Sosa has asked me to do a vogue-reminiscent '1 girl, 5 days, 5 looks' for her journalism. I have no idea whether she actually still needs it, it was kind of a passing statement. But I adore dressing up. And the gloriously hot weather allows me to wear whatever. It has been ages since my thighs have seen the sun.

Anyway, my 2-week-ish vacation is over tomorrow. I fly back at midnight boo. I actually kind of miss school a tad teensy weensy bit. I always miss where I never am. I think I will have to fly from country to country ever other weekend just to console myself.

I have had the loveliest time back here, although I have not been spending as much time as i would have liked (a) with my chickadees; (b)absorbing sunlight; (c) vegging out of the sofa eating doritos and watching past year VS fashion shows (all emotional eating, mind you)

I have been doing work attachment at my neighbour's clinic. And while i had the best time there (doctors are a hell of a lot more interesting than they seem) I missed other things I should have done. Anyhoo today is dedicated buying tigerbalm/stationary/koreancitrusteas/eclipsemints/singaporeancrap for everyone who didn't happen to be on this minute little equatorial island this half-term.

And packing, of course (ew)

I have had the best week never ever.

On Monday I had shopping with Glenda (or non-shopping, actually) and on Tuesday she came over for a semi-impromptu sleepover. We had soba, watched 'it's kind of a funny story' and 'FRIENDS'. Ate cake and skyped Rachel and watched some guy called Remi on YouTube do things unknown to mankind. And slept, of course. Because only at a sleepover attended by both myself and chua hua does sleeping actually get accomplished.

The next morning we had an oatmeal brekkie and lounged about doing zilch until lunch then star-wars-wii-ed with lightsabers and 'the force'. Watched old episodes of who's line is it anyway and more friends and went to starbucks and I had a lovely time. As much as I hate to admit it I will miss that ditzy annoying socially-questionable girl.

As you can see, there is a sad lack of berries and stone fruit in our nosh but whatevs. I'd rather cough up a lung all the berries and cherries have turned into a rotten pulp in Giant.

Then I had a steamboat dinner at my Nan's with those little cage-thingies to fish for fish (see what I did there)? Then I lazed in front of her TV and watched WWW Wrestling (or is it WWWrestling) (my Gramps was there too) and we had pie and all's good

The next day I had my hair intensively treated with keratin which is supposed to make it super-soft WITHOUT straightening it. So far it's cracker. Only it's a little straight because it's like that the first three days.

Then I had Thosai and Mr. Bean pancakes and those little sippy tau huey things that I didn't know existed in Mr Bean. And yes, they are delish.

(I know I have been doing an insane amount of talking about what I have eaten because I need to record this down for future reference because I will miss eating my Thosai and Pancakes and Soba and what-have-you)

Yesterday I went out with my KinderPig (Kyra Bueno Gill) and I took her to get (more) soya bean and to Far East. I got the cutest little notebook with 'The Little Prince' on and now I have a matching set with those Little Prince stickers Jodie, Jamie and Nicole got me.

Kyra expressed her trait for being a complete food-bore and got another suckie WHY WHY WHY.

Kyra bought a dress she looked lovely in and I had picked out for her. What is she going to do without me, I can't even. She got me a cute little friendship bracelet that is now suffocating my ankle and she has a matching one. She also got some fake spectacles, so. Yeah.

Went to the Japanese Food Mart on the way to Wheelock and Kyra practiced her Emma-Stone-esque 'Yum' face a bit.

Pretty good, huh?

Then we shimmied to 313 to eat Prata and WE DID NOT WASH OUR HANDS so prata had to be consumed with utensils. Sounds easy but is not, in fact, an easy task. But I managed. BECAUSE THE PRATA WAS FLIPPING GOOD even though the prata man did not flip the Prata like they should but stretched it out flipping-less. Prata Men flipping dough is all part of the charm, I must say.

