What Happened?

About one year ago today I posted my last blog. I was inconsistent, I lost inspiration and I quit.

I learned very quickly that trying to become a beauty blogger in an over saturated genre is NOT going to be easy. I fell into the same routine, never being adventurous with my posts. I stuck myself into one corner and was realizing that as much as I love makeup and beauty tips, my blog needs to be about more than that. I have to love what I am doing and I love more than just makeup and beauty tips.

I have decided to revamp this blog to.....

Life with Lanii

The new blog will of course still have beauty tips and makeup but it will also have style, home decor, food and so much more. I will do my best to upload content on a consistent basis.

If you haven't already heard the dynamic beauty blogger duo Desi and Katy have collaborated with the makeup brand Dose of Colors.

The ladies have mentioned that they have been working on the collaboration for the past two years, to ensure that everything that have will be as perfect as possible. They have a total of 8 products launching on Monday August 14th!

Summer Drugstore Must Haves ♡

Summer time for me is the perfect time for the healthy glow makeup look. The weather here in LA has been super humid so my goal is to keep my makeup as light weight as possible. With that said I have been really enjoy drug store makeup a lot more, so todays summer makeup is all from the drug store.

1. NYX Honey Dew Me Up - this is an inexpensive primer that helps you instantly achieve a "natural" glow once foundation is applied.

2. Maybelline Fit Me Foundation - This is a light to medium coverage foundation that has a really great natural finish. This is a "my skin but better" foundation.

3. Loreal Brow Stylist Shape & Fill - this is an inexpensive dupe for the ABH Brow Definer.

4. Maybelline Master Chrome Highlight - The most amazing drug store highlight EVER!

5. Loreal Voluminous Lash Paradise - This is a dupe for the Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara.

6. NYX Matte Bronzer - This is a super buttery & easy to blend out bronzer.

7. Maybelline Vivid Hot Lacquer - I love glossy lips during the summer, and this new gloss is amazing and long lasting.

During the summer months I tend to stay away from matte / liquid lipsticks simply because they tend to be drying and with the heat I don't find them very comfortable. Another thing I tend to stay away from (during the day) is eyeshadow, this is just because during the summer I spend a lot of time in the pool or at the beach. I try to keep it as minimal and natural looking as possible. These items have been my saving grace during these hot couple of months and I am very grateful.

10 Fun Facts About Me♡

Today I thought I would do something a little different. Instead of posting my favorite hair products like I had originally planned, I am going to share 10 fun facts about myself that you guys didn’t know. I figured this would be a fun way to get to know more about each other. So, lets get started!

1. I am obsessed with reading books. So much so, that my bookshelf is full and now I have 3 whole boxes filled with books.

2. I cry whenever I see anyone else cry. I can’t hold it in. It’s like the moment I see someone sad, I immediately get sad and cry too.

3. I am in bed by 9pm on weeknights. I am 22 years old and really can’t stay up later than that unless I am socializing. Otherwise I am knocked out.

4. I have been dancing hula since I was 5 years old. I still to this day dance. Don’t get me wrong I have taken breaks from dancing but I always go back because my heart calls to it.

5. I love music so much. No matter what I am feeling, music seems to speak to my heart. The only music I am not a huge fan of is edm.

6. I am a Disneyland pass holder. I love pretty much anything Disney, it takes me back to my childhood.

7. Every summer I eat watermelon every single day. I don’t know why but I instantly start craving watermelon.

8. Singing is my first passion. As a little girl I would sing everything, but my favorite song to sing was “My heart will go on” by Celine Dion.

9. I have been visiting the island of Maui every year, twice a year since I was 7 years old. That's a lot of traveling lol

10. I am the only one out of my parents and my sister with brown hair, brown eyes and an olive skin tone. My dad had blue eyes, blonde hair, fair skin tone ( but he was a surfer so he always looked tan). My mom has green eyes, jet black hair and a very fair skin tone. My little sister has blue eyes, dirty blonde hair and a very light skin tone. Someone's not telling me something…. Lol JK

While scrolling through my blog the other day I realized I haven’t done a monthly favorites in awhile. I was actually shocked because monthly favorites are some of my favorite posts to put up for you guys. With that said I obviously got started right away on my March Favorites. This actually took me a second to really go through all the stuff I have been using to pull the stuff I am truly obsessed with so I am sorry that this is up a little late. As always we all know I had to add some of my favorite random things as well, with that said let's get started!

