Being a Tone It up girl member I know the importance of drinking water, but having the flu show up at our house this week made me realize we are not drinking the amount of water we need. This is inspired the January 2015 Water Challenge!
Use any type of water bottle, I'm showing a visual of 4 ThirtyOne Tervis Tumblers equaling 64oz a day or filling up your Tone It Up water bottle 4x a day. Mine is a Christmas present from the Hubs(I took it out real quick to snatch this pic!) Whatever water bottle you choose, be sure and log your water daily! If you are running or working out you will need to up your water intake, this is the base line for your daily needs. I've added a cute free calendar you can print to mark off your daily water intake. Use hashtag #tiuwaterchallenge so I can see your results on instagram!! I'm excited that 2015 will be the healthiest, fittest year for our family!

When my girls were 6months old I started introducing water in a sippy cup they could hold onto and I offered it at every meal. Now it's their number one drink, and even though they love Sprite or Juice as a treat, they always ask for water and they both have a favorite Disney Princess Thermos water bottles and we fill it up all during the day. My girls know if they are sick or have been playing outside they have to take water breaks often. I believe starting them young on water starts an early love of water and healthy lifestyle.

Easy Chicken Soup!!

Ingredients:
3 Chicken Breast
4 Cups of Water
1 Can of Garlic Fire Roasted Diced Tomato's
2 frozen cubes of Garlic(equal to two garlic cloves)
2 frozen cubes of Basil(or basil spice)
Salt and Pepper
1 Frozen bag of Diced Green and Red Peppers, Onions and Celery
1 Frozen bag of green peas and carrots
4 Chicken Bouillon cubes
2 cups of Egg Noodles
Parmesan to sprinkle

Prepare:
Put frozen Chicken in medium/large pot and cover with water a little more than half of the soup pot, salt water and boil until chicken is cooked thoroughly, roughly 15-20min. Just keep an eye on it. Using tongs pull out chicken onto cutting board, add the 4 cups of water let water come to a boil and drop in both frozen bags of veggies, add 4 bouillon cubes, and boil for 4min. or as directed on bag, add diced tomato's and noodles and let them cook for 5 minutes. While veggies are cooking, slice chicken in bite size pieces or shred, whichever you prefer and add back to pot, cook for a few more minutes and you're done!!!

I pour into bowls and sprinkle with Parmesan cheese and serve with crusty bread and sweet tea! Enjoy!!

*Tips*

You can buy the frozen garlic and basil and other herbs in the frozen aisle. They come in small cubes! Perfect for the busy mom like me who don't always have fresh herbs on hand.

I love Birds Eye Recipe Ready frozen veggies, they are perfect for soups and stews!

Minestrone Soup

My husband's Italian roots come out when I'm asking him about our weekly menu. So this week he chose Minestrone soup and Meatball subs.
I found this recipe on Pinterest but had to adjust the recipe to fit our liking. This is my version of

Minestrone soup:

2 cans Chicken Broth
2 cups of water
2 cans Diced Italian Tomatos
1 can Red Kidney beans
1 can chopped green beans
2 small zucchini or frozen bag
1 frozen bag of onions/red peppers/celery mix
2 Cups chopped Carrots(or bag of frozen to make it easy)
1 cup of Medium Pasta shells
Salt/Pepper to taste
1tsp Oregano
1tsp Basil
1tsp Onion Powder
1tsp Garlic Powder
Shredded Parmesan for topping

Mix all ingredients, minus the Parm and bring to boil; then let simmer for 20-25min.
Top with Parmesan cheese and serve with bread.

*Serve with Grilled Cheese or crackers.

Quiche

Quiche Recipe(Broccoli and Ham version)

2 9in. Deep Dish Frozen Pie Shells(let thaw while preparing other ingredients)
8 Eggs
1 Can of Evaporated Milk, or 1 1/2 cup of Half and Half
Salt & Pepper to taste
Onion Powder
Garlic Powder
4 Cups of Grated Cheddar Cheese
1 container of sliced Ham
1 frozen bag of Broccoli(I use the microwavable kind to make it fast)

Preheat oven to 350

I poke holes with a fork all around the sides of Pie Crust and in the bottom of crust to prevent pie crust puffing up with air bubbles, then I bake for about 10-14minutes and let cool on rack.

Microwave Broccoli as directed on bag.

I beat all 8 eggs with salt, pepper, onion and garlic powder and set to side, add evaporated milk and beat a little more until mixed.

After Pie Crust has baked and cooled down, I layer as follows in both Pie Crust, handful of grated cheese, sliced ham(I pull apart in bite size pieces), broccoli, and some egg mixture, then more cheese, ham, broccoli and more mixture to cover the top, then I add grated cheese on the top of both Pie Crust.

Bake at 350 for 40-45minutes until knife comes out clean.