Went home and packed and had celebratory bubbly (even though my throat was burning) and tried to sleep and could not sleep so woke up and read and then I slept on page 54. I know because it is the page that got crumpled by my falling sleeping head.

The Day of Aimless Wandering (read: eating)

I had the loveliest day out yesterday. Why did I go out yesterday? For popiah and pretty much nothing else. Which is probably why Glenda and I ended up walking around Singapore with absolutely zilch to do.

Alright, I lie. I kind of had a small purpose. And that was to only eat local food. Yesterday was possibly the only day in my entire life I have eaten only famous Asian dishes. Wow whee, me.

Also, to watch rock of ages, but since that was sold out, we watched 'the watch' (see, I kinda did a word-inception there). My first official legal NC16 movie. Despite turning 16 almost a year ago. Word to the wise: DO NOT WATCH THE WATCH. It has freaky aliens that only die if you shoot their crotch and boobs and wankers.

I think I will stick to PG13 or G for now, thank you very much.

Proceeded to Isetan to eat free samples. Glenda's brainchild not mine. Anyhoo they had the best-est fresh miso ever and my Mother forbade me to buy it because it was a product of Japan and possibly contained radiation.

I know, what gives.

Then because you must eat Fei Fei before you leave Singapore, and also to rub it a teensy little bit it Rachel's face (haha, sorry Rach :P ), observe:

Yesterday my lovely lovely friends surprised me at my house for a farewell party, aw. I was upstairs watching my sixth episode of FRIENDS in a row and they were sneaking in downstairs. My dad called me down and you know, I was expecting him to show me another round of completely pointless youtube videos. BUT NO MY FRIENDS WERE THERE AND OH MY I WAS NOT DRESSED APPROPRIATELY (i.e. PJs i had rolled out of bed with)

But, anyhoo it was so wonderful to see all the people I love in one place. My semi-LB and Zahwah and Shaikha and Ain whom I haven't seen since the dawn of the ice age, i don't know. My other TKGS duckies Lavelle, Glenda, Jamie, Jodie, Cassie, Nicole, Jodie. My Haig Girls' weirdos Priya and Jeethi and even Ryan, Nat and ZhiMin from TJC.

I love you all <3

I hope all my friends made friends with one another so you can bond with your shared feelings of loneliness towards me, hah.

No, not entirely. Don't miss me. Because when I come back I annoy the bejeezus out of you.

Lovely Rooms: part 1

I have been looking out for beautiful rooms recently. I used to do this a lot while I was redecorating my room, but now I have to remove everything i worked so hard on because I am moving and Kyra is taking up my room.

I will miss my balcony, my straw hat on my wall. My typewriter and my camera shelves and my stationery pot and my jar of iced gems.

My iced gem jar is currently empty though because for some reason i cannot find them in any supermarket, and it breaks my heart.

So, anyway:

I have created a pinboard on pinterest (my love) full of lovely rooms to make me feel a bit better because it reminds me that this means I get to decorate my new room.

Yeah, it may be small and yeah i may have a wash-hand basin in the same room, but it's a dorm room, you can't really be asking for much.

So here are a few that I love out of everything I have pinned

I think I was born with an immense love for interior design and it's just something I have to get over because design is not a professional degree. And the only reason I am even moving into a dorm is to get a professional degree.

So I am eternally fated to be a boring doctor or lawyer or banker and someone i just want to shoot with a staple gun because they sound too dreadful to even have a real gun.

Nothing against real doctors and lawyers and bankers, but I just don't see myself ever becoming anything of that sort. I hate blood and arguments and dealing with large sums of money.

Maybe I'll be a cat.

And this is only a third of my favorites, so the rest is right around the corner.

Does anyone have a lovely pinboard to share so that I can ~~waste~~ spend even more quality time hooked on pinterest? It doesn't have to be design-themed. Anything interesting~

I made a recipe book for Kyra as my going away present. Yeah, I am aware that it works the other way around. Yes, I know that for my going away present, my mother paid for the pullover, my grandfather printed out the t-shirt transfers, my grandmother ironed it on while Kyra (and I) 'supervised'.

