I've been using this facial cleanser for a couple of weeks now and I think I am ready to share my thoughts on this product. It's starts off kind of like thick milk (I know it sounds strange, but that's how it looks like to me) So I spread emulsion all over my face and then add warm water. This cleanser doesn't really foams too much, which is different for me, since I'm used to foaming cleansers, but it does works wonders! It dissolves makeup very quickly and my skin is super clean every time I use it, almost squeaky clean. My skin does feel little tight afterwords but not over dried. Now for downside... Scent... I don't mind it at all, it's very hmmm grassy and essential oil like and I can see how it will turn off lots of people. I personally would have preferred to smell more of a clean (soapy) scent, but hey, I don't mind having "aromatherapy" moment while washing my face :-)

MAC Beauty Powder - Oh So Fair

How are you dolls? Enjoying this wonderful? It's been around 74F last couple of days and breezy. I love this time of the year! weather

So this is a quick review for MAC Beauty Powder "Oh So Fair" from Venomous Villains collection. I tested it for a couple of days in different light and even wore it to the gym to see how long the color will stay on my skin while I get hot and sweaty lol. So here it goes. "Oh So Fair" is one of the most gorgeous shades of beauty powders that MAC ever came up with. It's so soft and gentle and texture is great. I would say it's more of a very soft pink with a hue of peach to it. I wore it as a soft blush (I am NC 25-30) and it showed up beautifully. Some beauty powders are almost invisible on my skin (Dam Edna, Hello Kitty collections) but this one seems to have more pigment. So if you girls are looking for soft daywear blush and you are more fair or medium skin tone - give this one a test. It's going to be on the counters Sept. 30th and I think that it will sell out in most locations very quick.

With that being said, I think VV collection is starting grow on me more and more. I am still not really into the packaging and honestly mineralized shadows are nearly identical to my shadows from last year's collection "Style Black", but overall I see some interesting colors and can't wait to try "Magic" powder that is mostly water. Well I take it back, I did try it a few years ago... Raising your brow? Truth to be told that powder is same (or nearly the same) product that was sold under MAC's sister brand Prescriptives. But anyhow, I liked it back then, I am sure to love it now.

I am a big fan of MAC Mineralized line and these shadows are up my alley. I love the depth of these colors, love the sparkles and the fact that with just little bit of Fix+ these shadows turn into awesome eyeliners. If you feeling like rocking some deep fun smokey eyes - go for it! "My Dark Magic" is a great hue of purple and blueish tones with some drama and for long staying power please don't forget to use eyeshadow base. I swatched color without base and I can see the difference in application, and in not a good way. For something so chunky and glittery you have to have your primer.

There have been times when I experimented on my poor hair so much. I've been black (naturally and jet black from the bottle), I've been red and color of baby chick as well as did my best copying that washed out bleach blond of Paris Hilton. If I recall correctly, 1 day I colored my hair around 5 times!!! Oh my, needless to say I had a disaster on my head. And it was right around this time when I found VO5 Hot Oil Treatment. I heat it in a cup of hot water and leave it on my hair for about a minute or two. I am not going to copy/paste what this product clams to do for you, I just want to share my personal opinion and let me tell you something - this treatment is great! I can see and feel the difference in my hair right away, they are not as dry on the ends, more manageable and healthy looking. It's been almost 5-6 years since my crazy experiments with hair colors, but even now, every now and then, my hand reaches out to that shelf in the store and pick up VO5 Oil Treatment.

MAC Lipstick - Kittenish

Kittenish is a lipstick from MAC Fabulous Felines collection. It's a cremesheen formula, goes on incredibly easy and has a nice glossy texture to it. I actually like this shade. Yes it's a lot darker than I am used to, but I like the fact that this lipstick almost changes shades indifferent light. I took a few pictures for you guys so you can see how this shade behaves in direct sunlight, flash and cool day light. I feel like it's mix between a wonderful ripe cherry color with a hint of chocolate to it. Very pretty. I can't wait to pair it with dark, muted smokey eyes!

Banana Pancakes

Banana pancakes

makes about 15-18 silver dollar pancakes

9oz. buttermilk (I used buttermilk because I had that on hand. Regular milk should work fine.)