***Alternative mix-ins, add chopped green pepper, onion and tomato for a veggie quiche. A lot of times I just do a Ham and Cheese Quiche or mix it all together for a ton of flavor.

*Add home-made soup or crusty bread or muffins and you have a lovely meal.

Summer Salad

Today I'm sharing a recipe from my Mother-in-law Linda!! It's an amazing, easy-to prepare salad.

Ingredients: 2 Cucumbers

2 Large Tomatoes

2 Ripe Avocados

1 Bar of Sharp White Cheddar Cheese

1/2 Small Onion(optional)

Peel your Cucumber first, then slice and chop into small pieces, chop Tomatoes in small square pieces, chop Avocado in small square slices(as much as possible) and chop Sharp White Cheddar Cheese in small pieces. Toss together with Extra Virgin Olive Oil and Basalmic Vinegar.

*Tip: If you are not eating the entire salad, I suggest making single servings and toss with Oil and Vinegar, otherwise the next day it gets soggy and the avocado turns black. You can buy the fruit sprinkle for the avocado to keep it fresher looking.

Enjoy!! I make this salad at least every two weeks.

Potty Training On-the-Go 31 Style!

It's that time again!!! POTTY TIME!!! My youngest turns two and the current question of those inquisitive of my motherly training, "Is she potty trained yet? I trained mine in three days! I didn't train mine at all, they trained themselves, mine were born trained." I've heard all the great ways to potty train my girls, but in the end, they are two normal girls who take a normal amount of training. So now that we've got that straight, I got some cool tools to help you get through the madness if you don't have a little Einstein of the potty room.

Being a ThirtyOne Director, I'm never at a loss for bags, the fun part is finding a use for ALL of them. So for one of my favorite little Mini Zipper pouches, I came up with the Potty Tools to go!

All you need is a Mini Zipper Pouch, Purell Wipes, germ-X wipe, M&M and/or sucker(for reward for going), Mint Alcohol in small spray bottle to clean down toilet and extra set of undies, you can purchase the mint alcohol at Walmart. I also pack a mini-doggy bag(dollar store) for soiled undies and keep a clean pair of clothes in the car. This is just my grab and go!! The strap is great to hang in bathrooms to!

**Potty Training Girls**

A few tips I have learned my second time around.

1. Go slow! Pressuring your child will delay the process(I speak from experience) HA!

2. Make it FUN-stickers, M&M's, Dance, Silly Song, Hi-fives!

3. Make it EASY-practice makes perfect

4. Purchase Large Jug of White Vinegar(cleaner for carpet and undies, kills the smell)

5. Accidents happen everywhere, your carpet and sanity will survive

6. In the Car- A travel Potty, Jug of Water, Wipes and toilet paper(you will not always

have access to a public bathroom, I have stopped on the side of the road many times)

7. Buy a Fels Naptha Bar at Walmart/Ace Hardware(looks like a bar of soap, but

will get all those stains out from a uhoh accident)

8. REWARD your child with something BIG once they are accident free for a month!

Fall Break!

I can't believe Fall Break came so soon. This was our fun week! Tenley and I were sick for some of it, but we made the most of being home all week.

Day 1: Carve the Pumpkins and Bake the seeds!!!

Madi said she did not want to dig anything out of a Pumpkin, it was kind of gross and Pumpkin's scared her, but she would help choose the face of the Pumpkin! haha

Madison's Pumpkin was on the Left and Tenley's was on the right!! Thank you Daddy for making our Pumpkins so beautiful Madi said!! :)

So the girls remembered their Pumpkins, Paul carved their first intial!

Paul is great in the kitchen, he baked some Pumpkin seeds in butter and salt and they were amazing!!!

Day 2: Play Outside, Make Cookies, Start on Fall Cards for Grandparents

All kids need a fenced in back yard. My girls play outside for most of the day. I have to bribe them to come in every night!

Making cards for the Grandparents out of state was on the agenda today. Tenley was not thrilled we were giving her card away and started screaming and crying when I tried to put it in an envelope.

Theme this year was "Pumpkin Patch!" Using their Thumbprints, they made a lot Pumpkins and I filled them in. Madi helped me pick the type of faces she wanted on hers.

This was the inside of the card. This one was to NanaLuLu, the Hubbies Mom.

Madi said, "mom, it's ok, I'll hold both of them!" She has a little marker on her face. I'm constantly correcting them for drawing on their face and arms.

Madi and I found awesome Mini Cookie Cutters at Hobby lobby. The girls made a huge mess, but had so much fun making them. Here they are holding their platters with their creations.

Tenley's VERY First experience making cookies, she ate more dough than she used her cookie cutters, eating the dough is part of the fun! Although, I don't think the raw egg helped her stomach any!