But whatever. I enjoy giving things when practically zero cost is involved.

Total expenditure for Kyra's present: $2 notebook (yeah, Diaso)

It took me ages to draw out every single recipe that i had invented for kyra. That's right. I INVENTED RECIPES FOR HER. And last night, she tried the first one. The most idiot-proof one, let's be honest.

It's called smore'zels. Maybe tonight I will scan in some of the recipes that I drew out. But I had to stop her from toasting them before they exploded. Seriously, though. The marshmallows were inflating like balloons and the chocolate had turned liquid when i waltzed into the kitchen. Kyra was peering at them through the teensy glass-toaster-oven door and saying 'their not quite done, yet.'

Yes, If 'done' means dissolving into carcinogenic unidentifiable substances, but they were pretty close to it.

She offered me one to 'taste-test' one that had fallen apart in the oven *note smore'zel that has been separated from it's chocolate kiss*

pretty good, but then again, it was my recipe and my intervention that allowed it to remain edible for human digestive systems.

Sometimes I really worry for that girl.

Anyhoo, i spent 100 hours on lookbook for the fun of it yesterday afternoon. I am now fully prepared for any wardrobe emergency that may arise in the next three months. Because, let's be honest. three months and only three sets of casual attire to go jet-setting in town with (I kid, of course)? A wardrobe emergency is just hiding around the corner ready to rear it's heartbreaking and terrible face. And self will be terribly heartbroken (see what I did there?) if self is unable to deal with it accordingly.

Nathaniel also hired me as his professional camera shopper yesterday morning. I spent breakfast in front of this mac scrolling through page after page on Lomotion and Clubsnap to look for hidden beauties amongst the tonnes of second-hand film cameras being sold.

Needless to say, i found a few. Hah, there will always be treasures when the pile you are digging through involves film cameras. Going to meet the seller at noon and pretend we are old enough to know our stuff. People always stare at me when I do these film-camera-involving-activities because they expect me to be at home with my Xbox (only have a Wii) and saying "screw anything remotely analogue now let me drown myself in our digital era!!"

Well, excuse me, I recently bought a analogue alarm clock to train myself to read non-digital clocks. if that isn't embracing our analogue past, I don't know what it.

sarcasm, of course. But really. I write letters. I WRITE LETTERS ON MY TYPEWRITER. I spend my money on postage stamps, postcards, typewriter tape and film canister rolls and film developing.

And clothes.

Okay well I better go now mommy is teaching me how to make macarons in case she dies when she is hit by a blimp (it kills 1 American every year) and I can carry on the family tradition.

Pfft, good luck.

And I have church at 3 and I have to go collect my film and I have to have lunch with my friends.

Homemade Vintage Notebook

I have a stationery obsession.
It's quite dangerous.

The other day I was at Muji and I bought a ton of notebooks. Hey, it's an investment in my education. You can never have enough notebooks. Not wasteful in the slightest.

I got this notebook with a table printed on each page and I decided to use it for recording how much money I spend each month. And, hey wow, I realized I spent a large proportion on, surprise, stationery.

Whatevs.

The notebook I got had horrid chinese text all over the front. Okay, not all over, but studying (and failing) eleven years of chinese has given me a very high-alert phobia of anything moderately chinese-looking.

Because now to think of it it could have been japanese.

So I decided... PIMP-MY-NOTEBOOK episode 1:

You will need:
-Heavu Duty Tape (Brown or Black matches best)
-A Notebook
-2 Printouts, back and front, of these lovely notebook designs by 'just something I made'
-Double Sided Tape
-A Scissors

1. First you will need to crop each image as close to the edge as possible. I used the GIMP to do it, but anything should work. Photoshop, PicMonkey. I would say Picnik but it's gone now and my heart aches.

