGETHER WE WILL EXCEL IN SERVICE.

The said camp conducted by our Club ably supported by 12 Years Old Lions Club of Thanjavur Temple Town, Lioness Club of Thanjavur Temple City, Thanjavur District Blindness Prevention Association & Lions Eye Hospital, Vandampalai, Thiruvarur deputing Dr Sinduja, Eye specialist, Thanjavur for Eye Checkups and Cataract detection & Consulting.  We thanked for her patience to attend 212 persons.

The undersigned, Ln K R Purushotham alongwith Ln Dr Veerachozhan attended the Projects.  From the other Clubs, PST’s, Past Presidents and Senior Members of District A2 including District Advisor attended the Camp.  The Retired District Program Manager,Thanjavur District -  Mr. Sivashanmugam also participated in the Camp who helped us in getting the permission from Thanjavur Collectorate.

The Camp Statistics:

Cataract surgery Card issued and signed : 23(3 would undergo Surgery Post Ramzan but signed the card for surgery)
No. of Spectacles provided – 19 – Sponsored by the Thanjavur Temple City Lions.

We had the opportunity to get into the Thanjavur Brahadeeshwar Temple.  We could see two young men with full enthusiasm distributing Drinking Water with fifty Bubble Top Water Cans for the Visitors to the Temple on the Sunny Day.  Real Service…

2. One more Ayurvedic Medical Camp on the 27th August 2011,  Saturday at our Hospital, K K Nagar on account of our Club’s Charter Nite.

3. One More Eye Camp on 28th August 2011, Sunday at Govt. School, Keezhavasal, Thanjavur alon gwith Lions Club of Thanjavur Temple City (Not with L/c Thanjai Chozha as mentioned earlier)

4. Our President and Secretary are Meeting a Team of Students for finalising conduction of a 5 – 7 Days Mega Blood Donation Program with a  focus on collecting > 1000 Units.

This camp done at Community Hall-Boys Club, Venkatapuram, Saidapet, Chennai 600 015.  The Camp was inaugurated by Mr. Ramanujam Kannan, the Chairman & Managing Director of M/s. Emerge Learning Services Limited, in the presence of Mr. Paramasivam, the Local Ward Secretary. The President, Ln S Sekar, Secy. Ln Paramasivam, Ln K Rajesh Kumar, Ln K R Purushotham, Ln John, Ln Sudhakar and Ln R Chandrasekar registered the presence. Special thanks to Mr. M Wesley, the Resident of the said area and an employee of Emerge Learning who was instrumental in the conduction of the Camp.
The Previous day the Auto Announcements were done from 10 AM to 8Pm in and around Saidapet.

Out of which 8 signed for surgery – 3 are to undergo at later part of this week.
These 8 have undergone surgery and will be dropped back at their place tomorrow morning. Total No. specs to be given after Ten Days :   30 (Out of which 20 are Sponsored by Emerge Learning Services Limited)

2. Ayurvedic Medical Camp:

After finishing the Eye Camp, we went to Chrompet for the Ayurvedic Camp.
The Camp held at Chrompet Cultural Academy, Kamakshi Kalyana Mandapam, Near St. Marks Hr. Sec. School, Chrompet.  Project done alongwith Chrompet Flat Owners Welfare Association.

Dr. N Elangovan, our Hospital Doctor was there at the Camp well in time.  The Camp started at 2:30 afternoon and went upto 6:30 in the evening.

Total No. of Patients who had the Ayurvedic Consultancy is 57.
Majority of them are aged above 35 and are Ladies.
The Approximate Costs of the Medicines distributed is around Rs.2000/-
Dr. N Elangovan is Confident of followup with these patients as many of them have access at K K Nagar with their dear ones.   Mr. Ramamurthy,  a Member of the Association helped our Doctor to manage the Pharmcy Table.

3. Blood Donation Camp:

With the help of our Lions Blood Bank, Egmore we could procure 18 Units of Blood in the Camp.   Out of 18,  Two are lady donors with one aged 58. Our Ln K R Purushotham registered his maiden Blood Donation. Few Volunteers were rejected on several reasons.
Thanks to the Crew of our Lions Blood Bank for their patience.

Ln S Sekar, Ln K R Purushotham, Ln K Rajesh Kumar, Ln Latha Raman and Ln S Raman registered their presence. Certificates were given to the Donors by Ln S Sekar and Ln S Raman.

4. Independence Day Celebrations at our Adopted Corporation School, Rangarajapuram, Chennai 24 (15.08.2011)

Our President Ln S Sekar and Ln A Paramasivam have attended the Celebrations at our adopted School.  On our Club’s behalf, they have given  Cash Prizes of Rs.1000/-, Rs.750/- and Rs.500 to the Three outstanding Students of Tenth Standard (2011) as First, Second and Third Prizes respectively.  The School HM thanked the club for continuous support.

The School is in requirement of a Mic Set.  Earlier five year back, During Ln S Subramaniam’s period we have given a MicSet which is not in a usable condition as of now.

Few private trust and philanthropists along with the locals under the technical expertise from REACH FOUNDATION, are renovating the totally collapsed Vishnu temple, believed to be built during the Pallava period.

The renovation team unearthed three  rare Vishnu bronzes, each belonging to three different era, proving to make one believe that the temple had long royal patronage – Pallava, Chola and Nayaka. The 1200 year old Pallava Bronze almost 2.5 feet tall is a rare Vishnu with Prayoha Chakra in one hand and the abhaya hasta on to his right. The left pair of hands has the Shanka and the Uru hasta, the hand resting on his lap. The ornamental crown and the lean face, with locks of curly hair falling around his back, are sure signs of artistic Pallava Bronze. The seated Vishnu, in ardha padmasana is having clear features of Chola icon where as the smaller Standing Vishnu which is made as an imitation to the original Pallava Sculpture, belongs to the Nayaka Period.

 The villagers and the renovation committee decided to deposit the icons to the local RDO and Tahsildar, under safe custody and retrieve them to be kept and worshipped in the to-be renovated temple, during the time of consecration. The leader of the local temple trust, Mr. Ravikumar, a manufacturing professional, said the new finding has reinforced the belief of the people and they are happy that they would be having Urchava Moorthis of different Era on the same platform for worship, which would surely be a rare sight.

REACH members J. Chandrasekaran, P.G. Prabhakaran, Architect Madhu Sudan and his deputy, Harshad gleamed with joy when the idols revealed themselves out while digging to reinforce the foundation of the sanctum sanctorum. Finding bronze idols of three eras in the same site, made their restoration effort more purposeful, they claimed.