2 extra-ripe bananas
2 eggs
1/2 stick butter, melted
1 tspn vanilla
8 oz. flour
2 heaping Tbspn brown sugar

2 tspn baking powder

2 tspn cinnamon

1 tspn salt

1. Combine buttermilk and banana in a bowl. Mash and whisk thoroughly until most of the banana chunks have incorporated into the milk. Add the eggs, melted butter, and vanilla and combine.

2. Add dry ingredients and mix until smooth. Batter will be thick.

3. Oil lightly a medium hot skillet and cook the pancakes.

Caramelized banana "sauce"

Please note that the amounts in this recipe are approximate.

4-5 extra ripe bananas, cut into slices on the diagonal

2 heaping Tbspn brown sugar

1-2 Tbspn cinnamon

1 tspn ground cloves

1 - 1 1/2 tspn freshly grated nutmeg

juice from half a lemon

butter, for pan

raw cacao nibs (if you can't find cacao nibs, feel free to sub with crushed pecans or walnuts)

1. In a bowl, lightly combine chopped bananas, brown sugar, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, and lemon juice. When bananas are coated by the spice combination, set aside.

2. In a medium saucepan on medium high (to high, depending on your stovetop), melt a generous pat of butter to coat the bottom of the pan. Don't go easy on the butter!

3. Add the bananas to the pan and allow to fry for about 5-8 minutes, until the liquid has reduced into a thin caramel consistency.

4. Remove bananas from pan, arrange over pancakes, pour sauce from pan on top, and garnish with cacao nibs.

Enjoy!

So I have some new makeup from Fabulous Felines and I will get into each product specifically in a few days.
Overall I am not too thrilled with this collection. Don't get me wrong, I do like some colors and textures, but I guess I am just not moved by it. I found the "Red She Said" collection back in 08 a lot more exiting.
The best part for me is the new liners. Love-love-love these! I think I am going to purchase one of each color for sure.

Roasted Lamb with Pistachio and Petals

Roasted Lamb with Pistachio and Petals

1 bunch each. mint, cilantro, parsley – all large stems removed
4 springs of rosemary – leaves plucked off from main stems
1 bulb of garlic
2 tbl fennel pollen
¾ cup olive oil
2 tbl freshly ground black peppercorn
sea salt

1 medium size leg of lamb, boned

The night before season prep;
1. In a food processor add all the herbs along with 5 cloves of garlic and ¼ c of olive oil to form a paste.
2. Roll out the lamb and spread the fennel pollen, peppercorn and 3/4 herb paste.
3. Roll the leg up loosely with twine.
4. Spread remainder of the paste around the outside and cover and refrigerate overnight.
5. 1 hour before roasting remove from refrigerator so that it can come up to temp.
6. Preheat oven to 450 degrees
7. Halve remainder of garlic cloves, with a small knife puncture wholes throughout the roast and stud it the garlic cloves.
8. Salt the roast liberally and shower it remainder of olive oil.
9. Place in oven- after 3o minutes lower oven to 325 and continue roasting till an internal temp of 120 degrees is reached.
10. Remove and allow to rest for 15-20 minutes before slicing.
Serve with pistachio sauce and petals, we used borage.

Pistachio Sauce

2 c. pistachios, chopped course
1 c. chopped herbs
1/3 c. sherry vinegar
1 c. olive oil
sumac and salt to taste

-Chop pistachios, add vinegar, mix well.
-Add oil, adjust seasonings.

Mascara gone bad

OK, I think it's time for my first negative review of a makeup product. I have to say, that I am not that picky when it comes to mascara. All it has to do is give me some nice volume and make my short lashes appear slightly longer. At this point I have about 6-7 mascaras that I am trying and sadly I am very disappointed with Maybelline Volum' Express the Falsies Washable Mascara.

First of all I have a problem with a brush. Sides of it look pretty good but front part is kinda flat and it is totally doing weird things to my lashes, like depositing too much of mascara on certain areas. Second - is the formula itself. Super clumpy! I mean my lashes looked like a big mess! I am a makeup artist (keep in mind) and I can truly say this is not a "false lashes" effect.

Despite my disappointment, I will try to use it a few more times, maybe our relationship will turn in the right direction but I doubt it. Too bad, because actually I used to love some of their mascaras. What about you? Do you have any mascaras that just not working for you?