Beauty:

Tarte Brighter Days Moisturizer - This moisturizer has a beautiful glow when applied. I love wearing this on its own and under my foundation for a lightweight, all over glow.

Maybelline Dream Cushion - This lightweight buildable coverage foundation is the perfect foundation for the spring and summer months.

Benefit Gimmie Brow - There are a lot of brow gels out there but this one is perfect for that natural brow look, which is something I love to achieve in the spring and summer months.

Movie:

Beauty and the Beast - For those of you that don’t know I love Disney and Beauty and the beast happens to be on of my favorite Disney movies of all time!

TV:

Total Divas - I have always loved wrestling and this show is all about the lives of the female wrestlers of WWE.

Music:

Say You Won’t Let Go by James Arthur - I just think this is such a sweet romantic song.

Evermore by Dan Stevens - OBSESSED with this song from the new Beauty and the Beast.

French Fries - In the month of march I had surgery and wasn’t able to move around very much so I ate a TON of french fries. It was amazingly delicious.

Now I know a lot of people want the glow to dim, but I am not one of them. I am obsessed with highlighting and I don't think that will ever stop. As the weather starts to heat up here in LA, all I can think about is summer and tanning! If you are like me and love being a bronze goddess during the sunny months than you know it's an addiction. I love going outside and soaking in the sun but sometimes there is just no time for that. Silverlake Adventure♡

Every now and again you need to go on an adventure. It doesn't always have to be a super long road trip, it can be a 30 min drive for coffee and an impromptu photoshoot. Which is exactly what I did with a few friends. Today I am going to share with you the cute coffee shop we found and the cutest mural on a staircase.

Alfred Coffee
Silverlake location: 3337 Sunset Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90026

-This cute coffee shop has kombucha on tap, matcha green tea, chia seed pudding and so much more. This place is the go to place for coffee lovers, bloggers and hipsters. Cute floral wallpaper and delicious coffee, I mean what more could a blogger ask for. All of us tried something different and we all loved how delicious and adorable it was. The employees were all very sweet and the customers were all understanding if you just so happen to stand in the worst spot possible for a picture, which of course I did. The best part is that you won't be spending $12 on a cup of coffee, its reasonably priced and SO WORTH IT!

Micheltorena Stairs

- Now this hidden gem is right across the street from Alfred Coffee and is the perfect place for an impromptu photoshoot with your coffee. This beautiful staircase is hidden in an alleyway almost but is super cute and easy to take photos at with your group of friends. We were lucky and there were no people there so we were able to take as many photos as we possible could.

These are the two places me and my friends went to on our Saturday adventure. We had so much fun that I felt the need to share these beauties with you darlings. The only downside is that parking is a pain in the behind, my friends and I carpooled and luckily found the perfect parking spot BUT they only had 30 min parking so we had to go back and check the parking meter. Other than that this is something that I encourage everyone to go do.

Grammy Sunday ♡

Every year like clock work award season arrives as does all the red carpet looks. Today I am going to share my favorites for both men and women. This will include hair, makeup, accessories and their over all look. Lets get started!

Favorites - Women

1. Adele - The color, the beading, the silhouette. She looked so beautiful and elegant in this dress. Her hair and makeup went flawlessly with her outfit.

2. Demi Lovato - She looked like a bronzed, beach goddess this year. Went a little risque with the mesh like material. Her hair had a very beach waves look. Her makeup was beautiful, bronzed glow to the gods is what I am naming it.

3. Lady Gaga - Now we all know Mama Monster likes to dress for the occasion. She dressed the part. She performed with Metallica and showed up looking like such a bad ass. Latex thigh high boots, a very risque top and some leather daisy dukes. Hair was up in a tousled pony tail with peachy pink highlights. Red glitter smokey eye and a bold red lip.