Day 3: Watch "Charlie Browns, The Great Pumpkin" and other Halloween themed Cartoons, Hubby cooked dinner, so the girls and I had a day on the couch watching movies.

My wonderful husband made Beer Bread and Chicken and Rice Skillet meal one of the days Tenley and I were really sick. He is so good in the kitchen. Thank God for an awesome Mother-in-Law who taught her son about cooking and not being afraid! Love you Linda!

Day 4 & 5: No pictures because I felt horrible!! haha.. We listened to Jingle Bells and watched a Christmas Movies, my kids prefer Christmas over any other Holiday.

Day 6: Play outside ALL day, Paint and make the Grandparents Fall Cards

Our last day of Fall Break we made more Autumn cards for the Grandparents. Madi said she was "personalizing hers!" I guess she has caught on with my ThirtyOne! This was all done on her own with no prompting from me! I was so excited, I had to take a picture immediately.

Home-Made Apple Crisp

You cannot have Beef Stew in the Crock Pot without having a yummy dessert to follow.

This is another first time recipe. I cook all the time, I'm just surprised how much has never grazed our stove. I feel like the movie "Julia & Julia" except easier recipes and I'm not on a time crunch. This one is not original, all the thanks goes to Betty Crocker, unless it's noted, all my bloggin' recipes are copy-written and original Christina creations. I have so much fun just trying new things and adding new flavors.

Apple Crisp

4 Cups of Tart Apples
3/4 Cup Packed Brown Sugar
1/2 Cup All Purpose Flour
1/2 Cup Old Fashioned Oats
1/3 Cup Butter softened
3/4 tsp Ground Cinnamon
3/4 tsp Nutmeg

*Vanilla IceCream if desired

Heat Oven to 375, grease bottom and sides of 8x8 in pan with shortening.

Spread apples in pan, in medium bowl stir remaining ingredients together(except ice cream) until well mixed, sprinkle over apples.

Bake about 30 minutes or until topping is golden brown and apples are tender when pierced with a fork. Serve warm with ice-cream.

Crock Pot Beef Stew

My hubby has been begging for a Beef Stew lately, so I decided to try it out. This was actually my first time making Beef Stew. I do Roast in the Crock pot all the time among other yummy dinners.

1 Top Roast(it was $10.80 at Walmart)
1 Packet of Onion Soup Mix
5 Carrots, sliced length wise
12 Small Golden Potatoes(these were so small, I just cut them in half)
3 Stalks of Celery chopped
2 Bouillon Cubes
1 Onion
1 Clove of Garlic chopped
1 tsp Salt and 1 tsp Pepper
1/4 C. Flour
1 tsp Garlic Powder

Place Roast in Crock Pot on High with Onion Soup Mix. Whisk flour, salt, pepper and garlic powder in small bowl, sprinkle on Roast and cover.

While Roast is heating, cut up all veggies(carrots, potatoes, celery & onion) and I put them each in a bowl and season Garlic powder, then throw into Crock Pot. Add Clove of Garlic chopped!(Garlic is my favorite part)

Cook for 4-6hours on High or 8-10 on Low.

After it is almost cooked, I add the Beef Bouillon to 2 Cups of water and boil, then pour the Beef Stock over the Roast and Veggies, I let it cook another hour. After the meat is super tender, I just shred it a bit in the crock pot, then stir and serve with some delicious crusty bread!

*Tip: you can add the Beef bouillon sooner if you like, I just don't want to boil my meat at first, I find it cooks more tender when all the seasonings are cooking into it and its more flavorful.

Teddy Bites

Teddy Bites

4 Cups of Air Popped Popcorn
2 Cups Teddy Grahams
2 Cups Corn Cereal
1 1/2 cups of dried pineapple wedges
1 Package(6oz) dried fruit bits
1 Tablespoon plus 1 1/2 teaspoons sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
1 cup yogurt-covered raisins

1. Preheat Oven to 350F. Combine popcorn, teddy grahams, cereal, pineapple and fruit bits in large bowl; mix lightly. Transfer to Jelly Roll pan spray mixture generously with cooking spray.

2. Combine sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg in small bowl. Sprinkle 1/2 of the sugar mixture over popcorn mixture; toss lightly to coat. Spray mixture again with additional cooking spray. Add remaining sugar mixture; mix lightly.

3. Bake snack mix 10 minutes, stirring after 5minutes. Cool completely in pan on wire rack. Add raisins mix lightly

Tip: I'm wrapping each serving of snack mix in a small cellophane treat bag with ribbon so the kids can take them home at their Fall Party at school.

Just like all the other bloggers, I have been sucked into Pinterest. I was so skeptical at first, but then once I saw how fun it was to decorate my house, plan my kids birthdays, plan all my friends weddings and showers I was addicted. Here is one of the little projects I tried the other day.