2. Use a ruler to measure your book in inches. Then resize each of your cropped images to the respective measurement. It may stretch your image a bit, depending on the shape of your notebook. But generally, it still looks fine after stretching.

3. Print it out. Remember two things. Firstly, to print the image under 'scale 100%' or to print the true size of the image. DO NOT stretch it to fill page or things like that. Secondly, print border-less. I didn't and that's why my picture isn't the exact size as my notebook cover.

4. Cut it out, place double sided tape around the back edges of each cut out. Paste the image on the back and front covers. It should fit exactly. If it doesn't, just make sure that the right edge of the front image touched the right edge of the front cover, and vice versa for the back. The gap around the spine will be covered by tape.

5. Cut out a length the same length as the spine of your book, or slightly longer. Align it nicely along the spine and paste it down. Tuck it any overhanging bits if tape into the top and bottom of the notebook

6. Practice your best cursive to write your name in a fountain pen on the front.

I absolutely love it. Maybe now i will manage to remember to record down how much I spend. Nobody likes saving, but now i can look good going it *wink wink.

Homemade Lemon-Lavender Exfoilant

I love home-spa days. They should be a national requirement.

Not only does your skin feel A-plus after being lovingly massaged with a body scrub that smells out-of-this-world, it gets rid of dry skin.

Which is great because I for one tend to have really dry skin.

The fact that there is oil in the body scrub means that your skin feels unbelievably smooth and soft. In fact, this afternoon all i could do was run my hands up and down my shoulders because they felt so. soft.

I kind of winged the proportions. I have absolutely no prior knowledge on how to make homemade body scrubs, but I knew you had to have either a sugar or sea-salt element, oil, and something to make it smell extraordinary.

Here's what is in mine:

1/2 cup white sugar // 1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil // 3 ml lavender essential oil // 1/2 tsp dried lavender petals // 1/2 tsp lemon zest

yum, yum. If I hadn't put in the essential oil, I would have snuck a taste, no doubt.

I usually apply the scrub before i get into the bath because then it doesn't float off and it gets to do its job. so before turning on the shower or running the bath, scrub it into your skin real good. Then run some cool water over and rub off the sugar crystals with a loofah. It's fantastic.

If I am not wrong, all body scrubs generally have a 2 part sugar to 1 part oil ratio. The rest is pretty much up to you. I'll try some other funky flavors and smells after i run out of this one, i managed to work through 3/4 of my jar in one afternoon alone.

Next i want to try a brown sugar with coconut oil, doesn't that sound lovely?

But I am obliged to type it out anyway because I honestly can't use my brain to come up with something else at seven am in the morning.

Anyhoo, tanning was a blast. We came armed with the following

We gave up lying in the sun after a half hour for ice cold confectionary

(The confectionary in question is Macdonalds. But you aren't exactly spoilt for choice in Sentosa, now, are you?)

We tanned,
We tried.
But we got distracted and posed with gangstah douche swag

Glenda, clearly, is a pro.

Glenda thought of ingenious ways to transport our $2 diaso tatami which we have now used a total of '2' times. wowhee we really milk this stuff, huh.

We had soup spoon, again. Why do we always end up getting soup spoon?

Because soup spoon is awesomely fantastic and tastes like drinking rainbows, that's why.

And of course, we found giant pumpkins with which I had to pose for a portrait.

At the end of the day we were lounging on Lavelle's sofa watching outsourced (that show deserves an award) massively tanned (and some burnt) and massively tired even though all we did all day was sit on our arses.

Going to Sentosa finally with my lovelies. Better soak up all the tan I can before venturing under the dreary rainy sun-less skies of Britain. Not that I need to get more tan, because trust me, I know I don't. But I will miss it, so I am doing it.

I also need to remember to eat ONLY local food from here on out. Because I will miss it and I don't want to waste it eating tough chewy icky chunks of mystery meat in a stew that is - hey! - a traditional British food. Which is what I did yesterday, so, no no.