4. Rihanna - She always knocks it out of the park. She showed up in a two piece outfit. The skirt is layered and black while the top is orange and beaded. Her effortless hair and makeup really tied this outfit together.

5. Elle King - Elle looked like a fairy princess right out of a movie. From the flower crown to the dress. She looked so youthful and fresh. I especially loved her persona on the red carpet.

6. Maren Morris - This dress to me is very youthful, edgy and fun. I love the slits on both sides and the lace detailing. Paired with her effortless beach waves and simple makeup. The color of her dress compliments her complexion and the golden tones in her hair.

Favorites - Men

7. Nick Jonas - He showed up in a studded jacket, black pants and what looks like black boots. Nick Jonas looks like a rocker bad ass and I was blown away with how well he looked.

8. Tim McGraw - This southern gentleman showed up looking very handsome and put together. He wore a classic black suit, a white shirt with the top unbuttoned, a red pocket square to match his lovely wife's dress, his black stetson hat and black cowboy boots.

9. Jason Derulo - This guy brought all the swag to this years Grammy's. He wore a classic suit, white shirt, black bow tie, fur coat and loafers. He definitely looked like the cool kid in school with his shades and big smile. This look reminds me of old school Diddy.

10. James Corden - Of course I had to mention the lovely host of this years Grammys. James wore a a silver/champagne jacket with his suit. He was a fabulous host that kept people laughing and entertained the whole time.

There you have it, my favorite looks form this years Grammy's Red Carpet. There were many more that I thought looked great and some not so great but these are the ones that stood out to me. Which red carpet look did you like best ? Let me know in the comments.

Where I've Been♡

Hello My Darlings!

First, I would like to say I wish you all had a fantastic start to 2017.

Today's post is going to be all about where I have been and why I have not posted any new blogs yet this year. I am also going to discuss where I want to take the blog this year. I have always been honest with you guys and that is not going to change. So let's jump right in.

I am happy to say that so far 2017 has started off pretty amazing. I started this year in a relationship, happy as can be and I was so inspired. I must have started at least twenty blog posts and as soon as I got the first couple sentences out, it fell flat and I lost all inspiration. Partly it had to do with the fact that I was in a brand new relationship, at that honeymoon stage and was not as focused. I chose that over my blog and you guys and I am so sorry about that. I am no longer in that relationship. It just was not the right time and that's okay. I gave myself time to heal and focus on myself. I am in a good place, I am happy, I am strong and I will have a great year.

This year I want to focus on a couple of things for the blog. I will be posting about Beauty, Health, Style, and MORE! I am going to try and post at least twice a week.

I want you guys to know that this year is going to be amazing. The ups and the downs will only make us stronger. We just have to stay focused, positive and hard working.

B R O W S ♡

Today I am going to talk to you, all about BROWS!

Filling in your brows became really big not that long ago. When I look back just a couple of years ago, my brows were way too thin and very sparse. Of course at the time no one was really filling them in so don't hold it against me. We have definitely seen the evolution of the brows, the boxy brow, the fade out, the bold brow, the natural brow and much more. I personally go through phases, I mean sometimes you need a bolder brow and sometimes you need a more natural brow. I am going to share with you my absolute favorite brow products and how I maintain my brows..

♡Maintaining The Brows♡

Plucking- I am sure we have all gone way too far when plucking our eyebrows at some point in our life. I personally pluck my eyebrows while using a stencil, so that I don't make that 'over plucking' mistake ever again. This is the cheapest option but it can take a turn for the worst. This can also be more painful than the other two options.

Waxing- There are multiple ways of getting your eyebrows waxed. You can go to a nail salon you trust, there are places that specialize in waxing ( EX: European Wax Center), or you can wax at home. Waxing is using a hot wax to remove hair by the follicle. This I feel is something that can be cheap and very expensive depending on where you go. I personally have gone to my trusted nail salon for years. I have never tried waxing at home just because I am way too chicken.

Threading- This is something I have only tried once and will probably never do it again. I think this is the most painful but I could just be a baby. Threading is a process of removing the hair using a cotton thread to pull the hair from the follicle. I feel like this process takes the longest. I do have friends that enjoy this way more than the other options.