My two girls LOVE makeup, but I don't like them playing in my real makeup, so I needed a solution that looked real, but was completely fake.

Here is my version of "Fake Makeup."

Instructions: Buy the super cheap nail polish. Shake polish very well, then let sit for a minute. Pour very slowly into cleaned and dried old makeup cases. I would recommend, pouring one layer, then letting it sit for 48-72 hours, then pouring another layer. It will shrink, so you will have more room to pour more over the dried layer. I let mine sit for 3 days away from little hands and bugs or anything that might want to jump in and get stuck.

My girls are having a blast with it! My mom even made some for my girls and did an awesome job! She made foundation, blush and lipstick! I will have to post photos of her handy work.

This week at MOPS we made a Valentines Wreath! It was so much fun and so easy!
We used a grapevine wreath from Hobby Lobby and felt squares cut into circles and made them into little rosettes then hot glued them to our wreath and wala' a super cute Valentines wreath for our door. Thank you Debra Lauer for doing the tutorial at MOPS.

I made a few things to use at my cousin Bethany's wedding. I'm so excited about it!

I bought the old window for $5 from a guy that was replacing his. I decided to make it into a chalkboard. I used the Chalkboard spray paint from Walmart. The lip on the window makes a good place to hold chalk.

Here I'm trying to break my new chalkboard in, so I keep writing and erasing.

I picked up these letters at my local antique store for $1 and painted and primed them with white spray paint. They were a bright orange color, but now that I'm looking at my decor I might paint my T a black or faded red. I haven't decided yet.

Lastly, we needed a photo booth sign. So I found some really cool free font and art work and put it in one of my own frames, so technically this just cost me ink from my printer but no out of pocket.

Oatmeal Scotchies

Oatmeal Scotchies!

This recipe comes via Nicole Lynn. She is new to Pinterest, so I told her I would love to post this recipe on my blog. Oatmeal Scotchies will melt in your mouth and they smell amazing, the cinnamon had me running into the kitchen faster than she could pull them out of the oven.

Ingredients:
2 sticks of Butter
3/4 cup Sugar
3/4 Cup packed(super packed) light Brown Sugar
2 Large Eggs
1 1/2 tsp Vanilla Extract
1 1/4 Cup All purpose flour
1 tsp Baking Soda
1 1/2tsp Ground Cinnamon
1/2 tsp Salt
3 Cups of Old Fashioned Quaker Oats
2 Bags Hershey's Butterscotch Chips

Prepare:
Heat oven to 375
Mix all ingredients except Chips and Oatmeal. Add oatmeal, mix. Add Chips, mix.
Roll in 1 1/2 tsp ball and place on cookie sheets covered with non-stick foil.
Bake 8-10.
Cool for 15min. on baking rack so they don't fall apart.

Cupcake Cones!

I made these for my daughter's 3rd birthday! They were so easy and a huge hit at her birthday party.
I put them in loaf bread pan and covered it with foil, then cut small slits to fit the cones down in to hold them steady, I left one space open so you can see. Pour cake mix and bake as directed on box.

Here they are baked.

Diaper Cakes

Last year one of my resolutions was to exercise my crafty side and here is another one of those projects.

Below is my very first diaper cake I made! Excuse the bad photos, it was with my android and the lighting was horrible.

This one is very basic. It was my first time ever making one and trying to figure it out on my own.

I used one pack of size 1 diapers. I didn't have any rubber-bands, so I improvised and used hair bands. I rolled the first 4 diapers, then wrapped a black rubber-band around them. This would be my center part that would hold the other diapers together around it.

I then laid the diapers out in a circle and slowly started wrapping them together around the base(my rolled diapers). I then secured with a larger hairband, which eventually popped, so I had to find another one and then quickly tie with the ribbon and stuff the other diapers around it.

This is how it turns out. I stacked the two diaper circles to complete the cake.

Finished Product! I tied shoes, rubber duckies, a onesie, teething rings and stuffed animal
around it.

My 2nd one was a little more complicated, but unfortunately, I had to make it quickly, it was a last minute gift and I didn't get any before and during pictures, but this is the finished product. This one was way more fun to make, but a little harder to get even! :)

I used a pack of the Huggies blue Jean diapers so the bike would be blue. The front light is a bottle, with onesie's on the front and around the bottle. I used a very stiff diaper pad to make the handle bars and then put blue skull socks to make it feel more like a Harley, haha. Then a burp cloth and bib underneath to make the seat for the bike. It makes giving diapers so much more fun when they can be a center piece.

MOPS Cake Decorating

In November 2011 we had a Cake Decorating class at my local MOPS group. We had a local cake shop owner and connoisseur show us how to decorate a cake. I cannot go a day without sweets....although I'm working on it. Here is the start of my art.