What I Do- I get my brows waxed maybe once or twice a year just to get them shaped. I keep them up by plucking the hair that grows outside of the shape. If I feel like the shape is starting to get wonky I either use a stencil or go get them re-shaped.

♡Brow Products I Love♡

Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Definer - This is the easiest brow tool I have ever used. It takes literally less than 10 mins to do my brows when using this. The shape of the pencil is what makes it simple. I do think this is the best tool for bold brows.

Benefit 3D Brow Tones - This is something I was originally very skeptical about but I am very happy this is around because I am literally obsessed. This is a gel that adds subtle highlights to the brows which adds dimension so you don't look like you painted your brows on.

Brow Powder - Now this is funny because I use eyeshadow and not like a designated brow powder. I use an angled brush with it just so its easier to create the hair like strokes. I feel like this looks the most natural.

United We Stand♡

Today is a day that will forever be engraved in my mind. The country that I believed to be the greatest country in the world has revealed a hateful and violent side – one that we thought only existed as part of the past. I am writing this post not to bash anyone or tell anyone their opinion is wrong, but to spread positivity, love, and light.

What's done is done. This country has decided that Donald Trump is best suited for President, and regardless of who you voted for, you are a part of this country and we need to stick together.

Stand up for those who feel as though they don't have a voice. Take a stand for the LGBT+ Community that has fought so hard for their rights. For our future generations that will have to deal with the repercussions of ignorance. We need to stand together, to be a community, a family.

Don’t resign to hopelessness. Hope is not lost. Take action in a peaceful way that demonstrates that we can practice what we preach and accomplish things without violence while still standing up for what you believe in. We need to help one another in each and every way possible. If the past eight years have shown us anything it’s that rejecting compromise is not the way to take steps in the right direction.

Unity is essential to thriving as a community and as a country. Forego your labels, embrace each other, and end this modern day civil war.

5th Annual NYX Face Awards♡

This past Saturday was The Oscars of beauty, it was the NYX Face Awards! I was lucky to attend this amazing event with a friend of mine. For those of you that weren't able to make it I want to share with you my experience at the event of the season. For those of you that don't know what the NYX Face Awards are it is a beauty vlogger competition, where anyone can enter. They have challenges and at the end there are 6 beauty vloggers that make it to the Face Awards. They give a total of seven awards, one being the NYX Beauty Vlogger of the Year, who wins 50,000 dollars and a year worth of NYX Makeup!

I am going to start off with some Pro's and Con's and then I will let you know my final thoughts on the event. Lets jump in!

PRO'S:

* The Novo is a beautiful venue

* The staff and volunteers were very nice

* There was lots to do before the event started

* The gift bag was very nice

* The performances by Chloe & Halle and by Alyssa Edwards were stunning

* Kandee Johnson and Charisma Star were great hosts

* Beverages were available for purchase

CON'S:

* Registration was almost an hour delayed

* Elevators were VIP Only and we had to walk up 6 flights of stairs to get to our seats

* All the front row seats were VIP so we got middle to nose bleeds

* They kicked us out of the venue right after the show

* We had to take the service stairs to get out of the venue

OVERALL:

It was an amazing event. I am so happy that I got a chance to go and see who won the NYX Face Awards. For those that did not see who won it was the beautiful, talented and spicy Laura Sanchez! All the contestants were amazing and talented. I suggest that anyone that has an interest in makeup go to the NYX Face Awards at least once in your life.

Lip Gloss Obsession♡

For those of you that don't know lip gloss is back in style although they never went out of style for me. For the past couple months matte lips were what everyone was talking about, but most recently its been all about the lip gloss. So much so that even Mr. Christian Louboutin came out with lip glosses this year. Today I am going to share with you the lip glosses that have replaced some of my favorite matte lips for the summer. Most of my favorite lip glosses are nude colors so I apologize if there isn't a huge range of color in my lip gloss collection. So let's get started!

Okay so all my favorite lip glosses are nude shades. I feel like nude glosses are just so universal and look so beautiful on top of any nude lipstick or by itself. The brands I have listed all carry a very wide range of colorful glosses as well. These lip glosses have honestly some of the best formulas I have ever used.
